This is not a really a tour of anything. It’s a private driver that stays with you for the entire day, taking us to all the sites we wanted to see around Pompeii. Stopped at a very good restaurant half way up mount Vesuvius. Herculaneum was fascinating. Recommend guided tour there, and then explore Pompeii on your own. Guides are available as you arrive in season.

Herculaneum: The Hidden Treasure of the Ancient World Herculaneum, smaller than Pompeii, is an extraordinary archaeological site preserved by the volcanic mud from Mount Vesuvius’s eruption in 79 AD. Discovered in 1709, the first excavations revealed stunning marble statues and decorations, leading to the uncovering of vibrant mosaics, frescoes, and remarkably intact buildings that showcase Roman grandeur. Explore the luxurious Villa of the Papyri with its ancient scrolls and the elegant House of the Deer, adorned with sculptures. Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was engulfed by a pyroclastic surge, sealing and preserving the city in exceptional detail. This unique preservation offers a rare chance to walk through Roman streets, seeing bath complexes and market spaces as they once were. Join Di Sarno Car Service for an exclusive tour through history, art, and archaeology. Discover Herculaneum’s hidden gems and experience the intimate world of the ancient Romans in a way few places can offer
Mount Vesuvius: The Good Giant of Naples Vesuvius, the only active volcano in mainland Europe, stands as a majestic symbol over the Bay of Naples. Known for its 79 AD eruption that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum, it’s affectionately called the ""Good Giant"" by locals, reflecting the bond between the mountain and its people. Climbing Vesuvius is a unique adventure. Along the trail, volcanic artworks showcase the creativity sparked by nature’s force. At the summit, the view is spectacular: the vast crater and sweeping vistas of the Gulf of Naples, the city, and distant islands. Standing on the crater’s rim, you can almost picture the ancient eruption's impact. Today, Vesuvius embodies resilience, inspiring visitors with its raw beauty and historical significance. A visit to Vesuvius is a must when exploring Naples and its ancient ruins. Di Sarno Car Service invites you to experience the thrill of climbing this iconic volcano and take in one of Italy’s most breathtaking landscapes.
Pompeii: A Journey Through Time Explore Pompeii, the world's most famous open-air museum, where daily life of the Roman Empire is frozen in time by Mount Vesuvius’s eruption in 79 AD. Walk through preserved streets, visit the grand Temple of Apollo, the elegant Casa del Fauno, and the vast Amphitheater, one of the best-preserved of its kind. Marvel at the intricate mosaics, vivid frescoes, and detailed sculptures that bring ancient Rome to life. Each corner of Pompeii reveals stories of a world that thrived nearly two millennia ago, making it a must-see for history enthusiasts. Just beyond the ruins, discover the modern city’s traditional craftsmanship, including one of the oldest coral factories where artisans create exquisite pieces inspired by ancient Greek-Roman designs. Pompeii offers a journey through history, archaeology, and art. Embark on this unforgettable tour with Di Sarno Car Service, and let the past come alive before your eyes.

The guide was a nice young man and very accommodating. However, with the description Private Tour, we thought that we were buying a private tour of the sites, not just a driver. Once I reread the fine print under exclusions it said the service could hire us a guide but I didn’t understand that meant the private tour was a private driver and you’re on your own when you arrive at the sites. Unfortunately it poured rain so we cut Pompeii short, loved the wine tasting and lunch they arranged and cut out Herculaneum altogether due to weather. But the history we had hoped to get from our guide was nonexistent. And we didn’t know we were just getting dropped off until we arrived at Pompeii. Perhaps it was our misunderstanding but the title of the tour should be clear that you are getting a private driver for these sites, not a private tour.
You have to buy your tickets to Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, and Herculaneum and you do not have a tour guide on this trip. Our Driver was great, but it really should say. Private driver because that’s all we got was a driver. we werereally disappointed whenever we ha to come up with a couple hundred dollars more for tickets and you have no tour guide!
Davide was an amazing guide. He showed us some insider info about different statues and he was really informative.
We had a great experience with Cesare on our tour. He arrived on time, was very friendly, helpful, and informative throughout the day. Everything was well organized, but we never felt rushed and were able to enjoy each stop at our own pace. Cesare also took us to a great spot for lunch and showed us some beautiful places to stop for photos along the way. It made the whole day relaxing and enjoyable. Great service from beginning to end. We really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend Cesare to anyone visiting the Naples, Pompeii, or Amalfi Coast area. We would definitely book with him again!
Great experience! The day was very busy and tiring but our driver Angelo was so kind. We had an extended time between our entry of Herculaneum and Vesuvius so he took us to a couple of shops to waste some time. After Vesuvius he had arranged a lunch for us that was one of the best meals of our time in Italy. Angelo checked in with us at each destination to make sure everything was going well. He made the exhausting day wonderful! Highly recommend!
Davide was a gracious and attentive driver, using his experience with the Naples region to deliver an excellent day’s tour to all three sites. As a bonus he instantly located a pharmacy when one of us complained of incipient blisters requiring moleskin.
I booked a day trip that began at 8am. Stops included Herculaneum, Vesuvius, and Pompeii. Our driver, Angelo, was a delight. He was knowledgeable and an excellent driver. He communicated how much time we would need at each stop, and our pick up times and locations clearly. He recommended a couple of additional stops and even made a reservation for our lunch (and we insisted that he join us). I have done private tours in many different countries (East Asia, Africa, North America, etc) -- and this was one of the best. Well worth it for the convenience and the experience.
We rated our tour 5/5 as David was punctual and made sure we were comfortable the whole day. I would recommend this company and if possible, ask for David as your driver!
We came in on the high-speed train from Rome on Easter weekend with a group of seven, including three 12-year-old boys, and Cesar was waiting for us with exactly the right energy. Happy, funny, flexible, never once making us feel like we were on a schedule we couldn’t adjust. When we wanted to shift things around, he just rolled with it. We did Vesuvius first — the crater hike was a great change of pace from our usual Italy activities. With kids it was about an hour up and back, totally manageable, and the view from the top was genuinely impressive. Our boys loved seeing the actual crater even if it was, as one of them noted, “just dirt and some steam vents.” Still cool. From there, Pompeii with a guide Cesar connected us with, she was excellent. Keeping the attention of three 12-year-olds isn’t always easy but she held it together well and the site itself is just fascinating. We’re all really glad we went. We asked to keep lunch to an hour so we could maximize time there, and Cesar adjusted appropriately without complaint. It also didn’t hurt that he’s a dad to a son around the same age as ours. That connection came through. Spending Easter with a group of strangers and bringing that much warmth to it says something. Planning and coordination with DiSarno ahead of time was smooth, always responsive, always prompt. The van fit seven of us comfortably; we had originally planned for eight and I’m honestly glad it ended up being seven, as I’m not sure where the eighth person would’ve gone. Highly recommend for a Naples day trip, especially with kids.
Mario was a very good tour guide. Extremely helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable.
Covered all the sites wanted to see.
Polly and Placido were fantastic! Really informative and made the day so much fun! Thank you!
A very nice tour, everything went very well. The driver, Cesare, was very friendly and competent. We would gladly recommend the tour.
Cesare is a fantastic guide and driver. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and very accommodating. You won’t be disappointed spending the day with him.
This was my favorite excursion so far on our 11 day cruise. Getting to see Herculaneum first then hiking Vesuvius and wrapping the day up walking through the ruins of Pompeii. We had plenty of time for all 3 activities and time for a sit down lunch. No other excursion did all 3, that we could find and our driver Joseph and guide Mary made everything so smooth.
Our full day tour was incredible! The company even picked us up at a different port when our cruise ship changed its itinerary. They were extremely accommodating with our large group of 11. Rosita was an amazing guide with a wealth of knowledge and passion for the area and its history. 100% would recommend booking with this company!
Our four-person family group had a great experience on our tour! Vinny picked us up at our hotel right on time, managed our schedule all day, gave us recommendations in response to special requests during the tour, and modified our schedule as needed to accommodate those requests. For example, we asked for a suggestion for a lunch spot, and Vinny made arrangements for us to do a tour and lunch at a beautiful winery near Pompeii, which was a lovely bonus to the day. It was wonderful not having to worry about logistics getting between the sites or coordinating our tickets, and having a cool and quiet car to relax in throughout the day. Two minor things to note that deviated from what the company told us at booking: (1) we were told that tickets for Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Vesuvius were included in our price, but day-of we were told Herculaneum tickets were not included and we needed to buy them ourselves; and (2) we were told that we could pay the final balance day-of by credit card or cash, but day-of we were told it was cash only.
Luca, our driver/guide, was an expert on the Roman history of Ercolano, Vesuvius and Pompeii. We chose not to do the climb to the crater and we really appreciated that Luca would slow down or make a quick stop just for us to be able to take nice photos. That was a big plus! He is an Italian by heart and soul, he made our trip more immersive.
If you only have a day, this is the way to see and experience three amazing sites. Worry free and easy. Our driver, Luca, was great at getting us to Herculeneaum (2 hours) Vesuvius (90 minutes) and Pompeii (2 hours). And back to Naples! One thing to note is that this service is only for a driver. Admission is on your own (except they were able to get us tickets to walk up Vesuvius, which we were unable to get on our own). And no guided tours are included. Something else to consider. We used a self guided tour for Herculeneaum. Vesuvius was self explanatory. Wish we had a guide for Pompeii. Downloaded site’s app, but not too helpful. And two hours wasn’t long enough!
One can see Naples Pompeī, Ercolano, Vesuvio, on various tours BUT without Mario as your driver and semi guide , you will not have a exceptional trip with great stories and fantastic atmosphere . Super Mario Geazie Mille !
Driver and guide Mario was the best! Excellent tour, perfectly planned! Perfect timing, everything clear and explained. Interesting stories. And fun all the time. Grazie milke!
This is a car service that took me to all 3 places, but I had to arrange my own tours. The driver was wonderful and willing to drive to all 3 in what ever order I wanted, not what was planned.
Organizing the tour was pretty easy, with quick answers from different lady employees. Driver Cesare who came to pick us up was even a few minutes early. Nice experience. Cesare gave us good explanations, and was very quick to pick us up after we visited Pompeii resp. after we returned from the peak of Vesuvio. As a summary, all in all a very positive experience, to be recommended.
Kind, cheerful and friendly driver with informative talks on the local spots. I can recommend this one to my friends who have plan to visit Napoli.
READ CAREFULLY. this does NOT INCLUDE A GUIDE OR ANY TICKETS. DRIVER ONLY. If you want a guide in the sites you need another tour. The driver was excellent, helpful, pleasant and responsive. Modern van transport that was just us. He was 5 stars. But for this price I expected (BUT DID NOT READ carefully enough) that is EXCLUDES any tickets for any of the three , nor any guidance INSIDE the site. We were on our own.
We had an absolutely fantastic time and our driver couldn't have been done a better job at making sure we had a great tour. They communicated well with us, modified the plans to meet our needs (cruise ship arrival and departure time), and set us up with an incredible guide while at Pompeii as well. We were some of the first people off the ship and our driver was already waiting for us with a sign with our name on it. Very easy to find. We were in the car and on the way before most people were even off the ship. We planned to make the first stop at Herculaneum, which was their suggestion to beat the crowds. Being a little ahead of schedule, our driver suggested a quick stop and a small shop for a cappuccino (which we thoroughly enjoyed and I think it was the best one we drank on the trip) before we got to Herculaneum right as it was opening. We literally got to wander around the town with only 4-6 other people at the site, it was amazing and we highly recommend it. By the time we were ready to leave, the tour groups were just starting to arrive. Couldn't have timed it better! Next stop, Vesuvius! Quick drive up the mountain, he explained what to expect, and we made the hike up to the caldera. Amazing views from there, both of the surrounding city and coast, as well as the volcano itself. It is quick a little steep hike up to the top, but we did it in about 15 minutes (huffing and puffing), and really enjoyed the time to take in the views and just think about what the eruption must have been like. Definitely a moment where you realize how small we are versus mother nature. Last stop, Pompeii. They prearranged a guide for us, which was absolutely worth the extra cost. She knew we only had about two hours, definitely no where NEAR enough time to thoroughly enjoy Pompeii, but we had to get back to the ship, so she put together a plan to see the highlights and avoid seeing the same sorts of things we saw at Herculaneum. Along the way, she filled in a lot of gaps for us about what we saw at the other site and she gave us incredible insight into what they've uncovered and what life must have been like around 2,000 years ago. Just an incredible day all around and worth every penny for the experience we had. There is no way we could have seen as much or enjoyed it as much without booking with Di Sarno. Thanks again to our GREAT driver and guide for the day, Salvatore and to our guide in Pompeii, Francesca. I hope I got both of your names right!
We booked a car and driver to take us from cruise terminal to the archeological sites and up to mt Vesuvius. We were unable to navigate the website to make the purchase for timed entry tickets to go up to Mt Vesuvius. Our driver knew how to obtain the tickets and showed up with two tickets for us to get in he timed everything perfectly and delivered us back to the ship on time. He was very friendly knowledgeable and spoke great English. Would and will recommend Luca to anyone we know visiting the area. He was great!
Caesar was a wonderful driver and we had a great day. He was knowledgeable of the areas and points of interest. Some reviews complain that it is just a taxi as you pay into Herculaneum and Pompeii however it is much cheaper than a €65 can one way and more enjoyment
The tour incorporates three awesome sites. Antonio was a very competent and careful driver, a bit of a rarity in Naples. He also took us to a very good pizza restaurant on the slopes of Vesuvius for lunch. We had 90 minutes each for Herculaneum and Vesuvius and two hours at Pompeii. It’s a very full day and yet we barely scratched the surface, especially at Pompeii, which could fill a full day, at least, on its own. However, our time was limited so this fitted well with our schedule
We took a day trip out of Naples to tour Herculaneum, Mt. Vesuvius, and Pompeii. We rented audio tours at Herculaneum and they were not great. It was hard to find our way around because the place is NOT in numerical order and you can hardly hear the audio. We felt like we wasted our time. We reported this to Dolly, our guide, and Daniela, our driver. They found a personal guide for the 8 of us prior to our visit of Pompeii. So much better!!! Our guide, Rosella, was fabulous!!! In between those tours, we hiked beautiful Mt. Vesuvius, luckily between cloudbursts. It was an amazing view of Naples and the crater! Dolly, Daniela, and Rosella made our day. I’d recommend them to my family and friends. Wish we had met Rosella for our Herculaneum tour, too.
We booked this tour with Di Sarno Car Services through TripAdvisor. Although this tour is designed to operate from Naples the company agreed that they would pick us up from Sorrento. I would advise to check with them first. The driver, Giovanni, arrived on time and spoke good English. He was excellent throughout the tour and modified it to suit our requirements. Nothing was a problem for him. We would certainly use them again if we return to this stunning part of Italy.
What a great relief to have selected this tour! Visiting Pompeii has been on my son’s bucket list for 5+ years! Then as we were planning our trip to Italy he commented he’d also like to go to Mt Vesuvius. Hiring a driver seemed the best way to go. Salvatore was assigned our trip and he was fantastic! A great communicator. He gave us historical information on the drives. He gave us prompt instructions for meeting times and locations for when we were done self-touring the diff stops of Pompeii, Mt Vesuvius and Herculaneum. Best of all (for me!) is he gave an amazing recommendation for a fantastic limoncello vendor and it DID NOT disappoint! It was EXACTLY what I’d hoped for so I could have some shipped back to the US. Herculaneum is much smaller- easy to do in about 1.5-2hr. Mt Vesuvius took about 25min climb to top from the top lot drop off point. Maybe a little further if you walk all the way to end point around the crater. So 1.5hr was fine for us. Our only wish was that we’d chosen to spend more time in Pompeii. We had no idea how big it was!! Our ticket entrance time to Mt Vesuvius was 1:30, which allowed us more time in Pompeii than expected (and so very needed!). The only suggestion I’d have is for us to be given some recommendations of which stops have the casts, otherwise we almost missed it. However, I don’t dock the company for this bc we didn’t hire a tour guide, we hired a driver and Salvatore was great! Easy to understand. Very accommodating. Had cold waters ready for us in an air-conditioned van. Took us to the top lot for drop off on the mtn. Gave a great recommendation for sandwiches since we wanted to have take away to spend more time at locations. Oh! And communication with the tour company was very helpful and with prompt replies leading up to our trip - guiding me where to purchase entry tickets in advance! Would highly recommend again and again to use this company!
We had the BEST day with Cesare! He didn't just drive us to the sites, he gave us color and historical background. He also gave us very good guidance on how to best work our way through the sites.
Giovanni our driver was very courteous and made sure we had plenty of time to do and see the things we wanted. He got us back to the ship in plenty of time. If we come back we would most definitely ask for him again!
Giovanni was terrific. Good English, knowledgeable, and flexible. He gave us great information and helped us find great guide at the last minute at Pompeii (Daniel). Made a long, exciting day relaxing and doable. The van was super comfortable for four people and clean.
Good day, Nice experience for both trip during this week-end . Our driver , Mr. Giovanni , make us a comfortable trip , best in town driver / assistant ! Best regards,
Rita and Frank! THANK YOU! Rita is so knowledgeable with Napolis history and our tour wouldn’t have been the same without her pointing out so many amazing features and facts. Thanks again!
We had an very polite driver in clean and nice car. He explained what we saw during the trip and what to expect at the three locations we visited.
The best part of our experience was our driver Aldo. Super nice and knowledgeable. Please read the small print. This was only transportation not a guided tour, We had to hire a guide in Pompeii and the audioguide in Herculaneum. Vesuvius was closed because the day before a railing had fallen,
The guide's enthusiam was infectious. It was a well-paced, two hour guided tour. The narrative behind the exhibit told a story of a long ago time which gave the antiquities context.
Francesca (guide) and Francesco (driver) were both excellent. Two things which dropped a 4 star experience to a 3 was that the private car was replaced by a minibus (and there were only 2 of us) and that the Vesuvius ticket site was malfunctioning which caused a delay waiting in the car park. What would make this a 5 star experience would be if the tickets were included and if the guide showed you around (she waited with the car).
Had a great experience in Naples with Di Sarno Car Service. Our driver was David and he was fantastic. He was a very good driver and knew enough about each location to give us an overview of everything. He is “working on his English” but we had NO PROBLEM understanding him at any time. We DID have a guide for Pompeii which was helpful to understand history and the engineering of the city but we didn’t need on for Vesuvius or Herculaneum. Our daughter is coming here next year and she will use David then.
Our family day tour was excellent - a very efficient way to get to 3 major sites in a day. Our driver Salvatore was punctual, friendly and informative. Our guide to Pompeii and Herculaneum, Elvira, quickly took us past the crowds and told us so much about the sites. Although it seemed expensive initially, the arrangements were easy to make despite our changes, and on the day it was so comfortable and easy and we learnt so much that it was absolutely worth it.
Excellent service, and a very friendly and accommodating driver. Highly recommended service. Our driver’s name was David.
Antonio was excellent!! He was polite, courteous, patient, and always on time. He even took time to give us a little tour of Naples afterward. However, know this is just chauffeur service. Does NOT include tix to any sites but “skip the line” are available at pompeii. We did not need skip the line for Herculeum and Vesuvio tix HAVE to be purchased in advance. But was worrh the private car service for sure.
Our family (of 8) modified this tour to a 4-hour private transfer and private tour of Pompeii. This private tour was amazing......all coordinated through Di Sarno Car Service. Our driver was fantastic, and the tour guide in Pompeii was absolutely terrific. We topped this off with a visit to a winery for some wine tasting (Mt. Vesuvius wine).....one of the best experiences of our trip! Thank you so much!
We used Di Sarno services for our tour and we had an excellent time. Our Driver was Antonio and he was excellent! He gave us a great history lesson on the surrounding areas and was a pleasure to spend the day with. He also has great recommendations if you need to stop for a bite to eat or a drink.
This was a wonderful day and worth the expense to have the private car. After a week of navigating on our own, we were happy to have someone who knew all the ins and outs of the sites were were wanting to see. Our driver was very kind and knowledgeable, taking the time to tell us about other sites as we passed them. He also had the best recommendations for lunch. If you are in for the private car, I'd advise asking for tour guides as well at Vesuvius and Herculaneum. DiSarno arranged it for us and it was worth the extra cost!
From the moment I booked, the communication was excellent. Our driver Aldo, was just amazing, arriving on time in a large black vehicle with water and air conditioning. As a proud Neapolitan he shared with us the full history of Naples, explaining everything in perfect English as we drove to our first part of the tour: Pompei. I had asked the company to arrange a guide for us in Pompei and Herculaneum, and Aldo managed all of that for us. Carmine was our tour guide and his knowledge of the two sites brought them to life. Carmine pointed out things we would’ve missed, and spent so much time explaining the details of the archeological digs as well as life for Pompéiens. There are not enough words to describe just how amazing Aldo and Carmine were. Even my two teenagers described this as the best day of the holiday. On our way back to where we were staying, Aldo took a slight detour just to show my football mad teenage son the large street art of Maradona. This was probably the most expensive day of our holiday, but absolutely worth every penny spent on it. If you want to really understand and learn about Pompeii and Herculaneum then this is the way to do that!
