This tour took me into spaces that I would have never seen on my own. Alex was a great guide and really made the buildings, history and quirks of NY building codes and rules come alive. It was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend 3 hours and see some of the iconic mid-town buildings, hotels and addresses, and some sleepers that should be iconic! The amount of walking was easily doable for this almost 70 year-old. Highly recommend whether it's your first time in NYC, or you think you've seen it all (like me!). Taking this tour you realize you haven't!

Annabel our guide on the mid town architecture tour was really fabulous. Her knowledge was perfect and she made the history of the area come alive . It wasn’t just an architectural tour it was a terrific history tour of the origins of the buildings and all the players involved. We learnt about the past centuries of New York and how the buildings that remain were part of its wealth and growth. One of best tours ever!
Annabel’s three-hour Manhattan walking tour was absolutely outstanding. I was so impressed by both the depth of her knowledge and the thought and care she brought to every part of the experience. She was incredibly well prepared and organized, but what made the tour especially memorable was how personal and responsive she made it. Our group asked questions throughout the tour, often taking the conversation in unexpected directions, and Annabel seemed to have a thoughtful, perfectly clear answer for everything. She has a remarkable command of Manhattan’s history and an obvious passion for sharing it. I especially loved her little pop quizzes, where she would ask us to imagine ourselves in the shoes of New Yorkers from different periods, backgrounds and social classes. Rather than simply giving us dates and facts, she helped us think about what it might actually have felt like to live here at different moments in the city’s history. She truly brought Manhattan’s past to life. And then, after the tour, she went even further. Annabel sent me an incredibly detailed email filled with books, articles, documentaries and other resources related to the things we had discussed. It was a wealth of information that will allow me to explore the history and stories from our tour in much greater depth. Annabel went well above and beyond what I ever would have expected from a walking tour guide. I learned an enormous amount, enjoyed every minute of the three hours, and came away even more fascinated by Manhattan than I was before. I’m genuinely grateful that she shared so much of her knowledge and passion with us. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.
Excellent tour. Learned a bunch of interesting facts. So happy we went. Pace was great. Very thorough and knowledgeable.
A 3 hour tour with an exceptionally experienced guide who took us to buildings that were unique. The variety of architecture was amazing and quite unexpected. I can’t speak highly enough of this tour.
We met Annabelle outside the Plaza hotel at the appointed time and the 6 of us went inside to start our tour. Annabelle was an excellent guide. She clearly loves the subject matter, has built up a great knowledge of the buildings & surrounding areas, but most importantly she listens to her guests to constantly learn new facts. She presents the buildings’ history from a human interest standpoint which makes it all highly-relatable. The 3.5hrs we spent together flew by. We learnt loads and left wanting more. This tour and Annabelle in particular are top-notch, thank you.
Annabelle was a wonderful tour guide. We appreciated her thorough tour of Midtown Manhattan. Such a wealth of information, and somebody who obviously really loves her city. She was very flexible with the tour and willing to go longer than planned if we wanted. She switched things up just to match our architectural interests. And just a genuinely fun person to talk with.
This was a fantastic tour. Annabel is an excellent guide! I learned a lot about NYC history and architecture from the late 1800s to present. I highly recommend it!
Our guide Annabelle was absolutely amazing! She made our tour engaging for all 8 of us, sharing so much information about history, art and local culture. Highly recommend this tour!
Excellent tour! Annabel was so warm and friendly. A fantastic tour! Would really recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about New York history
The mid town architectural tour was fantastic. We learnt so much about NY history and how diferent historical events reflected into the city skyline. Annabelle was phenomenal; very well informed and she has a talent of telling stories and making the tour most enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Annabel was a knowledgeable and fun tour guide who gave us a great tour. However she only covered 4 of the listed itinerary sites: The Plaza, The St. Regis, the Waldorf Astoria, and Grand Central Station. We saw much more, but if you’re looking to check certain boxes you should discuss with her.
We had the most wonderful time with Annabel on the Midtown Manhattan architecture tour. Our three hours were packed to the brim with in-depth information on the styles, sights and history of our walk. My wife and I are local and have been on many tours, but this is one of our favorites of all time. Thanks so much to Annabel for the engaging conversation, insight and the passion that drives her love for this city!
Very informative walking tour of key buildings and public spaces in Midtown Manhattan. We traveled with our two kids, 11 and 14, and our guide, Annabel, was very knowledgeable and at the same time able to adapt the content to engage both us and our kids. We felt like we got deep insights into the architectural history of the area and some insider tips too on places to see that are accessible to the public. A really fantastic experience! The full walking tour was about 3-3.5 hours long but the guide walked at a slow pace so this activity would be accessible for many types of visitors. She also built breaks and rest stops into the tour as needed. Highly recommended!
Jonathan was excellent tour guide would highly recommend him and if I go back to New York City love to take a tour with him again. OUTSTANDING
Annabelle was amazing! She was so nice and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our time with her so much that we will seek her out for future visits to New York. Highly recommended this tour and Annabelle.
Annabel, our guide, was very knowledgeable about architecture in the area, having lived in NYC for many years. She introduced us to areas we would never have otherwise noticed. Highly recommend!
Midtown history and architecture
You will learn so much. Annabel was fantastic. I have no idea how she kept so much info in her head!
What a great tour! Annabel was so knowledgeable and made the 3 hours so interesting and fun. We loved this walking tour so much that we hope to do another when we visit NYC next time. Thank you Annabel.
We learned soooo much more about Manhattan! We took our 2nd Walking Tour and recommend it to visitors and locals. It's incredible how you can walk past and through so many buildings and not see what is right in front of you! We were enchanted by the history and evolution of the city, and by our guide, Annabel! She was kind, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and fun. We enjoyed great conversation and education. When you are next in Manhattan, make time for a walking tour - you will be enlightened! And this comes from life-long New Yorkers!
Annabel was fantastic! So much knowledge about the history of NYC. It’s a wonderful way to see and learn about the city.
Annabel was an amazing tour guide - it was like hanging out with a friend for the day! She adjusted the tour to our interests and stayed extra time to talk and share her extensive knowledge of NYC. We did luck into a tour where it was just my spouse and I, so it was super easy to have an ongoing conversation with our guide. Thank you Annabel - we hope to see you again on another tour next year!
This is a tailored tour based on the interest of the group. Annabelle was knowledgeable and engaging on a personal level. She made connections to historical events and present day life styles. Just a short while into the tour you forget you are not just strolling around with a architecturally passionate friend.
Annabelle was a fantastic tour guide! We learned so much about the buildings of NYC and the different styles of architecture represented throughout the city. She was so knowledgeable and had such a great personality. She really made it fun! I highly recommend this tour.
We really enjoyed our three-hour architectural tour, which was like a "survey" course of major architectural styles in New York via examples like the Plaza, the Villard mansion, the Apple building, etc. I liked that our guide provided historical context and helped us understand the "backdrop." But what we loved was her explanations of contemporary issues like "air space," privately owned public spaces and the scaffolding problem. The tour made us just want to learn more.
We had our tour with Annabel, she was undoubtely the best tour guide I have ever had. Kind, forthcoming and extreamly knowledgable, we would recomend her hughly to anybody willing to walk a bit.
Our guide Annabelle did an amazing job of showing us the architecture of NYC. She was very knowledgeable of all the different buildings and their architecture. She also provided a lot of historical background about the building and the cities
We come to Manhattan every year, this was a new and wonderful way to see some famous and amazing buildings. Annabelle was charming and extremely knowledgeable.
I recently took the Midtown architecture tour led by Annabel, and it was absolutely outstanding. While the itinerary included many of the iconic buildings you'd expect from a Midtown tour, what truly set this experience apart was Annabel herself. She brought the architecture to life by weaving it into its historical context with a blend of insight and charm. Her eye for detail was remarkable - she highlighted features I would have completely overlooked on my own. I was also impressed by her access to buildings and her rapport with staff at various locations - this added a layer of depth and authenticity to the tour that I hadn’t anticipated. This tour was a highlight of my brief stay in New York City, and Annabel was a truly exceptional guide.
We had an incredible morning with our tour guide, Annabel. We found her engaging, knowledgeable, friendly, and thoughtful. We learned so much about our old neighbourhood and had a renewed appreciation for Midtown's history and architectural beauty. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to develop their understanding of Midtown and Manhattan. THANK YOU Annabel!
A small group walking tour and by far the one out of four tours that I chose that was most enjoyed. The guide, Annabelle, although small in stature stands as tall as the builings of New York. She expertly tunes into the vibe of the group and adjusts the tour to fit. She is a long time New Yorker and could likely answer many questions you have extending beyond architecture. Altough I was completely unaware of the various design phases of architectural progress in New York, Annabelle was able to connect and provide an eye opening experiece. Annabelle's knowledge of New York and her passion provides an expert guided tour that every tourist should add to their itinerary.
Very enjoyable tour, saw some wonderful buildings. Tour guide was an absolute delight and gave some interesting insights about NYC which was lovely as we are first time visitors.
Annabel was such an awesome tour guide. Her wealth of architecture of the buildings and the history of New York was amazing. She was so gracious and friendly, I wish I could have hired her to be my tour guide for our entire trip. What a wonderful lady!
A very thoughtful tour led by a very thoughtful guide who gets to know you. Had a fantastic time with my father and I would recommended it well.
Annabelle is by far the best tour guide that I have met while doing city tours. She took us everywhere, everybody knows her and like her and she knows a lot about history, art, design and architecture so thank you! Keep up the good job.
Annabelle is the best tour guide we have ever had in the city. She not only had an incredibly in depth knowledge of the history and architecture of the Midtown buildings, but was also able to get us inside many buildings, stores and hotels to explore the interiors of the historic buildings that took the experience to a whole other level. She was amazing. Highly recommend!
Annabel is an amazing and knowledgeable guide, she has so much passion about architecture and its history, we have learnt a lot about architecture in New York.
Is based more on history rather than specific architectural components of the buildings. Annabell was very kindly informative regarding unique aspects, historical transactions, and variables regarding the different buildings we visited. It was really a pleasure to learn from her!
An excellent experience. Recommend it to everyone. Our tour guide Annabel was extremely knowledgeable and a delightful person. We all enjoyed it immensely
Annabel was amazing … what a wonderful tour. She personalized the tour for us. She was highly engaging and full of information and stories. We learned so much. We highly recommend this tour!!!
Annabelle was a GREAT guide! Her knowledge and enthusiasm were unparalleled. One of, if not THE, best guides ever! Highly recommend!
Annabel was a fantastic tour guide. She possesses extensive knowledge of history and architecture, and her enthusiasm is infectious. Her storytelling was captivating, and I especially appreciated how she involved us in the historical narrative. I highly recommend this tour. We have been visiting NYC at least twice a year for the past thirteen years, and it was surprising how long we waited to take a guided tour, considering the number of times we admired buildings and wondered about their stories and architectural details
Annabel was a knowledgeable and engaging guide. The tour allowed us to see both outside and inside a number of architecturally and historically important buildings in midtown Manhattan. We recommend for those looking to learn something while sightseeing!
Our tour guide Annabel delivered an highly engaging and first class history lesson in a series of fantastic locations. The information flowed beautifully and was entirely accessible. Whether or not you have an interest in Architecture, this tour delivers a great sense of New York City. It rained a little during our trip but we weren’t outdoors all the time and the terrain was easy and the pace was comfortable. And there were good restrooms and coffee stops on route. We highly recommend the tour and Annabel as your guide. We took the tour Saturday 5 April. Peter
Very informative tour. Annabel was very knowledgeable about the history, evolution of the city thru the years and the architecture. It gave us the opportunity to see the city in a different lens. Definitely recommended.
This tour was one of my very best experiences in NYC and probably the best tour I have ever experienced in many years of worldwide travel. Annabel is so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and personable. Having experience as a tour guide myself, I recognise an outstanding tour guide when I see one. Annabel is absolutely top notch. The pace of the tour was just right - many important and impressive buildings were visited and discussed in detail. I especially appreciated being able to go inside many of the buildings. The communication pre and post booking was also exemplary - informational helpful and personal. Thank you Alex and Annabel! I cannot imagine a better tour company in NYC, or anywhere else for that matter. (I also did the High Line tour, same comments apply!)
Annabel was amazing. Engaging, patient and knowledgeable. The experience was beyond just the tour. We all enjoyed it throughly. Highly recommended.
The tour was great and very insightful about Manhattan architecture and history. Our guide was very mindful of the group and the weather and adapted the route to make sure we stayed warm enough. Loved it and absolutely recommend if you’d like to know more about how Manhattan has become what it is now.
Annabel provided us with a very informative and easy going guide experience. She seemed to weave the architecture with the personalities of the time and captured our imagination. Highly recommend and will definitely take more tours.
