Private Guided Tour Metropolitan Museum Of Art - Highlights And Hidden Treasures

Kevin, our guide, was exceptional in his knowledge and his ability to present the information in an interesting and engaging way. I have visited the museum many times over the years, but Kevin introduced us to numerous works I was completely unaware of. We were “ wowed!” I was surprised that we didn’t actually spend time with any framed art hanging on a wall, which was what I was expecting. Instead, we saw very large, overwhelmingly interesting pieces of buildings and architecture as well as some sculptures and some very, very small pieces that I have overlooked time and again. This Highlights Tour was exceptional. Don’t hesitate to book it!

Our guide, Dan, was personable and knowledgable. He asked what we wanted to see and tailored the visit to ensure we saw our wish list and added in a few must sees as well. I appreciated the flexibility of being able to stop at pieces that caught our eye and have Dan add background information as we moved through the galleries. Highly recommend with is tour… we enjoyed seeing our favorite artists and learning about new ones!

Dan is a terrific guide for the Met. He adapted quickly to our preferences. His knowledge was comprehensive. His approach was less about how the works were made and more about their cultural context. We are grateful we booked with him.

The guide never showed up. We wasted an hour trying to get a hold of him through Viator and the Historical Tour Society. They refunded our money but completely ruined what we had planned because of the age diversity of our family group we were really looking forward to an experienced tour guide.

I know so much more now than I did two hours ago thanks to our incredibly knowledgeable private guide, Kevin. We took a “Highlights” tour of The Met and from start to finish we covered so many unique artifacts, period rooms, and special treasures, all the while learning fascinating history of the artists, New York collectors, and sometimes very unusual stories of how the pieces ended up in New York….ask to see the only Michelangelo sculpture in the US. He was also very gracious with his general knowledge of New York. Next time we visit we’ll be requesting one of his other tours in the city. Thank you!

Our tour was led by Kevin of New York Historical Tours. Meet up outside of the museum was easy and communication was excellent. Kevin was very knowledgeable and the 2 hour tour was delightful, touching on highlights of the museum collections and given our family great insights on how to spend more time at the museum after the tour.

What an amazing tour and experience! We have done many museum and walking tours before but typically overseas. We decided to hire NY Historical Tours for a trip to the Met on a whim and are we ever glad we did. We had been to the Met countless times over the years but going with Kevin opened our eyes to new perspectives. We saw new rooms we never knew existed and he made the history come alive. He started the tour by asking after our priorities and interests, and prioritized those areas, while sprinkling in some more general highlights. Our guide Dan met us at the entrance and asked us what we wanted to see and took us around several of the exhibits. The tour ended 5 minutes early because he had another tour to get to, but overall a nice experience for our family and one we were glad we did. We were able to move faster than a larger group would have been able to and therefore saw quite a lot in 2 hours, though that is nowhere near enough time to say we saw more than a fraction of the exhibits.

He kept it fast-paced enough for the young adults and gave us insight into not only what’s in the Met, but also how the Met came to be and how it is ever evolving. Jared did an excellent job guiding us through The Met. He asked about the type of art and historical periods we wanted to see specifically and made sure we hit the highlights throughout our tour. His knowledge of the art along with the museum itself was impressive. He was flexible and entertaining.

My adult daughter and I took this tour. We had both been to the Museum before but never felt comfortable on our own. This tour helped us understand the layout of the museum, its history, and the huge variety of its holdings. Our guide, Kevin, had lots of interesting tidbits to share, and everything he showed us was wonderful to see and enjoy. We have done lots of tours with Viator. This was simply the very best. The museum is truly amazing. Our guide, Kevin, is so deeply knowledgeable about history and really a pleasant person to listen to and learn from. Learned a ton. It is pricey but well worth it. Will certainly reuse Kevin when we revisit NYC.

My family and I surprised my wife with a private tour of the met for her birthday. We used New York Historical Tours and we couldn’t be more pleased with the decision!
