Jared was an awesome guide. He shared so many fabulous stories and took us to great venues. I would highly recommend doing a tour with him

Itinerary
The meeting point for the group is always at a park where there is seating, shade, and water. While the group awaits for all the attendees to arrive, the tour guide will provide some general colonial history of New York City and deliver interesting facts related to the era — like why we say 'bucks' instead of dollars, why 'Houston' is pronounced differently in NYC, and much more. Once the whole group is ready, the tour guide will provide a small introduction about the speakeasy tour and explain how long it is, how many speakeasies will be visited (it's usually six or seven), and at which speakeasy the group will be allowed to grab a drink. The tour guide will also explain where the tour ends, which is always an area with nightlife, bars, clubs, and restaurants — all located in close proximity to subway entrances. On every tour, the first drink is enjoyed at the first speakeasy. In most cases, the group will either skip the line, get a reserved table, or both — but skipping the line is guaranteed. While enjoying a high-quality, internationally recognized, award-winning cocktail, the tour guide will explain about the causes and effects that led to passing the 18th amendment (Prohibition). The guide will not only explain how and why it was passed, but the history of alcohol consumption in the US in general, the history of alcohol taxation, and most importantly, how the US tried to enforce Prohibition. For each drink, spend up to an hour, but in most cases, the group only takes around 40 minutes. Tour guides are obliged to assure that no one feels too rushed to finish their drinks because they are high-quality crafted cocktails that ought to be savored and enjoyed. Some speakeasies will have even Burlesque shows, but all are completely hidden from the exterior. Go through unmarked doors, back alley ways, phone booths, a bank's vault door, behind a psychic shop, through doors indicating 'No Entrance,' 'Emergency exit only' or even through a Five Guys burger joint. Most of the speakeasies are so well hidden that most of our clientele are actually locals struggling to find them, even with the physical address on their phones. At the last stop, the guide will give the option to either stay at the last speakeasy for a third drink or to explore the stimulated and vivid neighborhood where the tour ends, where there is many nightlife establishments, restaurants, clubs, bars, stand up comedy, life music and much more.

Cool and very different hidden speakeasy venues with yummy yet very different cocktails in each, with a great dynamic guide who shared a great amount of i fo in a fun way while creating a nice group dynamic
Our guide Alex was extremely informative. His knowledge of this time period was amazing. He brought history to life. We all enjoyed the experience
The tour was great and was as it said. Stef was fantastic, very friendly, informative and fun. The bars we visited were full of history and would not have been found had you just walked around New York looking. The cocktail's were equally enique, finding some new flavors and mixes.
Alex knew a lot about the history and cocktails of the area. He was very easy to talk to. Our group was a perfect size just 5 and we were able to sit around a table together to converse easily about prohibition. He made great recommendations for drinks and other places to go. The speakeasies were varied with something for everyone. It was hard to pick a favorite.
Awesome experience highly recommend . The guide was extremely knowledgeable
The host is great!! Very responsive and kind. All the necessary details were communicated well and a contact number was provided if anything was needed.
This is a fun pub crawl with 4 stops and lots of great stories and explanations from the knowledgeable tour guide, Stefan. He really made the experience fun and special
Amazing Tour ! Alex is a very informative historian! Fun Evening !! The tour included three Speakeasy . We did not feel rushed . Alex answered all our questions with enthusiasm!
Tour guide cancelled without notifying us. The bar we were meeting at let us know that the guide would not be coming. Very disappointing to waste our time coming to the meeting point. I understand things happen, but with no notice and no direct message from the tour guide or viator is unacceptable.
Disappointed this was cancelled by the operator. We were only informed 3.5 hours before the start time by email. Reason for cancelling was 2 of the 3 speakeasy bars were closed for private functions!! Surely this would have been known earlier to give us a chance to rearrange our plans. Very annoying that we have wasted an evening in NYC through no fault of our own.
The Guided Speakeasy walking tour of NYC was a great experience! My wife and I had a great time listening to all the stories and learning all kinds of great historical information from our extremely knowledgeable and multi-lingual guide Alex. He is a great guide. Truly great at his craft. All of the speakeasies were awesome! Hidden and obscure, there is no way we would have ever found any of them on our own. We enjoyed it all and each place was very well thought out and planned. They were historic, original and completely unique. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the tour and would love to have the opportunity to try the experience again. Thanks so much to everyone on the whole operation of this tour who prepared the drinks, your service, and of course Alex for a wonderful experience! 😊 Rob
This was an amazing tour with fantastic curated stops with each stop having a different vibe. Alex was a great host and was a wealth of information. His grasp on history and geography was amazing and he made the night so interesting. The drinks at each location were delicious and the service at each was on point. This was our favorite activity in this trip and would highly recommend it. It makes a great date night, friends outing or solo traveler experience. Thanks for a great night Alex!
Great tour with intimate feel- definitely felt like a true speakeasy experience & selections of bars were not touristy in the least. Alex was a wealth of information & did not seem scripted. This was a sure highlight of our trip! Would recommend for anyone who enjoys good drinks with great atmosphere
Such a fun tour! Alex was a great guide - he knew so much about the history of NY! The drinks were delicious and the bars were beautiful and interesting - places we would never have found on our own.
Great talk and very informative. Drinks excellent guide Steph was grear. Speakeasy was verycool. Would do it again
Stefan was a great guide and very engaging and fun to talk to and tour with. He took us to 3 incredible bars, each with their own style and flair (one was even on a gorgeous rooftop!) Drinks not included, so budget accordingly but well with the time and price for an interesting history into the age of prohibition, and a fun night out!
Alex was an excellent tour guide. Extremely knowledgeable about soeakeasies and history in general. And he was extremely personable. Would 100% do it again!
Alex was a fantastic guide with so much passion and knowledge for this subject. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It felt like we were just hanging out with a good friend. Relaxed, easy and so interesting. The stops along the way were all different and really worth seeing! Highly recommend this tour!
Alex was a great guide and showed us places we would have never found otherwise. We learned a ton and had a lot of fun on our journey.
We had a fabulous evening! The speakeasy’s were exactly what we were hoping for and our host, Stefan, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining! I highly recommend!
You visit places a tourist would never find on their own with insights from a local. Drinks were expensive but the experience was unique.Really cool!
Alex, he is amazing. He is brilliant, funny, fun, knowledgeable, speaks like 5 languages-WOW! Honestly the best time we had in NYC.
This was a great experience and so much fun! Highly recommend this tour. The guide was fabulous and really knew his history.
Alex is a charismatic and very knowledgeable guide. He tells the history of prohibition and of the speakeasy in an interesting and entertaining way. The locations visited varied in style and locations but all had something unique to offer. Folks should know that cocktails and food are available for purchase but are not included in the tour. The variety and craftsmanship of the cocktails were excellent.
One true speakeasy. One bar and one hidden bar. Drinks were good but expensive. The speakeasy was fab! Would have stayed there all night.
This tour was so interesting. Alexander, our guide was amazing with all of his historical facts. The Speakeasy’s we went to were all great places to stop and have a few drinks. All of them had a great assortment of drinks, so there is something for everyone. I highly recommend this tour and if you get Alexander, you are very fortunate!
This was not a speakeasy tour. First, we met at a random location that USED to be open, and might have been worth seeing, we will never know. The second location was a speakeasy, but used coffee cups to serve drinks and the bartenders were not dressed up at all, so cut the vibe in half. The remaining bars were fine bars but just taking us through a back entrance does not make the hotel rooftop bar a speakeasy. Lyonel, our guide, was not the problem. He was sociable and tried to insert some history and ambience. Also, the second bar had a great jalapeño drink, but again, not a speakeasy.
Very informative, excellent knowledge and hospitality from our guide. Walking shoes a must but absolutely worth every minute
Great walking tour with a knowledgeable tour guide. Would recommend to friends and family seeking a unique night out in NYC.
Great tour. Guide was very knowledgeable, informative and personable. The places visited were unique in a number of ways - decor, drinks, etc. Highly recommended!
Fun bars/speakeasy's with strong drinks and an educational history tour! Lionel was our tour guide and did a great job explaining the history of the prohibition era. The last bar had a wonderful surprise that really topped off our night. We also taught Lionel some Canadian history of the Sh*ts Creek motel, Ryan Gostlin and Rachel McAdams 😉 Met some great people on the tour as well.
This was a fantastic tour! Lily was incredibly interesting and informative and we so enjoyed our evening with her. We were the only 2 people who turned up for this tour but that did not affect our enjoyment or Lily’s presentation. Her passion for history is remarkable and we learnt so much about NY and prohibition. All whilst sitting in the best hidden venues drinking fantastic cocktails. What’s not to like?!
The guide was very good, but the bar we were supposed to go were not. One didn’t get Apple Pay ( we didn’t get a notice before), and and other had 50 dollar minimum so we didn’t get inside. We were very disappointed from the bar choice.
Stephan gave us a lot of interesting history of prohibition and organized crime in New York. We enjoyed some great cocktails and learned a lot.
Great way to spend our last night in New York. Our guide Lily was wonderful and great company. A very knowledgeable young woman. Highly recommended.
Lyonel was very knowledgeable. We had an interesting discussion about prohibition and the speakeasy establishments. We were amazed with two of the locations. You would never even know there was a speakeasy on the other side of the establishment.
It was a great way to see new places. The group we had was really fun! And our guide Lionel was great!
I went on the tour with the tour guide, Lyonel. He’s a funny guy who’s very knowledgeable about the history of prohibition. He’s very entertaining. We got to try a lot of very unique drinks at the establishments on the tour. He makes good drink recommendations if you get some choice blindness. He’ll even let you try the cocktails he orders you’re a lightweight who shouldn’t order a full drink at each of the 3 stops. 3 of us were celebrating Leo season birthdays. He made it very special. I highly recommend his tour. I travel to NYC a lot to visit family and I hadn’t ever heard of or seen any of those places. It’s very much worth the price.
The guide Lily knew a lot about New York and didn't just explain the whole history of the speakeasies but also the city. Great places to visit and as a tourist you would never find those places yourself unless you do a lot of research.
Lyonel was knowledgeable and passionate about the amazing history of NY prohibition and speakeasys. The places visited were great - each had a different vibe. The only challenge we had was There were two different addresses listed, and we received a text, confirming the one address and telling us to ignore the other address. That turned out to be the wrong address, which created a lot of confusion. However, Lyonel was flexible and met us where we were sent which was very helpful, especially since one of our party has an injury
Lyonel was a great guide. He gave a lot of history about prohibition and the 3 spots we toured. My mother and I had a fabulous time and the group of 8 total was small enough to hear everything easily. The cocktails were delicious and very unique. We had no trouble getting in to the places. Lyonel was very organized with pictures on an iPad to add to his stories. We were never rushed with our drinks. He even brought us to a delicious pizza place when the tour was over and explained the best way to get back to our hotel after.
A little history and a lot of fun. Our guide, Darius, was excellent! Would recommend to others looking for something fun & different to experience.
Darius was a great guide and made it really fun! The 3 speakeasy’s we visited were so cool! I took my two grown daughters and we enjoyed ourselves.
Lyonel did a wonderful job with this tour! He was very knowledgeable and came prepared with pictures to make the experience even better. We went to 3 places and that was plenty because you spend about an hour at each one and the drinks were pretty strong (for me, anyway). As another review says, the other people in the tour make it even more special. It was a relatively small group, but each person was from a different place. I loved the diversity! Everyone was so friendly.
Very bad experience. The guide didn’t show up at all. We could not reach the guide in any way ( the phone number in booking was not correct.). So never book this tour! We think it is scammed!
Love the history that was shared on the tour. We met new people and shared lots of laughs! Lyonel knew his stuff about the speakeasies we toured, but even better he incorporated great party trivia into the mix!
Very informational and full of history tidbits. We visited three different places, but I would have enjoyed more. Would go again.
Our tour guide Jett was very knowledgeable and very personable. We went to 3 spots and learned a lot about speak easys and prohibition.
I highly recommend this activity! Alex was very knowledgable and the speakeasies he took us too were wonderful and had amazing drinks. It was my friend and I's last night in New York and it was a great way to cap off our visit. If you're looking for something different to do and to see some hidden gems, check out this tour!
