Itinerary
The Spanish Quarters — or Quartieri Spagnoli — lie in the heart of Naples’ historic center, weaving together centuries of architecture, history, and local life. Built in the 16th century under the rule of Spanish viceroy Pedro de Toledo, these narrow, lively streets were originally created to house Spanish military troops. Their unique grid-like urban design flows down from Castel Sant’Elmo, creating a maze of alleys full of character, color, and contradiction. Once a symbol of military control, the neighborhood has evolved into one of the city’s most iconic and expressive areas — a living museum of street art, resilience, and Neapolitan identity. As we walk through the San Ferdinando, Avvocata, and Montecalvario districts, your guide will reveal how this once-marginalized area became a vibrant canvas of rebellion, memory, and hope.
Our journey takes us along Via Toledo, one of Naples’ most iconic and historic streets. Stretching from Piazza Dante to Piazza Trieste e Trento, this vibrant road has been a cornerstone of Neapolitan life, shopping, and culture since the 16th century. Commissioned in 1536 by Spanish viceroy Pedro Álvarez de Toledo, and designed by royal architects Ferdinando Manlio and Giovanni Benincasa, the street once ran parallel to the now-vanished Aragonese city walls. As Naples expanded under Toledo’s rule, the walls were demolished — making way for a new vision of the city. Today, Via Toledo is a lively mix of historic palaces, churches, and piazzas, where the echoes of the past blend with the energy of modern-day Naples. You'll walk the same path as generations of locals, revolutionaries, and artists — all under the watchful eye of Naples’ ever-evolving identity.

Giuliano’s was an excellent guide, very personable and a wealth of information. Would highly recommend this tour as long as she is the guide!
This tour of the Spanish Quarter was really interesting. Well paced and informative, we were lucky to be in a small group. What really made it outstanding though was our young guide Giulia. She was full of knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for her city. We learnt so much more from her than we would have if we’d just walked around this area on our own.
Great tour very informative lovely easy to listen to guide.
Very nice tour with Alexandra, interesting information and places! Would recommend!
Professional, kind and attentive guide with detailed explanations
Spanish quarter has a huge amount of history and is very much Naples Our English speaking tour guide was fantastic/ friendly & very knowledgeable Awesome tour well worth doing
The street art tour was probably a little too long. Our guide was very acknowledge and kind. Naples is not flat and there are a lot of steep streets and stairs. The underground tour was amazing and a little frightening. It starts with a 40 m set of stairs down into the wells and tunnels. The history and structure blow us away. Ed our guide was funny and entertaining. The tunnels were very narrow in some places and you needed to crouch down.
Two parts to the tour, first in Spanish quarter. Our guide Alexandria was great, very friendly, knowledgeable and a good pace to the tour. The area is full of character and like stepping back in time from modern city areas to an authentic unchanged way of life and community. The sights are not stunning but reflect a real connection of the people, their traditions and simple way of life. Well worth visiting. Hadn't really researched the the underground tour so wasn't sure what to expect, but was really impressed with both the history and the extent of the tunnels and our guide Clara, who was exceptional. She brought the tour to life with engaging stories, involving the visitors with a little humour thrown in too. The tunnels are very small in places, but manageable and adds to the funeral. If not keen on small spaces there's an option to skip those bits. We'll worth the visit and good value.
I had a booking at 9.30 but in the spot, I was told that my tour would be at 12.30 ☹️ due to the logistics with the underground tour etc. Fortunately we didn't have another appointment, anyhow we had to wait not to far from meeting point. Our guide was a kind young woman in a very warm day, we were only four members but sometimes I could not hear her very well, she talked too soft (I am not deaf...) Underground tour was fine, but maybe good to ask what is what you are going to visit, they are not all the same. Sympathetic guide Massimo.
Julia was an amazing tour guide! She was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the history and culture of Naples really interesting and easy to understand. We especially loved learning about the Spanish Quarter, its street art, traditions, and local stories. She also gave us great recommendations for places to eat and visit. Highly recommend a tour with Julia!
Miriam was a fantastic tour guide. She was friendly and informative. The tour moved along at a nice pace to keep everyone interested with enough time to take pictures. Learnt so much about the Spanish Quarter which I would never have appreciated just wondering the streets. Would highly recommend.
Sara was an excellent guide and we had a great time and she was amazing with us and very accommodating!
Napoli is a living monument with a rich tradition in surviving many armies and hegemonies. People are still proud, independent and humble. Visit Neopolis and Spanish quartiere. Serena knows about literature, history and modern topics (Maradona included). Grazie
A great walking tour with Serena. She told us many interesting facts about the history of Naples and the Spanish quarter part of town. The underground tour was an excellent addition, but the timing of the walking tour ending could have been a bit better to avoid waiting on the street for half an hour for the underground tour to start.
Serena great local guide with local vibe
Lively walking tour, full of visual candy and Antonio's energetic and well-planned guiding. He is a very knowledgeable local who fills the dialogue with historic and cultural facts and can also sporadically share personal memories. I highly recommend this tour to anyone.
This is not a street art tour. It is a fascinating tour of the Spanish quarter and Virginia is a great guide with many interesting stories and insightful history of the area, but there is very little street art, which given that was the reason for booking, was very disappointing.
I did the tour through the Spanish Quarter with the guide Virgina. It was a great experience, with lots of things to see and giving you new insights in the history of Napoli. If you like streetart and also history in general, you should definetely book the tour. Virginia is a great guide and you can feel her passion for the quarter in the way she talks about it! She conects the streetart perfectly with the history of Napoli and especially the Spanish Quarter.
Simone was a great tour guide, perfect balance of wit and humour. Best walking tour I have been on to this day.
Alessandra, led a great tour through the nooks and crannies of the Spanish Quarter, very knowledgeable and engaging.
Had a great time with a small intimate group. Alessandra was a wonderful tour guide who was very well versed in Spanish history of Naples. It was authentic and I highly recommend.
Very nice walk and an excellent guide
Sara is a great guide, she has lots of knowledge but also great skills of story telling and keeping the group interested. I truly enjoyed the tour and left with a better knowledge of the Spanish Quarters history, culture and people's lives. Thank you, Sara!
Today’s tour with Sarah was absolutely fantastic. She was an incredible guide—warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about Naples. Walking with her through the Spanish Quarter was an unforgettable experience. Her English was excellent, making everything easy to follow, and the way she brought the history of Naples to life was truly special. What stood out most was how deeply she understood not only the city’s rich past, but also the street art, hidden corners, and stories behind the walls and alleys that many people would simply walk past without noticing. She gave us a real sense of the soul of Naples.
Our guide didn’t use the normal headset system that other tours seem to be using so you need to keep close. You receive a good history of how the Spanish quarter came about and have plenty of opportunity to ask questions. It was relaxing compared to the tours of the old town as the streets were quieter with less cars but need to keep an eye out for the scooters 😁 You get to see some of the street art and also have a stop at the Maradona tribute square
Virginia was an excellent guide and clearly interested and enthusiastic about the street art in the Spanish Quarter and about the history. Highly recommend.
For the English tour we had Miriam as out guide. She was very well informed, very helpful and we had the best time during the 2 hours of the tour! The tour itself vas very interesting and the objectives beautiful. Highly recommend!
Virginia, our tour guide, was fantastic. She made the tour very enjoyable and informative. It was a great mix of history and development of the city and the neighborhood. The information was presented smoothly, making it easy to follow. We would definitely recommend it.
We joined a walking tour of the Spanish Quarters in Naples, and it was an amazing experience. Virginia shared incredibly interesting and detailed insights about the area, its people, and local traditions — how they were formed and how they have evolved over time. She answered all our questions and was very friendly and engaging throughout the tour. Afterward, we found ourselves noticing so many details — street art, signs, and little elements that would have otherwise gone unnoticed or been difficult to understand. We learned a lot about the diversity of Naples and its history. Highly recommended!
We had an amazing tour with Sarette!! She was so informative and funny. I feel like I learned so much more about the area and she gave amazing recommendations upon departing. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone I know.
Wonderful... Saretta was great....and told us so many stories about Napoli. It helped us understand the way of life in the spanish aera.. Do not hesitate to do it
it was a wonderful experience with stefano. the tour was interesting and informative. we defenitely recommend it.
Taking the family through the Spanish Quarters was the highlight of our Naples trip. I’m not usually one for ‘street art,’ but those Maradona murals at the top of the hill are something to see. Our guide, Serena, knew every alleyway and made the local folklore about ghosts and old legends actually interesting for the kids. Funny thing happened: we were gawping at a mural when a local nonna lowered a basket on a rope from her balcony right onto my son’s head because she thought we were the delivery boy! The whole street had a laugh, and she even ended up tossing us some sweets. It’s chaotic with scooters everywhere, but it feels like the real heart of the city. We finished at the Pignasecca Market for some fried snacks that were top-notch. Definitely wear good shoes because those hills are no joke. It was well worth the money for a 2-hour walk.
I'm a tour guide myself so probably I'm more demanding as a tourist😉Miriam did a great job, combining street art with social, historical and cultural background. She explained everything in a very clear and understandable way. She kept us interested all the time, not a single second of the tour was boring. But it wasn't also too much, so I didn't feel overwhelmed. I could keep going, the two hours passed very quickly. Grazie mille, Miriam
Our tour guide, Virginia, was awesome. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We were the only ones, so we got a private tour. Highly recomended!
Awesome trip. Stefano shares the history of the town in an entertaining and vivid way. I got a chance to better understand Naples’ street art and the impact Maradona had on the city.
Great walking tour with Stefano today around the Spanish Quarter. Informative, interesting, great street art and knowledge about both the area and Naples
Roberta was a great guide. She took us to the Spanish Quarters and explained in detail the area and the art works. Her sense of humour made our experience even more pleasant. We will never forget the three religions....Catholic, food and MARADONA! Well done. I highly recommend Roberta.
Wonderfiul Miri very professional and smart guide, the best in town. Ihope to come back soon for a new guided tour with Miri
Very informative tour if you want to know about Napoli and the spanish quarter history, Miriam was very helpful and sweet, I recommend, grazie Miriam!
We had a great tour which Miriam really brought to life with all the information that she gave us about the wonderful city of Naples. Churches, art were all brought to life with her excellent commentary. If in Naples an absolute must do.
We absolutely loved this walking tour, our fabulous guide Miri took us down hidden streets in the captivating Spanish Quarters as she shared fascinating tales of the history of Naples and showed us unique street art with the wonderful Neapolitan story behind each piece - highly recommended
We joined the “Naples Street-Art Walking Tour” guided by Serena and it was absolutely fantastic! 🎨✨ She was passionate, knowledgeable, and full of energy; her stories brought each mural and alley of the Spanish Quarter to life. Serena’s enthusiasm made the walk fun and insightful. Highly recommended if you want to experience Naples through its art and history. Grazie di cuore ❤️ Serena! Valeria & Lukas
STEFANO is a very pleasant guide, professional and kind. The tour was interesting and if you will wait until the end of the tour you can get very good recommendations for restaurants.
Rally enjoyed that tour, fantastic guide. We had opportunity to walk around the Spanish neighborhood with Virginia. Great experience for this that want to hear about the historical Napoli area
Excellent Street art walking Tour of Naples led by Simon, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable Local. Highly recommended.
Great tour to give you a glimpse of a fascinating area of Naples. Simon was a great tour guide with excellent English speaking skills and much to share.
Great walk combining history, culture, pop art and football. Thoroughly enjoyable and worth it. Serena and Anna were great guides. Serena was an endless source of information and insight into Neapolitan culture, helping me understand much of the city's vibrancy.
The guide was late and met at a point different than was on website. Knew the Spanish neighborhood since she lived there. Street art was disappointing and some of it was never explained as we passed it! It was a filler excursion for me since my original one was cancelled!
