We recently spent several days at the Lake House on Canandaigua. Overall, the facility is wonderful. Its lakefront location is spectacular, and the lobby is nicely decorated. The library bar is cozy and offers morning coffee and light breakfast items for purchase. Our guest room was nice, bright, and comfortable. The nightly s'mores around the firepits are a great touch. Unfortunately, I cannot give it a 5-star review. If you are looking for a luxury experience, you will need to look elsewhere. Housekeeping standards fall short of expectations. We found mold in our shower, and the air conditioning vent near our room's front door was caked with dust and dirt. We reported it, and the maintenance staff cleaned both. But showers and vents should be cleaned on a regular basis to avoid these problems. Finally, if you're looking for 5-star service, you won't find it here. While the staff was attentive, only one barista was engaging. There was no standard for staff presentation, and no concern about language or word choice when addressing guests. It's sad to see such a wonderful facility being so disrespected by its own staff. I'm not recommending anyone avoid this property, but if you expect a true luxury hotel experience, you will need to lower your expectations or be disappointed.

We stayed at The Lake House for the first time in July. We needed some R&R after a stressful first half of the year (lost two parents and moved to a new home). This was the perfect antidote. The hotel is a breath of fresh air. Spacious, airy, uncluttered, clean, bright, and right on Lake Canandaigua. Service was pleasant and easy, the restaurant meals were creative, fresh, and delicious. We enjoyed the mix of guests - lots of parents with young children and dogs. Plus older couples. We ride the hotel bicycles to a nearby lagoon one day. They were in excellent condition. And sitting in their Adirondack chairs in the shade facing the lake was a special way to unwind. I even got in a little plein air painting of the property. We highly recommend it.
I really wanted this to be our annual summer resort but found the experience to be pretty lackluster. The location is beautiful and you can tell the grounds team cares greatly for the property. I wish the staff had the same care for customers. We booked our stay through The Edit by Chase the daily breakfast for two ($60 credit for two) was a nice perk. The benefits state early check-in, late check-out and room upgrade are all perks *when available. They only offer us a 60 minute early check-in and 30 minute lake checkout which surprised me, as this is not consistent with other properties. We were not offered a room upgrade. There were options available on the website, that were one upgrade up, so they clearly just decided they didn’t want to honor it. The following were disappointing: - Welcome drink advertised: none given - Hotel room air wasn’t on: It was a 95 degree day so it took hours to cool down. Front desk employee said there was nothing they could do. Eventually (2.5 hours later) they said they could move us but at that point we’d settled in and our baby was napping. - Checked in holding a baby, no crib was offered, thankfully we brought our pack-n-play - No explanation of the property was given at check-in, this is such an easy improvement to be made - Barista in the library is incredibly rude, won’t answer questions and tells guests to ‘look at the board’ - Pool needed cleaned - Mocktail prices are ridiculous - Service is severely lacking for the cost Positives: - Hotel is quiet, I didn’t find there to be any noise issues - The outdoor lawn is really fun at night - Restaurant food was good and so was the service at the restaurants - The grounds are beautiful Sadly it’s going to be really hard to convince my husband to come back. Especially when you’re paying $600+ a night. We only booked one night and from reading the reviews it seems like people who book short stays are treated pretty poorly compared to those staying a longer duration. It’s a nice property but the customer service just isn’t there for the price. Customer experience goes a long way and The Lake House on Canandaigua needs some improvement in that category.
Just spent 3 nights here with a college friend celebrating our 50th birthdays. This is such a beautiful and relaxing place. We loved every minute and that we didn't even feel the need to leave the property. We lounged by the pool, had a cruise around the lake with Molly who was a wonderful captain of the pontoon boat, my friend enjoyed a massage at the spa which she raved about and I enjoyed 2 mornings of yoga - Suzie is the perfect instructor and has such a calming demeanor. Our balcony overlooking the water was one of my favorite places to relax. We enjoyed meals and drinks at the Sand Bar and at Rose Tavern as well as by the pool. Everything was excellent. The customer service and attention we received was exceptional. I am looking forward to returning with my husband!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Finger Lakes for the first time for a business retreat, and I truly enjoyed my stay at The Lake House. From the time I was greeted by an army of valets at the door - to the personalized service for me to be able to check in early after a short wait for housekeeping. My room in the North Cottage was perfect for peace away from the busier parts of the hotel, yet close enough to stroll to the pool and bars very quickly. We had a personalized wine dinner, hosted by the Sommelier on sight and Event/Pastry head chefs - very well done, presented professionally to a difficult crowd - food that night was so good (Duck Wellington, Oysters w/ Cucumber Pearls, amazing salad with candied pork belly and poached pears over a wedge w/ vinaigrette, and steak!!! The ladies who were the servers on the event staff deserve special recognition for their personalized service both nights. I cannot express how good they are at what they do! Thank you all again for a wonderful stay! Looking forward to my next trip up.
