I really enjoyed my afternoon with Shiva. I was able to buy some candy beforehand to give to the kids as we walked around the area. Such an unforgettable and eye opening part of my trip to India.
My sister and I were taken to the slum by Loki who was born near this area. Without him we would never have had the chance to see and talk to the people living in the slum. We felt safe and somewhat welcomed in the community. We had the privilege of having a very brief glance into their daily life and even in their homes, thank to Loki’s expert guidance. After the tour we were even invited to his cousin’s home where we had an excellent massala tea and the company of their two friendly dogs. The tour ended with having another cup of massala tea with Shiva, the man behind the charity. A beautiful soul who dedicates his life to helping the people living in this slum. A must do tour if you want to see the real India, the real Delhi. There’s no reason to be wary of going there.
Make sure driver takes you to correct meeting point Booked the 10.30 but couldn't get across town in time so booked 1.30 and driver dropped me off at wrong address, requested refund for at least one tour but provider rejected refund. So got 2 lots of money for nothing.
We had a truly impressive and authentic slum tour, and it was all thanks to our guide Sunny. The tour started in a very special way with a visit to his home, where we shared a cup of tea together. This personal and warm welcome immediately made us feel comfortable and truly connected. Afterwards, Sunny guided us through the slum and shared many insights about daily life, the people, and the strong sense of community. One especially thoughtful idea was buying cookies for the children beforehand. It was wonderful to see how happy they were. Since we really wanted to buy local spices, Sunny showed us an excellent local stall that we would never have found on our own. The quality was great and it felt very authentic. Sunny is an outstanding guide – friendly, open-minded, respectful, and very passionate about what he does. You can clearly feel how much he cares about the people and the place. We felt comfortable the entire time and learned so much. We highly recommend this tour, and especially Sunny as a guide. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!
Amazing experience from Shiva and Loki highly recommended to see how people live in the slums of dehli. Very friendly people
Fantastic tour, such a wonderful experience, very informative and interactive. Sunny was a Fabulous guide!
Nice and authentic tour. Guide was a local giving lots of information about the life in the slums. People in the slums were not intrusive but thankful when we offered them some snacks.
We were treated to a great tour being shown many aspects of the slums. Gave us a good understanding of the workings of the slums.
We had a wonderful and informative tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and extremely open and welcoming. Seeing the incredible work this organization does in the area and witnessing it firsthand made the experience even more special. Thank you for the amazing tour. Hopefully, we’ll meet again!
Our guide Sunny saved the day after some administrative confusion, by showing up at short notice and taking us on an interesting and insightful tour of the slum area where he lives. We felt safe and welcome at all times, with residents smiling and returning our greetings. We bought a jar of candy to share among the children, who were polite, friendly and respectful. Sunny answered all our questions and gave us a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Highly recommend.
Sunny, my guide, was the perfect ambassador for this very unique experience! Not only did I get to see and learn about this Delhi community first-hand, but I also got to meet its children, residents, pets, and more. While safety was a top concern for visiting solo, there was never a point on this tour where I felt unsafe. Sunny shared the history of our destination, its successes, and challenges. He had a positive attitude, and you could tell he cared greatly for everyone who lived there. I was able to engage with children of the community, ask questions, and never felt voyeuristic. I HIGHLY recommend Sunny -- he made this trip 1000% worthwhile!
We traveled across 6 regions of India, and spent 3 days in Delhi. The tour of the slums was something we wanted to do, not to be fashionable, but more to see how the whole socio/economic environment works. Abhishek was our guide and made us feel safe and was incredibly knowledgeable. We were made to feel welcome by the residents of the slums and went for tea in Abhishek’s home where we met his Mother and adorable dogs. A very humbling and educational experience which stood out as the best of our India 2024 tour. Pete the co-host was great too and helped greatly with finding the pick up point. 10/10
The visit of the Slum with PETE was really interesting They give you the opportunity to see another face of Delhi We really recommended It to fully understand the Life of Delhi people
Our guide was 15 minutes late. When we were walking with him we found out that he wasn't our guide. He came later. A bad start of an okay walking tour where we got to talk to women and children in a kind of office. The price for this trip was really high. We would not recommend the trip. Maybe better find somebody who wants to take you there. 14 Euro per person is just not worth it for 2 hours walking and a cup of tea and cola....
Excellent tour… highly recommend. Very unique experience with a knowledgeable, friendly, and educational guide. This was the highlight of our trip in India.
Take this tour if you want to learn something & understand everyday life in Delhi. It is a true insight into people's reality. I was concerned when booking this tour, I didn't want to feel like I was prying into people's life. It didn't feel like it at all. It was tastefully done, I didn't feel unconfortable but on the opposite, I felt welcome. Our guide, Sunny, was very open and kind. Very knowledgeable and happy to talk about his own life and experience, which I truly appreciated. He is a fantastic guide, a clever young man with a bright future ahead of him, I truly recommend taking the tour with him specifically. Thank you Sunny for your patience and your kindness!
The the pleasure to do a tour with Peter for India Travel. It was such a lovely experience and my guide Shiva showed me around Delhi for an entire day including showing me the Slums of Delhi. Thank you Shiva for the amazing day and sharing your knowledge and wisdom of India’s culture. You are a beautiful soul and I am grateful for calling you my friend. Hope to stay in touch.
We were concerned that was just morbid fascination on our part, but this was definitely not the case. It was a very uplifting and humbling experience. It is well organised and completely safe. Sunny, our tour guide, was a perfect host and explained the temples and the background to the colony very well, in perfect English. For such a young man, he has our complete admiration for the work he does to support the community. Anyone who gets the opportunity should do this tour, particularly if you are fortunate enough to have Sunny as your guide. Thankyou for one of the best tours we have ever made!
What a wonderful morning! A great way to actually understand the political and social factors surrounding the slums. I really enjoyed my time and got to speak to many local people who gave me their insight on what life in the slum really is like. I left feels very humbled - I joined this tour for education and I can say that I really did learn a lot. Really worth the visit - very non-intrusive also. Lot's of respect for the volunteers and guides thar guve their time to help in these areas.
Such a unique and special experience. It was great spending the afternoon with Sunny. The visit to the volunteer led school they’d set up in the slum, and meeting the other volunteer teachers, was a particular highlight. Highly recommend this tour!
Our guide, Sunny, was so friendly and knowledgeable as he showed us around his own community and shared about his life living in the Sangam Colony. I was concerned our presence may be intrusive, but felt very welcomed by the residents and the children getting heaps of handshakes and smiles and felt very safe the entire time. An unforgettable experience for all the right reasons!
This was an absolute highlight of our 2 week Indian trip. We felt safe and comfortable and all the people and happy faces we met was such a joy. I loved the railway walk and the seeing the kids playing cricket on active tracks and the trains going past. Thoroughly recommend this tour and any opportunity to help these amazing humans who live in the communities.
A group of us just completed the small group Delhi slum walking tour and it was the most amazing experience. Our guide Sunny was delightful and knowledgeable being a local to the area, the people and especially the children within the community were so inviting and full of joy, it made the whole journey a memory we’ll never forget, thank you for such a wonderful time, thoroughly recommend it as a must do.
My partner and I went on this tour, to get a deeper understanding of what poverty looks and feels like. This tour allowed us to connect with people who are living a life so incredibly different from ours, and to learn from each other. The tour was pretty different from our expectations, since we were a little unsure at first what it would be like, in the end we were so glad we went. We met the kids that our tour guide, Sunny, tutors as a part of a separate NGO. They had 100 questions for us, about how we live, what inspires us and what education is like in the west. Even got us to dance with them. They were amazing! And Sunny was too. We also saw people using rubbish and cardboard to make recycled items, like pillows or decorations, which they sell at their local market. This tour really put things in perspective for us and gave us the opportunity to see a glimpse of how millions of people live each day. It was honestly the highlight of our trip to Delhi. I couldn't recommend it more.
It was so nice, like I saw how people in Slum are living and talked some kids. People are so kind and kids are energetic.A young guy who was guide was so kind and gave me much information about slum. I recommend it if you want to feel slum.
My friends from u.s who visited India recently invited me to join this tour as a local I didn’t knew that kind of tours existed but I joined sceptically but when I took the tour all my doubts got cleared n we had a great time while having the tour Thanks to our guide for the slum tour sunny n New Delhi food tour guide shiva Thanks for the great experience!
Absolutely do this. I spent three weeks in India and this was a highlight. Your western values may make you think this is the wrong thing to do. It is not! These tours are run by a non corrupt NGO in Delhi. They need your help and use these tours to educate and finance education for the young. Not just book learning and school like you imagine it but the dissemination of skills that you would take for granted or have no need for. The will take you to see the real deal. People with nothing. You should see it. These people will not resent you and they don't want your pity. They are proud and were just as interested in me as I was in them. Not that I am ignorant but I learned the true sense of karma during my few hours with these people. They are absolutely no different than you are I but are simply unfortunate. Learn from them and help them at the same time. I am a bit time traveler and this was one of the best experiences I have had ever.
We actually did three tours with PETE led ably by Bheem and assisted by his friend Ashwani: the Slum Walk, the Old Delhi tour, and an experience with locals for Holi. The Slum walk was interesting -- Bheem leads a personal and sincere tour through the slum. It was cool to go with a local on a tour of Old Delhi because they know all the best places to sample food, and the coolest lookouts. Our Holi experience was very cool -- authentic as we actually went to a local house and had a chance to "play Holi" from the rooftops. It was an authentic experience that one could not get any other way. Thank you Bheem and Ashwani!!!
We went on the tour today. What a fantastic experience. We were aware the tour wasn't in our natural environment, but with our guide we felt safe throughout the tour. We were able to get a rare glimpse into what seems to be inherently Indian, very rough and life affirming at the same time. Life isn't easy, but there's hope. Thanks for letting us experience this.
This experience is very rewarding, the guide who belongs to the slum community was fantastic, is very helpful
We visited slums that are not usually visited for sightseeing. The guide's explanation was easy to understand, and I was able to see people living well, which was a valuable experience.
I was in Slum Delhi thanks to a tour organized by Shiva. I was traveling alone with my son and we had an amazing experience, we were together with the children and we got to see their lives up close, exchange smiles and handshakes that will always remain in our hearts.
Thanks to Shiva we were able to get to know the non-tourist side of Delhi. This is definitely something to experience when you are in Delhi. Many people have a lot of joy and a big heart despite the poverty and unimaginable living conditions. We were even invited by a family for tea. This is incredible! If you want to see "something different reality", go for it 👉👍 Also, the money is used to finance many projects and you do something good with it.
Very educational and impressive trip through a slum. We had nice guides who told in peace about life in the slums
