Disappointing service for our honeymoon—not up to standard for a luxury hotel. We booked the ION Adventure Hotel for our honeymoon hoping for a special stay, but unfortunately, the customer service and basic organization fell far short of expectations. A few main issues stood out during our stay: Inattentive Service: Lunch and dinner were consistently frustrating—we waited over an hour for our food every single meal. It was also hard not to notice the clear difference in attention; guests dressed up in blazers and formal wear received constant check-ins from the servers, while our table was largely ignored and we were in wool sweaters and leggings. Dropped Orders: We ordered room service to the Lava Spa that simply never arrived, and no welcome drinks or standard hospitality touches were offered. Front Desk & Loyalty Issues: At check-in, we specifically asked to have our Marriott account linked to the reservation. The front desk confirmed they did it, but when we went back before checking out, we found out it was never added. Management’s response was just that there was nothing they could do to fix it. We called Chase and they also said to go back to the front desk with no resolution. As a high-tier Marriott member, I’ve honestly received far better service and care at standard Courtyard properties. For the price point and location, the property severely lacks basic amenities and the level of service you'd expect. Please reconsider if you are looking to stay here as you will be severely underwhelmed and not feel welcomed by any of the staff.

Great views and architecture, but wasted potential. It is priced at luxury range, so I expected it to be luxurious, but my experience prices was far from it. The pros: - amazing camp views - nice welcome with sparkling wine and friendly staff - hot pool outside also with views The cons: - dirty room. Coffee machine had water on it, wasn't properly cleaned. We even found a bra from another guest in our room floor. - pool is way too shallow, only 60cm. And glass surround it was completely dirty and blocking the view. - bar also had potential. We went to it to have a drink at 19:30 before dinner, but it didn't have any staff there, which is ok since they left a massage explaining that the staff was at the restaurant and if a drink was needed, we should call the restaurant. We called and ordered a glass of house wine. It never came. At 20:30 we left to our dinner. I also want to point out there where some dirt glasses there, the lounge music stopped playing while we were there, and the candles were not lit. In sum, the place was dead and abandoned. - the restaurant: I discovered the reason my wine never came: they were fighting for their lives while trying to serve all the tables. There were only 4 people to serve several tables and the bar. They were understaffed even though they were still nice and efficient considering the circumstances. It's a shame really. I CANNOT recomend this hotel.
We stayed at the ION Adventure Hotel our last night in Iceland and it was the perfect end to our week of travel. Our day leading up to our stay at ION was extremely chaotic and tiring. We got a flat tire on a gravel road and still had around 5 hours of driving to do that day, which turned into 6 due to an hour backup of standstill traffic at a bridge under construction. We had originally planned on an 8pm dinner reservation at Silfra, that we pushed to 9pm due to the flat tire, and then were going to have to cancel due to the bridge traffic, but the ION staff were incredibly caring and accommodating and said that we could order ahead and they would keep our meal warm until our arrival. We didn't end up making it to the hotel until 10:30pm, when we were greeted with complimentary glasses of sparkling wine. The receptionist was aware that we had ordered food and directed us to the restaurant where the staff were amazing and so kind to us after our long day. They had us put our bags in our room and brought us our dinner and a surprise dessert to the Northern Lights bar, where we were able to enjoy a delicious meal and drinks in a calm and scenic setting. Our room was perfect, with a great view and comfy bed that provided much needed rest. ION was also the perfect base for our tour of the Golden Circle before heading to the airport for our flight in the evening, and the ION breakfast that morning was a tasty start that fuelled our day. Overall, ION was an 11/10, with unparalleled service that we are so grateful for.
Really gorgeous hotel. Some other reviews mention the power plant nearby, it was absolutely not an issue during our stay. Our room was beautiful with a stunning view, the pool is super nice, and the breakfast is delicious. Highly recommend.
INCREDIBLE experience at the Ion Adventure hotel! This is one of my favourite hotels I’ve stayed at all over the world, and I am a fussy guest with high expectations. The location is remote, however we had no issues driving from Reykjavik, in fact we loved the drive - this is obviously weather dependent and you should check the road status before. The hotel is next to a geothermal power plant which we found unique and interesting. For those that didn’t look at the hotel’s history, it is a converted power plant staff accommodation site. The location is so quiet and relaxing, the staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. Food is AMAZING - yes it’s expensive but it’s expensive everywhere in Iceland and this is even more remote. Being vegetarian made it slightly limited over a 3 day stay but the cauliflower was really good. The overall vibe is gorgeous and we loved the Scandi design and especially the hot geothermal swimming pool and sauna! You cannot beat the views and we saw the Northern Lights both nights from the car park. Unfortunately due to a storm we had to cut our trip a night short - the front desk staff were so helpful and even transferred our booking to the Ion City hotel in Reykjavik so we didn’t need to book another new place and be out of pocket! I can’t wait to return one day, such a special place.
