Our host on the tour was very knowledgeable, funny and kept us moving as we went through the few hours that we had together. The actual tour itself lasted 2 hours. Driving to and fro plus waiting time was about 2.5 hrs. If an opportunity presents itself to do it again we'd go on a longer tour to cover more of the site. The trip from Naples to Pompeii was very quiet. The organizer on the bus that sat with us could have added a few words about what to expect or point out a few sites along the way there would have been beneficial.

Itinerary
See Pompeii’s ancient piazza and Forum, where business dealings, elections, speeches and processions would have played out during Roman times. Wander the site, marvel at the ancient limestone columns still standing today and capture the centuries-old scenery on camera. Continue onward with your guide to the thermal baths, where many of the townsfolk would have bathed, chatted and lived out their daily lives before the eruption. Wander down Via degli Augustali and discover the Lupanare, Pompeii’s brothel. A 2-storey building with five rooms on each floor, the Lupanare is decorated with some of the city’s most lustful frescoes. Your exact route will depend on the crowds and weather conditions.

The guide was an excellent orator, involved many of us in the stories and extremely knowledgeable. Had a taxi pick us up from our hotel (some distance away from Pompeii itself) saving time and money. Admission fee was in the price and saved a lot of hassle. The advertised length of visit was 4-5 hours but our guide said we only had two-hours (so that was a fib!) Atmosphere with the guide and the group was very good; small group size made it an enjoyable experience.
We were told to meet under the blue sign stanzia maritima. Never saw a blue sign. Got a email 1 1/2 hour before meeting time which we read after the tour. Paid for and English speaking guide. Our guide Giovoni was difficult to understand. We got a better understanding of the disaster watching youtube videos before we left home. The Athens tour was was so good we were expecting the the same. We experienced nothing close. Extremely disappointed
Unfortunately due to the female tours accent and manner of speaking it made it very difficult to understand half of what she said, so £350 for a group of 6 was a little wasted. wouldn’t recommend to friends or family. Little disappointing after seeing so many good reviews, but mainly maybe luck on down to the guide
We had a tour guide that bypassed some of the “hot spots” in Pompeii where you had huge crowds/line ups to see the ruins. We were appreciative of that. The park is large and it would take a full day (or even more) to see everything. What we saw/experienced was enough to give us a sense of how Pompeii and its peoples lived and died. There are a lot of people visiting the ruins so it is best to purchase tickets in advance or go with a tour which expedites your entry. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided enough detail. It was worth the money to check this off the bucket list.
TGood tour. Guide did good job. Headset was poor quality. Lost communication several times. Would recommend
Booked a private tour for a group of eight senior ladies. Wonderful tour guide. Knowledgeable, friendly. Recommend.
Michelle the tour guide was phenomenal. He had passion and knowledge about Pompeii but was very humorous when appropriate and I could have stayed all day it was so enjoyable.
Picked up right on time, 20 5min ride to Pompeii guide was very knowledgeable Michela knew the historical facts and could relate them to today's world
This is a hands off tour. We met at the bus. The person in charge asks it to board. On our way to Pompeii she didnt say a word to the whole bus. We arrive at Pompeii and she says see you at 1:00pm. The tour of Pompeii was niceas the park ranger conducted it. We met back at the bus and again nothing said to us as to what happens next. The bus ride back was terrible as the suspension system on the bus was broken and the ride was so bumpy that our heads were hitting the roof of the bus. This bus trip was worse than the jeeps we rode in while in Africa. Our bus person got off at one of the stops before our stop and we never saw her again. We have taken several Viator tours before and have loved them. This one was a huge disappointment.
The tour itself is great. Avoid Naples and make a day trip from Sorrento or even Rome. That city has a serious issue with cleanliness, kids zipping on scooters at 50km/h in high foot traffic area and EVERY wall has a graffiti. And why is everyone mad at each other? It’s not a place we’ll be returning to.
Poor guide, minimal information, unmotivated. Minivan returning to hotel was downright dangerous, we were being thrown around in our seats and driver was oblivious or not interested. A disappintment
Great trip. Maris was very nice and informative. Would highly recommend this trip . The trip was beyond our expectations.
This was a great tour, that allowed us to see the highlights of Pompeii. Our guide Michaela was engaging, informative and had a sense of humour. Would recommend this trip, although we were given free time before the tour started and afterwards, which we would have preferred not to have.
Again, a very unorganized start. Very difficult to find starting point. Then a very nice experience.. guide was knowledgeable and entertaining
Tour was wonderful. From being picked up in front of our hotel, driving through the chaotic traffic of Napoli, to the tour itself, everything was fun. Our guide, whose name I forgot, was fabulous. He was full of knowledge and a lot of humor. We loved every minute of it. My only wish is that is that instead of free time outside of the museum I wish he would have told us we could spend that extra free time in the museum. It didn’t detract from the tour, it’s was a truly remarkable place and tour. Would highly recommend!
It was very interesting and educational. Learned a lot! Our guide did a great job, despite the extreme heat and humidity.
A lot of walking and uneven pavers. Elderly visitors will have to use caution. Difficult to understand tour leader.
Our guide Lily was excellent and pickup was prompt and easy
Amazing experience. Pick up and drop off were great. Guide was great and Pompei, well it’s a bucket list and didn’t disappoint
Guid was very knowledgeable and amazing to see Pompeii! Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes (don’t recommend flip flops) and bring water!
The instructions for the meeting place should include, not only "outside the cruise terminal", but also something like "between the two columns / guard stations". "Outside the cruise terminal" is too broad; there are too many people out there. The tour guide was late, and it was hard to know for certain we were in the right place. And if you are trying to find someone, it would also help to have the person wearing easy-to-identify clothing. It is never good to start the tour frustrated because one cannot find the tour guide. The tour guide was not easy to understand. While we appreciate English is not the first language, the tour guide (an older man, Italian native) did not engage the tour group. It was "here is this, and here is that" and then left us to see and after everyone saw it, he moved on to the next location. He did not offer enough free time, nor did he wait for us nor let us see inside the "museum", nor wait for us (nor show us) the restrooms. This was at the end of the tour. All he had to do is to make sure everyone was together. The impression I got was he could not get this over soon enough. The group needs to be smaller. Too many of us per tour guide. Not good customer interaction / support.
We did 4 hour tour starting in the morning. Pickup was convenient in front of hotel near Naples port region. Tour leader was fluent in at least 4 languages (wow!!). Once at Pompeii site, we were quickly organized into language specific tours. Guide was understandable, knowledgeable and considerate of the extremely temperatures by keeping our group in shade as much as possible. She also had a subtle sense of humor. Tour of ruins covered a good amount of the grounds without feeling rushed. Outside the ruins are plenty of options for food and refreshments. Return trip had a little confusion but the driver adapted and everyone was dropped off as expected.
It is a very interesting stop! Be aware that it is rough walking in some areas and an umbrella would be helpful if it is a warm day. Crowded... but where else can you experience this
Great way to skip the line, I really liked how this tour picked me up at my hotel and dropped me off after
Our ride/ greeter ( not the guide) did not do a good job of welcoming anyone other than a hello. Nothing was pointed out along the way or telling us without asking if other to join. The guide himself was a little rough around the corners in speech and information. He had a sense of humor but took a bit to just go with it. Explanatory of process would have been helpful in marketing and in person. Guide information that was shared was very informative. Small group was 15 people with several stops so time at site was 2 hours, which was enough as it was a flipping hot 100 degree F.
Overall very educational experience. Firstly, our tour began at 9:45 meeting at the provided location - but the bus was late, so we were left standing in the heat. We didn’t actually board the bus until 10:15. Being 15 minutes early to meet our guide that means 45 minutes of standing around. When we finally boarded the bus, it went the wrong way (???) and the driver had to turn around to get to the proper destination. It was fascinating to see the ruins, and see how the habitants of Pompei lived, cooked, and experienced day to day life. The lanes and roads are quite narrow at times, causing the guide to be far ahead of the group and the ear pieces would lose connection. This happened for about 1/3 of the experience. So there was a number of people that probably also had no idea what was being said. Also if you want to buy any souvenirs, do so outside of the establishment. It’s a little more pricey, but has much more variety. Bring water, a hat, and a portable hand held fan. Wear comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen.
Great guide with a lot of knowledge. Site was very amazing. The guide had an amazing sense of humor and made attendees very welcome.
The Pompeii tour was very interesting and the information given by our guide was excellent. The city was very large so wear good walking shoes.
Pickup went great. They were right on time to get us. But, once we got to Pompeii the waiting began. We were told our tour guide would arrive in 20 minutes when we first got there (1015). By 1050 they were telling us our entry tickets weren't until 1115. So waited around the entrance for 1 hour prior to entry. Tour guide was adequate but not great. Departure was a bit of a mess too. Had to wait around 25 minutes to catch our transfer back. I would encourage searching around for a different tour. We went with this one because we wanted a shorter trip so we could spend more time in Naples. We lost around an hour and a half in Naples due to delays in their operation.
The guide at the Pompeiii site was very good. It was a very hot day so a bit uncomfortable. We have done a number of Viator tours and they have usually been self contained-small group with a guide/driver. This was different because the transport was handled by one person and then handed off to another for the larger group tour.
Very disappointed the way this tour was organised. We were at the meeting point 15 minutes prior to the time at the cruise ship terminal. We had to call the tour company looking for the pickup person. They were late and not where they said they would be. When we got to Pompeii it was very clear that the tour was not booked because there was no guide or head sets organised. We were in a group of about 20 people. We wasted 25 minutes just waiting for them to sort it all out. There was no announcements on the bus when we were picked up as to what the trip agenda was. When the tour guide and headset were finally organised, the tour lady was great. The Pompeii attraction was fantastic but the tour company was very disorganised. I would not recommend this tour based on what we experienced.
This is a very interesting experience and the guide was very knowledgeable and spoke very good English. Be prepared for a lot of walking and many people especially in the summer months.
Great host. Very well organized between bus pickup to Pompeii tour guide. Guide was very nice some great english and kept a great pace for all ages that were in the group. Highly recommend this tour company.
From being notified about my pickup point the day before, to the final drop-off, this was an expertly organised tour. Maria, my guide, was outstanding and very knowledgeable. On a very hot day she found the shade, pointed out the highlights and guided us through the experience of a lifetime. To walk the streets that Romans walked, to touch the marble and stone they touched, to see the wall paintings and street signs … it was unforgettable.
Our guide was Maria and she was excellent! Extensive historical knowledge and very helpful. It was a very hot day and she did her best to guide us to shade. Loved the tour!! Thank you!!
We booked the day before and still managed to secure a bus pickup from our hotel (they pick up from a limited list of Napoli hotels). Upon arrival to Pompeii we were sorted into groups by requested language. This part was (dis)organized chaos! We had time to wander in a shop and grab gelato, as our guide arrived late. She apologized (and threw her company under the bus for the error lol). Guide was knowledgeable and informative without overwhelming us with info. Spoke clearly and slowly and catered to her audience (including cracking several jokes) which included folks from multiple countries. She managed the group well, very professional. Back at the entrance, another chaotic scene unfolded while sorting us again into groups based on destination (Napoli, Sorrento, Mt. Vesuvius). But it’s southern Italy so you just go with it. Weather was good, 80f in early June with clear skies. Bring water, wear a hat and sunblock if you are a pale sort like I am. Overall would recommend Pompeii (as if) and would do this tour again.
Guide makes all the difference! It’s much larger than most people imagine and you need an expert to explain what you are seeing. Flawless coordination. Picked up on time and coordinated with guide and returned to hotel on time., Well worth the money!
Good overall. Be a little patient because the van goes to pick up folks from the hotels and traffic is bad. Pompeii is amazing and interesting.
Wonderful experience and company!! We were a group of 7 and they picked up and dropped us off at our hotel in Napoli. Made it pleasant and stress free. Katia was an excellent guide! She kept us all interested and engaged!! Highly recommend her tour to f Pompei!
you need to clean the bus in between trips and should start the trip timely. we were at the meeting point timely but had to wait about 30 minutes until we got on the bus. Pompeii is worth the trip but being better organized is helpful. after the tour we had to again wait before proceeding back to ship
The tour of Pompeii itself was excellent but basically all Project Napoli do is arrange transport. Dumped at the end (on the road, not at the port terminal), with one word from driver "porto". Pleasant but rather chaotic half day.
The ruins guide named Maria was very difficult to understand. Her English language ability was marginal.
Was good in most part- some of the group had mobility issues so slow down the tour
Our tour guide Maria was excellent , very informative and kept the group engaged. The tour took approximately 2 hours but the space was busy and the bathrooms cost 0.50euro to use. Only thing that was not appreciated was that the bus pick up was to be at 1:50pm and the girl was trying to organise extra 2 people who missed their other tour on the bus as we were late she rushed the group to walk to the bus leaving behind a lot of elderly people who could not walk fast, she also crossed the street and left everyone behind My friends and family were shocked and we had others stopping and tried to help. Although the tour was excellent that part was unprofessional and she young employee should know that she should be aware of the clientele.
Very informative and being picked up and dropped off was great. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. You really need a guide for this tour to get all the right information. The communication from the tour company was excellent.
The half day tour was just right for us, especially since we just flew in that morning. The tour was informative and just right amount of time, then we just chilled the rest of the day
The guide (Mitchel) told us to wait for him and we did. But it turned out he left early and left us behind. Luckily a very polite man helped us join the group, but we missed the first 15 min, and Mitchel did not even say sorry. He was inpolite and rushed through everything. Pompeji is Pompeji, beautiful and breathtaking, but the guide ruined the experience.
We took the bus from the port. Walking tour Pompeii was about two hours long. I do get to walk through some of the old structures. Pictures are fantastic.
Pick up point address is not accurate. Use the pin as your guide. Ilaria was not polite as we left for pick up point 30 minutes early and our hotel said it was a five minute walk. When we discovered at 10 minutes before pick up time we were lost and that the address was invalid we tried to phone but never got an answer. Had to text multiple times only to get response of do you not understand maps. I use Viator a lot and this was first bad address which also changed once. Guide should have redirected me to follow only the pin drop given the day before but again the address was repeated and we were told to meet in front of a store that also did not come up on Google Maps. Our actual tour guide of Pompeii was excellent and was an archaeologist.
