If you want an amazing and inspirational evening of JAZZ, this is a must-do on your list. The musical talent was off the charts, and the composition was amazing. The church is a beautiful venue, and the music adds to an unforgettable experience. We were to glad we added this event to our NYC vacation.
Very real. Excellent skills. Beautiful music. We felt so much a part of it. Very inclusive. Wonderful voices as well.
Was a very well organized and amazing jazz concert in a nice church environment Would really advise people to go. We found it through the gopass
We booked using our go pass - we were advised to come an hour early, so glad we didn’t as there weren’t many for the Thursday night. We struggled to appreciate the experimental vibe, so can’t recommend. The band came out at 7.10 pm so not sure why we were advised to arrive at 6 - hoping it was a blip as the church is a fantastic venue.
Top class jazz musicians playing some wonderful contemporary jazz. This group really listened to each other and filled the church with inspiring rhythms.
The jazz band we had on the night was great. The only thing we didn't appreciate was the photographer who was jumping all over the place the whole time taking pictures with the flash
Great venue. Awesome, highly recommend. The singers and musicians were amazing. Beautiful church in Harlem, easy to get to. Event was seamless.
We watched the Tevin Thompson band and they were unbelievable. They had such groovy tunes and were extremely passionate about their craft. The church was beautiful and all of the staff were extremely kind and helpful. I highly recommend anyone to come down and watch a show.
The talented jazz band on 21.06 played a great program, and all the musicians were obviously full of enthusiasm and in their element. I liked the music and the atmosphere of the concert, and the organizers were super nice. Unfortunately, the guests were mainly tourists, and it lacked a bit of the "Harlem vibe" that you might get in local bars or similar.
We went to the performance of Tony Lewis. We come from Chile and the concert was a wonderful experience. The 4 musicians were excelent , we enjoyed the show. We had never been in Harlem, where the Church and it's surroundings, is a very safe area, near two metro stations. Congratulations for Tony Lewis and the band!!
Excelent performance of all players, you really feel the essence of Harlem and its music. I would definitely recommend going to Jazz Series
Amazing, talented players! All individually brilliant. However, There are no refreshments or even water, not allowed to take your own. Unfortunately we left halfway through as there was a photographer with the most distracting and nauseous flash consistently. Considering flash photography is not allowed at this event, this was VERY annoying. A lot of people got frustrated and when we informed a staff member, they shrugged their shoulders… it ruined the event!
We had a wonderful time at the concert. The acoustics in the Mt St Morris Church we’re phenomenal! The pews were a little hard for our old bones. However, we made do.
Exceptional Musicians, The TL4! They kept my feet tapping, head bopping and hands clapping. Tony Lewis on drums and not sitting was the best part. Even Yayoi Ikawa couldn't stay in her seat at the piano bench running the keys like a river bank! Gary Foote on Bass guitar made it sound like an upright Bass, so smooth. Sly Scott had the sax singing Hallelujah!
Very accomplished musicians however the acoustics of the church do not help at all. Had they been up on the ‘stage’ it might have helped. It sounded like a cacophony of sound and it’s no wonder so many left halfway through. Very disappointing.
We booked the Friday night jazz through our New York City Pass. The church is really lovely and clearly well-loved and cherished. The jazz was superb. The musicians were all superb and the dynamic and rapport between them of course contributed to their performances and our enjoyment. We were so glad we had chosen to include this in our programme during our week in New York. A great enticement to visit Harlem. We couldn’t recommend this too highly.
Waste of time and money. I think every week they have a fifferent performance. We got a bunch who sounded like amateurs making awful noise in some garage. Nothing iconic or worthwhile here. I am a jazz lover and have been to plenty of concerts. On top of that the area is very sketchy. We left halfway through; several people walked out in first ten minutes.
The Sitson trio performs a fusion of traditional African polyrhythms which is far from bebop or dixieland jazz. It is clear the audience was waiting to listen some different, as half of them left. It would have been nice to know in advance which kind of “jazz” was going to be played, as on the website they mentioned names such as Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis and Duke Ellington, which have nothing to do with the band mentioned above.
Music was great. Did not like the atmosphere. Church was in bad shape. Original songs could have been played more.
Amazing show! I do not know much about Jazz but i had a really great time at Harlem Jazz Series. It was a 2 hour show.
Fantastic original music!! So talented!! The intimate setting made it so enjoyable. Would definitely recommend!
Last week I had the extreme pleasure of experiencing Carla Cook at the Series. As always, the evening was filled with amazing music AND Carla is such a beautiful singer. She gifted us with "The Sea" #sekousundiata I recommend anyone who loves music to come on out. You won't regret it.
We spent two hours listening to a great set. The Church was bright and airy and the quality of music fabulous. Great vibe and something a little different from the norm in NYC.
Such a great find! We’re just here for the Music, it’s a perfect break during the day and was a unique opportunity for our 3 years old to discover Jazz music. There are different musicians every Tuesday’s 12-2pm and Friday 7-9pm. Takes place in a unique Harlem church and nearby great restaurants, subway stop. « There’s more to Harlem than just fried chicken and Gospel. Don’t get boxed in! » Craig Harris. Make sure you check this Harlem Hidden Gem
I was fortunate enough to hear the Eddie Allen Quartet. These are artists that have been on Broadway shows, led big-band gigs, published CD's and accomplished much more. The music is very sophisticated, tasteful and original. Most importantly, the atmosphere was very friendly and all the musicians are incredibly articulate and eager to engage with the audience. I chatted with Eddie, Jerome the drum player, Kenny the bassist, and they were all happy to educate me on the history of the pieces played, the theoretical knowledge behind their playing and much more. Highly recommended!
The Bruce Williams quartet surrounded us in beautiful sound on a Friday night to an intimate audience. The local supporters of this event are welcoming and enthusiastic proponents of jazz and the Harlem community. The setting is a bit unusual for jazz, but the warm acoustics and friendly welcome bring it all together. We wandered the few blocks after an early dinner at the bar at the Red Rooster; a fabulous evening in Harlem!
The curator of this series, Craig Harris, is a venerable presence on the NYC jazz scene, and he uses his network to bring in world class musicians every week. I have been 4-5 times in the last few months, and each time I sit in awe, and comfort, to be thrilled by bravura performances. I will keep coming.
I visited the Harlem Jazz Series after reading wonderful reviews on Yelp which convinced me to go solo. The location is central to most places in Harlem, and was inside of a lovely church. It was the best, intimate way to see jazz live. The Tony Lewis Quartet performed and it was a truly invaluable experience. The concert lasted about 1.5 hours with a break for the musicians and light crowd discussion at the break. All of the people leading the session were kind and welcoming. Support local musicians and check this out! You won't regret it.

What a a wonderful way to spend a Tuesday afternoon. The musicians are very accomplished. I was sorry that there were only a few people there enjoying it with us but that didn't damped our enthusiasm for the music or the experience.

A very nice concert by a group of enthusiasts with a real jazz spirit! The welcome is very friendly and warm in a Presbyterian church with a slightly outdated charm. An experience to recommend!
An excellent concert, be careful to notify that it is for an informed audience! Thank you for a great evening 🙏
Super dedicated artists in a great location. There were also explanations and great singers and musicians! Great interpretations.
Great gig. Included in the go city pass. Perfect for a Harlem start to the evening. Everyone was pleasant and offered us a great experience.
The jazz performance just spectacular. All the musicians were wonderful. Being in jna church, the environment was intimate and close.
Beautiful experience, super recommended. The organizers are very kind and the show was fantastic.
Fantastic and authentic, it was awesome the music, the great Craig Harris and of course the rest of the team of musicians !! . I loved it. Recommended 100%.
Une chanteuse qui parle plus qu elle ne chante Mais un bon trio de musiciens Le concert aurait été bon sans la chanteuse qui n avait pas vraiment une voix jazzy
Incomprehensible. We had booked tickets for Saturday. But no e-mails informed us that it had been moved to Friday. So we canceled our concert over the phone. But still using our go city qr code. It's a terrible thing that we're completely unable to use our tickets on the last day.
Very nice presiberian church in the heart of Harlem, right across from Marcus Garvey Park. This is where the Harlem Jazz Series event is hosted: I took advantage of it thanks to the free New York Pass, but the event that night was too special, fusion and out of line, even for those who have been chewing jazz for a while. I recommend looking for information about the evening's event (changes weekly) in advance before booking.
We liked the concert, but the behavior of the audience much less! Unrespectful, noisy audience, certainly people who are not used to jazz music, and who do not frequent the theaters. It ruined the show a little!
A musical wonder for jazz fans, a big flat for trip advisor who sells tickets without communicating an address, which earned us 30 minutes delay!
My visit was on a Tuesday morning. I fell in love with music from the first moment they started playing. Each of the members had their own material, that is, they had composed their own songs. Highly recommended.
