At museum at 10:15am & bought tickets without delay. Took the free 10:30am tour, lead by “Dora” who was informative & engaging!! It was 75mins of getting the highlights, just fabulous!!! Wished we had the day to really explore, a marvellous museum.

Absolutely brilliant What an experience The best museum we’ve ever been too Make sure you take your time and do the planetarium Don’t want to ruin it so not many pics Just go!!
Excellent exhibits, beautiful building. Allow 3-4 hours to see everything.
we spent 2 days there is so much to see plus the neighborhood/Central Park are lovely in October
I enjoyed moving between the very different worlds inside the American Museum of Natural History. The dinosaur skeletons were impressive, but the mineral halls, meteorites, blue whale model and animal dioramas were just as memorable. The elephant group and surrounding habitat displays made a particularly good place to pause. I also liked the curved spaces and bridges of the Gilder Center. My planning notes put adult general admission at approximately US$35.77 after currency conversion; this was a budget reference, so check the ticket options when booking. I would choose a few favourite sections and leave time to look closely.
This place is huge. Lots of cool stuff. We spent 3 hours and did not see all. Floor plan confusing and signage fair. Ate at Gilders food good. Beware No free refills on drinks. Food a little slow but acceptable.
Very nice and impressive. Very educational and beautiful!
Wonderful museum! It is huge so plan at least 2 to 3 hours there. Definitely worth visiting. Great for kids.
The museum is amazing with so many exhibits. Great way to spend a couple of hours on a rainy day in New York.
It is a large museum and we went primarily to see the dinosaur exhibit. We did start in the Animals of Africa exhibit and the taxidermy and displays there were amazing. It made me sad though to gaze into the eyes of these animals and know that they were killed for this purpose. The dinosaur exhibit areas were interesting and the explanatory material was very complete, including details about how changes had been made to the names and positioning of the dinosaurs over time as new information came into being. The movie about dinosaur extinction was brief, but if you've seen any of the specials about the mass extinction, it was somewhat disappointing. The Big Bang theater was well done, but then being dumped out to walk around its outside and try to read the details of the creation of the cosmos was tough because the photos and explanatory material were way below eye level. Food options here were grim. Soup at the Cafe at least was warm, but seating was limited and the sandwiches and salads weren't good. Lots of specialty gift shops - dinosaurs, outer space, stuffed animals and main gift shop.
A lot of walking! A lot of reading! A lot of patience! Extra time! Be ready to learn! Make sure you have enough storage on your phone for lots and lots of pictures!
Extremely boring. Would not go back unless you have never been to a museum. Absolutely no interactive exhibits. Took our 12 & 14 year olds and they were bored. We’re from California and have some amazing museums so this was a disappointment.
There is a lot to see. We spent 3 hours in the museum and still didn’t see everything. It was very educational and enjoyable!
Such a wonderful museum! Was there 5 hours & still didn’t see it all. Will definitely be back.
AMAZING!!!! What a wonderful experience! So much to learn and see. Plan for all day and two days if you have the time. Really great for young adults and adults alike. A true highlight of our trip in NYC.
I enjoyed the first hour, but then it began to feel redundant and there was too much to see. We walked for so long and it ruined the rest of the day because we were exhausted. My advice is to definitely see the dinosaur floor and look at the blue Whale, and pick one other area that you’re interested in. We did not even go to several sections, although we were there for well over two hours.
Animals of all continents on display very lifelike in natural habitat set up; I am from Africa and seen all of these in that continent section and can certainly appreciate it. Recommended that my grandkids from Canada do this trip.
Museums aren’t really my cup of tea, but I have to say, we were so glad we had the opportunity to visit the American Museum of Natural History. There are so many fascinating exhibits and creations, and you can really appreciate the time, effort and attention to detail that has gone into putting everything together. We spent around 3 hours here, but honestly, we could easily have stayed for 5 or 6 hours and still not seen everything properly. There are coffee shops and restaurants on site, which is handy, and the whole place is well managed and reasonably clean. The staff were all polite, friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit, even if museums aren’t normally your thing. Just make sure you allow plenty of time — there’s a lot to see!
1st time in New York. This was a must. Easy to get in. We downloaded the map and ventured through 4 floors. When we had questions someone was there to assist. We had a wonderful time.
Interesting and fun for kids and all family, museography is outstanding, only long lines to come in with ticket already purchased didnt understand
Family of 7, kids 5-12, had a wonderful time. Our legs were worn out after walking the museum for 5+ hours. We only took advantage of one experience that general admission doesn’t cover which was the butterfly terrarium. We went on a Monday and it didn’t feel too crowded. We started on the 4th floor (dinosaurs) and worked our way down, which worked great. If you choose to eat in the food court, be prepared to spend some money. The depth and scope of the exhibits were great. If we lived nearby, we would definitely have a membership. Very easy to get to from the subway. If you had to choose between the liberty science center and here, choose this!
Do NOT get these tickets via Viator. We still had to stand in line for another 30+ minutes waiting to “exchange for actual tickets” with everyone else who had not yet bought tickets as Viator is a “third party vendor” thus there was ZERO benefit to buying our tickets ahead of time on Viator
Amazing displays, vast museum. Probably need a day if you wish to see everything. The Go City also gives you ticket access to a timed event/ exhibition. We chose the butterfly house. Worth the money for the wildlife exhibition alone. No queues swift security checks. Well worth the visit.
Don't book with Viator. It's a suggested donation for admission so there's no need to book ahead. You still have to go through the lines so you might as well just get there early and by.
Amazing Museum. We spent at least 5 hours viewing displays. The Dinosaur exhibit was very impressive. I saw dinosaurs I hadn't seen pictures or displays of before. It's unbelievable to stand beneath or beside such huge creatures. We spent most of our time among the dinosaurs. "Allison and Roberto Mignone Halls of Gems and Minerals, featuring over 5,000 specimens from around the world, including both gems and minerals." was awesome. I've never seen anything comparable to it. We also visited the Butterfly Vivarium which was excellent. If we'd had the time, we could have spent another entire day at this museum.
Disappointing. Just not a lot to see and signage was lacking and there wasn’t anything that felt special. Much prefer history museums in D.C. and Chicago.
Was a great experience I would definitely bring my family next time for the same experience. First time to New York in general too was awesome 👏
An absolute must for dinosaur fans, I had not known there was a titanosaur on display anywhere which was a great surprise. Nobody has a collection to match this. To my mind, the rest of the museum tends to be a bit dated... the era of diorama with taxidermy this and that is long past. So skipped most of that. Fans of archeological artifacts presented in traditional museum style will find a lot of that, sadly ran out if time to see much of that. On the whole, the museum could usevan upgrade unless you want to look at it as preserving what museums used to be! But the fossil halls are second to none and well worth a visit.
Alot to take in, so much to see and do. We had a awesome time, learned so much. Very nice museum. Highly recommended!
The Museum is massive big with lot to see and most impresive are the dinosarous skelotones and animal encloures. its must go visit while in NYC. can stay and see what most interst you or catches your eyes, one of the largest in the world. Was a nice experience.
So amazing! I could spend days exploring this museum, loved the extra ticketed experiences as well, worth the extra money!
Incredible!!!! The displays of animals and birds are absolutely outstanding, I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else in the world. A real treat and worth every cent. We allowed two hours and it wasn’t nearly enough
Dinosaurs experience doesn't worth the time. You should be prepared to walk. Plan your time there...
Meh... We really enjoyed the dinosaur exhibits. The rest was nothing more than what we've seen at the Bass Pro Shops back home.
Start from the 4th floor and work your way down, it is well maintained and too many things to see, loved it
Amazing set up, all exhibits were incredibly life like...not sure of they weren't?? So much to learn, give yourself lots of time...4 or 5 hrs
The museum is very very huge. There is a lot to see.
One day may not be enough. Loved it. Take your time with every area you will enjoy, there is something for everyone
No point. I had to stand in a queue for 45mins and collect a ticket anyways which would have been same as showing up and buying the ticket.
My daughter (14 years) & I spent about 3 hours at the AMNH and there was still so much we didn't get to see, so if possible, do plan to spend the entire day there. The museum is a great educational experience for kids & teens, bringing geography & history to life. We particularly loved the exhibition on minerals & gemstones- it was so fascinating!
Waste of time The displays are outdated. Nothing fascinating about them. I don't think I've ever met a ruder set of employees than the staff here at the museum of natural history. One elevator was out of order as well which made for long lines if you didn't know where the other bank of elevators were, Not to mention just the enormous wait just to let us inside when it's a heat index of 100° out
It’s a bit overwhelming- the sheer size of the place. I highly recommend taking a free 1 hour tour. Loves seeing the blue whale, T. rex, and the bison. Such wonderful exhibits, I have to come back. Shout out to Arlene the guide, seems underestimating to say,. She not only talked through as we walked through the exhibits she brought a very warm lovely story telling to the experience, I felt like I was on an elementary school field trip/ without the lunchables. Anyway l, highly recommend, gotta check it out.
We enjoyed the museum. It is amazing. At the beginning I thought 3 hours would be enough, but we spent almost 4 hours. We would visit it again!
I loved the museum. There’s so much to do and see, I’d recommend the moon exhibit with the famous moon rock. It can get busy but would suggest squeezing it into NYC visit. The tickets are reasonably priced too
I was so excited to come here on my trip to NYC but ultimately left after only 45 minutes because it was so incredibly loud that it ruined my day. Do not come if you have sensory issues.
I didn’t get to experience anything because I tried to cancel and customer service was not helpful in getting this done. I was not in New York for this event. I was trying to book for July 10th, 2026. Human error made and I just want to be refunded for this booking.
As a total museum lover, I absolutely loved here! Glad I booked online to skip the massive ticket lines. The exhibits are stunning, and it’s really educational for kids!
Highlight was the planetarium I paid extra to go for, no regrets. Many floors of differently themed exhibits. Really felt the vibe of NOTM here
The museum was amazing and on a Smithsonian level experience. The add on options are amazing and make it appealing no matter if you are a senior citizen or a child. Gift shops had large selections and were fair priced. I highly recommend and I’d come back to visit again.
Give your self plenty of time it’s worth it to just walk and look around there is a lot to see and it is very interesting.
