Spent a wonderful day with Chef Aditya touring Old and New Delhi with amazing street food. By the end of the day we were stuffed beyond belief but it was worth it. So much care has gone in to finding great food stops that are also safe for tourist stomachs, we had no problems at all. We are always interested to try new food and learn about cuisines, and this tour delivered.... an education that will go to good use back home. I only wish we could have spread it out over a few days since I fear that after wonderful food item #10 or 15, we were past really appreciating each new delight. Kudos to Aditya and the FTD folks who put this tour together!

Brilliant. This tour was an excellent way to see and learn about Delhi while tasting a wide selection of delicious food, most of which I'd never tried before. Our guide Aditya was informative, funny and a delight to spend the day with. I'll admit I was nervous about the risk of stomach issues trying so many foods, but the only problem we hit was trying to pace ourselves and not get too full! We also did the Food Tour in Delhi Cooking Class with Chef - the combination was perfect and it's obvious how passionate Rajeev and Shikha are about sharing the many wonders of Indian food and culture.
Thanks to the Coronavirus, our flights home via China from South East Asia were cancelled. Therefore, we looked at an alternative route that didn't cost a fortune. The best price was via Delhi but we only had one day there (such a shame because we loved it!). Being great lovers of Indian food but never actually having been to India, there was only one thing that we wanted to do - as big a food tour as we could possibly manage! We did a lot of research because with a long flight the day after, we did not want to be hit with upset stomachs for the long journey so a very thorough search brought us to Food Tour In Delhi. The reviews were extremely positive and no-one had any issues so we contacted them hoping that they had last minute availability. They were extremely responsive and we had booked our full day food tour of Old Delhi and New Delhi very quickly. We also enquired about toilet availability as it was a very long day and we were quickly reassured that our guide would be able to assist in finding suitable conveniences at any time during our day out. When the day came we were really excited. We were told to stay in our hotel room so that the driver who collected us would be able to call our room and let us know that he was there. Being polite British people, we thought we would save him the trouble and wait in reception. Wrong! Because our driver was not the guide, he did not have a Food Tour In Delhi uniform and we missed each other in the Lobby. We would recommend that you do what the email instructions say and stay in your room until you get the call. Luckily, this didn't delay us too much and we were soon en-route to collect our guide, Aditya, close by. The car stayed with us the entire day and was ready for us whenever our guide called on it so we had almost no waiting time. We were the only two people on the tour. We were both given a bag with a bottle of water, hand sanitiser and tissues all of which were very welcome throughout the day. Extras to bring would be something to cover up for the temple visit and your passports for security at the Presidential Palace. Aditya was a very enthusiastic, confident and knowledgeable chap with outstanding English. Our driver expertly drove us through the Delhi traffic to Old Delhi where our tour was to start. Having arrived in India in the very early hours, by 11am we were thrust into the biggest culture shock we have ever experienced! We had been on a 7 week tour of South East Asia going to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. We had seen a lot of fantastic things and experienced very different cultures but absolutely NOTHING prepared us for Old Delhi - it was absolutely insane in the best way possible!!! It was a full-on brutal assault on every sense and we could not get the smiles off our faces! Aditya expertly and confidently guided us through the streets and all the way he was explaining the history of Delhi and telling us about Indian life. No question went unanswered and he was very frank and informative. Although the tour was about the food, we really felt like we had two tours in one because we got so much information about the city and the culture all the way through the day, it felt like a city tour too! We had over 20 dishes throughout the day in so many different and interesting places. Food Tour In Delhi had carefully selected the places that we ate for their quality, hygiene, being environmentally friendly and having an interesting story. We ate at places that were incredibly popular with locals and also that had been established for a very long time - generations of families had run them! I won't spoil the surprises by describing the food - rest assured that you will get the best introduction into Indian cuisine imaginable and even if you think you know Indian food, get ready for some amazingly pleasant surprises. We skipped breakfast and were still pushing ourselves by the end of the day - there is a huge amount of amazing food. I can't stress enough that to get the most out of this day, you need to go hungry and pace yourselves - you don't have to finish every dish and sometimes, we asked our guide to just get us one portion to share as were getting really full. Having said that, the best thing about the tour is that Aditya paced it perfectly with each area we ate at being interspersed with walks, a rickshaw ride, tuk-tuk ride and visits to places like the Spice Market and a huge Sikh Temple where the kitchens serve over 10,000 meals per day for free! It is timed to perfection to give you the best food experience and not just bombard you with dishes so you get too full in one particular area. I can only say, if you are in Delhi and you are interested in doing a food tour - book the full day Old Delhi and New Delhi food tour - your taste buds and other senses will thank you for it!!!
I did the all day food tour the day I arrived in India and there wouldn’t have been a better way to immerse myself in the culture and food. I’ve now been in India for more than a month and tried different lassis all over India and the best one was the first lassi I had on that tour. Taste sensation. Thanks so much Aditya.
I promise you, if you haven't done this tour, you haven't really experienced Delhi! It's been 6 years since my first food tour with Rajeev and his company, Food Tour in Delhi, and this time was just as exceptional and memorable, as the first. My mother (born and raised in New Delhi) and I had the pleasure of being hosted by Chef Rajeev's wife and company co-founder, Shikha. Shikha was not only a pleasure to spend much of our day with, but also a treasure trove of food and cultural knowledge. She did an amazing job of keeping our palettes stimulated and yearning for more. During the tour, we visited so many unique places, some of which even many Delhiites, have yet to discover. Shikha was also terrific at customizing on-the-fly and taking breaks, if we requested such. We visited so many wonderful nooks and crannies in Old Delhi, with each stop offering a tasty and delightful surprise, before moving on to some excellent spots in New Delhi. The tour is eat until you drop with unlimited amounts of food. Almost a month later and my mother is still talking about this tour! They do a great job of reminding you to control yourself so you make it to the end of the day before you throw in the towel. They also provided a great driver, who picked us up at our hotel, drove us around all day and then took us back home. All in all, the day made for an amazing food and cultural experience that has created lifelong memories. Having gone on dozens of food tours around the world, this is hands down my favorite!! Great job and THANK YOU to Shikha, Rajeev and the entire Food Tour in Delhi group! I can't wait to do it again soon.
A fantastic day spent trying a large variety of indian street food delights savoury and sweet. Starting in old Delhi exploring the tiny street allies to the main drag all the hassle and bustle you'd expect finishing in new delhi with a very full stomach.
We booked a 6 hour private food tour in Old & New Delhi and our guide, Ashwani (Ash), was the best! We had a great time as he introduced us to the food and sites of Delhi, and his interest in food & photography meshed perfectly with our own interests. He was a true delight as a guide!
I had an amazing time during my food tour with chef Aditya. I was picked up from my hotel in an air conditioned car, and we drove to Old Delhi. That's when I was presented with a drawstring backpack for hand sanitizer and tissues. Walking through Old Delhi we tried so many different foods; each place we visited had a special history. Aditya was so knowledgeable and was a wonderful guide; he explained each food down to the components, how to eat each thing, and what each taste was. Water was also given as well, so really you just needed to bring yourself as the tour provided water and hand sanitizer. In New Delhi, we went to India Gate, the President's House, Connaught Place, and the street markets. We also went through an underground Palika Bazaar, which if I knew about before I would definitely do my shopping here too. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting india! If you only had one day in Delhi, this tour would be great, as you try all the different foods, plus see the major sites.
I had the pleasure of spending a day with Chef Aditya, touring back alley ways and side streets in Delhi Old and New and discovering and tasting a couple dozen dishes along the way. Aditya is very knowledgeable and time passed by in a blur. Honestly there wasn't a single dish that wasn't good and in retrospect I only regret I didn't eat even more! Highly recommendable.
WOW! Our food tour with Ash is at the top of our experiences for our trip to India. We started in Old Delhi stopping at street food stalls and shops down alleyways that a tourist would never know to go down. The second half of the tour we traveled to New Delhi to continue tasting. We were so full of such good food and couldn't eat another bite at the end. We highly recommend this tour to get a taste of as many foods as possible in a safe way. The food wasn't the only highlight, as a our guide Ash was able to talk to us about the history and culture of Delhi.
I had a great time with Ashwani! Ashwani knew lots of information about the city, each restaurant that we stopped at and food. It truly felt like we were eating at the locals' hidden gems. The breaks between food stations were much appreciated. I don't think I finished my plate of food at any one place. I'm from California and eat a signifant amount of Indian food and still tried new things. I definitely recommend this tour. It was a wonderful way to experience Delhi!
My girlfriend and I did the Delhi food tour and tea tasting with pickup and drop off. Everything about this tour was amazing. I had to change my tour date because of flight issues and they made it nice and easy. I had to change the pickup address and that was easy too. They arranged the tour for a time that was perfect for us. The driver arrived early and came inside to find us. They gave us goody bags that had hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and water at the beginning of the tour. All of the food was amazing. I have done a lot of food tours in many different places, but this was the best one. It feels like you are with a friend that is showing you their best food spots. I would do this tour again if I end up in Delhi again and I have recommended it to anyone I know that wants to visit India.
I don't know about you, but I absolutely love food tours. I mean, what better way to get to know a new country than by spending some time experiencing a glimpse of what daily life is like? Sure, it's fun to hop on a tour bus and see museums and churches and temples and ruins, but what it's like to enjoy freshly-baked bread or a cup of tea with a friendly local who's happy to explain how they're made, where they're from, and why they're a part of their culture? In this case, pretty dang awesome. It's kind of difficult as an overseas visitor to know what exactly you're in for when you research and book a tour on the Internet. Here's what you should know before booking in with Food Tour In Delhi: First of all, what you're paying for is of course expert local knowledge. Yes, you could probably buy the food you'll be tasting for less money than the tour costs, but could you even find it in the first place? Nah, probably not -- and believe me, the fruit sandwiches or panipuri alone are worth it. Even more important: wouldn't you want to make sure you're only visiting places with first class standards of hygiene? That too is worth it: they've been running these tours for years and know where to go. They're great about providing you with a small carry-bag with bottled water, hand sanitizer, and serviettes, but even better at prompt, comfortable transport (which really makes the Delhi traffic more comfortable). Finally, the guide - I lucked out with Rajeev, who's personable and wildly knowledgeable - was just plain delightful. I was a little bit apprehensive at the idea of walking through the crowded streets of Old Delhi, but his friendly demeanor made it all feel just fine, and I wound up really enjoying the experience. Finally, I'll point out one stop of the tour in detail just to give you an idea: I'm something of a tea nerd -- well, at least in that I drink a lot of it at home, have read a number of books on the subject, and can even usually remember what things like FTGFOP stand for. So: we stopped in at a small tea shop in a British-era shopping arcade of sorts to taste a few different teas, and after the owner overheard me say something pretentious like "Oh, I like Ostfriesen blends because malty Assams can stand up to milk and sugar," he started talking about the teas he supplies to German companies... and then I realized, wait, this is not a tourist business, this is the real deal: you're at the source, now. The same goes for the food tour as a whole: it never felt like a cheesy for-the-tourists thing; instead, it felt like whoa, this tour guide is an actual chef. I mean, at one point I described an amuse bouche they served at Indian Accent and he said "oh, you mean this one?", whipped out his phone, and showed me a picture of it. "Yeah, they introduced that in their new menu last May and you're right, it really is delicious." If you want to spend time enjoying amazing food with one of the folks most qualified to share it with you, I can't recommend this tour highly enough.
I did the 6-hour Complete Delhi Food Tour during a long layover in New Delhi. It was one of the best food tours I’ve ever been on. We tried a variety of street foods in both Old and New Delhi, using rickshaws and a private car to get around. (I was able to leave my carry-on in the car which was a great help!) Shikha is a chef and a guide, and a very knowledgeable food historian. She started the tour with an eating exercise about how different combinations of the same foods activate the taste centers on the palate. It was super interesting and something I’d never done on a food tour before. As a solo traveler, I really appreciated that the tour ran with me as the only booking. I plan to travel through Delhi again and will absolutely rebook this tour!
My wife and I had a great time on this food tour. We booked for one date and then could not make it, but Jaidev was excellent in re-arranging the tour conveniently. When we did go, we had two excellent guides, Shikha and Ash, who customised the tour to our palates and favourite foods! I can still taste some of the amazing flavours from curries, snacks and desserts that are woven in with Indian history. I would recommend this as the number 1 thing to do when visiting Delhi!
This is a big tour with lots of stops and food to try. Don’t have breakfast! The time is Old Delhi was best: the intensity of traffic and people and noise was a great backdrop to the food. We were comfortable with the places re cleanliness and no after effects!. Tried lots of different sorts of chaats (street food snacks). Don’t finish everything!
A wonderful tour of Delhi seeing the way the locals do it. Lots of street foods we have never tried, very interesting and expert knowledge from our guide. Well worth doing this tour if you are there
My boyfriend and I did the Old Delhi and New Delhi full day food tour with Shikha. We had a wonderful day learning about different foods and their history. We tried a wide variety of foods and ate things that we wouldn't have tried otherwise! Shikha was very knowledgeable, lovely to talk to and adapted the tour to include a trip to the kitchens of a Sikh temple (when we needed a break from eating) which was truly eye-opening!! One of the best experiences we have had in India!! Thank you Shikha!!
What a fun day! I came to this tour with very high expectations due to the reviews, and my expectations were not only met but exceeded! First, our two guides were super fun, engaging and very enthusiastic. The tour is truly customizable and tailored for the group. Our guide, who is a chef, has huge knowledge about foods and great places to eat in Delhi, so she navigates the entire trip according to the preferences of the group (according to spiciness, hunger and so on). It was very interesting to learn how we taste food, we had a fascinating tea "class" and have seen how 20000 people are fed every day in the Sikh temple. We had about 10 stops where we could taste a large variety of excellent traditional foods and places that I could have never find on my own. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone who would like to spice up his/her Delhi experience!
We did this tour the first day of our trip and I couldn’t recommend it enough. They take you to places you would never ever dream of going and try the most amazing foods and some not so amazing but interesting. Well put together tour and very friendly staff. Highly recommend
This food tour was the best food tour because I'm not a very big foodie but this opened my taste buds and made me explore things I would never have had tried , great organising and great leaders thanks guys
