New York Sandwich Tour

Fantastic food tour. Ben did a great job of picking out delicious sandwiches for the 3 of us on the tour. Really enjoyed Ben educating us on the history of the east village. Wonderful way to spend an afternoon. As an added bonus the meeting place has lovely coffee and a clean bathroom.

11/10, no notes. Truly. Our tour guide Ben was awesome, and we had such a great time. From the moment we met, he instantly put us at ease, broke the ice for the group, and made everyone feel comfortable. We left with big smiles on our faces, a renewed admiration of sandwiches, very full stomachs, and an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction (yes, it was that good of a tour!). This was definitely worth the time and money. Plus, you can definitely feel the passion from Ben as he shares his love and knowledge of sandwiches with others, which was very genuine. I’m going to recommend this tour to anyone visiting NYC (or living in NYC), especially for those wanted to experience from a different angle.

We had a fantastic experience on our very own private sandwich tour with Stef. A great couple of hours eating delicious sandwiches and benefiting from all of the knowledge our excellent tour guide had. Stef literally knew everything there is to know about a sandwich, as well as local history thrown in too. We certainly ate in places that we would have otherwise walked past and opened our eyes(and tastebuds) to New Yorks hidden gems. Thanks for a brilliant afternoon.

We don’t usually take food tours, but so glad we did this one. Tim was very knowledgeable, and his love for sandwiches was clear! All the food was delicious (3 half sandwiches was more than enough for each of us) and we loved their focus on supporting small businesses. Highly recommend.

Ben’s New York sandwich tour was incredibly helpful. He was extremely kind and felt like a “sandwich ChatGPT” who knew absolutely everything about sandwiches! We were also lucky enough to have a private tour, and it felt like he carefully selected sandwich spots based on our personal taste preferences. Since it was our first tour in New York, it was such a great opportunity. As sandwich shop owners from Korea, Ben’s philosophy on sandwiches was truly inspiring and valuable to us. We joined a couple from Italy. The tour was informative. Our tour guide was knowledgeable. We learned a lot about sandwiches. We tasted 3 delicious sandwiches. Knowing the history behind these sandwiches made this experience very meaningful.

Our first was mouthwatering tasty, I savoured it all way to the next, washed it down with a great craft beer whilst drooling at the second one then finished off the third trying to work out which was the best!! I booked this for a quick day trip to the city on a whim as it seemed interesting from the description and absolutely enjoyed it. The tour was very interactive with discussions and discovered some great hole in the wall places I will happily return to on future city visits. Fantastic way to spend an afternoon!

Amazing experience. The guide (Ben) is a amazing storyteller and we had a blast. We also did the tour 7 years ago and we loved it and this time it was even better. Ben was wonderful. He had a great energy and was fun to be around. The food was all delicious, and I appreciate that he filled us up without making us feel over-stuffed. He introduced us to places that we would have otherwise walked right by. Now we know some of the secrets of Times Square. He has a great personality and we would love to take more tours with him.

This is not just a food tour that takes you to places you might not otherwise find but also a fascinating history tour. Ben was amazing and so enthusiastic about teaching us about sandwiches and debating about what a sandwich is. Highly recommend this tour and it was really nice length of time. What an amazing experience. Absolutely excellent time! This was my second tour with Ben after doing his Brooklyn sandwich tour last year. The sandwiches were fantastic, Ben remains an awesome storyteller and I was still thinking about the sandwich debate a few days later. I’ve lived in NYC for 16 years and am a major sandwich enthusiast. A hand-held balanced meal! The flavor and texture symphony! The classic sandwich shop vibe! There were many years I had one for lunch every day, never tiring of the format, because it’s wonderfully versatile. In short, I am pleased to be something of a sandwich connoisseur. Therefore, I was curious if this legendary local sandwich tour had any new spots or intel for me. I went in hoping to at least be entertained and meet fellow sandwich enthusiasts. (We are of solid, cheerful stock, I can now confirm.) It’s an excellent team adventure. I brought a couple friends, visiting from other cities. What I got was a fun, delicious educational journey with an expert host, a tour I actually want to do again and bring different sets of friends. We had a wonderful time. Ben immediately had us all laughing together, along with the other folks on the tour we had only just met (some of us exchanged info and will meet again). To my surprise, I’d never heard of most of the tour stops. They were unique NYC gems, off the beaten path. And we had a generous sandwich portion at each: you have to arrive hungry or you will not be able to complete your mission of enjoying all the fabulous flavors along the way! Definitely do this tour, even if sandwiches aren’t your passion: you will learn to love them and also get a true taste of local NYC life. Ben is a natural host and ambassador to the whole city, but particularly the sandwiches that represent our fabulous melting pot.

This tour was wonderful - I've been to NYC many times, and done many tours - and this one was awesome. We had two friends that have been NYC locals for 20 years on the tour with us, and they discovered places that they now plan to visit regularly! The food was delicious (priority #1) and I was STUFFED by the end. The tour guide (Ben) was fun and encouraged lively debate. Ben was also conscious that it was SO HOT and HUMID the day we took the tour and managed to find us shade and AC at every turn. We discovered places we never would have found on our own - and will definitely be going back to next time we're in NY! This tour is a real gem and I highly recommend it for any age! We had kids on our tour and they loved it as well.

10/10 would recommend this tour. Particularly liked the overall approach he takes by challenging us to think about what a sandwich actually is. In addition to tasting the various delicious sandwiches, we got to learn about the cultural and historical aspect of these sandwich shops. Ben is a friendly, personable and witty guy with an unwavering love and passion for sandwich. Can't wait to try out his online sandwich courses as well.

Of the half-dozen or so food tours I’ve done in big cities throughout the world this one was the best yet. Ben catered to our vegetarian needs without issue. The food was great throughout, and each stop along the way had a great story associated with it. Ben shared interesting stories about the restaurants and bars, the neighborhood (East Village) and broader city (and about his home Australia too). Good value and fantastic experience. I would recommend this to anyone who loves sandwiches and is interested in learning about the city.

The tour was awesome! Here are 3 reasons why I had a blast: - Our tour guide did a great job at creating an experience that ticked all the boxes, including (importantly), great food, cool part of NYC, fun and inclusive atmosphere, informative, and a nice balance between eating/walking/laughing/and drinking (if you wanted to have an alcoholic beverage it was available). - The sandwiches were delicious and varied! whilst I was expecting them to be delicious, I was pleasantly surprised on the variety.. each sandwich was very different from the last and fit quite well into the narrative and history that we were exploring, which was a nice touch. - The amount of food was plenty. I'm a big guy and was a little worried that I wouldn't be full at the end of the tour. No need to worry about that... and no need to over eat at any stop because of that worry either...! If you were intrigued by any of the above, you're going to have a great experience.

A really wonderful tour. Ben is knowledgeable, funny and really entertaining. We did the Brooklyn tour and were so impressed that we did the East Village tour a few days later. And the sandwiches were both delicious and varied.

My family and I booked this tour based on the many great reviews and we were not disappointed. Ben and Matt took us on a magical sandwich journey. We are locals but we hit little sandwich spots we never would have come across on our own. Ben and Matt were so funny and personable and entertaining and we had many laughs debating the definition of a sandwich. I expected this tour to be fun, but my expectations were definitely exceeded. If you want a really fun tour, with great food and even better storytelling, do yourself a favor and book this tour!

Food, culture, history and humor…this tour has it all!! A truly enjoyable day spent doing one of our favorite things…eating!! A Man and His Sandwich is the king of the sandwich tour, not to mention the nicest guy! Five years ago we went on our first sandwich tour with Ben and had such a great time that I knew instantly what I wanted to do when my family asked how I wanted to spend Mother’s Day in New York! Once again, we enjoyed every minute tasting some of the best, most unique “sandwiches”, this time in Brooklyn, while trying to discern what truly IS a sandwich. To spend time with family, enjoying delicious food, while learning the history, culture and transformation of a neighborhood is time well spent and having the sandwich king himself curate such a tour, was perfection!!
