My husband and I have recently completed an amazing 10 day tour of Sri Lanka with our wonderful tour guide Kanishka. From the moment of our arrival ( in the middle of the night) he was always professionally presented, very punctual, friendly and helpful with all the details of our day to day itinerary. Kanishka was also very accommodating and happy to adjust the options within our itinerary to suit our requests. He considered our age and ensuring the activities were enjoyable, comfortable and manageable at our pace while exploring everything we wanted to include on our tour. Throughout our holiday he shared information, commentary and recommendations that showed excellent local knowledge, this helped with our understanding and enjoyment of the local people, food and culture, and the places we explored. We would highly recommend Kanishka to anyone looking for a friendly, knowledgeable and experienced certified government guide in Sri Lanka for their holiday.

The Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is one of Sri Lanka’s most important and well-preserved religious sites. Located in central Sri Lanka, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its complex of five caves carved into a massive rock. Inside the caves are over 150 statues of Gautama Buddha, along with statues of kings and gods. The cave walls and ceilings are covered with vibrant murals that depict scenes from Buddha’s life and Sri Lankan history. The temple dates back to around the 1st century BCE and has been a place of worship for more than 2,000 years, making it a significant cultural and spiritual landmark in Sri Lanka.
The Minneriya National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s best wildlife destinations, famous for its large gatherings of elephants. Located near the ancient Minneriya Tank, the park is home to elephants, deer, monkeys, and many bird species. Its biggest highlight is the annual “Gathering,” where hundreds of elephants come together around the reservoir during the dry season, creating a spectacular sight. Visitors can explore the park on jeep safaris and enjoy close encounters with wildlife in their natural habitat. Minneriya is a must-visit for nature lovers and anyone looking to experience Sri Lanka’s rich wildlife.
Day 2
2
Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress in Sri Lanka, famous for its towering rock, ancient ruins, and colorful frescoes. Built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major historical attraction.
The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. Located in the heart of Kandy, it is believed to house the holy tooth relic of Lord Buddha, making it an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists around the world. Built during the Kandyan Kingdom, the temple has a rich history closely tied to Sri Lanka’s monarchy and religion. Its architecture features traditional Kandyan design, with golden roofs, carved woodwork, and beautifully decorated halls. The temple complex includes daily prayer rituals, offering ceremonies, and the famous “Thevava” (ritual worship), which visitors can observe. It is also the centerpiece of the grand annual Esala Perahera festival, where the relic is paraded through the streets in a spectacular procession of dancers, drummers, and decorated elephants. Today, the Temple of the Tooth is not only a spiritual site but also a symbol of Sri Lanka’s cultural identity and heritage.
Day 3
3
The Ramboda Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka, located in the cool highlands along the A5 highway near Nuwara Eliya. It cascades down rocky cliffs surrounded by lush green tea plantations and misty mountains. Standing about 109 meters (358 feet) tall, Ramboda is made up of several tiers, creating a stunning view especially during the rainy season when the water flow is strongest. The area around the falls is peaceful and scenic, making it a popular stop for travelers. Visitors can enjoy viewpoints, short nature walks, and nearby hotels that offer panoramic views of the waterfall. It’s a perfect spot for photography and a refreshing break during a hill-country journey.
The Nuwara Eliya Tea Plantations are part of Sri Lanka’s famous “Ceylon Tea” country, located in the cool, misty hill region. This area is known for its endless green tea fields, rolling hills, and colonial-era tea estates. Tea was introduced during the British colonial period, and today Sri Lanka is one of the world’s top tea producers. Visitors can walk through the plantations, see tea pluckers at work, and visit tea factories to learn how fresh leaves are processed into the famous Ceylon tea. The scenic landscape, cool climate, and fresh mountain air make Nuwara Eliya tea country a peaceful and refreshing destination, perfect for nature lovers and cultural travelers.
The Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful hill station in Sri Lanka, often called “Little England” because of its cool climate and colonial-style architecture. Located in the central highlands, it sits among misty mountains, waterfalls, and lush green tea plantations. Built during the British colonial era, the town still features old bungalows, horse racing tracks, gardens, and well-kept parks. The famous Victoria Park and Gregory Lake are popular spots for relaxing walks and boat rides. Nuwara Eliya is also a key tea-growing region, surrounded by scenic estates producing world-famous Ceylon tea. The weather is cool year-round, making it a refreshing escape from the tropical heat of the rest of the country. It’s a perfect destination for nature lovers, honeymooners, and anyone seeking peaceful mountain scenery in Sri Lanka.
Day 4

The Ella Railway Line train ride is one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. It runs through Sri Lanka’s central highlands, passing misty mountains, tea plantations, waterfalls, and small rural villages. The most famous stretch is between Nuwara Eliya (Nanu Oya station) and Ella, where the train slowly winds through lush green hills and crosses iconic bridges like the Nine Arches Bridge near Ella. Travelers often open the train doors or lean out of windows to enjoy the breathtaking views, making it a favorite experience for backpackers and photographers. The journey is relaxed, affordable, and full of unforgettable scenery. The Ella train ride is not just transportation—it’s a highlight of any Sri Lankan adventure.
The Nine Arches Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in Sri Lanka’s hill country. Built during the British colonial era, this impressive railway bridge is made entirely of stone and cement, without any steel, and stands about 30 meters high amidst dense jungle and tea plantations. Located between Ella and Demodara, the bridge is famous for its elegant curved design and the scenic surroundings. It is especially popular when a train slowly crosses over it, creating a perfect postcard view for visitors and photographers. Surrounded by greenery and walking trails, the Nine Arches Bridge is a must-visit spot in Ella for its history, architecture, and breathtaking natural beauty.
The Little Adam’s Peak is a popular hiking spot in Sri Lanka’s hill country, located near the town of Ella. It is named after the sacred Adam’s Peak because of its similar shape, but it is much easier to climb. The hike is relatively short and beginner-friendly, taking about 30–45 minutes through tea plantations, small villages, and scenic paths. Along the way, visitors enjoy fresh mountain air and beautiful green landscapes. From the summit, you get stunning panoramic views of Ella Gap, surrounding hills, and valleys—especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset. It’s one of the best easy hikes in Sri Lanka and a must-do activity for travelers staying in Ella.
Day 5
5
The Ravana Falls is one of the widest and most famous waterfalls in Sri Lanka, located just outside Ella along the main road. The waterfall cascades down multiple rocky tiers, especially powerful during the rainy season when the water flow is at its peak. Surrounded by lush greenery and hills, it creates a beautiful and refreshing natural setting. Ravana Falls is also linked to the легенда of King Ravana from the Ramayana, who is said to have hidden Princess Sita in nearby caves. Today, it’s a popular stop for travelers to relax, take photos, and enjoy the cool mist of the falls. It’s an easy-to-access and must-visit attraction when exploring Ella and the surrounding hill country.
The Buduruwagala Temple is an ancient Buddhist site famous for its impressive rock carvings. The name “Buduruwagala” means “rock of Buddhist sculptures,” and the site dates back to around the 9th–10th century. Its main attraction is a group of seven large statues carved into a rock face, including a towering standing Buddha figure about 15 meters (50 feet) tall—the tallest ancient Buddha statue on the island. The surrounding figures are believed to represent Bodhisattvas and other deities, possibly influenced by Mahayana Buddhism. Set in a quiet forested area, the temple has a peaceful and mystical atmosphere. A unique feature is a small carved figure that is said to have an oil-like substance seeping from it, which locals consider sacred. Buduruwagala is a hidden cultural gem, perfect for those interested in history, archaeology, and spiritual heritage away from the usual tourist crowds.
The Yala National Park is the most famous wildlife reserve in Sri Lanka, known for its rich biodiversity and thrilling safari experiences. Located in the southeast of the island, it features a mix of जंगल, grasslands, lagoons, and coastal areas. Yala is especially renowned for having one of the highest densities of leopards in the world, making it one of the best places to spot these elusive big cats. The park is also home to elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, deer, and a wide variety of bird species. Visitors explore the park through guided jeep safaris, usually in the early morning or late afternoon when animals are most active. Each safari offers a unique chance to see wildlife in their natural habitat. Yala National Park is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers looking to experience Sri Lanka’s wild side.

The hill offers stunning ocean views, especially during sunrise and sunset, when the sky turns vibrant shades of orange and pink. Its unique setting—palm trees lined up against the blue sea—makes it a favorite location for photography and relaxation. Located close to Mirissa Beach, Coconut Tree Hill is easy to reach with a short walk. It’s a peaceful place to enjoy sea breezes, take photos, and experience the tropical beauty of Sri Lanka.

Kanishka was an informative tour guide for me and my friend travelling on a 5 day tour around beautiful gem of an island, Sri Lanka. He was flexible with our travel itinerary which we had planned beforehand and was extremely adaptable to our plans on the go. He was also punctual, often arriving before our agreed time. He was a very safe driver and we appreciated his meticulous driving throughout the country, including the hill country, where we didn't vomit once (we're both prone to motion sickness). If you are looking for an informative, flexible and safe tour guide in Sri Lanka, Kanishka can certainly be recommended!
We have just completed an 8 day guided tour with Kanishka, our Government certified tourist guide. As both our driver and guide Kanisha proved exemplary. He communicated plans clearly, was punctual, respectful and demonstrated great humour, as well as proving to be a calm hand at the wheel. He remained flexible and adaptable responding to our changing plans; if an excursion didn’t fit our preferences he supported our needs by making suggestions for alternative activities not already on the itinerary. He proved indefatigable in accommodating our last minute requests to sample local foods or stop at businesses on route. We had a fabulous time exploring the sites on the tour. Kanishka was passionate about sharing the history and culture of Sri Lanka throughout and provided insight into the significance of all the sites visited. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We were able to tick off some real bucket list items on this trip, including seeing elephants in the wild, taking in the lush vistas of Sigiriya, sipping masala chai on an imperial railway travelling through the historic Ceylon tea plantations, seeing 5 leopards in a single day!!, as well as having our paths crossed by a 2m long cobra (luckily whilst still in our jeep on safari). Kanishka handled the organisation throughout with aplomb, leaving us to deal with the arduous task of relaxing. His ability to understand my quick-fire, accented English deserves its own mention. I cannot recommend Sri Lanka, its people or our guide enough. If you choose to visit you won't be disappointed.
Our tour guide for an 8 day trip visiting Sri Lanka, Kanishka, made our trip a wonderfully memorable experience. Some of the excellent qualities that Kanishka brought to our experience in Sri Lanka were as follows: 1. Safe driver, so we never felt uncomfortable even on switchbacks and narrow roads 2. Organized and extremely punctual 3. Flexible schedule and plan to customize our events and visit to our taste versus a one size fits all 4. Helpful, pleasant demeanor 5. Knowledgeable about Sri Lankan history and traditions, food, and even about the wildlife on safaris 6. Proud of Sri Lankan heritage and happy to share information 7. Good command of English language If we decide to take another tour in Sri Lanka, we will for surely book it with Kanishka if he is available.
Our 8 day/ 7 night tour in Sri Lanka was everything we hoped for. Our driver, tour guide Kanishka was so kind, prompt, knowledgable and considerate. We loved that our driver took pictures of the two of us along the way, something we don’t normally get as we travel. He freely shared his knowledge of history, culture, and answered our many questions. The car was always clean, he checked the rooms as we checked in to make sure all was good. Our guide got us to sunrise at Sigirya Rock, sunset at Little Adam’ Peak. He arrange an excellent Jeep driver for our early morning Yala NP Safari where we were fortunate to get some great views of ‘Lucas’ the largest Leopard in Yala’s Block 1. He arranged for FRONT ROW seats to a beautiful Cultural show in Kandy. He made sure we got onto and off the train near Nuwara Eliya to Ella. As we were leaving after watching the train pass over the 9 Arches Bridge I over heard a young woman who was just arriving say to her partner “I am so disappointed that we missed the train. This was an expensive part of the trip.” We are so happy to have had Kanishka take care of all the details so that we did not miss any magical moments.
We had the pleasure of having Kanishka as our guide and driver during our trip through Sri Lanka. He is a super relaxed driver and has a brought knowledge of Sri Lanka and it's history. We can highly recommend Kanishka if you are looking for a trustworthy, gentle and knowledgeable guide whose english is very good.
We had a wonderful week long tour with Kanishka around Sri Lanka. We visited Yale, Udawalawa, Ella, Kandy, and Sirgiriya. He is professional, knowledgeable, very patient, willing to get up at 4:30am multiple times to see the sunrise and be the first ones in the Safari parks. We was also willing to hike up to different places to show us around, tell us about the history, and take pictures of us, which I haven't seen of many guides locally or internationally. He also took us to a few secret spots that were not part of the original itinerary which were super cool! Definitely in the top percentile of guides I've had and I've had many. In addition, he is a very safe driver and the vehicle he drove was very spacious and comfortable.
This magnificent island of Sri Lanka did not disappoint as our wonderful driver, Kanishka drove us from one spectacular location to the next in his spotlessly clean, air conditioned car. Around every corner was a new surprise awaiting us. Historic places, endless colour and friendly faces. SL is amazing in every aspect. Magnificent food, fabulous places and beautiful people. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone as it was a fabulous week with endless memories with our spectacular tour guide.
