While the location and price are hard to beat, the rooms at the Hyatt Grand Central fall short of a true 4-star experience. The public spaces and lobby set high expectations, but the guest rooms are notably small, dated, and lack the polish and amenities expected at this level, such as complimentary bottled water and modern finishes. During our stay, the bathroom was uncomfortably tiny, and we unfortunately had to switch rooms due to a backed-up shower tub. Even after being "upgraded" to a Deluxe King, the room felt identical to the standard layout with no discernible difference, except a nicer TV. That said, the convenience of being right by Grand Central and the overall value keep this hotel on our radar. If you prioritize location and budget over luxury room features, it is a workable choice, just temper your expectations for the rooms themselves.

The hotel rooms are dated with wear and tear. There was a moldy smell and poorly working a/c in our room. But great location and cost. On our fourth day, security suddenly started enforcing their policy of checking room keys to enter the building. This policy was not mentioned at check in and did not occur at any other time during our stay. The problem is they weren't checking everyone for keys. They checked me (I'm Black) then not the white family behind me then checked the very next black man. It was clear racial profiling. I asked to speak to the manager who was conveniently unavailable. After waiting, I spoke to security supervisors who provided excuses and talked about safety and said they are supposed to check everyone. If it was EVERYONE, we wouldn't have an issue. While we were talking, I noticed that the same guard stopped checking people all over again, and I pointed it out to the supervisor and we both watched it happen. they said they would "investigate." This ruined an otherwise adequate stay. I would not recommend staying here. "Fun" update: about an hour after my review, we were checking out. The supervisor was standing at the security station. I watched him let a white customer go in without stopping him either. I mentioned that to him on my way out. Tell me again about how the policy is to stop everyone and ask for their key cards.
We had a wonderful stay at the Hyatt Grand Central New York, and overall, it exceeded our expectations. One of the hotel’s greatest advantages is its outstanding location. Being directly connected to Grand Central Terminal makes it incredibly convenient to get around New York City. Whether you prefer the subway or walking, you can easily reach almost any attraction, neighborhood, or business district in the city within a short time. The hotel itself is very large, well maintained, and clean. From the moment we entered, we were impressed by the spacious and elegant lobby, which creates a welcoming atmosphere. Even with many guests coming and going, the hotel felt well organized and professionally managed. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and neatly arranged. Everything was clean and in excellent condition, making it easy to relax after a long day of exploring the city. Housekeeping did an excellent job, and the overall cleanliness of both the room and the common areas was outstanding. The staff were another highlight of our stay. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, polite, professional, and genuinely helpful. They were always willing to answer questions and assist with anything we needed, making us feel welcome throughout our visit. We also enjoyed dining at the hotel’s restaurant. We had both breakfast and dinner there, and the food was consistently excellent. For dinner, we ordered the steak, hamburger, and chicken wings. All of them were delicious, but the chicken wings were especially memorable and quickly became our favorite dish. The ingredients tasted fresh, and everything was well prepared. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of choices. There was an excellent selection of hot and cold items, pastries, fruits, cereals, eggs, and other breakfast favorites. We especially appreciated that there were enough options for people with different tastes or dietary preferences, making it easy for everyone to find something they would enjoy. Overall, Hyatt Grand Central New York is an excellent hotel for anyone visiting New York City. Its unbeatable location, clean and comfortable rooms, spacious lobby, outstanding staff, and very good restaurant made our stay enjoyable from beginning to end. We would gladly stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay while exploring the city.
Our stay at Hyatt Grand Central New York was nothing short of horrible. From the room, to the check-in process, to the check-out experience — almost everything felt like an inconvenience, except for the location. We stayed for 3 nights in total, with a trip to Niagara Falls in between. After checking out on day 2, we requested the hotel to hold our luggage and were charged $4 per bag, per night — totaling $32. While expensive, we understood that since we had checked out, the hotel was not obligated to store our bags for free. What was truly disappointing was our final day. Since check-out was at 11 AM and our flight was at 2 PM, we only needed the bags stored for around 3 hours, yet we were asked to pay again despite already paying such a large amount earlier. It felt unnecessarily transactional and left a poor impression. Another frustrating part of the stay was the lack of drinking water in the room. When we asked the front office and housekeeping staff if there was any water filter or refill station in the hotel, we were repeatedly told no and were directed to buy bottled water from the hotel store instead. On our last day, we discovered there actually was a water refill station near the guest washrooms in the lobby. The fact that multiple staff members either did not know about it or chose not to mention it was honestly laughable and summed up the overall experience perfectly.
When we arrived after a shocking flight we were greeted with polite staff. We originally booked a king Delux room and we upgraded to a junior suit. This room is absolutely amazing, fantastic views, comfy beds and a lounge area. We were even given access to the Commodore lounge which was ideal for tea and coffee and a continental breakfast on days we didn't want to go out for breakfast. All of the door staff have been very nice. The hotel is in an amazing location right next to grand central and walking distance to time square and central park. The is also a taxi rank just up from the hotel which is great. I highly recommend this hotel and I would definitely stay here again
