We had a very nice tour of Nara with our guide, Takashi. He did a great job of communicating with me before the tour by giving very detailed information of where to meet and details of the itinerary. I was confused by the additional cost section and even asked about it. I thought the price included transportation (bus) and entrance into the shrines like our other tours. But it didn't. The cost was not bad, but was just surprised. I may have needed to read the details better. Overall we had a very good tour!

Takashi was fantastic! He got here early, was incredibly knowledgeable, and super friendly. He showed us around and answered all our questions, making the trip absolutely delightful. Thanks to his expertise, it was a truly wonderful experience.
Our guide, Mrr. Takashi Okanuma, was one of the best guides in all of our Viator experiences. Since retirement., We've taken dozens of tours and he stands out. A wealth of information, super prepared and a gentleman always concerned about giving us the best experience possible. He gave us insight about Japanese culture we didn't have before our tour. Our Nara day was epic and we enjoyed it all thanks to our guide and all the beautiful place thatf Nara has to offer. Just book this tour and you'll be happy you decided to do so. 100 percent recommended. If you are fortunate enough to have Mr Takashi Okanuma as your guide, you will be further blessed with a beautiful day.
Our trip to Nara was a wonderful experience. Our guide Hiro, was very helpful and friendly. His explanations were immaculate and very straight to the point.
Super nice tour guide (Hiro) speak very well inglish and explains very well.
I want to start this review giving the highlight of this tour. My guide, Masako I, was wonderful. She was nice and knowledgeable about Nara. She based the tour on my interests, and she did not disappoint. We did a lot of walking on this tour (be prepared) and saw so many beautiful temples and shrines plus the deer are plentiful and eager in the park. They are much more docile near the temples and shrines. Nara was worth the visit and I recommend having Masako-San as your guide if you can book her. The one downside is the lack of transparency in the booking. The tour stated a flexible pickup from multiple locations but that wasn’t the case when I requested that option. The tour company has since updated their booking information to be more transparent about options.
This was a very memorable experience and my family and I had lots of fun times. Our guide Mr. Nagao was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The deer in Nara park were very cute, but would pursue you relentlessly to get the crackers. 😄
This 4 hour walking tour was the best way to see, and learn about, the temples / shrines in Nara Park - our guide Taka was friendly and knowledgeable - we all enjoyed the experience immensely
We had the most wonderful day with Tossy, our private guide, and Haruka, our driver. The itinerary was perfectly planned and gave us enough time to enjoy every stop without ever feeling rushed. We visited the Deer Park, the Great Buddha of Nara, enjoyed a beautiful lunch beside a peaceful river listening to birdsong, and then finished at the stunning Muro-sanjo Art Forest. We travelled in a luxury car which made the whole experience feel very relaxed and comfortable. Tossy was knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke excellent English. He even brought visual aids with him which really added to the experience and helped bring the history and culture to life. Everything felt thoughtful, calm, and well paced from start to finish. This ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Japan and we would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone wanting a more personal and memorable experience.
Our guide Toshi made this such a special experience. He shared so much of his experience and expertise about his city and Japanese culture in general, and also shared of himself as he celebrated the New Year’s holidays day with us. Thank you Toshy!
We had Kiyoto as our tour guide. He was great, very knowledgeable and flexible to adapt to our needs on the fly. Nara and Kyoto were amazing. Thank you!
My guide Chiko was very friendly and patient, and was a local who really understood the best way to pack in as much in our day as possible!
We visited Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Mt. Wakakusa and Isuien Garden. We were blessed with good weather which was fortunate because the places we went to were all outdoors. Fortunately, the shrine wasn't busy so we could take our time getting nice photos. Our guide was very cheerful and knowledgeable about the history and culture and gave us interesting snippets about the area. We had lunch at a local restaurant before hiking up Mt. Wakakusa. The walk wasn't too challenging and the views from the top were wonderful. We got to spend quality time with the deer too. The garden was beautiful. Very peaceful and calming. It was a lovely day. The pace was perfect and we got to enjoy the other places we passed through on our travels. I'm so glad I took the tour and would definitely recommend it.
Nara is so beautiful place! Hiking on Mt.Wakakusa made me forget my usual life. Views from top of the mountain look like I was in an different place, even It was very close to the center Nara city. Greens are so beautiful, air is clean, and everything made me feel good. Kasuga Grand Shrine also washed my heart. There are lots of shrine buildings colored in red and green and 3,000 lanterns coverd with moss. Cute deers in Nara park are divene messengers! The tour guide gave me a lot of interesing stories about the shrine. Isuien garden was another wonderful place. Two Japanese gardens with rivers are so beautiful and I strolled in the wide garden. Mt. Wakakusa I climbed today is used as a borrowed scenery which made the garden looks very wide. Thank you so much to give me such a wonderful experience today!
Until now I had only stuck around Toji temple so it was wonderful to experience Kasuga Taisha Shine, Mt Wakasuka and Isuien gardens and tea house with an experienced guide.
The shrine was really beautiful with unique lanterns. And it was peaceful and quiet. Deer were always close to us and sometimes playful so they made feel us relaxed. After that we climbed up the hill and found the amazing view on the top! Lastly we visited a cozy Japanese garden you can walk around with beautiful green trees. The guide explains a lot about Japanese culture and it was easy to understand. I completely enjoyed all of the places. Thank you!
It was nice though not very informative. But the guide was very nice and friendly. And I agree with the comments that you could add at least one more place to this tour. Thank you!
This morning we met with our guide near JR Nara station. During today's walk we visited many historical spots in Nara, like KofukunjTemple, park with deers, old area of Nara city, Kasuga Shrine and so on. At this period in Deers' park you can see pretty baby-deers with they mothers. Also you can always feed the deers with a kind of special food for them selling in the park. They got accustomed to the people so you can feed the deers just from your hands. Then we visited Todaiji - one of the largest wooden structure in the world with Great Budda inside. Also, there was Kasuga Shrine with the endless amount of ancient lanterns at the end of today's walking tour. If taking photos is your hobby or you want to take pictures of yourself in an authentic place, Kasuga Shrine is the area where you must go. Our guide told us many interesting stories about Kasuga Shrine and Todaiji Temple, kindly showed the best spots for taking pictures. Also, during the walk in Naramachi (old town area) the guide took us to the shop where we could try some Japanese sweets with sake. It was one of the most amazing days during my trip to Japan.
Today we visited the city of Nara. In Nara we visited many historical sites such as Kofukun Temple, Deer Park, Nara Old Town, Kasuga Temple and Todaiji. in the deer park all the deer are tame. Little deer have already been born. They are a pleasure to feed and walk among the deer. You can also always feed the deer with special food. Todaiji is one of the largest wooden structures in the world with the Great Buddha inside. This is a majestic structure. which everyone needs to visit. Kasuga Temple with an endless number of ancient lanterns. very atmospheric place. You should also definitely go to Kasuga Shrine. Our guide told us many interesting stories about Kasuga Temple and Todaiji Temple. Also, while walking around Naramachi (old town area), the guide took us to a shop where we could try Japanese sweets with sake. Nara is forever in my heart. thanks to the guide for helping me fall in love with this city and this ancient place with a rich history.
I have been to Nara before but there is so much to see and so many important and interesting places to visit so it was amazing to be shown around this time by a knowledgeable guide. I really enjoyed walking through Nara’s small downtown shopping streets and learn more about the local food and drink before heading into the park and seeing the landmarks and temples and of course interactive with the deers! I also loved how flexible the guide was stopping along the way and answering some of our maybe strange questions. Really great day discovering the area 😊
I was able to learn a lot about the culture and history of the ancient city of Nara, and it was a meaningful and enjoyable day. The air at Kasuga Taisha Shrine was particularly clear and refreshing. The newborn fawns in Nara Park were adorable.
Recently me and my wife took a trip to Kansai. We visited Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe. Nara was my favorite. In this tour, we got to visit several spots, interact and feed the cute deer, and had very good local food. The city is quite compact, but in a good way, making this the perfect 1-day tour. Our guide Mr Kiyoto was able to adapt and lead the group to the perfect destinations based on our preferences. It was quite the interactive tour.
Only three spots for 6 hours are not enough because Nara is a very compact town to travel around. You should add at least one more. And also the five-storied pagoda in Kofukuji has been under construction,so you should add the information to the selection list. It will be going like for 7 years! Anyway my guide was active and helpful. BTW He was late at meeting spot because he was at Kintetsu Nara, not JR Nara
Wondeerful Day Trip! My trip to Nara was full of surprises. I remember initially being worried that the guide was going to take me to a bunch of temples and I wouldn’t have enough time to see the deer. I was wrong. The cute deer were everywhere around Nara park, and the temples and shrines were quite interesting. For 200yen, there were several places to buy cookies so you could feed the deer yourself. The deer are very polite so you don’t have to worry. At the end of my tour, the guide took us to a very good smoothie shop. Overall the trip was very enjoyable. Thank you Japan Wonder Travel.
My guide was excellent and provided great commentary and answered all of my questions while touring around Nara. You get to choose from a list of places to visit, so there should be a good fit for anyone. I did the 8hr tour which started at Kyoto Station and it was plenty of time, at no point did I feel rushed. There were many great photo opportunities and my guide was helpful in capturing those moments (meeting the Nara deer!) You also get to have lunch with your guide (you choose where, but your guide can give you suggestions), which ended up being a really awesome experience as I got to pick a restaurant I normally would not have visited due to the language barrier. Having a guide to help give a more in depth explanation of things (especially if you aren’t Japanese) really enhanced my understanding of Nara and Japan. This tour was one of the top highlights of my trip, would definitely recommend!
Fantastic trip with our guide Ms. Naomi. She contacted us in time for the arrangements and the hotel pick-up was very punctual. We visited Nara calmly and at our own pace with complete historical and cultural explanations, in perfect English, very clear and understandable even for friends who do not speak the language very well. Ms. Naomi built the tour based on our requests, so in addition to the temples we were also able to visit Naramachi calmly. We absolutely recommend it.
