Katharine was an amazing tour guide. I had been to this museum many times and knew almost nothing compared to what I know after this tour. 10/10 recommend!

Itinerary
New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art attracts nearly as many visitors as other leading galleries like the Louvre or the British Museum. Its roughly 2 million works of art and artifacts cover everything from ancient Egypt to modern art. From the Great Hall, you’ll see the museum’s most important galleries. Pass through the Medieval Europe gallery on your way to the Studiolo from the Ducal Palace. Explore armory form the Middle Ages, including pieces worn by Henry VIII. The American wing hosts the staircase from the Chicago Stock Exchange as well as the famed portrait of Washington crossing the Delaware. A host of European painters including Vermeer, Picasso, and Van Gogh await you as you learn about their troubled yet exciting lives. All the while, your guide will explain how this iconic American museum differs from its older European counterparts, especially since it began before the United States was even 100 years old. Highlights generally include: (if artwork is not on loan or being restored) Henry VIII armor, Tiffany Autumn landscape, Chicago Stock Exchange Stairs, Madame X, Pop culture then and now, Hudson River School, Washington Crossing the Delaware, Jan Vermeer, Madonna with Child, Picasso, Seurat, Van Gogh, and more.

Our guide Rob was so knowledged and had truly interesting stories to share. This guided tour was the highlight of the whole NY trip.
In October, I had the pleasure of taking a semi-private tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Mark, and hands down, it was the best art tour I’ve ever experienced. Mark’s depth of knowledge was remarkable, but what impressed me most was his ability to make connections between artworks, artists, and movements spanning centuries. He brought the museum’s incredible collection to life in a way that was both engaging and insightful. Beyond his expertise, Mark was personable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about sharing his knowledge. I left the museum not only with a greater appreciation for the art but also with a desire to learn even more. I can’t recommend him highly enough and will absolutely be booking another tour with him the next time I’m in New York City!
Charlie wasa wealth of knowledge about the art, the museum and the City. He made the tour fun and enjoyable.
Charlie was a great guide who brought the art pieces at the Met to life for us. I learnt a lot and truly enjoyed my time on this tour. Thank you Charlie!
Mark, tour guide for the Metropolitan Museum is an outstanding teacher: engaging; entertaining; professional; personable; experienced and deeply knowledgeable as a result of a lifelong passion and relationship with the Met. He loves what he does and cares deeply about sharing his knowledge and insight to spark curiosity and inspire his clients--his students--to understand context and meaning of each piece or work of art reviewed. My wife, a retired professor emeritas and myself both left thoroughly impressed and grateful to have been taught by best and most captivating guides we have had the privilege of meeting on one of our many travels and adventures. Hire the best. Hire Mark. Worth every penny and every minute of your time you can afford at the Met. Like us, you will look forward to coming back for another teaching session from Mark. In my case, hopefully we will be back on my birthday next year! (Thanks again Mark!)
I loved Charlie’s insight into NYC and Met history - the stories behind it all. It made it much more interesting! The art world has very colorful characters in it! 2 1/2 hours is not long enough!
Rarely have I met a museum guide as engaging, humorous and knowledgeable as Charlie! I was captivated from the very beginning: by the way he welcomed us, introduced us to one another and briefly told us about himself—who he is, where he comes from and what he has done. It all flowed naturally, was thoroughly enjoyable and was just the right length. I was truly amazed by how he brought the highlights of this fantastic museum, The Met, to life for us. Time and again, he surprised us: “And now turn around—over on the other side, you’ll see…” Suddenly, we would discover another painting, sculpture or fascinating figure. With his wit and extensive knowledge, he made the tour both wonderfully entertaining and exceptionally informative. When I return to New York, I would love to book him again as my—or our—guide. Dear Charlie, thank you so much, and congratulations on the wonderful tour you gave us today! Peter from Zurich/Switzerland
Mark from Babylon tours was fantastic. He brought us into the art and pointed out pieces to give a hometown flair for each of the home cities in the group (the Siren for Seattle). There is so much to see and Mark gave us a good taste of it. If you have interest in art, art history, and the ‘behind’ the art, this will satisfy.
Charlie did a phenomenal job. Super knowledgeable and hit all the highlights!
Charlie was our guide… he was amazing. His explanations and enthusiasm was spot on! Kudos for making our tour of the Met such a wonderful experience!
Matt was knowledgeable and his passion for the history of the pieces was infectious! Great tour! I highly recommend NOT going at it alone. Book this tour!
This was a truly enjoyable tour. Mark was fantastic! Knowledgeable and enthusiastic, which really enhanced the experience. I have done a few tours through other companies and I have to say that this was the easiest experience navigating to and from the museum and each exhibit.
We did the MET tour with Mark, and had a fabulous time. I would highly recommend the tour for first time visitors (us) or people who have been before. You get to see the main highlights, but Mark also pointed out several hidden gems and provided extra insight into many of the museums paintings and even the museum itself. It was very fun and one of the highlights of our trip to New York! I highly recommend the tour and Mark was extremely knowledgeable and fun!
Mark Venaglia is superb. A+ Enthusiastic, excellent communication, superior knowledge and interesting anecdotes. It’s easy to see he loves his job and wants his viewers to see things in each painting from the artist’s eyes. Highly recommended.
Mark was an amazing guide! I have not been to the Met before and he showed us all the highlights, some secret gems and interesting stories. I’m so glad I was able to experience this. Thank you, Mark.
Charlie was knowledgeable, engaging and animated. We learned a lot and were entertained at the same time.
Our tour guide Charlie was one of the best we’ve ever had. He didn’t just tell us the facts about the art but rather made it an interactive experience, including us in dissecting the story and understanding the meaning of the paintings. Very enthusiastic and funny!! Awesome guide!
Mark…was incredibly knowledgeable. We were the grateful recipients of wonderful insights about art, artists, and the Met. Plus Mark’s energy and humor were a huge plus….wonderful tour guide through a gigantic array of collections. Truly money well spent.
Mark, our guide, was a wealth of information. When you have limited time for your overall visit, and such a massive museum to cover, it was a no brainer for us to get a guide to ensure we made the most of our time. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Mark was informative about museum exhibits AND the history of the museum and its architecture. He was personable and listened to and followed up on our interests. We highly recommend this tour.
Robin was an excellent tour guide. So enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining. This tour was an overall introduction. I plan to trying a different tour in depth with Robin.
Mark V. Was our guide for this tour. He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He quickly adopted the tour to highlight our particular interests and knew exactly where everything was located. I highly recommend taking this tour with Mark V.
Charlie had a magical way of keeping the group intimate despite it being a very busy, crowded day. His knowledge of art history was in-depth and worldly, yet never dry - he was a captivating storyteller who made what could have been an otherwise daunting experience feel completely manageable, and I learned so much. Great conversation throughout, and he made the whole group feel at ease with each other. He was also lovely and accommodating toward me and my service dog. I’d choose him as my guide again in a heartbeat. Despite booking last minute, Babylon Tours sent timely information and made the meeting point easy to find - the whole experience was accurate, seamless, and highly professional.
We had an amazing experience! I would highly recommend to anyone visiting New York. The Met is incredible, but could be overwhelming. Charlie covered so many areas. He shared his knowledge not o Lt of the art, but also of the Met itself and the rich history that has made it the iconic museum it is. He was engaging and shared stories about that made it all very relatable. Both me and my 13 year old daughter loved it!
A true highlight of our family trip to NYC. The Met is a must see and we are so glad we got to spend it with our guide Mark V. Knowledgeable, Energetic, Kind and Curious. Thank you to our introduction to Henry Tanner and Winslow Homer with such passion. What more could you ask for! Terry, Monique, Zoë, and Callie. P.S. Don’t forget John Brown was a Jayhawker :)
Our first time at the Met and I am glad we chose to go on a guided tour to get a good introduction to one of the world’s great art museums. One of the advantages of booking with this company is your tour size. Only had four people on our tour and I think the tour size limit is eight, so you aren’t going to be in a huge group trying to squeeze in to seeing the artwork. Price of tour includes the admission ticket. Our group’s guide was Charlie, who did a great job keeping us entertained and on our toes. Very knowledgeable about what we saw. We also got a great workout trying to keep up with his fast pace. LOL. Saw the museum highlights, which included the Temple of Dendur, Washington Crossing the Delaware, and the Impressionist rooms of the museum. The Met museum is huge and no one should expect a 2.5 hour tour to include everything. I would use this tour as a good introduction to the museum and then you can go back and see what interests you once the tour was done.
Mark V. was the perfect guide for us! He was energetic, informative, engaging and a lot of fun to spend a few hours with. He gave us an in depth, and most importantly relatable, exploration of The Met and we walked away having thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. We randomly ran in to our kids who were doing a self-guided tour and he always took a minute to give them some "hey, you may not have seen this" attention. You can tell that he is well respected by the staff at the museum which makes getting in and around easier (you bypass some lines!) We will return to the Met on our own and continue our exploration with the information he gave us in our back pockets.
Our guide Mark was amazing…so glad we booked this experience! The tour was perfect…highly engaging and effective coverage of the MET.
The Met is overwhelming. I have been more than once, and walked out more than a little exasperated. Kevin was able to zone in what would be interesting to us and really make it come alive. It was amazing!!!!
Mark was our tour guide for the Met Museum. He was full of energy, knowledge, and focused on ensuring we got all of our questions answered. Time flew by as Mark shared insight after insight. We really appreciated his approach to sharing knowledge by weaving into effective storytelling.
Great communication before meeting in meet up location and check in was seamless. Cherie was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed her insights. Small group tour was a great way to get an overview of The Met with plenty of time to ask questions.
It was the best aviator museum guided tour I’ve ever had. Our guide picked up quickly that my 11year old grandchild has a serious interest in art and was not a newbie to art museums.
Our guide Rob was very engaging and informative. Felt it was a great way to see some highlights of the museum.
This tour allows you to hit all of the highlights in an otherwise gigantic museum. Our guide Jonathan was very knowledgeable and gave a great presentation.
Kevin L was an excellent, well informed guide. He kept my early teen children engaged and interested throughout the tour.
Kevin is very knowledgeable and my son loved talking to him.
We have used Babylon in the past and have always been impressed with the guides. This time we had Mark and he was extraordinary! His knowledge of the MET and his excitement made our experience very enjoyable. He shared stories about the MET and about the wonderful art we were viewing. This was a great tour and we would absolutely reccommend. Thanks again Mark!!!
Really the only way to see the highlights of the extensive collections at the Met if you're short on time! Jeff D was an amazing guide and we were the only ones on the tour that day, so it was a private tour - such a value! Jeff is obviously a pro and we were so lucky in that the most popular exhibits (self portrait of Van Gogh, for example) were not crowded. Additionally, he led us to one of the earliest works of Michelangelo which was lost to history and then discovered in a garden. He was quite engaging with our 15 year old niece, who remarked that she missed him when the tour was over and we were looking at some collections afterwards, without the context he provided for the works. Would highly recommend this tour and Jeff D!
Wow, thank you, Mark. His enthusiasm is wonderfully infectious. :) I am by no means an art enthusiast, but he transformed that. Helping me see things I wouldn’t have given a second thought to, and recognize the genius and ingenuity in each artist’s work. And I always love understanding the context and backstory of each piece. I loved learning about the vastly different ways artists emphasize a mood or a message or a concept. I almost didn’t even go to the Met because I thought it might be boring, but I could have been on that tour for eight hours. Sincerely, I didn’t want it to end. Since returning to Colorado, I’ve started a watercolor class and booked a tour for the Denver art museum. I can’t wait to come back and dive deeper!
Rob C. was a fantastic guide. His knowledge was impressive and his delivery was engaging. This is definitely the way to see the museum. Highly recommend!
Rob was great, highly recommend
Rob C was a phenomenal guide - knowledgeable, personable and fun. He took a huge museum and made it manageable- his background stories added depth to what we were viewing and he did a great job connecting 4000 years of art together and educating us on the evolution and revolution of art history.
Rob did an awesome job! We covered a lot of ground but his discussions were clear and thoughtful. Highly recommend this for someone who doesn't have 3 days to devote to the Met
Charlie was great! Very informative and quite funny. You will not be disappointed
Charlie was an incredible guide for our Met tour. We’ve been to many museums over the years, and he shared perspectives and details about the art that we had genuinely never heard before. His insights made the pieces feel so much more meaningful, and you could tell how passionate and knowledgeable he is. He brought unique context to the tour that made the experience stand out from any other museum visit we’ve had. Highly recommend taking a tour with him if you want a deeper and more memorable experience at the Met!
Charlie was a very good tour guide. He was brimming with knowledge and enthusiasm. I loved how he showed himself to us and chatted with us about our lives. Excellent.
Charles was the BEST tour guide! He was informative and entertaining. We would definitely recommend and plan to do another tour! We miss him already.
Jonathan was great! Would highly recommend booking a tour with him. He was so knowledgeable! I knew the MET was huge. And was overwhelmed. He made my visit to the MET amazing! It was one of the most enjoyable things I did on my trip to NYC.
Kevin was fabulous 😍. So knowledgeable and fun!!
Our tour was absolutely fabulous! Our tour guard Mark started with excellent communication prior to meeting and met us with such enthusiasm that we were from hooked from minute one. He was very engaging and extremely knowledgeable and definitely worth booking again! I’ve been to the Met several times, but I felt likeI saw things that I had never seen before. And I certainly heard stories. I’ve never heard before! He has such an appreciation for the collections and the building itself and I know I speak for my husband and I when I say weleft feeling very satisfied.
