-0 star!!! DO NOT STAY IN THE SHOREHAM, IT IS A SCAM! To start, when you first come in the lobby area there are a bunch of weird odd looking men as if they were just hanging out and people sleeping in the lobby area. The room is nothing as they show on the pictures, there is a full size wall mirror in the shower, carpet is stained and dirty, toiletries are not replenished accordingly and there is an empty closet in the middle of the room all broken and exposed outlet. Unfortunately, NY was fully booked in other hotels unable to cancel stay. On our third day (Sunday) of staying in the hotel, they decided to charge a $573.76 smoking fee that was detected by their smoke detector on the arrival date (Friday) at 3:33pm Due to delays and we checked in at 6:33pm. We had to provide our uber receipt of arrival time and provide a form explaining that we do not smoke. They said charges will be refunded with proof of receipt of refund since they agreed that the accusations were false. At the end they ended charging the fee and now we are having to deal with a new headache due to their SCAM! Please be careful, it is better to pay a bit more elsewhere than get scammed by The Shoreham Hotel Management in NY

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! after we checked out they charged my friend's card about $600 USD for a smoking fee even though we do not smoke or vape at all. they said that their smoke sensors detected it and we tried to dispute it saying that it was most likely from hair tools/ironing and they did not do anything about it. they have NO PROOF that we smoked in the room. additionally, on the website it says that the smoking fee is $250 so why were we charged $600??? when i tried to call them to talk to a manager they straight up lied to prevent me from reaching someone higher than the front desk. they even ignored my email requesting my money back where i included proof that we did not smoke. this is ridiculous!!! furthermore, the rooms are dirty, all the towels have some mysterious orange stain, and the bathroom outlet stopped working halfway through our stay. if you think that you will save money by staying here, think again because you will end up paying more here than if you stayed at a better hotel because of the smoking fee they will charge you even if you did not smoke........ ignore the rating i put because i would have rated it 0/5 stars if i could!!!!
I would strongly caution future guests about my experience at The Shoreham. I stayed at the hotel from August 29 to September 5, 2026. On the very last day of my stay, just hours before leaving New York, I was informed that the hotel was charging me a $500 smoking fee, alleging that a sensor had detected smoking or vaping in my room. I do not smoke. Neither does the person who was staying with me. Neither of us smoked or vaped in the room at any point during our stay. What I find particularly troubling is that the alleged sensor event occurred on August 29 — the first day of our stay — yet nobody informed us about it at the time or during the following days. We remained at the hotel until September 5. Had we been notified when the alleged incident occurred, we would have immediately challenged it, asked the hotel to inspect the room, requested that the issue be investigated while everything was still contemporaneous, and provided any information necessary to clarify what had happened. Instead, we learned about the accusation only when we had a few hours left before leaving the hotel and New York. We also saw housekeeping staff throughout our stay, and not once did anyone mention smelling cigarette or marijuana smoke, finding evidence of smoking, or having any concern whatsoever about our room. I immediately disputed the charge and have since had to go to extraordinary lengths to defend myself against something I did not do. I have had to reconstruct my movements minute by minute using timestamped photographs, private WhatsApp conversations, phone records and other personal information simply to demonstrate where I was and what I was doing. The hotel provided me with a sensor report, but a sensor detecting an air-quality event is not the same thing as direct evidence that either guest smoked or vaped in the room. I have asked the hotel for further information and clarification and have categorically denied the allegation from the beginning. There have also been inconsistencies in the information communicated to me. In person, I was repeatedly told that the system had been triggered on two separate days. In writing, I was subsequently told that the documentation requested related only to the incident reported on August 29. I specifically asked the hotel to clarify whether there was one event or two. What bothers me most is the way the burden has effectively been reversed. The hotel accused us and imposed the $500 penalty, yet I am the one being forced to disclose increasingly private details of my life and my trip in an attempt to prove that something I never did did not happen. I am continuing to formally dispute the charge and have asked that the matter be escalated and properly reviewed. I would strongly recommend that anyone staying here carefully monitor their credit card charges and immediately question any unexpected fee. I will update this review if and when the hotel provides a satisfactory explanation or resolution.
I stayed here for the first time August 23-29,2026. Honestly, I don't understand the hate this place gets. The service was good and friendly, and the rooms were clean, quiet and the AC worked very well. Is it showing its age, and looking a bit worn and dated, yes. Could it use a remodel and update to the rooms and public areas, definitely. But it's far from terrible, and nowhere near as bad as some have stated. But the location is FANTASTIC! So close to 5th Avenue, and Central Park, and a short walk to Times Square, Radio City, 30 Rock etc... And 5 min walk to many Subway stations. Plenty of stores and restaurants of all types nearby. I'd say it was closer to a 3 than a 4 star, but the prices were more than fair and well worth it. Definitely worth staying here, and I would stay again and recommend it to anyone wanting a decent, and fairly affordable stay in Manhattan. Solid 4/5 from me 🙂
Was only here for one night to take my gf to the Shakira concert in Brooklyn...stayed in the one bedroom penthouse suite...it has a very industrial modern look to it with, painted concrete floors, glass wet bar with a small fridge. No microwave. The bathroom is huge with a large walk-in shower with rainfall shower heads. It also has a traditional showerhead minus the missing removable spray head. The water pressure in the shower is fantastic, I'm talking pressure washer kinda pressure bordering on painful if you got too close. It also has a gigantic Jacuzzi in the bathroom. It's got to be well over four feet deep. However, it 'currently' doesn't work according the the very aged sign next to it and probably never will again... The living room has floor to ceiling windows all the way around with nice views of the city. There are motorized shades on the windows with a kinda confusing single switch that controls them all. Not blackout shades either. Also, lots of light switches with no discernible function. Not much lighting especially in the bedroom with only two small half burnt out led bulbs and small table lamp. There is a small 'terrace' that you can go out on however it is really just the fire escape and serves as a smoking area for the other rooms on the floor. I enjoyed it sitting out there smoking a cigar. Didn't enjoy the sex noises as much but whatever...the furniture is modern as in hard and uncomfortable and dirty...a can of carpet cleaner and an hours work couldn't hurt. They do offer a 'park and stay' package that gets you overnight valet parking...as with most parking in NYC this is no in and out privileges. You also have to park your car by 10:30 pm or you will still get to park your car but you will have to take it to the garage a block away yourself. If that's the case, as it was for me, then just get the regular room rate and park it yourself as there are 3 different garages withing 500 feet of the hotel. Overall it was a decent stay. The location is great. A five minute wall to Times Square and Central Park. The room just seemed a little dated as with the entire hotel, seems like an older building with about five coats of the old landlord special on the walls. The staff we friendly and helpful. Would stay again.
