I’m not a big museum buff but I had a few hours to kill in weekday mid afternoon after a show the night before so what heck. Not difficult to get there, walked from Times Square in less than 20 minutes. Afterwards 20 minutes to Grand Central. Senior ticket $22 ($8 off standard price), free coat/ baggage check. Great collection of art, paintings and sculptures and some very interesting videos in the lobby and outdoors. Artists too remember let alone spell their names. On the 5th floor is Starry Night, many Picassos showing his development, amazing, Chagall and Rousseau and Picabia (never heard of him before, beautiful). 6th floor devoted to sculptor Constantin Brancusi who worked in many materials, broad range of ideas. In 3 hours I was only able to see most of these 2 floors. Time well spent. Coming down by escalator, the only way to travel vertically imo, I saw that prep for a Phillip Johnson exhibit was in progress on the 4th floor. Looking forward to that on my next visit.

The Museum of Modern Art is a place that fuels creativity, ignites minds, and provides inspiration. With extraordinary exhibitions and the world's finest collection of modern and contemporary art, MoMA is dedicated to the conversation between the past and the present, the established and the experimental. Masterpieces like Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d'Avignon are on view along with Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans and Gold Marilyn Monroe. Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, and many more can be found in the midtown Manhattan museum. The rich collection of The Museum of Modern Art constitutes one of the most comprehensive and panoramic views into modern art. From an initial gift of eight prints and one drawing, MoMA's collection has grown to include over 150,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and drawings, and design objects.

I have no words other than I would go every day if I could! Just wow 😮😮😮😮
My husband and I only had about an hour and a half free time but it was well worth the quick trip. We had a chance to see all of floor 5 and a nod to a part of floor 4. What a wonderful experience!
If you are a fan of modern art, MOMA is a "must do" when visiting NYC. It boasts a collection of iconic and culturally important modern art that is unparalleled anywhere else in the world. And, the breadth and depth of its collection is amazing. In addition, there is a very good chance that MOMA will be hosting at least one fantastic temporary exhibition when you are there. Allow yourself plenty of time to explore. The museum can get really crowded - weekday mornings are usually the best time to visit.
Beautiful museum. Loved it all especially the 5th floor.
Always a strange experience visiting here. I know art is a very unique form of expression. Having a daughter who graduated from Ringling School of Art I understand that. But, there are some pretty interesting exhibits here. I thought the entrance fee of $22 per person was very reasonable. We spent 3 hours here and had a good time. Still scratching my head about some of the exhibits though.
MoMA was a really enjoyable experience and definitely worth visiting while in New York. The collection is impressive, with a great mix of iconic pieces and more modern exhibits that keep things interesting throughout the museum. The admission felt worth the price, especially considering how much there is to see. The museum can get pretty crowded, and some areas felt a little harder to enjoy at a relaxed pace, but overall everything was well organized. I’d recommend giving yourself at least a couple of hours and going earlier in the day if you want a quieter experience. A very good visit and one I’d recommend to anyone interested in art.
Easy to book and the experience was great.
The exhibits were spectacular! The staff was friendly and helpful with directions
I am not into modern art it’s not really For everyone
We couldn't make the day we made a few month ago not know it was going to be 40 degrees. So the family wanted to go the next day, they refused because it took them to long to get back to us. So we didn't get to get to go and they wouldn't amend the booking. It's an art gallery so I think they need to get a grip that on holiday sometimes things happen and you need to change plans.
MOMA is unique. It holds the world’s greatest collection of Modern Western Art. It has: Picasso’s Demoiselles D’Avignon, Matisse’s Red Studio, the finest Jackson Pollock, intense Rothko No 1, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Cezanne’s The Bathers, Warhol’s Marilyn, and Campbell Soup Cans. Plus many, many more. I have visited MOMA at least 50 times, but I still need to see better. Learning on each visit. Please enjoy. Tip: Pick out 10 works to see. Spend at least 3 minutes with each work. Focus on color, line, shape, and background. Then think about meaning. FYI. Saw the Duchamp and Kahlo/Rivera shows this time.
Amazing museum- even if you are not a big art aficionado, you will be impressed by the huge array of master pieces. Very manageable size and lovely space. Plus so helpful during this crazy heatwave - free for kids before they slowly melt outside!
Undoubtedly one of the best museums out there, this is a must visit if not for anything else, then for Van Gogh's Starry Nights, Dali's Persistence of Memory and of course the numerous Picassos and other works of art. A must do in New York City, getting a ticket in advance does help cut through the queue on a busy day. Remember to keep at least three hours in hand for the museum - that is the bare minimum time you need to do justice.
There’s a lot to see, prepare to spend a few hours there. If you like Impressionism, The Van Gogh paintings are close together on an upper floor, but with a little patience one can get a good photo of them, if desired, or just admire them.
MoMA is more than a museum - it’s a place where some of the greatest minds in art come together under one roof. Walking from Van Gogh to Picasso, Monet, Matisse, Cézanne, Warhol, Kahlo, Pollock, and so many others felt like travelling through the history of human imagination and creativity. Every gallery has its own mood, and every painting tells a different story. Whether you love art or are simply curious, MoMA has a way of making you slow down, look closer, and leave inspired. It’s a place you’ll want to return to again and again. We visited as a group of friends and had our tickets booked in advance. We paid $25 for general admission and were there for about 2-3 hours.
Beautiful collections of modern art. Great place to visit to warm up or cool down while visiting the city.
The Museum of Modern Art never disappoints. Galleries are expertly curated and clean. The fifth and fourth floors are by far the most crowded, and it was very hot in the summertime with all the crowds. That didn't take away from the beautiful art for me, as the crowds were expected. The staff was kind and respectful, and I felt safe the entire time in the galleries. It's best for art lovers, but everyone can appreciate the mastery of the Starry Night or the Water Lilies. If you're not into art, just stop by these masterpieces on Floor 5.
LOVE this museum. Been there numerous times and it just never gets old. Love the special exhibits and the way it’s laid out.
Floor 5 is the reason to come. The Starry Night, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, the Water Lilies room, Warhol's soup cans, Matisse's Dance, all within a few rooms of each other. Seeing them at full scale changes how you read them. The Water Lilies in particular needs space and quiet, which you only get if you walk in right when the doors open. Practical things that actually matter. By late morning the popular galleries are packed and you spend more time stepping around people than looking at the art. Signage is the weak point. The floors connect oddly and there's no decent paper map, so load the free audio guide on your phone and accept that you'll do some wandering. Don't skip the film screenings. They're included with admission and run daily, and most visitors walk straight past them. The sculpture garden is a good spot to sit when your feet give out partway through. Give it three hours minimum. We had two and rushed the design floors, which I regret. Worth the money for the collection. Not worth it if you turn up at noon on a weekend expecting calm.
Went there because of many recommenditions. As a non art-interested couple it was not worth it. We sent through the 5 floors in unter 90 Minutes. Some nice pieces but nothing special. Wasn't worth it for us
Really needed more time . Lovely day started with a walk from Penn station . Starting on the 5th floor . I explored each space. Reading & listening to the audios . Sitting down every now and then to view the pictures again from the artist information. Lunch on the 6th was good to be followed by viewing the 4th & 3rd floors . Took a short survey and visited the gift store. Ran out of energy by 4:30 . Could have used more time to rest before viewing more rooms . Day ended by walking back to Penn Station it was a lovely day
Fantastic place even if you know little about art. Holds some of greatest paintings and artwork in the world. Late opening Friday evening even better.
Great visit and deep dive into modern art. If you are new (like us) there is a free "highlights" self tour that will take you to art you recognize.
Very disappointing experience at MoMA today. My family members do not speak English, so I communicated with staff in English for them. I politely asked whether there was a place to check food items or any alternative solution. The staff member only repeated “food is not allowed” over and over again without answering any questions. We never brought food into the museum. We stayed near the entrance trying to organize our belongings before leaving. While I was putting down an umbrella and briefly placed a food bag on the ground, the staff member walked toward us again and repeated “I told you food is not allowed.” I understand museum policies. I expected basic communication and respect from staff. The interaction felt cold, hostile, and unnecessarily aggressive.
What a fantastic experience! An absolute must-visit for art lovers. Lots to see, specifically some of my favourite pieces. The museum is open till 8:30 pm on Fridays. I was buying prints from the museum store and got delayed to ~8:50 pm, by when the cloakroom had closed. Despite this, my bags were retrieved - thanks to the extremely helpful and wonderful staff - which was a great relief as I was flying out the same night. Thank you!
Beautiful museum, we had a lovely morning wandering around & would definately go back again.
I decided to visit the museum on my first day. I reached there at 10:30 on a weekday and the queue was already formed. I had purchased the ticket in advance. There are so many things to see there. My favorite one is Gauguin's piece. There was also Nakagin capsule apartment model display on 1st floor. It was my pleasant surprise. Great museum for sure.
Wonderful to see the originals of so much great art. Facilities and lunch was very good too. Great experience.
Very doable to see most if not all of what is on display here in 2-2.5 hours. Lots of great works on display.
The Viator description made me feel I had a ticket where I could walk in. MET said I had to buy another ticket to get in. They did give me a discount. I am sure if I contacted Viator we could have straighten this out but I was on limited time and easier to pay again and go.
The exhibits were beautiful. Leave time for all the different time periods. The outside areas were a nice bonus.
Enjoyable display of both modern art from the 1950’s to present and my favorites from 1880 to 1940’s.
One day soon I will hit every floor in one visit lol. We came to see the new Frida & Diego exhibit and it was terrific.
MoMA will Always be one of the MUST in nyc! I love seeing modern art... And Salvador Dali !!!
In NYC for a visit from England with our teen daughters to celebrate their birthdays. After a slightly disappointing trip to the Native American exhibit at the MET we walked to MOMA through Central Park. What an amazing collection of modern art! We were blown away! If you are a fan of modern art - this is a must see on any visit.
Probably the greater modern art museum I’ve ever visited .. vast and stunning collections of The Who’s who in modern art (since 1800) ..
Good art museum - some really famous pieces are housed here, which were amazing to see in real life! The admission is a little pricey, so worth spending as much time as you can to see all the art. Very different to the Met so it was cool to see a different side of art in New York. Worth a visit for any art fan!
We were able to walk right up and gain entry easy. It wasn’t real crowded as we got there early on a Sunday morning, but it still was reassuring that we didn’t have to wait in any kind of line.
I went for the Museum opening at 10.30. I was straight in and spent a wonderful 3 hrs there. As I was leaving there was a queue to get in so pre booking your ticket and going early is a good idea.
Beautiful museum with a lot of famous works and great revolving exhibits. Gift shop is spacious. Get there early as it gets crowded quickly, especially around the more famous art.
I had a fantastic experience at MoMA. The collection is truly impressive, and the atmosphere throughout the museum felt peaceful and well organized, making it easy to take your time and enjoy the art. I appreciated how thoughtfully the works were displayed, and I found myself genuinely engaged with most of the pieces. The top floor was definitely the highlight for me, featuring incredible works by Salvador Dalí and Vincent van Gogh, among others. Seeing these masterpieces in person was unforgettable, no modern camera can truly capture the depth, texture, and emotion of these works. It’s something you have to experience firsthand. One small suggestion for improvement would be enhancing the scanner or digital guide experience. While the short descriptions next to each artwork were helpful, it would be even better if the scanner provided full historical context and detailed background information. That addition would make the visit even more enriching. Overall, MoMA is a must visit for art lovers and anyone looking to spend a peaceful, inspiring few hours surrounded by worldclass art.
MOMA would not accept my tickets from trip advisor. Never had a problem before or with any other trips. Don’t buy tickets for MOMA through this. I also reached out and NEVER GOT A RESPONSE TO MY MESSAGE
On the bottom level there is a kids area where you can do crafts, we made sound music. A nice coffee shop and they have a great gift, souvenir shop. You can spend 3 hrs here, looking at famous art works, interesting installations that are Bold and creative. It encourages people to see things differently! Bathrooms were clean and staff were helpful.
We visited on a Saturday afternoon in February. It was very busy on a cold, winters day. We enjoyed the famous paintings. We ate at the cafe. We enjoyed shopping at the wonderful gift shop. It is a great place to meet friends and visit for a couple of hours. I recommend.
We came specifically for the Ruth Ozawa exhibit and stayed for the fantastic collections from the permanent collection of masters on the 5th floor. And, we hit all three gift shops--FUN!
Had the loveliest time in December while on a girls trip. I especially loved the Matisse - I was not expecting so many gorgeous pieces. There's so many cool nooks and crannies of this museum. Love the MoMa and can't wait to see what's on display next time we're in town!
Beautiful art. It’s lovely. So much time to think and reflect. Prepare for 3 hour day since it has so many levels.
Beautiful museum within a modern building and home to many great artworks. Easy to wander around, sit and enjoy coffee and explore the museum shop for a take home souvenir or gift
