We are avid food tour people doing these all around the US and by far this was one of the best tours we have ever had! The food is amazing the businesses and their staff were extremely friendly and the scenery was great. Best of all was Cindy, she was just WONDERFUL!! Extremely knowledgeable, we new nothing of Chelsea Market, and funny, best tour guide ever!
Joe was great. Started out with a history of the market, then took us on a food extravaganza! Little bites but very filling and a perfect variety. He made sure we all stayed together and at each restaurant made sure we all were seated to enjoy the food. Highly recommend this tour!
Title: Eight Amazing Tastings and One Incredible Guide — Ask for Jackie! What a fantastic experience! We spent today exploring Chelsea Market and the High Line with the absolutely wonderful Jackie Ostick, and we couldn’t have had a better time! Here’s the fun part: We actually took a food tour with Jackie a couple of years ago, and had no idea she’d be our guide again today. Imagine our excitement when we realized we’d hit the jackpot twice! Jackie is truly exceptional. Her energy is infectious, her knowledge of Chelsea Market and the High Line is impressive, and she has the best stories and fascinating little bits of history that bring the whole neighborhood to life. She’s funny, engaging, warm, and just a genuinely lovely person. You can tell she loves what she does, and that enthusiasm makes the entire experience even more special. And the food! Eight tastings — yes, EIGHT — and every single one was excellent! It was a delicious way to explore such an iconic part of New York City. We’ve done our share of food tours, and Jackie is the kind of guide you remember long after the tour ends. Getting to experience another one with her was such an unexpected treat. If you’re considering this tour, book it. And if you’re lucky enough to get Jackie as your guide, you’re in for an absolutely fabulous time. We can’t recommend her highly enough!
This is my 4th tour with this group! It is well thought out (happens just as market opens- so not busy). Foods are ready as we arrive at each spot. Delicious stuff to try- even for my 16 year old. Cool stories about the neighborhood and the history of the building itself. Our guide seemed genuinely excited to spend her morning with us!!
This was the Best food tour we have been on. Lots of food and our guide Cindy was great. The tacos were my favorite.
Excellent tour. Food was amazing from every place we visited. Our guide Cindy was brilliant. So knowledgeable and brilliant fun
If there is one tour in New York, that you are thinking of, this Chelsea Market one is a must, with Foods of NY Tours. I did Greenwich Village the day before which was excellent, and I’m going to do a review on that. However, I absolutely loved touring this market. First, the tour coordinator, Cindy made this worth every penny. She is a wealth of knowledge. A historian for New York and this tour. Her enthusiasm was priceless! And she, along with the owner of this tour, presented the best of this market. The crowd size was appropriate. I liked that it was capped at a certain number because we all got to share in the experience together. The three hour tour was just right as we started on time. Chelsea market is a remarkable reinvention of a historic building. Not only did we get to enjoy some wonderful food right from the start, but it was consistent right through to the finish. And, to hear the history of this area was fascinating. I was not aware of everything on this side of town. And take note, this is a place where the Food Network frequently films. This is a foodie’s paradise. And, Cindy nails it with her passion of NY and food. I was blown away by the Japanese miso infused curried beef taco! How do you even go there? We experienced a beautiful crostata that I couldn’t even dream of making. And, Amy’s Bread was absolutely perfect with what was almost like a pistachio croissant. Every single place we went to was a unique experience well worth the time. I love Chelsea Market so much that it is going to be a must on every New York visit. In fact, I ended up going back in the evening to eat there again, the same day. I truly have to thank Cindy for making this well worth my time. I’ve been to New York multiple times, but never did any organized tours. When I get back to New York again, I think I will do this tour all over. It’s a foodie’s dream! Again, I highly recommend taking any one of their tours based on this experience. I can’t imagine that it would be any different on the others. If you’re a foodie and you love New York, this is an absolute must!
Chelsea Market was fascinating. Timing the tour at 10 AM was perfect as it was not nearly as crowded as it was later on. The food selection was excellent and we learned a lot of the area history. A walk on the High Line is included as well.
The tour was just okay to me. I’ve had better food tours booked through Viator but this was my least favorite. I felt like for it to be a food market the options were lacking big time. 1/2 hotdog, a piece of cheese and a piece of chocolate were 3 of the 8 options. The guide was nice and knowledgeable though
Joe was an amazing guide! History and the choices of foods were perfectly balanced. Businesses were happy to answer questions.
Wonderful place with lots of history. Joe was knowledgeable in the market and vendors delicious food
We were given a gift certificate by our son. I'm a picky eater and was a bit hesitant but when I saw all the choices of tours that were offered, we chose the Chelsea Market tour. I really enjoyed it. Joe was our guide, and he was so knowledgeable, fun and friendly. The food was very good. The one thing I didn't eat, I was able to take home so my husband could enjoy a "second helping". Make sure to visit Chelsea Market Baskets - they have delicious chocolates, teas, and fun items to buy for yourself or as gifts.
Food was great , pizza, chocolate, Gelato, Bread& More, Robin our guide was Awesome!! A+++++++++++++
Our tour guide was Cindy and she was a blast. She shared all sorts of interesting facts and stories about Chelsea and nyc we’ve taken multiple food tours in various parts of nyc and this was the best. Highly recommend
Joe is very amicable. He is passionate about the food and knowledgeable of the history of the Chelsea market. Ask for Joe on this tour !
Great guide, delicious food and interesting history of the market area and high line. Cindy is the best!!
We enjoyed learning about the meatpacking district, Chelsea market history and the vendors in the market. If we had not gone with Joe as our guide, we would have likely just walked in and eaten one place and left. We loved sampling options, no lines and all of the vendors clearly knew and liked Joe. We enjoyed then walking up on the high line. Definitely worth the time to enjoy vs just eat in the market. Come hungry bc the food samples are super generous and quite a variety.
Joe was awesome his knowledge on the city and food was awesome. Would love to do another tour with him any time.
So much fun! Lots of yummy tastes, definitely enough for lunch. Joe was great! Very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Learned so much more than I thought I would about the history of Chelsea Market and the High Line! All the food was delicious!
Great food choices, and some excellent pieces of history passed along at the same time! Definitely a great way to spend a few hours and get to know the area a bit too!
Lots of great food, but not a lot of time or walking in between each stop since the whole tour, except for 30-40 mins, took place inside the Chelsea Market. Was great for us since it was cold outside, but just not the experience we’ve had on other food tours.
Food was great and well thought out. Pacing of tour was just right. Robin was a great guide!
Excellent tour with our amazing tour guide Cindy! Food was amazing and we learned so much! I highly recommend!
A must do & I’d recommend doing it early on in your trip for future food ideas. Robin was amazing & we fell in love with Chelsea Market. My husband and I really appreciated the small history chats, the tie bits from a local, and of course the food. Our three kids tolerated the first two and enjoyed the last. Highly recommend & doing another tour may bring us back sooner than expected.
It was a pleasure to have Joe as a tour guide. He made the entire experience immersive and interactive. This was my fiancés Christmas present, and it was a very memorable experience for both of us.
Excellent food sampling and great history about the area. Learned about how this area became developed and is now a desirable area to visit. Our guide, Joe, was great. We enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in food and learnt about this area. Enjoyed the high line walk also
Unbelievably incredible!!! Joe was the absolutely best!! Will Always request him on future tours. He was accommodating and so knowledgeable and funny. Great sense of humor. Highly recommend this tour.
Joe was fantastic! He did a great job of providing interesting historical context while also keeping the tour moving at a good pace. I took my two teen daughters with me and he kept their attention. Food was delicious and portion sizes were not too big to enjoy all of them!
Robin was amazing. We’ve done several food tours here in NYC and this was definitely amongst our best. We had unique experiences that we otherwise may not have tried, but will definitely go back to.
Cindy was fabulous - informative and entertaining! I enjoyed the variety of foods especially Dickson Meats. Also nice to get out on the High Line!
Hands down one of the best food tours we have ever done. Our guide, Cindy, was so much fun and provided interesting information and facts about Chelsea Market. We would absolutely recommend this tour, and are looking forward to booking another tour when we return to NYC!
Our guide, Joe, was a delightful combination of historian, foodie, actor and NYC native who enjoyed showing us the delights of the Chelsea Market. He had lots of interesting anecdotes and backstories to share about the building, past and present uses, and about the vendors we visited. During our tour, we enjoyed a delicious biscuit and 2 jams, a zucchini frittata, handmade hot dog, cheese/fig, handmade choclate, Asian fusion taco and delicious crispy crust NY pizza. Then Joe took us for a walk along the High Line, telling its history and current efforts to maintain and protect the oasis in the lower Manhattan. Finally, we returned to the market for a delicious scoop of gelato. Plenty of food on the tour, something for everyone’s tastes. (And vegetarian group members who had informed the tour co were seamlessly accommodated as needed)
This was a perfect decision for a post NYC marathon food tour! Robin is a great host/tour guide, and the food was delicious. We enjoyed chatting with the others in our group as well. Highly recommend if you like good food, good people and neighborhood history.
I did the Chelsea market tour with one of my friends and we had a blast! It was fun to learn more about the history of the area and surrounding food spots. Joe was a great tour guide. I would 100% recommend.
The tour was great! Joe was our guide and he was awesome. It was a tour where we learned about the history of Chelsea Market, the meat packing district, each place we ate and all the different food. Great food, unrushed, very enjoyable!
Amazing food with a great guide. Joe. Joe was a charmer and very well versed about Chelsea market and the area. You could tell all the food vendors really respected him. Joe was also very conscious of keeping us safe making sure we crossed the street looking both ways. He kept his ducks all in a row! Highly recommend this tour and spending a Sunday in that area.
Fun tour and great guide! 3 hours was just the right amount of time to do 9 or 10 food tastings and learn the history of Chelsea Market. The High Line piece of the tour was a great additional experience. This guided tour was worth my time and money. Great guide, very knowledable, polite, helpful and passionate about the city and it's history.
Excellent!! Joe was the best guide. He knows, food, NYC and he’s great with people!! Highly recommend this tour.
My first food tour was a success! Our guide Joe was very knowledgeable and animated not only about Chelsea Market (where majority of tour takes place) but nyc history and its architecture as well. I think what I appreciated most was how the vendors at the stops were prepared and ready for us with minimal waiting. Maybe it was just our luck but there was always a table available for the seven of us to enjoy our selections as well. That’s probably one advantage to a tour early on a Sunday morning (10 am) as most of nyc is still not awake and crowds have not yet formed. Fun and different way to spend a few hours with friends!
Had a great day touring Chelsea market with our guide Joe M. Joe was knowledgeable about key nyc facts and was fun and gregarious throughout our tour! The food stops included offered delicious samples of nyc cuisine.
Excellant tour. Informative and lots of fun. Food was delicious. Our guide, Joe, was great! Highly recommend! Go hungry and you will definitely leave full!
A fun experience with a fabulous tour guide. Food was great and portions larger than expected too! Joe was full of knowledge of the area and history facts thrown in made it so enjoyable!
We had the best time on the Chelsea Market and Highline food tour! Our host, Joe, was great! He shared so much information about the history of the area, the shops, and the food was all delicious, and there was plenty of it. At the end of the tour, he shared recommendations for additional places to try, answered questions, just an amazingly welcoming person, and a real foodie. I would definitely recommend this tour. Thanks for the great time Joe!
The food alone is well worth the tour price. Excellent food, great commentary while learning some history. A must do!
We had a fabulous time with Cindy. She was fun, had a great sense of humour and gave us a history of Chelsea Market and the area. We sampled 7 different dishes within the market, which is an interior market. For those with average appetites, it was enough food for lunch. For those younger and more active, it may not be enough. Cindy walked us outside for a climb up the stairs to the High Line and explained the history because going back to the market for gelato! All in all a very enjoyable experience.
If you're looking for a typical tour, please move on... Joe LaRocca's tour is anything but typicial. He leads, he feeds and absolutely succeeds in captivating his audience from the first morsel of Chelsea Market history... to the improvisational streams of consciousness to the last morsel of food (gelato of course). Everyone left happy and wanting more. What more can any performer ask?
Had an amazing time! Joe is very knowledgeable about the history. The tastings were great. Make sure you bring water or you can purchase some there. Would do it again!!
We had a great experience with Cindy. She is very knowledgeable, has a passion for keeping everyone entertained and kept the tour moving at a good pace. Plus bonus; we saw several spontaneous but quintessential NYC events that Cindy was able to seamlessly meld into her tour.Food was great, would have liked to spend more time on high line. This is a must do attraction!
