Great evening out with Adi tasting the best street food in Old Delhi. He explained how your tastebuds work and how they change to perceive different levels of taste with each mouthful. Surprised just how many foods we tasted (all included) from curries through fresh fruit sandwiches (don’t judge until you try!) lassi and kulfi. All from places that have been around from many many years to many generations. Last visit was to the Spice Market which i found really interesting - didn’t realise there are different grades of spices. Thankfully rickshaw ride back to the hotel! No after issues either

Itinerary
Experience a complete culinary and cultural experience of India with our food tours, cooking classes, photo walks and various other fun things to do in Delhi
Chawri Bazaar is a very busy road as labourers with their laden backs, rickshaws, scooters and walkers almost battle for the passage during the peak market hours. There are 4-5 food shops here where we'll stop to sample local delicacies.
Khari Baoli is a street in Delhi, India known for its wholesale grocery and Asia's largest wholesale spice market selling a variety of spices, nuts, herbs and food products like rice and tea. We'll walk around this area and stop at 1-2 places for food.
The original Chandni Chowk, half-moon-shaped square, itself was located in front of the Municipal Townhall and its reflection use to shine in the moonlit water pool located in front of it. Now it's a bustling market area with markets for spectacles, shoes, bangles, wedding dresses and countless other items.
Old Delhi food walk is a perfect choice for tourists who wish to explore the street food culture, sights, people and market in shortest possible time. Some of the food dishes included in food walk are listed below, there can be a few more too depending upon time of the day and season.

Did an Old Delhi food tour with Aditya while in Delhi - highly recommend! We tried lots of different dishes and learned a ton about Indian food. Aditya was a great guide - very informative and professional. In fact, he was probably the best guide we had across 2 weeks in India. We were nervous about eating street food, but felt very safe on this tour and had no stomach issues. Highly recommend!
My husband and I booked this tour for New Year's Eve because it was the best day we could schedule it during our time in Delhi. We were the only ones on the tour this particular day and despite being NYE, Chef Aditya took his time with each of the stops, he explained each dish and the history behind them, and also gave us insight into Old Delhi. We are vegetarian and that was not a problem at all. We enjoyed everything we had and this was a great way to try dishes and vendors we would not have on our own. Highly recommend!
Did this food tour last Christmas and it was superb! A great way to try Indian street food and see Old Delhi, we were taken to the tour guides trusted vendors who prepared the food themselves. Particular favourite was the biscuits cooked over coals! I would highly recommend!
Spent an amazing day with Aditya wandering Old and New Delhi and sampling street food as we went. Having a knowledgeable guide is essential in Delhi and Aditya was great, taking us to places we would have had no chance of finding ourselves, negotiating with TukTuk drivers and giving us a history of the places we visited, some of which have been in the same family's hands for 140 years. Cannot recommend highly enough!
Excellent tour with incredible food and history. Our guide, Chef Aditya, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and he took us to several spots a tourist like me would never find (or be brave enough to visit). Took my 11YO daughter, and she loved it, too. And Aditya took special care of her along the way.
Had a fantastic time walking around Chandni Chowk with my guide, Aditya. I was the only one who booked this particular day so I got a wonderful private tour. All the food was delicious! I only had one free day on a weeklong business trip to India, and this was the only "non-work" activity that I had time for. I'm so glad that I prioritized this tour!
On my return trip from Sri Lanka back to the states I had a 13 hour layover in Delhi, which obviously meant I had to book one noteworthy tour that made the most of my $10 India visa…and this one exceeded expectations. Not only were the food selections delicious, varied, and representative of the cuisine, but they were also sourced from family institutions that were established around a century ago. The best part however was my guide, Chef Aditya Shahi—request him if you can. As a formerly trained chef, he knew every recipe down to each specific spice, and could predict what flavor I should expect in each bite. He guided me through the beauty of thali and appreciating the differences between eating foods individually and in concert. All the while, he was so personable and fun and made great company for a solo traveler like myself :) And most importantly…I was STUFFED, both in the tummy and with food knowledge by the time I made it back to the airport.
I had an amazing experience on our private food tour, especially with Chef Adi leading the way! His expertise added a unique depth to the tour, and his passion for food was infectious. We got to taste a wide variety of delicious dishes, each stop feeling like a culinary adventure. The pacing was perfect, allowing us to fully appreciate each dish without feeling rushed. Overall, it was a fantastic way to explore the local cuisine, and I can't wait to do it again!
I was very lucky to have Aditya Shahi as my guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and patient with all my questions. He is someone you could easily hang out all day with. He certainly helped to make this food tour a memorable experience. Highly recommend!
Highly recommend this food tour, exploring and tasting the street foods of Old Delhi. We tried a lot of different foods. It was all delicious and we were very full by the end.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our food tour with Chef Adi. He was very knowledgeable about the way that the various spices/flavors work together, and we learned so much about the food of Old Delhi. Both my wife (who is an amazing cook) and I (who can't cook to save my life) had a wonderful time, and we both agree that we hope all future food tours we take are similar to this one. 10/10, would definitely recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed the street food tour. We went to many different stalls and had a variety of food from light to heavy, sweet to spicy, and everything in between. Our guide, Dave, was a former chef, so his knowledge of food was extensive. He knew his way around old Delhi and knew the vendors who were making the food. A word of advice: Don't have breakfast or have a very light breakfast, before you go. There was so much to taste and the tastes were often snack sized, so we were stuffed. The driver was also professional and efficient. Our guide and driver worked as a team, so we weren't spending time waiting around. The price was more than we paid for some other tours, but it was worth it. The value was there due to the quality of the tour and the guide.
We did this tour on our last day in India and wish we had done it earlier because we learnt so much about Indian food and how to eat it . We had a knowledgeable chef with us that made all the difference. He guided us through the streets giving us history as we went from stop to stop. The variety of what we ate was amazing. Highly recommend . A must for food lovers
Thoroughly great experience! I would recommend this tour for anyone! We would do it again for sure! ❤️
We booked an old town food tour very last minute on our first day in Delhi. Adi was an excellent tour guide and reassuringly understood that although we were willing to be adventurous, we were also slightly anxious about deli belly. This was a great way to be introduced to a new city with such a strong culture. The food we ate was absolutely delicious and I would strongly recommend the tour. Thanks
A fantastic way to learn about the street food of Delhi and India from some of the oldest shops in the city. A great thing to do!
First we learnt how to cross the road like a Queen which was invaluable, then we were treated to a huge variety of foods and stories which was amazing! A fantastic walking tour!!
Honestly, one of the best tours we did in India and we didn't get sick. We did the private tour with a chef, he took us to all the hidden gems and we felt safe all the time. The guide was really flexible and he took us and left us from a road where we could take Uber. We only felt that the tour was too short (around 2h for us), we would have loved to see more.
The food tour was amazing!! It was great to learn about the spices and taste Street food safely !!! My favorite was trying the ice cream!!!
Chef Aditya was fantastic and showed us a wonderful time in Old Town Delhi. The experience gave us a real local feel and also opened our pallette to some wonderful flavors and new experiences. I highly recommend this tour!
I loved walking around Old Delhi with a chef. There were so many amazing, magical tasting experiences on the tour. My guide really opened my eyes to the wonder of Indian spices and the variety of flavors one can experience. I appreciated his knowledge of food/spices and his commentary on the history of Old Delhi. He took me to beloved and historical shops and cafes. Most had been in the family for generations. An all around exceptional afternoon
The perfect option for someone looking to experience the amazing street food in Delhi! Rajeev made things very easy every step of the way, teaching us how to safely navigate the hectic Delhi streets while giving detailed explanations of all the foods we tried. Rajeev was a wealth of knowledge with his impressive amount of experience, challenging us to taste foods in new ways to demonstrate how complex flavors appear with different combination of foods. Without Rajeev, it certainly would have been overwhelming and difficult to understand each food you sample. I couldn’t imagine sampling street food without a guide in Old Delhi to show us the ropes, everyone should do it. Can’t recommend this tour enough!!
Spending the day with Chef Raj was a delight. He’s not only knowledgeable, but kind and warm. My husband is the street food lover and I was timid/worried about getting sick. He reassured me he works with the venders on the importance of hygiene as well as sustainability and we feel great today. The tour provides hand wipes as well as hand sanitizer. Old Delhi is busy and Raj is well know by the locals. You can tell he cares about the history of the area as well as knowing the vendor’s history. His stories add so much value to your experience. We have traveled the world and he has been our favorite guide. The ice cream stop will be remembered for decades. Don’t be timid and fully embrace the experience!!! It was also fun to ride in a rickshaw with Raj directing the drivers so we knew we wouldn’t lose our way. Highly recommend spending the day in Old Delhi with Chef.
I learned so much about Indian food and food culture in such a delicious way! For a first time visitor to India this is a fascinating and safe introduction to street stall food. I highly recommend this tour and this company.
This food tour was and amazing experience for the senses and besides the delicious quisine you also get to see Old Delhi at a glance. We tasted only vegan food an there were plenty of options available and the Chef made sure there was no ghee or milk. Highly recommend.
Our guide, Aditya, was one of the best parts of this tour! A chef himself, rather than us scarfing down food, he helped us to eat bites mixed with other ingredients to get the full experience! It was fascinating to begin eating something that was initially sweet, but when paired with a bite of something else, was suddenly buttery and nutty. We felt at ease wandering through Delhi, as he pointed out old and interesting architecture, as well! He had a mask, and he provided us with a complimentary bag that had hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and a large bottle of water. This is a must do!
History, culture, education, taste… every moment of this tour exceeded all expectations and without question goes down as one of the top 10 cultural experiences of my life. My fiancé and I booked this tour last minute by DM’ing one of the owners on WhatsApp. He set us up with Aditya, a professional chef who speaks perfect English, who met us just outside of Old Delhi. I figured this would be a random sampling of various food carts but no, this was a masterclass in India’s culinary history and how the craft of creating various Indian staples has evolved. We learned how various curries affect the taste of various breads, how some ingredients provide taste immediately and others take a moment to kick in, and how so much of Indian cuisine evolved as a result of British rule and independence. I’m from America where street food equals good, but certainly not high quality fair. Not here. The food we sampled ranged from simple potatoes to next-level concoctions i didn’t know existed (fruit sandwiches… what?) The commonality though was it was all the highest quality. Everything was fresh and everything was clean which means: 1. It tasted amazing 2. Neither I nor my fiancé got sick. Aditya took us through back alleys that we would never have seen to observe flower markets, chili markets and rooftop views that were running amok with monkeys. We went on a rickshaw ride which was more exciting than any amusement park back in the States. I cannot talk this tour up enough. Book it and be wowed. It is the closest thing to Anthony Bourdains Parts Unknown. Oh, and re: COVID, our guide was double vaccinated, provided sanitary wipes and hand sanitizer at every stop. My fiancé, who is a super germaphobe, felt safe the whole time. Book it!!
Do not miss this one - really ! Absolutely fabulous tour expertly hosted by Adi who went out of his way to share his knowledge of the food and also Old Delhi. The food was delicious and memorable and although we were slightly worried about the dreaded Delhi Belly we need not have worried at all ! No tummy problems whatsoever. This was one of the highlights of our month in India. I would recommend it to everyone and you will be especially lucky if you get Adi as your guide.
This tour is not worth the money. Before booking I was reading the other reviews and saw that the tour owner wrote a response trashing the person who wrote a negative review... and I assume they’ll do the same to me. The guide gave us no information about old Delhi, culture, or anything really other than what flour the breads we were eating were made out of. For over $300 for a group of 4 I expected this to be a private tour. Alas, it was not, and the guide was always 15 feet ahead of us ignoring us and making us feel bad for wanting to stop and look at things or take pictures. I do a food tour in almost every city I visit and it’s always my favourite part, but this just left me feeling disappointed and ripped off. AVOID THIS TOUR!!!
Incredible tour plus extra insights into culture and history. Aditya, our guide, was the best!! Took excellent care of us and we had so much fun. By the way, the food was awesome! Tour is 4 hours, 14 dishes from 8 food joints. Old Delhi bazaars, Spice Market and Chandni Chowk must be experienced. You walk, ride and stuff yourselves. Skip breakfast.
Amazing tour of Old Delhi, Ash our guide was so informative about the food and so much more and very easy company. Go hungry or you will soon fill up. The flavours and street atmosphere give you such a snapshot of life in Old Delhi
Absolutely loved this food tour in Old Delhi. Chef Aditya and our other guide were terrific. The tour gave us the opportunity to (safely!) try so many foods that we had not tasted yet and the experience of navigating Old Delhi (especially on a Saturday) was thrilling (if not a tad insane!). I'd highly recommend this as a first day jet lag tour (who doesn't like to eat - even when sleepy) or a great way to end your visit to India. Bravo!
Initially we'd booked an evening tour however due to the protests we couldn't reach some of the locations. Pradeep still organised a few stops including a Sikh temple where they serve thousands of meals per day for free. We visited the large kitchen, helped make roti and served some meals; a very humbling experience. Kindly Pradeep rescheduled the rest of our tour for the next day at no extra cost. It was an amazing experience with our very knowledgeable guide tasting many dishes, drinks and sweets. We bought nuts and spices as well. A great introduction to Delhi and the fabulous food on offer.
We loved it even that we arrived from a long flight 3 hours before. It was a great start to our tour and highly recommended. Ash was brilliant and added more than just food information but history aspects also. It gives one confidence to try all types of food. Very well worth the money.
Our tour guide, Aditya Shahi, expertly shepherded my husband and I through the throngs of people in Old Delhi to experience a variety of foods and shops. We tasted so many delightful things from places we wouldn't have ordinarily considered or found, such as street vendors or hidden gems in courtyards, all the while learning interesting tidbits. Most of the tour was on foot though, which made it difficult at times to hear what our guide was saying. Still, we learned quite a lot and also got to ride on a bike rickshaw and visit the spice market. We did also happen to have an issue finding the meetup location, which was changed last minute, but the tour operator worked quickly and got Aditya to meet us nearby. Once we met up, we were given cloth travel bags that had a water bottle, sanitary wipes, and hand sanitizer, all of which was very thoughtful. The portions of the food samples from each stop ranged from a bite or two to a full meal. Needless to say, we were stuffed by the end. Here's a list of all the foods were able to sample: Dal Kachori, Matar kachori with Aloo Sabzi ( Potato Curry) Samosa with sweet tamarind dip and Savory Mint coriander green chilly dip Gulab Jamun Lassi Fresh Fruit Sandwich Chai (Tea) Dhokla (Gram Flour steamed cake) Aloo Chat Orange Kulle Chat Nankhatai (Shortbread) Stuffed Orange Kulfi Khan's special omlette Bhatura and Kulcha with chole(chickpeas) - Old style cooking Rasgulla Bhatura with Chole(chickpeas) - New style cooking Jalebi All in all, great tour - would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful time with Ash as he helped us to taste our way through the old Delhi markets. Great food and an excellent guide. Warning, come ready to eat a LOT of delicious food
We've seen and learned a lot about Old Delhi Food, but also about it's various sights. Definitely exceeded expectations. Very professional!
We did the half day Old Delhi food tour with Aditya Shahi and it was so good. We did not realise that our tongue had so many taste buds!! He had so much knowledge and information about local food (which was delicious). We would definitely recommend this amazing food tasting tour. We offered Aditya a tip but he refused which is unusual for India. He is obviously totally passionate about showing tourists the local cuisine. Would 100% recommend to anyone Chris and Sally
Could not Recommend "Food Tour in Delhi" enough. Ashwan is a genuine, down-to-earth guide with a wonderful sense of humour who's commitment to ensuring you have an enjoyable time is thorough. Efficient hotel transfers, a provided sling bag with sanitary wet wipes and hand sanitizer gel is nice - in fact all transport throughout the day was comfortable and safe and hygiene was outstanding at all visited establishments. Additionally, unlimited bottled water and accompanied access to western standard toilets is much appreciated. Many, if not all, establishments and vendors visited had long, multi-decade histories (some even longer!) in their craft. Ashwan is a wealth of information not only into the culinary history of different foods and vendors but also the regions of Delhi visited - highlights included a Old Delhi and the Tibetan Colony. Culinary highlights included: the greatest ice cream (Kulfi) set in pomegranate and mango fruit, incredible dosa, Tibetan Laping noodles. The absolute highlight of the tour, though, was a visit to Delhi's Sikh temple at sunset which was just magic. Ashwan guided us through the kitchen in which the Sikh cook and provide free meals to visitors - both the serenity and community of the temple along with the "behind the scenes" tour will never be forgotten. Thank you Ashwan (and team) for an amazing experience - an unforgettable culinary and cultural tour of a vibrant city dripping with charm.
We booked a food tour from U.K. via trailfinders &Shubi a young lady there was knowledgeable , fun and very passionate about her job . Amazing experience .
This walking tour, alongside the cooking class also organised by India Food Tour, was the highlights of our trip to India. Our guide Ashwani (Ash) was the perfect guide - he's friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he does. We probably have 10+ different snacks in various parts of Old Delhi. The tour is not just about food, we also learnt about history and how people have lived in this fascinating part of Delhi for thousands of years. The only thing I'd mention, not as a criticism of any sort to the tour but an observation of the area, is that Old Delhi is a very busy and lively market, so it's not the easiest for people with mobility issues or if you have very young children in prams etc. Otherwise, I'd recommend it to anyone who's visiting!
A fantastic tour with our guide Ashwani. Without a guide I would not have had any idea about which places would sell what and also which places were hygienic enough to not cause any problems! Whilst the food part was outstanding, the tour also included a cycle rickshaw ride and took us inside a flower market and up to the roof of an old colonial building for views over the mosque and a slice of life in Delhi. We went on a Sunday when part of the market is closed but it did not detract from the experience. I highly recommend this tour and will be sharing the details with our company (we were in Delhi for work) for colleagues travelling out in the coming months.
Literally cannot fault this tour. Our guide was Aditya and he was great. Informative and friendly and we always felt safe with him - we didn’t get anyone harrassing us at all. He took us to so many places and we tried over 20 food items which was fantastic. We wouldn’t have found everywhere without his expert knowledge. The food was all delicious and we did not have dodgy stomachs afterwards, which was a worry beforehand! Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to know more about traditional dishes. Thank you!
This tour is so excellent . It gives the taste of delhi at one go. Knowing about different taste and learning too is excellent
This was a fabulous tour and Ashwani (Ash) was a great guide. We ate food we would not have been brave enough to try on our own and it was all delicious and while we ate it we also got lots of cultural and historical information. Plenty of interest for parents and also 14yo and 20yo. Ash was our favourite tour guide on our short visit to India.
The private four hour tour with Ashwani was adventurous, inciteful, interesting and HOT (not the curry the weather)!!! I particularly enjoyed the flower and spice markets, felt really bad for the guy that peddled the rickshaw, was intrigued by the mish mash of architecture, and curious about how long it might be before modern technology destroys the genuine oldness of old delhi. The water, wet wipes, hand sanitiser and carry bag was a much appreciated welcome gift.
Food was amazing. Lots of great history from our guide. Walking through the streets of Old Delhi and weaving through the traffic via rikshaw bike to the spice market was lots of fun. Was nice to get away from the tourist hotspots and eat like the locals. A very memorable experience.
The tour with Raj was perfect: just the right duration, the key tidbits to understand what you were tasting, all useful information and no filler, amazing food and combinations -also, just the right amount, he won’t let you fill up before it’s time to do so- and most of all: great places that you’d never be able to find on your own (and even if you did, you’d have no idea what to order). Highly recommend this!!!
Shikha is particularly talented and interesting to draw attention to the subtle sensations of Indian street food during tastings, innumerable discoveries all divine, in the mad atmosphere of Chandni Chowk, to do absolutely !!
