2 stars. Stayed in a four bedroom ocean view villa over the National Day holiday. Credit where it is due. Mr Khue was attentive and genuinely tried to fix things. Mr Cuong, went out of his way and made an exception on in room dining for us. Those two were the only reason this is not a one star review. Everything else fell short of what the Marriott name should mean. We were told at check in that all four keys had been handed over. We received one. Asking for the other three was met with a look that suggested we were lying. No welcome drink, apparently cleared away before our 6pm arrival. The villa was dusty with old furniture, some of it close to broken. Our room in the tower had still not been cleaned when we walked in at 8pm, three hours after check in. Dining was the low point. At the Great Room the music was so loud we could not talk, and complaining about it changed nothing. Plates were put down at the corner of the table and the server walked off without a word. The laksa arrived cold and tasting reheated, the seafood was not fresh, and I had to spit out a ROTTEN oyster. Instead of an apology, the head chef argued that they had served 20 bowls and we were the only ones complaining. It took three separate approaches before anyone offered a resolution. Breakfast was room temperature with limited choice. Staff routinely did not respond to guests. A question about bicycle rental at the buggy station went simply unanswered. At the VinWonders buggy stop, people who queued behind us were waved on first. This is the largest Marriott resort in Asia Pacific with over 1500 rooms, and it still runs like the Vinpearl it used to be. The hardware is dated and the service culture has not been rebuilt to match the brand on the sign. If you are booking here because it says Marriott, adjust your expectations.

Today we spent the day at the Marriott on a Day Pass. Booking it was a bit of a quest — you have to go directly to the specific hotel’s website and check whether a Day Pass is available. We paid around 600,000 VND per person, but the great thing is that the entire amount can be spent at the restaurant on food and drinks. That’s actually a fantastic concept, and the prices at this Marriott are surprisingly reasonable. The service was generally good, and I have no major complaints about the staff. You can see that the team is doing their best. Unfortunately, the facilities were a big disappointment. The toilets were dirty, poorly maintained and smelled unpleasant. The reception area also had a strong smell of cheap air freshener. The beach toilet was particularly bad. There were only two changing rooms, with no hooks, and one had a broken lock — people kept trying to open the door while I was changing. There was also construction going on around the beach, with repair barriers and tape everywhere. The beach itself wasn’t particularly clean, although the stones in the sea are obviously a natural feature and not really the hotel’s fault. Overall, for one day, I’d say it was okay — especially because we essentially got the entrance for free and could use the entire amount toward food and drinks. For that, it was actually a pretty good deal. But honestly, I cannot understand paying the full price for a room or villa here. Considering the condition of the facilities and the ongoing construction, I personally don’t think the hotel offers good value for that kind of money.
Shared with Vin Pearl Resort and park on it’s in exclusive island! Speedboat and cable car access was great fun and frequent. The service at the hotel was exceptional even being met by our Marriot Customer Service lady (Tamie) at the dock and supported the ENTIRE stay! So helpful and supportive with great advice! Huy also welcoming at every breakfast! Strongly recommend the Beef Pho for brekkie! Yummy! Fabulous trip!
pros 3 BR Villa was really spacious and nice. Beach and resort was in a great location Shuttles to VinWonders are available. Pools were nice. Cons Checked in late in the evening and opt not to have luggage taken to our rooms since they asked us to wait 2 hours. People do not wait in qeues for shuttles and staff did not help us get on. We were the 2nd group to the shuttle area, but still didn't get on until the 4th shuttle came. I had rush to get on while carrying all my luggage like fleeing refugees. Buffet was okay but it was the exactly same food day after day. Good for a day or two but we were sick of it by the 4th day. Lots of Russian quests and I didn't understand it at first but many seem to hate Americans. I was at the Play room and watched a few play billiards. They asked me if I had a problem. I said I'm just watching and like to queue to play. Later, the same guy was playing another game and told other guests not to watch him. Then I related he didn't like people to look at him. While it was our turn at the billiards table, some other Russian guests told staff to kick us off because I let my kids play. I didn't know the room was okay for kids with an exception with the billiards table. But they had young kids play until we were there. It was very unpleasant throughout the stay after realizing this and we kept getting rude stares and lots of cutting lines everywhere. I understand this isn't the staff's fault (except when they can control lines better) but something to think about if you are coming from America.
We had a wonderful time at this hotel. It’s reasonable priced and has the best staff anywhere. We loved the included cable car rides (or boat) to/from the mainland. We also enjoyed the multiple pools and beaches available. But the hotel’s best feature is the giant breakfast buffet. It has everything we can think of and more. Loved the availability of every Vietnamese dishes, drinks and fruits. Every member of the staff is friendly and helpful. We also liked the hotel’s frequent shuttle service to the VinPearl Harbor for more restaurants and activities. We had a 3-bedroom villa and it is immaculate. Can’t wait to visit again…
