Had an absolutely wonderful experience here—the staff was so kind and helpful with all the little touches that make a stay wonderful (an umbrella on a rainy day, a suggestion for a great bottle of wine from the restaurant’s room service, and of course, a book upon check in). The hotel has wonderful old-fashioned touches (dark woods and marble elevators and brass and chrome fixtures) and it’s on a quiet part of a street near the library district. Not surprisingly catering to bookish people and library fans, the fellow guests were also lovely and quiet. We just had a marvelous experience here and will be back.

I’ve had the best time at this hotel. The friendliest staff I’ve ever come across. Me and my sister were visiting from Toronto and we have stayed in multiple different hotels in the past but this has to be the best one so far. Steven who helps with the door and Erica on the 2nd floor library lounge. They are so kind and helpful. Everyone who I haven’t named were very polite and respectful and made you feel like home. Definitely going to book it again on my next visit! Location was also very convenient. 3 min walk to grand central! Just one thing, I felt the petite room was a bit too small for 2 but big enough for one person.
We are currently staying here…2 nights so far. I highly recommend this place. Check in was great and the bellman, Steven, has been personable and helpful. I’m a light sleeper and never sleep decently in NYC. However, this is a quiet hotel. I hear some noise, but it’s not loud. It’s right by Grand Central Station and it’s been fun learning how to ride the subway because normally take the taxi, but not this trip. It’s super close to Rockefeller Center and Times Square. Easy to walk it. Oh, and I can’t tell you the last hotel I’ve stayed at with daily room service. And we like very nice hotels. It was a nice surprise to come in to a clean and organized room after a long day out. This is now my favorite hotel in NYC. Glad I found it.
This is a lovely hotel which we enjoyed much. Top praise for their friendly, kind, and helpful staff. For a book lover, the decor and book amenities in the rooms and throughout the hotel are fun and inviting. The hotel is organized based on the Dewey Decimal system…LOL. If you want to be in a specific type of literature section, make sure to let the staff know ahead of time. Charming book/free snack lounge is on the second floor, and there is a nice top floor indoor/outdoor bar/view atrium. The room was nicely appointed in our deluxe room. The one pm checkout time is great. We found the hotel location great for walking exploring midtown Manhattan and for accessing public transit. The biggest downside, which I discussed with the staff: - WiFi/Internet essentially nonfunctional, at least in the Apple ecosystem. My Apple devices informed me the hotel WiFi “is blocking encrypted DNS traffic”. This meant that photo uploading and backups and sending photos did not work over the wifi, so had to use cellular data instead. Also their DNS filtering means that you cannot use manual entered DNS server, cannot use VPN. Therefore do not trust the hotel network for e-commerce, banking, etc. so unfortunately probably not the hotel to choose if you are a digital nomad or need to rely on wifi. Also scaffolding bothers views from the hotel, and the scaffolding has reportedly been there three years? So I highly recommend this hotel, particularly for bibliophiles, but they need to fix the unacceptable wifi.
We won a Sunday night stay at The Library Hotel through my hometown library’s annual fundraiser last year and stayed the night coming home from Boston this past weekend. We had a great time and loved the hotel. After a very eventful few days in Boston, it was nice to relax in NYC (we realize the irony). It is down the street from both the flagship NYPL building and one of their circulating libraries, so we were able to visit both after we dropped luggage before check in. I work in libraries, so we planned this whole trip solely around the hotel. The room was comfortable, definitely a step up from our Boston hotel. Very nice bathroom as well. We loved the reading room, with refreshments and relaxing music. We were also appreciative of the 1:00 check out, meaning we could relax more in the hotel before catching our train. It’s a great location, and very friendly staff.
