Gajendra was an amazing tour guide. His knowledge on the history and insight was brilliant. All the food stops were delicious. It’s a great way to explore Delhi and enjoy the street food! 10/10

Itinerary
The tour kicks off from outside Gate 1 of La Quila metro station in the heart of the city. Indulge in a bowl of soaked vadas covered in creamy yogurt and topped with pomegranate seeds, something you'll have never seen in any Indian takeaway back home. Your guide will explain local life and give you the lowdown on the foodie scene in Old Delhi. In quick succession, you'll grab a claypot of sweet frothy lasse, before working your way over the finest jalebi in North India.
As you let your food settle, you'll dive into an enormous Sikh temple to take a tour of their 24-hour kitchen which feeds over 30,000 Delhites from all walks of life every single day. Try your hand at chapattis and stirring enormous pots big enough to feed an army. Now it's time to jump into the maze of Old Delhi. Your guide will take you on a walking tour around the narrow streets carefully negotiating passing cows, cycle rickshaws and tiny vendors where you'll stop to try titbits like pani puris, tasty pakoras and stuffed parathas from a little place that's been churning them out for almost a century. If you travel in winter, you may even be able to have a taste of a Delhi specialty - a white mousse-like dish covered in saffron and nuts that's often described as being as fluffy as a cloud.
Your guide will lead you to a secret little restaurant that's got no sign outside, to try one of the best paneer masala curries in the city, before washing it down with a masala lime soda nearby. Continue weaving through the winding back alleys until you hit the fragrant spice market. After a walk and talk about the spices and herbs used in Indian cuisine, it's on to the final leg where you'll try several deserts including a carrot halva and a traditionally Mughal dish made from vermicelli noodles topped with a creamy nutty layer. As you head back, your guide will have a paan made for you - a betel leaf filled with dried fruits, syrups and other good things. An adventurous end to your foodie adventure in Delhi. Meet new-found friends and enjoy local hospitality, as we end the tour with a full-bellied rickshaw ride. You'll be armed with the street food knowledge to continue eating your way through India.

This was our fifth food tour with A Chef's Tour across Asia and this was definitely the best so far. Our guide, Gajendra, was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. Once again you get so much food and it is all delicious. It was very unique to also visit the Sikh temple and community kitchen. If you get a chance to book this tour, you are in for a treat.
We had a fantastic experience with our terrific guide Ranveer. We loved the fact that it wasn’t just about food but also we got great insights on history, local traditions and the people. Top experience, 100% recommended.
Amazing authentic tour of Delhi. We tried so many delicious things, but also saw several key cultural landmarks of Old Delhi. Ranveer was also super helpful and helped us navigate the metro at the end of the tour.
Excellent food tour! Great mix of tasty food and culture. Friendly informative tour guide. Felt like a real insight into real food going to venues that we wouldn’t have discovered or tried independently
Our guide Ranveer was on time and very experienced and very helpful. The food stops were very good and were carried out at a good pace. The food was exactly what we were hoping for, a unique experience. At the end of the tour he helped us get on the metro and to our destination, as the traffic was very busy. Which was above and beyond.
Excellent tour – highly recommend! Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and made the experience really enjoyable. The tour offered a great mix of delicious food and local culture. The food was fantastic, and we were taken to authentic local spots we would never have discovered on our own, giving us a real taste of the area. Go with a good appetite! There’s plenty of delicious food and drinks to enjoy. A brilliant experience from start to finish!
Great experience! Very pleased to have Ranveer looking after us in the crazy old delhi streets! Brilliant opportunity to try lots of different street foods and we felt very safe and well looked after.
This Food Tour is simply amazing! It is a great introduction to Indian food, and shows that it is much more then what you get in restaurants back home. Our guide Ranveer was very knowledgeable and patient, and would explain more than once every time we could not understand correctly the first time. We did request previously some dietary adjustments and Ranveer did follow everything very professionally. We had really a good time, and did enjoy it completely.
Gajendra was a fantastic guide, he walked us through the alleys of Old Delhi introducing us to many food vendors. There are so many delicious tastings in this tour you won’t need food for the rest of the day, definitely do not have breakfast before joining. Delhi can be very chaotic for first time visitors but Gajendra run everything so smoothly I didn’t even get overwhelmed. Good job!
Highly recommended. I ate my way around Old Delhi and had a fantastic time in the process. Guide Ranveer was calm, generous and knowledgable. You get to see (and eat) a little bit of everything on this tour, from a Sikh temple kitchen that feeds thousands to a spice market that fills the air with fragrance. It's all vegetarian food too, and all delicious.
Ranveer was very patient and eager to show me around old Delhi and the foods we would try. He explained well where we were at and how long the place has been there. Not just food but India in general he has good knowledge. From start to finish it was always a surprise being in Old Delhi.
We had such a fantastic food tour of Chandni Chowk with Gajendra! He was incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming, and made the whole experience so enjoyable. We got to try such a huge variety of delicious foods, from sweet treats to spicy and savoury. Gajendra was extremely knowledgeable and shared so much interesting information about Chandni Chowk, Delhi, and the history of the region. We loved wandering through the spice market but possibly the best part was rolling roti with the local women at the Sikh temple. We absolutely loved our experience and would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
I really enjoy this tour. I wouldn’t have been able to navigate Old Delhi by my own and identify delicious food famous among the locals. Gajendra is a super knowledgeable guide.
Booked this to give me the confidence to try some tasty street food delights in Delhi, and it really delivered! Our guide, Gajendra, was great and very knowledgeable, answering all our questions and herding us through the busy street. There was plenty of food to taste and always more for those with big appetites, water was provided throughout the 4 hours, everything was included. Highly recommend doing this at the start of your Delhi stay.
Our guide explained everything very well, and was able to answer any questions that we had. The market is amazing and the food was very good.
First off the positives- our guide was very friendly and we had a lot of fun on this tour . It’s a great way to see chandni Chowk as it can be quite intimidating to explore on your own. Unfortunately I have to say that our party did get the gi bug the day afterwards. Also we ended up at someone’s house to ‘look’ at Kashmiri scarves . They were very kind people but this did take up 1 hour to 1.5 hour of our tour and our tour that started at 10:30 am did not end until 3-330 pm due to this side tour
We had a great tour with Gajendra. He was extremely knowledgeable, and all the food we tried was delicious. It was a very chaotic area of Delhi but Gajendra navigated it with ease and made us feel safe. It was a brilliant experience and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to explore Chandni Chowk and try some excellent street food!
An incredible 5-star experience! Exploring Chandni Chowk with Gajendra made sampling all the famous street foods stress-free and exciting. Every single tasting out of the 15+ stops was fantastic, and Gajendra's local insight made it a wonderful cultural experience for our whole family. Highly recommend requesting Gajendra to any food lover visiting Delhi!
Best tour in Delhi. Gajendra was amazing. He was very thorough with explaining the details of what we were doing the history and exactly what food we were having and how it was made. We could not have asked for a better food and tour experience. We had a great time.
Gajendra is an amazing guide during a very tasty and impressive tour. What an amount of different tastes you have in India.
It was amazing we could never get this expérience by ourself.
We thoroughly enjoyed our food tour through Chandni Chowk with Ranveer. He was an excellent guide who made us feel very comfortable with what we were eating and left us with the confidence to try more! He spoke excellent English and was always offering more food if we wanted it. Chandni Chowk can be an overwhelming place but if you treat this tour as your introduction you won’t have any problems visiting again in future. The booking process was simple and the communication before the tour made it easy to find the meeting point. I would highly recommend this tour.
Had a great tour of Old Dehli's food with our guide. Our small group felt safe and well taken care of with an abundance of food from many different vendors. The temple visit was also lovely to have.
We absolutely loved the food tour! Gajendra is an amazing guide; very friendly, interesting and qualified. The food was great, as well as the variety of stalls and restaurants we visited. We also didn't get sick from the street food haha. Would definitely recommend!
Such an amazing experience! Our guide Gajendra was excellent and showed us to many local street food spots. He provided knowledge of many topics related to both Delhi and Indian culture as a whole. We visited a local Sikh temple which was great to see. The food tasted delicious and was hygienic. Highly highly recommend
Such an amazing experience! Our guide Gajendra was excellent and showed us to many local street food spots. The food tasted delicious. Highly highly recommend!
One of the best visit to try a variety of food options.
Ranveer was the perfect guide. The tastings were great and perfect to share as to not fill up too quickly. He always made sure that we were all together at turns through the market and let us take as many photos as we wish. He also supplied us with water at the beginning which was very much appreciated. He explained each tasting and always asked if we wanted more (which I think we would’ve exploded if we took him up on that). All in all the tour was about 4 hours and I liked that some of the tastings were drinks. You won’t be disappointed in the Delhi food tour at all.
This was a fantastic introduction to the street food of Dehli and to the bustling street of Chandi Chowk. Our guide Ranveer was very knowledgeable & friendly. The food was phenomenal & very authentic. No Dehli belly for us. Highly recommend!
We did the Chef's Tour with Ranveer and it's one of the best things we did in Delhi! My husband and I happened to be the only ones on the tour, so that was nice. The organization was good, they sent email reminders, and Ranveer Whatsapped me on the day with where to meet, and he was on-time and friendly. The whole tour was about 3.5 hours, but we did stop for rain a few times so might usually be shorter. We ventured to places we would NOT have gone by ourselves, as although we toured most of New Delhi by ourselves, we were a bit intimidated by Old Delhi, and in fact most of our Old Delhi experience was from this 1 tour. We visited many different food locations on foot, and finished with a rickshaw ride back to the starting point. Don't fill up too much on the first foods, as there are a lot! We had no stomach problems afterwards, we did make sure to sanitize our hands a lot just in case, but all the food was good quality. All the foods were included in the price so no other costs on the day (except a tip to the guide). We loved visiting the temples, and I got to try making a few rotis at one. It gave us the confidence to visit a couple of other temples in the area as we knew a bit more of what to expect. Also loved the spice markets, and some of the beautiful old doorways Ranveer took us past. We also stopped at a couple of shops, there was no hard sell although I expect they get a commission, we did buy some tea and spices from a shop, but we got in trouble at customs re-entering the US, so be aware that tea and spices might not make it home with you if you get checked! It unfortunately rained heavily during our tour, but Ranveer was really good at judging whether to stop hide from the rain for a bit, or press on when it got less heavy, and checked with us frequently to make sure were happy. Definitely wear closed shoes that you don't mind getting dirty, especially if it's raining, as there were open drains etc. Overall I'm very glad we did this tour, and would recommend it to everyone!
We had a great time in our food tour led by Sanveer. His knowledge and expertise of the area made our day! We got to try plenty of local Indian snacks and meals. All delicious! Would definitely recommend anyone visiting Dehli
This was the perfect way to enjoy a visit to the Chandni Chowk market in Old Delhi as a solo female traveler. I felt completely safe and though it is a busy, intimidating place, I still got to let my guard down and enjoy the hustle and bustle fully. All while trying some of the best street food in this area! Our guide Ranveer was super knowledgeable and shared information about so much more than just the food. From history to modern day religions, he was great! This was my second tour with A Chef's Tour, after an unforgettable one in Bangkok, and I would definitely book with them again in one of their many other locations.
Great tour. More than just a food tour, you learn about the history, get into the busy streets of Chandni Chowk, spice market and get to experience the Gurudwara. Thanks to Praveen for leading the tour and not loosing me Also, showing me the right / safe places to have street food. If doing this tour be ready to walk and use all your senses. Prepare yourself for densely crowded streets and go hungry.
Loved this food tour! We were back and forth between deciding which one we should do. Our tour guide, GS, was awesome. He found us at the beginning of the trip when we weee a little lost, told us so much about the culture and life in India, and kept track of everyone while navigating the busy street. He was also accommodating to my gluten free allergy and knowledgeable of what was ok to eat. Highly recommend! We tried SO many different, new foods.
The food tour in Delhi was great! We arrived at the meeting point and the guide was ready and waiting. It was good value for money and our guide Ranveer was very kind and helpful. The tour lasted for around 4 hours, and it didn’t feel rushed or that we did too much. As well as the food, we also enjoyed visiting the temple and the overall atmosphere was great! We are a family of four and we were joined by a couple from another country and a man who arrived later. The smaller group meant that we didn’t feel overwhelmed or ignored. The food was also very tasty! Overall, this food tour was excellent and we would highly recommend. Title: Great value for money and excellent tour! Photos: no photos
The food tour in Old Delhi with Praveen was truly a highlight of my trip. He took me to places I would have never found on my own. The food was incredible and diverse, from street food to local specialties, and everything was explained along the way. I also really enjoyed learning more about the culture and history of the area. Praveen is friendly, enthusiastic, and makes you feel comfortable right away. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience Delhi in an authentic way!
This is a wonderful tour with plenty of opportunity for tasting at renowned shops and stalls in Chandi Chok. It was the highlight of my stay in Delhi. Highly recommend instead of just wandering Chandi Chok. Our guide Ranveer was super. Everyone thought it excellent value for money.
Excellent and well paced tour with adequate stops, water and food. The background history was very helpful.
Don’t have breakfast as you will be too full before the halfway point. There are so many things to sample. Guide was great. And a lot of the shops visited have been around for years. You would have walked past them if you were on your own. Great value for money.
Ranveer a really good guide, tasted some great food. Sikh temple kitchen a highlight
We loved this food tour. Our guide, Praveen, was great and the food was tasty, interesting and pretty varied. I thought the organization was very good and the cultural side was as good as the food. Highly recommended.
Praveen was a great guide, knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was great and so were the food spots. So much food!
Great food tour, highly recommend!
First off let me begin with this: for any westerner wondering if the food is safe, it is! It is being carefully selected for this tour from trusted vendors who are established and have lots of roll-over so the food is always fresh. Second important statement: do not eat before going into the tour! We didn’t eat prior and we were still full halfway and everything is so good that you must try everything. Finally, our guide Ranveer was really great. He was very interesting, brought lots of great facts about the market, the vendors and the history and cultural importance of the food selected. He also kindly waited with us for our guide to arrive for our next tour. Really great service. For anyone wanting to immerrse themselves into real old delhi and eat all sorts of local food, this is the tour to select. 10/10, would do it again tomorrow!
We had an incredible food tour experience in Delhi, and Ranveer was such a fantastic guide. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and shared so much insight into the local food spots and the history behind the dishes we tried. It wasn’t just about eating, it was about understanding the culture and stories behind the food. A real highlight was visiting the Sikh temple, which was an extraordinary and humbling experience. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to see and learn so much in one tour. Highly recommend!
Worth the hype and not a joke about how much food it is. Actually a can’t miss. You’ll find cheaper tours and food tours - I’ve taken them - and they’re not nearly as good. Those will give you a speed run of street snacks and dismiss you as quickly as possible. This is real food and real visits and context on where you are and the cultural history and diversity in the area. Ranveer is also great and was happy to accommodate changes, things we’re interested in, things we’re not, making sure none of us were lost in the crowds and that we were comfortable at all times.
This was the best thing we did whilst in Delhi. Ranveer was a fun and informative guide and the food was unbelievably delicious. We were relieved to not have to navigate Chandni Chowk by ourselves and we felt as though we got an authentic experience of the place. We cannot recommend this enough.
Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi is a vibrant, chaotic, and historic shopping hub with a roughly 4.0/5 star rating, praised for its incredible street food, bargain shopping (clothing, spices, jewelry), and Metro accessibility. While highly popular for its cultural charm, visitors often describe it as extremely crowded and overwhelming.
Ranveer is an amazing guide, we saw so much, learned a lot and had the most amazing food. Also I am happy to say that my belly is totally fine, even though it was my first day in India - so the places chosen were great!
