This tour exceeded our expectations! The technology worked smoothly, with incredible locational accuracy. The tour was interesting informative and entertaining! We will definitely consider these self guided tours again!
great value! we learned so much! we walked at our own pace! the tour had great information and even a little humor
The audio follows you on GPS, so you are always on track and walking in the right direction! It’s so helpful for people like me who tend to wander. It will also allow you to pause and take a diversion if you want to. We stopped and visited the Central Park Zoo and then resumed.
It was good, but then meeting (starting) point provided was wrong. We ended up having to walk an extra half an hour to get to the actual starting point, which meant that we ran out of time and were not able to finish the tour. The meeting point given was 213 E 60th Street. However, the correct meeting point was the Metropolitan Club. Everything else was good. We enjoyed the stories, and the directions were correct once we got to the actual meeting point.
This is so great for one or two people with a tight schedule. We could do everything on our own time. We stopped in the middle and went into the Frick. The tour was even better than I hoped. Loved all the information! Well done!
We took this Gilded Age walking tour and it was a fantastic experience, start to finish. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable, and brought the drama and opulence of the era to life. There were vivid stories and details we would never have discovered on our own. The route was easy to follow, the architecture was stunning, and it brought us to hidden corners of NYC which captured the spirit of the time. We’ve done other TellBetter tours - they’re all engaging, easy to follow, and we’re not rushed as we control the pace. The Guilded Age struck a nice balance between history, storytelling, and enjoying being out in New York City. This is a great tour for anyone who wants an immersive experience with the city’s past.
This walking tour is excellent and the app is easy to use and it tracks where you are and plays the appropriate information automatically. Very informative and interesting. We enjoyed it very much.
I thought the narrator was great. I could picture the scenes as I stood in front of each spot on the tour. Most memorable were some of the contemporary aspects that were sprinkled into the gilded age stories. I also had to look up pepper mills & Porfirio Rubirosa;) I’ll definitely do another tour like this next time I’m in NYC, or anywhere.
We enjoyed this informative tour and going at our own pace. Highly recommend! It’s nice to not have to be somewhere at an exact time.
Fun and affordable way to see this section of the city! We had a bit of trouble getting the hang of it in the beginning as our starting point wasn’t lining up with audio. Once we figured that part out, it was a lovely stroll.
Perfect pace for a solo tour. I was able to stop and start when I saw different things along the way. They even tell you where there are restroom stops. Extremely informative.
Great tour to do alone on a beautiful day in NYC, especially ending at the Met. I was under the impression from another tour that all the gilded age mansions were gone, but this tour took us to lots of different homes. Lots of great historical information!
Better than with a live tour guide. The quality of the script is outstanding. The information is thorough, the presentation is brilliant, both enlightening and entertaining. The technical aspect is what really surprised: the GPS tracks your location and tells you to cross the street, to look to the left or to the right – it's very well done. There's no "dead time" as with a live guide when you walk from one location to the next; you are being talked to the entire time. You have the flexibility to rewind, pause and resume, answer a phone call, take a break. Game changer!
This was AMAZING! The app was easy to download and worked perfectly. It knows exactly where you are, which cues it to begin the respective story. It also gave clear directions on where to go, when to stop, etc. The narration was super entertaining, and we learned a ton. It was so good, I bought a package of tours as a wedding gift for my brother and his wife because they love history, traveling and are introverts like my husband and me :-)
The audio was super easy to follow with such clear instructions and the stories behind the mansions were fascinating. We would even do it again!
This audio tour was excellent. My friends and I found it easy to follow the walking directions and filled with lots of very interesting tidbits of history of the Gilded age mansions and modern day millionaires/billionaires. You can start it at any time of the day for the date you signed up. Sarah, Kelly and Denise from Texas highly recommend it to everyone.
We THOROUGHLY enjoyed this Gilded Age tour! The stories and history were informative and entertaining. The production values and the use of GPS/timing were excellent. We especially loved the music tracks and the nuggets of interesting details that were provided throughout the tour. This was our first TellBetter and first VoiceMap tour and we’ve already decided to do the Washington Sq Park tour next.
I highly recommend this tour! It’s An Informative clearly spoken audio. It even warns you that you’ve walked off track if that’s the case! The best is that you can Walk at your own pace. I’ll take another one soon.
I took The Guilded Age Tour last week. What an enlightening self-guided tour through the elite and exclusive world of the late 1800’s - 1900’s! I’ve done other TellBetter Tours around NYC, and this is another that did not disappoint. Having walked past some of these mysterious millionaires’ mansions before, I had no idea of their amazing histories. It fills in the gaps of how the elite lived back in the day, and more importantly … how they got there - often with dirty tricks. And the tour bridges history to present day, pointing out some of the current or recent elites now owning them. It’s told with humorous anecdotes which creates a living history tour - not a musty museum version. The convincing character voices, music and sound effects and realistic audio production makes this tour convincing and realistic - the closest thing to stepping back in time. Do it!
