My wife and I came to the High Peaks Resort with our dog about 12 years ago. We have really fond memories of our stay. Because of that, we decided to stay here again, this time with our kids for a couple of nights. On our first trip, we booked a lakefront collection room, and we were upgraded to a junior suite. This time we booked a lakeside collection pool room with two queen beds. I don't think anything has been done to upkeep these rooms since we last came here. The sliding backdoor was constantly getting stuck, almost pulling out the bottom slide. There was mold in the bathroom. The AC closet was covered in dust. The espresso machine was also covered in dust. We really enjoyed the boats available on the lake, but I think the life vests were the same life vests we used 12 years ago. They were moldy, worn, torn, and stank of BO. The housekeeping person seemed incredibly overworked and tired. They didn't even get around to our room until the evening. The hallways and the stairs are dirty and look like they haven't been vacuumed in a long time. The "heated" pools are heated in name only, especially the outdoor ones. The lakeside pool did not have towels stocked our whole stay. To get to the main building indoor pool, you have to walk through a very stale smelling hallway. The floor is so slippery in that pool, both my kids and another child that was there slipped and fell. All were walking cautiously. We booked our stay about 3 months in advance, choosing the lowest non-refundable rate. Of course they "always" have an end of summer sale, and the price was 20% lower when I checked before our stay. They refused to adjust the price, but gave us a voucher for a free brunch for our party, and only after speaking to their reservations manager. I didn't compare the price to other lakefront hotels in the area, because we were so happy with our first stay, I didn't even bother to look at other resorts, but at the price they charge, look somewhere else. The High Peaks Resort could use a thorough renovation, at the very least. If you absolutely have to stay here, wait for a sale. I'm not surprised they had so many rooms still available last minute for Labor Day weekend. This is by no means a 4 star resort.

My wife and I spent a wonderful weekend in Lake Placid. The High Peaks Resort was perfectly situated in downtown and was within walking distance of all the action. Our room was clean and the hotel was calm and quiet. When we arrived on a Friday afternoon, we immediately headed to Dancing Bears Restaurant and sat outside to enjoy the the weather and view of Whiteface Mountain. As the sun rose on Saturday morning, we drove a short distance to Bike Lake Placid and rented ebikes to ride the Adirondack Rail Trail. That was a blast. We checked out on Sunday and stopped at the Farmers Market in Keene Valley.
Last month, we found ourselves at a hotel across the street from the High Peaks Resort, looking over at the beautiful waterfall out front, and we couldn’t help but think, “Wow, we wish we’d booked there!” We are so happy that we did. The staff is friendly, and the lobby is so welcoming. There are flowers everywhere outside. The courtyard by the pool area is so cozy and beautiful. Parking was so easy, and we loved that it was gated with plenty of spots. We stayed in a two queen room with a mountain view at the resort, and it was absolutely beautiful. The rooms are spacious, and you can easily step outside to enjoy the lake or Main Street, which is close to all the shops and restaurants. One thing to note is that the shower could use a thorough cleaning, and an exhaust fan would help, but it’s nothing that would deter you from using it. High Peaks Resort will definitely be our first choice for a hotel whenever we visit Lake Placid.
Great view from the premier double queen room in the main building. Everything was comfortable and spacious, though our bathroom door did not latch. The outdoor pool area at the main building was lovely. It was a pricey weekend but to be expected in most hotels in LP in the summer.
First, the evening manager Trace is amazing and really turned a disappointing situation and trip into a great one. Some hotels write and ask for feedback and insincere but he went far above to make sure we enjoyed our trip. We were expecting the kayaks to be open but they weren't for a few days and then rain expected so yesterday he opened it for us and many other guests enjoyed it too! He was also very quick to address some initial problems. The hotel has mixed reviews. I'll say the main building and beach house are excellent, great rooms, and very nice. The lake house is the iffy spot, smy of the reviews don't specify but if you are in the main or beach house you'll definitely like the rooms and the indoor pool in the main hotel is substantially nicer. All guests have access to all pools but definitely use the main hotel indoor one if want the nicest. The location and views are great, the service is excellent and if any problems let them know, Trace and the staff definitely want all guests to enjoy their visit. The evening cookies in the hotel are a nice extra and the espresso coffee machines in the room are great. The only thing I wish they had were smart tvs to use your own streaming services.
