Itinerary
You will begin your tour at Battery Park, a public park located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island. Here, you will briefly see the attractions and monuments that the park contains and learn all about its history as one of the oldest parts of Manhattan.
Before making your way to Liberty Island, you will learn about Castle Clinton, a landmark representing not only the city’s growth but the growth of the nation. Built from 1808 to 1811, it was the first U.S immigration station where more than 8 million people arrived in the United States between 1855 to 1890.
You will also pass the Seaglass Carousel, a fish-themed carousel that represents a symbol of recovery in the area, which suffered damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012. You will be able to appreciate the carousel’s design, as design along with construction took nearly a decade.
From here, you will board the ferry at the New York Harbour, part of the port of the New York. Lying at the mouth of the Hudson river, it is one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
You will make your way to Liberty Island, located just off the southern tip of Manhattan Island. Here you will see the infamous Statue of Liberty, the highlight of your trip. You will learn all about her history and how she came to be on the island.
Next you will visit Ellis Island, an island that contains a museum and former immigration inspection centre. It was the nation’s busiest immigration inspection station from 1892 to 1954. *Ellis Island Immigration Museum is unguided* Guiding is not permitted inside the museum, but your guide will share all the information with you before you enter.
During your time on Ellis Island you will see the American Immigrant Wall of Honour, a permanent exhibit of individual or family names. It is the only place in the U.S where an individual can honour his or her family heritage at a National Monument.

Everything was perfect, especially our Tour Guide, Charlie. Energetic and so knowledgeable. He brought the tour to life. Cannot compliment him enough. Highly recommend this tour. Be sure to ask for Charlie!
It was great. Charlie was wonderful and knowledgeable. He went out of his way to help us and was very personable and would do any your with him.
Kevin was super knowledgeable and personable. We had our young son with us and he included him with everything so he stayed engaged. Kevin seemed to have interesting anecdotes and facts about everything we saw and was a great storyteller. A great day!
Charlie was our guide on this tour and he was fantastic! We had my 9 year old daughter with us and he was really good about being sure to include her, ask her questions, get her thinking, and was able to bring the tour to a relatable level for her. Charlie was very knowledgeable, charismatic, and made sure we had the best experience. We wanted to see our family members names on the wall of honor at Ellis Island and he took us right to their spot! He was also gracious enough to offer up some great food spots and a list of activities that he thought would interest my 9 year old!
Charlie was engaging, knowledgeable, personable and theatrical. Excellent tour guide. We all enjoyed having Charlie as our personal tour guide.
Our tour guide Cherie was excellent! She was knowledgeable, professional, and funny. Thanks to her we learned so much, and we had a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend Cherie!
Charlie was extremely knowledgeable and very articulate. We enjoyed the details. Would highly recommend this to anyone.
Lots of good information, but we would have loved to have have gotten to go into pedestal. Thanks Charlie
Charles M led us on an educational, engaging, and energizing tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. He found quiet spots for us to explore and discuss and navigated us through the crowds quickly. We gained new insights into the history of these two iconic pieces of America’s history.
We have 3 kids, ages 10, 7, and 7. Charlie made sure to focus on them and keeping their attention. I think they actually learned some things. Great success!
Excellent tour guided by Cherie. Very knowledgeable, very good storyteller, and very well organized. Both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island have a lot of options for information, but they don’t compare with a knowledgeable guide.
I had a great tour with my guide, Charlie! He taught me all kinds of interesting facts, and also made it fun, like we were just a couple friends hanging out for the day. A+ would recommend!
We had the pleasure of touring the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island with Charlie, and we can’t recommend him highly enough! Even though we’re former (not lifelong) New Yorkers, Charlie managed to reveal hidden gems and fascinating tidbits we’d never heard before. His immense knowledge of the city’s history was on full display, but the real star of the show was his lively, theatrical approach. Drawing upon his acting background, Charlie delivered each story with such flair and enthusiasm that we felt like we were front-row at a private performance. But that’s not all—Charlie had a knack for making all of us feel like true VIPs. He was courteous, patient, and always willing to answer our questions, all while sprinkling in plenty of humor and charisma. He even connected with us on a personal level, comparing his experiences in the Big Apple with our own bicoastal tales from Los Angeles. By the end of the tour, we were laughing over the cultural contrasts between the two cities and enjoying a few inside jokes along the way! This was truly a fun, informative, and unforgettable experience that left us walking away with cherished memories. We are incredibly grateful to Charlie for sharing his time and talent with us!
Charlie was a very engaging and dynamic guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared unique and interesting insights. Worth it!
our guide, charlie, was outstanding. his knowledge and crowd navigation skills were exceptional. well worth the extra cost!
Our tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island with Cherie was nothing short of fantastic! She was very knowledgeable and full of interesting information. She knew exactly where to take the best pictures, sit on the boat for the best views, and the photographs she brought along with her to describe Ellis Island were great. My family enjoyed this tour and would definitely recommend Cherie.
My husband and I really enjoyed our tour with Cherie. She shared informative, interesting information, but didn't overwhelm us with too many facts or stories about Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. She did a great job of balancing the amount of time talking, walking, listening and time to explore on our own. She had good suggestions for the best photo spots and knew to get the better seats on the ferry to get those. She led you to the best spot to get on the ferry without waiting in a long line! Overall, we had a great experience and would happily take another tour with her and Babylon Tours.
Our guide, Cherie, was personable and very knowledgeable. We had a great time hearing the history of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and appreciated all the views she pointed out.
Kathryn was amazing. She knew how to guide us through the crowds, and highlighted so much history. Highly recommend the smaller tour size- allows for flexibility and personalized conversation. It was a great experience and the tour company was great at communicating taking away any worry.
Wonderful tour! Learned so much about this history of Ellis Island and how the Statue of Liberty was made. Cherie was professional, extremely knowledgeable, witty, and kind. Definitely recommend!

We had an amazing experience on the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Guided Tour with Babylon Tours, thanks to our exceptional guide, Charles “Charlie” Meany. His high energy, deep knowledge, and passion for history made the tour incredibly engaging. Despite it being the hottest day of the year, Charlie was attentive, ensuring we stayed hydrated and found shade whenever possible. He also helped us locate our relatives' names on the immigrant wall of honor, adding a personal touch to the tour. Charlie truly knows how to make the experience enjoyable and memorable for everyone.
We had a wonderful time with Katherine on this tour. She provided a wealth of knowledge about Lady Liberty and the workings of Ellis Island. Her experience kept our group in the best spots on the ferries to exit quickly and to get the best pictures. Katherine went above and beyond the typical job by helping us use the subway to our next stop. We felt like true NYC people after our time with Katherine.
Charlie was a perfect guide! We got exactly the experience we wanted. We toured Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Even as experienced NY travellers we learned many new things.
We had an awesome experience with our guide Charlie who introduced us to New York‘s history and cultural icons. Babylon tours can be highly recommended!
Charlie c was a great guide! My 10 year old daughter loved learning all the history. Would highly recommend using this guide again!
Our tour guide, Charlie, was AWESOME. So knowledgeable and personable. He made it a great experience. It was fun and educational! Would highly recommend doing a private tour!
Charlie did an excellent job. Very knowledgeable about everything NY! 10/10 would recommend. Great food recommendations as well!
Excellent visit led by Charles Meany. He is a passionate guide, and nicely told us many interesting stories of the real people arriving at Ellis Island and the construction of the Statue of Liberty. Enjoyable. We will remember Charly.
We had a small private tour of Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island. Katherine was kind and knowledgeable. She stayed with us for extra time because she was so enthusiastic, which was generous. My only suggestion for improvement is for Katherine to make sure that she knows what the group is interested in (in our case, history and policy--very much; art and architecture--less so) in order to make sure the information and pace fits the group's preferences. Overall--good experience!
It was just great! Charles was top-notch! It was so interesting! So much history, so many anecdotes about everything we visited! I can only recommend him!
Very friendly and professional guide.
We had a great time with Kevin. An exciting moment of history for the whole family, with a passionate guide
We enjoyed a wonderful and informative tour with magnificent views of the Lower Manhattan skyline. Our guide Charlie was friendly and very competent. He gave us a lot of background knowledge beyond the usual information.
