The hotel has character and fits well with an old vibe. Very friendly staff and well situated for access around the main attractions of NY. However the rooms are dark and depressing. They need updating and modernising. The lighting is awful and overall sets a somber mood. Want to give Shane a mention - went over and above to make our stay comfortable.

At the time of writing this the last 15 reviews on google all say ‘great vibe and decor’ with 5 star rating. Clearly the hotel is paying for good reviews. So for a more honest experience… The hotel is pretty cool in an old building in good area. Single paned windows mean the hotel even on our 15th floor was incredibly loud and hard to get sleep (loud = traffic, sirens, wind, tv in neighbouring rooms, creaks etc - I’ve travelled a lot, easily the noisiest room I’ve ever slept in) . When you speak to front desk staff they agree, it’s very noisy what do you expect? Terrible attitude. The decor on mezzanine floor is like university dormitory. Not what you’d expect of a 4 star hotel. In the 5 days we stayed here we spoke to about 7 front desk staff. I’d say 5 of which go out of there way to be rude and couldn’t care less about your opinions. The other 2 were ok. The maid was lovely and did a great job. Patsys, the roof top bar and the coffee shop are all excellent, staff and food / drink top notch. If head office read this, you need to start again with front desk. common courtesy and politeness should be the bare minimum skillset for the job. Having said all that we had a fun holiday and enjoyed our stay. Looking forward now to getting home to friendly people and a good nights sleep.
Beautiful building that's full of character and fantastically situated, with some great outlets on site such as Smile To Go and the Broken Shaker. Minor critique that the room on the mezzanine before Bar Calico fills up with people who aren't hotel guests and bring outside food and beverages, which prevents guests from being able to use and enjoy this lovely space. Thanks to Brian and Lawrence who went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable throughout our stay.
The rooms are small, but it’s New York, so that is to be expected. The toilets are extremely low. I had a knee replacement and will need a hip replacement, and could not get up and down from the toilet. So keep that in mind. However, the staff was extremely helpful and moved us to an ADA room, but that is not the norm. Special shoutout to Omar and Hero who were super friendly and greeted us every day with a smile. Nice place to sit downstairs. Cafe attached for food and snacks. Great location, minutes from Madison Squate Park/Flat Iron. Close to subway station and the 6 Train.
I stayed with my wife and my little son. The hotel is very nice and cosy. Excellent location and great service. I’d like to highlight the service provided by Javier Frechou at the front desk. He was always attentive to our requests, consistently proactive and incredibly kind and helpful. He is one of those people who genuinely make a hotel run better. His professionalism, warmth, and willingness to help made a real difference in our stay. Great experience.
