Christophe did an amazing job guiding us around the city on the bikes. The visit to the shrine, with the sacred deer and the knife shop went brilliantly. Even with the crazy amount of crowds due to the national holiday we all made it safely through them to have a wonderful time. Thanks so much!!

Itinerary
Cycle through the park of Nara and witness the harmony between the city and the deer. Avoid most traffic following your local guide to get the best cycling experience possible.
Admire the Great Southern Gate, the symbol of the Todaiji Temple domain. Admire the two fierce guardians of the gate and enjoy the beauty of its unique architecture.
Explore the Todaiji Temple, and learn about its history. Visit the temple where is located the biggest bronze Buddha statue in the country, the "Daibitsuden", and get a chance to go through the Buddha's nostril.
Visit the original shop of the prestigious knife maker company Kikuichi. Receive an introduction to Japanese cutlery, as well as advice on Japanese knives, if needed. Former Katana maker, there is no better place to get Japanese knives, directly from the manufacturer.
Visit the ancient Shrine "Kasuga Taisha" and learn about its spirit, the spirit of Kasuga, which can be described as the spirit of Nature, but also a general introduction to Shinto. Admire the beautiful Lantern path, and get the opportunity to make a wish at the Shinto shrine and connect with the spirit.
Stop by Ukimido, a hidden gem at the south of Nara Park, and a famous photo spot for weddings. Walk on the wooden bridge and relax in a very peaceful atmosphere. Get the chance to take a nice picture around the pond, and enjoy the area with fewer tourists than in the north of the park, before heading back to the base.

On this tour, you’ll have an opportunity to explore the park with a knowledgeable guide who will take you to all the must-see locations. It was our favourite tour from our trip to Japan. The bikes were in great condition and fun to ride. Our guide, Christophe, was so much fun to spend the day with. We could not have asked for a more perfect guide. He was attentive and taught us so much in the short time we were together. We really felt that he helped make our time in Nara Park so memorable. We knew that Nara Park was a must-see destination, and in the future when we return to Japan, we will certainly book this tour again.
Christopher was amazing and his knowledge was fantastic. He made this activity very enjoyable. Our daughter was obsessed with the dear and even without food the dear tended to gravitate towards her. Christopher just went with it and flexed our schedule since we were the only ones on the tour. He made her day
Had a fantastic tour! Would recommend to anyone. It’s a great way to see a bit more and get a little further from the hordes of people.
The bike ride was very excellent. Nara by bike was nice. The guide Robert was very nice en explained some background. You can book it directly by Japan Tour adventure.
We had such a wonderful time exploring Nara Park via electric bike. There’s no way we would’ve been able to see everything in one day by foot. This gave us the opportunity to really see and experience the entire park and more! Our guide, Christophe, was excellent!!!
The meeting point was easy to find and once you know the amount of acres the park entails, you thank whatever deity you believe in for eBikes. You could walk and wonder for miles without the bike. Christophe, set us up for our visit in Japan. The tour was full of wonderfully presented information that created respect and a basic understanding of what the Deer park, Temples and Shrines stood for and continue to represent. I would, and have already, recommended this tour.
A lovely afternoon out, though quite heavy on the Nara Park experience and lighter on the temples/knife aspect. We were a large-ish group in a crowd and it was sometimes hard to get a real history background on the locality (the deer were also a distraction) and the knife store visit was just that -- not a special event per se.
Best way to see Nara! The e-bikes were fantastic. But the tour guide was even better. Matthew was kind, knowledgeable and very informative. Would definitely recommend taking this tour.
One of the things we really appreciated about Christophe was his kindness We were running late and he patiently waited for us to join the group. He explained in great detail why things were the way that they were with historical accuracy. He provided snacks for us as well as the deer. We highly recommend Christophe as a guide.
I thought about taking a bike tour of Nara because I thought it would be nicer to move around and see more things in the time that we had! And I was right! Not to mention, our guide gave us wonderful information along the way. It was informative as well as fun.
Fabulous experience hitting the best of Nara. Very enjoyable afternoon. Our guide was knowledgeable and gracious. Highly recommend.
The tour path was simple riding, and saved my feet a ton of steps. I went in the early AM group and there were far more tourists at these places as we were leaving than when we began. This made for a more calm tour. The group tour guide, Matheus, was absolutely wonderful. He was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and made me feel very safe riding the ebike for the first time in Japan. I think this is the absolute best way to see Nara. Go shop at the market and grab a bite at any of the wonderful small restaurants on the old side of Nara. They have so much local items made in Nara. Id give them 10 stars if I could!
Matheus was a great guide in that he was able to answer our questions as we traveled around the sites. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on the ride so got lots of opportunities to discover what was there. I recommend going on the 9:00 tour before Nara gets busy.
I was disappointed by this tour. The guide either knew fairly little about the history of the sites or chose not to share. I tried asking for more information a few times and got only surface-level answers. His attitude toward the spirituality of the sites also felt flippant at times. I felt rushed at the Great Buddha Hall and in Kasuga Taisha, but we also spent a while just riding in circles over the grass of the park. Much of the tour had us riding through densely crowded areas, which was frustrating and seemed disrespectful to the pedestrians trying to walk. I appreciated going to the knife shop. I was able to purchase a nice gift at a reasonable price.
Very well organized bike tour with excellent guide! Highly recommended!
Fabulous ebike trip- really takes the weight off your feet. Lovely guide Matheus showed us all around the park, the deer, various shrines temples and knife shop. E bikes were really easy to use, and we explored much further than had we been on foot! Highly recommend!
Christophe was informative and interesting and we had a wonderful afternoon with him. The e-bikes were also a great idea . Highly recommend!
This is an excellent tour. Matheus was informative, friendly, knowledgable, extremely helpful and attentive. I really enjoyed learning about Nara's history and also hearing about his life in Japan. Feeding the deer is an absolute delight and the park, Temple and Shrine are all beautiful. Every minute of our ride and tour was fabulous. Highly recommend!
This is the first time i go out of my way to actually write a review of a tour I did, it was just that good! We had a tour with Matheus and can honestly say that this man has the patience of a saint and is very knowledgeable about the highlights of the tour, he took his time to set up the bicycles properly for everyone on the tour, gave us a lot of time to see the points of interest and answered any and all questions we had. This tour hits all the spots you'd want to see in Nara park, and while the temple, shrine and knife store are very nice, the true highlight for us was the feeding of the deer, there's just something magical about being able to get this close to such majestic animals. We were joined by a family with kids that hardly had any experience riding bicycles, which Matheus accomodated very nicely, taking his time and helping both the kids and parents out when they needed to take it more slowly. We actually went a bit over time because of it, but it's great to have a guide that understands these kinds of situations and accomodates so flawlessly to them. Matheus, keep doing what you're doing, you're an amazing guide for this 11/10 tour!
Excellent guide, wonderful e-bikes, informative and engaging tour. Our family had a fantastic day with the small group in the best parts of Nara at a great pace.
Very happy with the experience, and this was largely due to the demeanor and kindness of our guide, Christophe. From his first message, informing us of potential schedule changes due to the weather, he was professional and extremely accommodating. He worked with our wants and helped us reach a solution on the best schedule to still make our ride happen! As for the ride, it was calming, leisurely (with some small but easy pushes), and wonderfully scenic. Loved Nara Park especially, with all the deer and Cherry Blossoms! Again, Christophe shined by showing great guidance and really making us feel like he enjoyed doing his job. We are so thankful for him as our guide, and it was an easy going, fun bike ride!
Great experience on the e bike tour with Matheus. Very professional and knowledgeable guide and conducted the tour at a relaxed pace affording us enough time at each stop. Thoroughly enjoyed and definitely recommend.
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan last week. We did a day trip to Nara from Kyoto to ride along with Jean, a French Canadian fellow who has lived in Japan for 25 years. He was incredibly friendly and informative. Just the perfect guide. The tour is very well paced, with plenty of time at the temple and shrine that we visited, both of which were tied as our favorite site we visited on our trip. These sites are not to be missed. Simply stunning. And, of course, the deer are everywhere. Just everywhere. What a unique and fun experience it was feeding them. The nearly 4 hours flew by on this trip. And there's no way we could have seen all of this at such a leisurely pace on foot. Take this tour! You'll be glad you did.
My partner and I chose to do the E-bike Nara Highlights Todaiji, knives, deer and shrine tour in January. Jean-Yves was our wonderful guide. I highly recommended doing a tour like this, you get to go further on the bike than if you just walked it, so many beautiful places to see in the area. Being taken to the knife shop was a highlight, we bought a beautiful knife not only for day to day use but a nice memento as they inscribed our name on it. The deer are amazingly friendly, we got to feed them with the special biscuits and got a lick or two also! We thoroughly enjoyed the 3+ hours it took to ride around. Getting to and from the train station to the meeting point was also very easy.
4 hour ebike tour around Nara was the perfect late morning/ early afternoon activity to see all the sights. Christoph was a friendly and knowledgeable guide and I would certainly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see the temple, deer and check out some Japanese knives.
Unfortunately our guide was terrible and trip so unorganised it was dangerous at times. Jerome just spead ahead and left the group to fend/navigate for themselves.
Because of health and rain we had to cancel our bike tour on a Sunday, but Robert took us on a Monday. It was our first time on E bikes and Robert did a good job of showing us how to do them and making us feel very comfortable. We may have seen in three hours, but it would normally take people walking to do in six or eight anybody going to Kyoto and onto Nora should take advantage of this wonderful experience. After the tour even walked us back to the major shopping area, where we grabbed some dinner before returning to Kyoto on the train.
Brilliant ebike adventure for us and our two teenage boys. Was great seeing so much of Nara and learning from our guide Remi all about the history and culture of the sights. The bikes were comfortable and easy to use and the electric boost really helped on the uphills. We managed to avoid the crowds as much as possible. Helmets were provided free of charge, as well as a little sweet treat in the knife shop. Opportunity to buy personalised knives if desired but no pressure. Feeding the deer and watching them bow was a real highlight. Highly recommend as a break from all the walking.
Christophe was INCREDIBLE!! Patient, knowledgeable, and experienced. This was the perfect tour. Plenty of stops, incredible views, and great photo opportunities!
This was a perfect way to experience Nara hitting all the major tourist spots without the hassle of figuring out how to get to each spot. Jerome, our tour guide, was full of information and he didn’t rush us. I loved his peaceful energy! Perfect for anyone wanting to take a break from having to walk miles to see the sites. It wasn’t too short or too long. The bike shop is like 3 blocks from the train station. I’d recommend this to anyone who’s visiting Nara and doesn’t have all day to spend there but would like to catch the major sites.
We had a wonderful time on the e-bike tour! Chris was a welcoming and amiable guide, and he shared lots of interesting information throughout the tour. He was also very conscious of our safety and comfort on the bikes, and during rest breaks. We loved it! This was the best way to explore Nara Park.
What a great way to see Nara! We had the ability to see more of the park that would have been hard to do by walking. It was a nice mix of guided tour, where we learned about the history, and free time to explore the sights on our own. I highly recommend it!
We had such a lovely time! The tour was a perfect length, biking wasn’t challenging but also very interesting. And Christophe, our tour guide was amazing!
On such a warm summers day this was the best way to see the sights. The temples, the deers, the park. Elodie was a great guide. Who lead us on our way- no stressing about the wrong directions. The best feeling of all was going back knowing we did not need to walk in the hot sun and we saved time enough to get to Kyoto and see the golden temple
With the few hill and if it’s hot, the e-bike really helps you cover more ground, the parks are stunning
This was the best decision we did! Highly recommended doing this tour! Our English speaking guide Elodie was very knowledgeable and shared so much which allowed us to connect with their well planned tour! Our family enjoyed themselves so much and will never forget this experience! Especially visiting the famous Kikuichi Knives and get custom engravings! Thank you Elodie for sharing your love with us, appreciate YOU! Aloha!
I had such a great time on this bike tour of Nara Park! The entire experience was well-organized, fun, and full of beautiful sights. Our guide was incredibly kind and knowledgeable—sharing fascinating facts about the history, culture, and local landmarks in a way that was easy to understand and engaging. Biking through the park was such a peaceful and enjoyable way to see the area. We got to explore hidden paths, visit ancient temples, and of course, meet the famous deer! The pace was just right, and our guide made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe throughout the tour. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Nara. It’s a great way to experience the natural beauty and rich history of the area with someone who clearly loves what they do. Thank you for an unforgettable day!
We had an amazing time with Jean-Yves. He was very knowledgeable and had a lot of insightful comments about all the places we went to. It was raining during our trip but he was able to make some accomodations and it turned out really well. Highly recommend this tour!
This e-bike tour through Nara was highly educational and entertaining. Jaiv (our guide) was able to tell us a lot about the history, the sites and Japanese customs. The sight were pretty and we had plenty of time to take pictures, absorb all there was to see and enjoy a nice peddle through the park. The bikes were perfectly kept and even large enough for our tall built. We would highly recommend taking this tour!
Less walking in between attractions which are quite a distance and up hill. Informative guide helps along the way.
Great tour with Jean Yves! He was a great guide with a lot of information about Nara. The e-bikes really saved a lot of time and we were able to see some great sights in a few hours. Loved the knife shop and came home with a beautiful Japanese knife from a tremendous craftsman.
My family and I enjoyed the eBike tour offered by Japan Tour Adventures. They were very accommodating and punctual from the start, which I appreciated. We were on the last leg of our trip (already spent 14 days in Japan), and my group was showing their energy levels over the previous week, so the eBike excursion was a great solution to get us off our feet for a little bit. Our tour guide was knowledgeable—all you had to do was ask! She didn't overdo it, either, as she had the emotional intelligence to allow people to ponder and experience Nara first in their own eyes and then as a follow-up when needed. If there had to be a nitpick, the tour felt short. Three or so hours go by quickly when you're having a blast, though! I would recommend it if you need a quick change of pace, as Japan has a massive walking demand for all tourists!
We really enjoyed our time with Jean Yves. He was a great guide - interesting, patient and upbeat. It was a great way to see two major sites in Nara without all the walking. The e-bikes were very good quality and the information really made Nara come to life.
Remi was friendly and very knowledgeable and took some great photos. Family with teenagers and we all had an awesome time. Highly recommend booking this tour!
Very beautiful and spiritual experience. Robert was very knowledgeable, kind, and professional. We loved our time in Nara
We learned a lot and had a lot of fun. E-bike was a great way to see a large area in a short period of time. REMI was a great guide and really taught us a lot.
Great overview of 5 main activities in Nara. The guide was knowledgeable and pleasant and we had a great group.
Robert was our guide. This tour is the best way to see the highlights of Nara. It's a riding walking tour with a stop for snack. Highly recommend.
This tour was a highlight of our trip to Japan, our guide Robert was amazing, so informative and knowledgeable and answered all our questions. E-bikes are super fun and helped keep our step count down for the day😀
