This is a super cool archeological site obviously. However, our guide, Luigi, was a jerk. He got so mad if you asked a question that he had already talked about or answered. It made it so people were afraid to ask or say anything.

Step back in time at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most evocative places on Earth. Frozen in time by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, this vast site offers a unique window into ancient Roman life. Walk through remarkably preserved streets, explore opulent villas adorned with vibrant frescoes, and marvel at the majestic temples and theaters that once formed the heart of this thriving city.
Enter the city through Porta Marina, the most monumental of Pompeii’s seven gates. Walk in through this ancient gateway, originally designed for travelers arriving from the sea, and explore with your guide the impressive double-arch structure that separated pedestrians from carriages. As you pass through these massive stone walls, you’ll immediately feel the grandeur of the Roman Empire welcoming you into the streets of the past.
Step into the Forum, the monumental heart of ancient Pompeii. Explore with your guide the remains of the city's grandest temples and public buildings that once buzzed with political and commercial life. Walk in the footsteps of Roman citizens across this expansive square, where you can admire the iconic silhouette of Mt. Vesuvius looming in the distance—the perfect spot to capture the essence of this frozen city.
The Macellum of Pompeii was located on the Forum and as the provision market of Pompeii was one of the focal points of the ancient city. The building was constructed in several phases. When the earthquake of 62 CE destroyed large parts of Pompeii, the Macellum was also damaged.
The Forum Baths are located behind the Temple of Jupiter and date back to the years immediately after the founding of the colony of veterans by General Silla (80 BC). Women's and men's quarters had separate entrances. The men's section presents an apodyterium (dressing room), used also as a tepidarium (for medium temperature baths), frigidarium (for cold baths) and calidarium (for hot baths). Like many buildings in Pompeii, the baths were heavily damaged during the earthquake of 62 AD.
Dominated by the Vesuvius with its statues of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, the temple was the Capitolium, similar to the one located in the Ancient Rome. The statues were highly placed to be visible to those passing in the Forum.
The Lupanar of Pompeii is the most famous brothel in the ruined Roman city of Pompeii. It is of particular interest for the erotic paintings on its walls. Lupanar is Latin for "brothel". The Pompeii lupanar is also known as Lupanare Grande.
The House of the Faun (Casa del Fauno) is one of the largest and most luxurious private residences in Pompeii, occupying an entire city block. Named after the iconic bronze statue of a dancing faun found in its main atrium, the house is a masterpiece of Roman architecture and Hellenistic influence. It is most famous for housing the magnificent Alexander Mosaic, which depicts the battle between Alexander the Great and Darius III of Persia. With its two peristyle gardens and intricate floor mosaics, it remains a powerful symbol of the immense wealth and sophisticated taste of the city's elite.
Via dell’Abbondanza was the ancient main street (decumanus maximus) of ancient Pompeii, which ran across the city in the direction east/west from the Forum to the Porta Sarno. In ancient times the street was crowded and noisy with many shops, workshops ("officinae”), cafes, snack-bars and restaurants for food and drink.
The Basilica is the most sumptuous building of the Forum, and its space was used to carry out business and for the administration of justice
As we make our way toward the theaters, we will walk through the moving Garden of the Fugitives. Explore with your guide this solemn site, where you can see the plaster casts of 13 victims frozen in their final moments while attempting to escape the eruption. It is a powerful and reflective path that leads us directly into the heart of the city’s cultural district.
The Large Theater of Pompeii was built from the Romans on the slope of a hill located in the area; they took advantage of the natural depression of the mountain to create a majesty auditorium divided into 5 sectors. On the stage were played tragedies of the Greco-Roman traditions.
A you exit from the Archeological Park of Pompeii, enjoy free time for lunch between your explorations. Whether you choose to grab a quick traditional snack or sit down at a local restaurant. This is the perfect moment to relax and recharge before we head toward the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius.
Reach the crater's edge at 1.280 mt to admire a breathtaking panorama on the Gulf of Naples. The surface of the path is uneven, but it' ll be well worth it. Following the devastating eruption, it was named after the Roman God of the Flame and Metal Forgery – Vulcan.
Walk in the clouds as you reach the summit of Mt. Vesuvius and explore with your guide the rim of the great crater. From this incredible vantage point, you will be rewarded with a world-class view overlooking the Bay of Naples. Marvel at the breathtaking panorama of the sparkling Mediterranean, the city below, and the distant islands of Capri and Ischia, all from the top of Europe’s most famous volcano.
After an unforgettable day of history and heights, settle into your comfortable coach for the return trip to Napples. Explore with your guide the final highlights of the journey as you descend the volcanic slopes, enjoying one last view overlooking the Bay of Naples. It is the perfect time to unwind, review your photos, and relax as we bring you back to your original departure point.

This was a full on day, lots of walking, fab tour guides, an hour break for lunch. Clear instructions on when to regroup. My 11 and 15 year olds were fully engaged throughout the whole experience. Climbing to the top of Vesuvius was a particular highlight. Felt like we had the best of everything. We completed the trip in Oct so although the weather was surprisingly warm it was still manageable. In the summer hydration is a must. Also plenty of toilet stops when needed.
Great day. We spent two and a half hours walking around Pompeii with a knowledgeable guide. Bear in mind if you want to spend longer, this might be the trip for you or you go back at another time. Lunch at the restaurant was much needed before heading off to Mount Vesuvius. The walk was as described and there’s are some steep inclines. However, it is a mountain but totally worth putting in that extra effort. We will be coming back and revisiting Pompeii as this trip was a fantastic warm up. Bus was comfortable and driver was excellent at working his way around the roads.
It was organized, on time according to the schedule. Angela was great and really kind! We definitely recommend this day trip, totally worth it!
Rosella is a well-experienced guide and explained all the information and resourceful . Very supportive, we had a good time throughout.
A trip of two halves literally. The follow up from Viator as an operator has been shockingly bad. Don’t bother using them if can avoid it. Morning: Cannot fault the tour to Pompeii (bar arriving late and missing 30mins of the planned tour, we were not told anything would be missed due to late arrival). That said, our guide around the site was fantastic and really brought the story to life for us. Lunch break also nice and used the recommended cafe. Food very good. Post this I don’t have much that is good to say. Afternoon: Post lunch our main tour guide informed us we were not going to Vesuvius and also they were unable to get us back to Naples on the prepaid coach. This was due to fuel protestors blocking roads. Whilst not their fault we were left with confusing messages and told we needed to find our own way home. The guide was clearly put in a difficult position and her support form her central Team must have been bad as it went into full confusion then. Luckily there was a train station with trains running back to Naples else we would be stuck. We all had to pay this out of our own money and she did mention we should be reimbursed. Nothing offered at all to us for this post the day. The two stars are to acknowledge the Pompeii guide else we would on 0 stars. They day cost £107 pp. Since this we were offered circa £10 per person back from Viator before hearing the facts. On challenging this as they are in partial breach of contact and asking for 50% back pp we got told a firm no (via a blanket email) and end of case . They have answered no correspondence since providing more details and further requests for compensation. Two other friends who booked individually and had exactly the same experience have been given 100% refund!! To me Viator have been terrible here and clearly very inconsistent. My advice - use a better company to book your tour through. Unhelpful, not empathetic to the events and clearly out for themselves. They are not recommended by any of us and I certainly won’t use them again.
Bring 50c for the toilets, I didn’t have any cash so couldn’t use the toilet and wasn’t told beforehand to bring any
Fantastic tour guides, thank you Loulou and Rosella. Took the stress out of the day.
This was an excellent excursion. For those who want to experience all of pompeii, you may feel you dont get enough time in the ruins but for families with children, it is the perfect length the keep them engaged and interested. Our guide (Isabella) was very warm, welcoming and knowledgable about the site. She adapted the tour to avoid the biggest crowds and show all the highlights. After Pompeii, we were taken to a restaurant for lunch (excellent service, well priced) before being driven up to Vesuvius. The walk up from the car park is not gentle but we were given plenty of time to get up to the crater, have a wander around and get back down. Walking up Vesuvius was one of the highlights of our trip to Naples. Would thoroughly recommend this trip.
The day tour guide, Angela, was very good. Mimi at Pompeii was excellent and the guided visit itself was very good. Unfortunately, the overall experience was seriously let down by the way the excursion was operated. We booked the eight-hour Pompeii and Vesuvius tour from Naples for 19th October 2026, expecting transport to both sites and return transport to Naples. The scheduled start was 8.15am, but the driver did not arrive until approximately 9.00am due to being 'stuck in traffic'. Although we were taken to Pompeii and enjoyed the guided tour, the excursion was subsequently abandoned. We did not visit Mount Vesuvius, which was a large part of what we had paid for, and the promised return transport to Naples was not provided. We were left to arrange our own journey back by train and pay the additional fare ourselves. I appreciate that unexpected local conditions can disrupt travel plans. However, the operator has not adequately explained and with no return transport provided. The whole were simply left to make our own arrangements, with Angela apologising. I contacted Viator to seek a fair refund for the substantial parts of the advertised excursion that were not delivered, together with reimbursement of our additional train fare. The response has been disappointing: the operator considers £14 per person sufficient compensation despite it being less than a sixth of the tour cost, citing the costs it incurred and describing the payment as a goodwill gesture. That does not adequately address the fact that a significant part of the tour was omitted and we had to pay extra to get back to Naples. In summary, the Pompeii visit and guides were excellent, but the late start, missing Vesuvius visit, lack of return transport and unsatisfactory handling of the complaint significantly detracted from the experience. Based on our experience, I would recommend caution before booking this excursion unless the operator can provide reassurance about what happens if the planned itinerary is disrupted and how return transport will be ensured.
Wonderful day, perfectly organised
Isabella was very kknowledgeable and Antonio was great too, thanks for a great day trip.
Amazing experience! Pompeii is spectacular and we could only imagine what it was like in its day. Glorious. For Vesuvius, worth the climb to the crater. We suggest you wear good walking shoes and bring your hiking poles if you have them. They climb isn’t really difficult but the dirt path can be slippery and rocky.
We could not walk up to the Crater , our guide said that it was too windy, so Not Safe . We were promised a “ Partial refund “ . As yet have not received an acknowledgement or any refund. Bit disappointed.
this review is not a reflection of viator but the company that they used in Italy for this tour. We had all of our tickets and receipts proving we should be on this tour and when we arrived our names were not even on the list. Our guide called the company, and they told her they had a problem with their booking even though we had been charged for the tickets already. no phone call to tell us there was a problem. then we were told to get our own transportation to Pompeii. so, we proceeded to get our own transportation to Pompeii at our own expense. We were on our way there and they called again telling us that we no longer had tickets for anything after they had told us to get our own transportation to Pompeii. Then once we arrived, they told us they would get us tickets to Pompeii but we could go no farther after, even though there was still room on the bus to go on to Mount Vesuvius. This day turned into a complete nightmare and was very disappointing to us. they company was not willing to work with us or help us have the experience that we had booked weeks in advance. the tour group company told us there was room and tickets for us but the 2nd party company would not work with us or help us at all.
I booked this tour for the hike alone. I enjoyed Pompeii, and Robertta did an amazing job. She is the sweetest, and I feel like we got to see and experience more of Pompeii with her than if we had gone on our own! The hike was interesting. I wish we had a little more time there personally. I enjoyed being at the top and meeting different people.
Amazing experience. Gabriella was our Pompeii tour guide, very knowledgeable and kept us on time and made sure we saw as much as possible. I can’t thank this tour group enough as our cruise ship ran late, and they worked with us so we could still go on the tour and have transportation. Wear comfortable shoes, and definitely bring a jacket for Vesuvius, the wind makes it very cold even in 70+ degree weather. Took us around 20 minutes to get to the top without experience hiking, take your time going up and it’s not bad but pretty steep. We would go everyday if we could! Andrea our bus driver was great going up as well.
The guide was quite knowledgeable and expressed herself well. The day we went was rainy and so we could not see Mt Vesuvius. We were told that there would be no refund and instead we were taken to Herculaneum, which was quite a good site also. I am not sure what we missed, but overall a good day.
It was well organised and our guide Roberta was excellent. Funny but very knowledgeable. It made for a great day along with Pompeii and Vesuvius of course.
Roberta was the best guide we have had! Organized and a great sense of humor. Roberta has a degree in archaeology and was so knowledgeable!!! Easily and quickly connected with our group. Navigated through the crowds effortlessly. Highly recommend this tour and guide!
Its a good tour - very clear instructions and a guide/ person was with us most times and kept us upto date on what needed to be told of the area. It was an all day visit and even though the group filled the coach it didnt matter - you had your earpiece and you followed and listened
Angela thank you for an amazing time we booked a second tour based off of her electric guitar personality. She was wonderful great recommendations for both tours. Pompei was incredible and Mt Vesuvius was breathtaking most literally!!!! Great views above the clouds!
Excellent tour with Dani and Luigi! Beautiful bus ride and very knowledgeable.
A great experience with the fabulous Roberta as our guide. Due to the weather, the paths on were Vesuvius were closed and this portion of the excursion was substituted with a visit to Herculean. Both Pompeii and Herculean were amazing and Roberta was a passionate and knowledgeable guide. Recommended.
Great adventure to see Pompeii and Vesuvius. Well organised and at a good pace. Interesting tour guide in Pompeii and Luigi and Rosselli were great drivers and guides. This tour is a bit to miss in Naples.
Rossella was very friendly, and explained everything calmly. And Luigi was a good driver. Driving the big bus up the Vesuvius mount.
Great tour, started early before the crowds. The guide was great, and the transportation was comfortable. We had more than enough time to go to the end of the trail and back
Daniela was great. The whole day was wonderful!
Amazing experience aided by knowledge and friendly tour guides
Do not book this tour. There are far too many people. Get a small group tour. Pay the extra. I booked this tour based on positive reviews. We did not have the same experience. The group is far too large. When we first arrived at Pompeii, as our guide was leading us in, the signal from her microphone was breaking up. I said something to her and she said “I know”. Our group traveled by bus and the bus was full. With so many people and such a narrow and crowded space, it is difficult to stay near the guide so that the microphone can be heard. We did our best. We had a few people in the group that walked at a slower pace which is completely understandable. Our guide moved fast. I could easily have kept up if not for so many in our group. I don’t like a slow tour but making sure everyone gets something out of it and doesn’t get lost should be paramount as a guide. When we got to passages that were single file only, the challenge to stay anywhere near our guide got harder. We spent our focus staying near her instead of focusing on what was being said. We got to a single file area and we were pushed to the back of the line. Another, different group merged into ours and our fast moving guide and group were gone. We never found them again. The flag the guide was holding was not raised very high. She claimed it was a large flag but it was small and crinkled. We walked all around trying to find our group but where we lost them there were multiple passageways. She never said, now we are going to the left door or the right door or any directions whatsoever. She never gave any consideration to how large her group was and how difficult it was to stay together under the very crowded atmosphere and the maze that is Pompeii. You are also trying to follow strangers. These people look the same as people from any other group. There is nothing to distinguish them from other strangers. I couldn’t have been more disappointed and angry. We lost 1 1/2 hours in Pompeii. I have heard about this since I was a child and booked a stay in Naples just so we could visit it. We didn’t know where we were or how long it would take us to make our way back to the meeting point so when we knew we would never see them in that area again, our goal was to not get left there with no way to return to Naples. We walked around and found the point where we had entered. We found a representative to the tour company and gave her the worthless listening devices and told her what had happened. When our guide finally returned with our group and asked us what happened, we explained it to her. She said, well, you could have just done it on your own. Huh? We have no map, we have no audio guide like we would have gotten had we not hired a GUIDE!. We had no idea where we were or what we were looking at. She never even knew we were gone but there was a man in the group that she made darn sure was hanging in. He was the only one she seemed to care about. I have been around the world and I take many tours so that I can have a guide explain the area to me. I have never, ever had an experience like this. It was my mistake to book something with so many people. It will never happen again. If you cannot manage the crowds and your group then you are not doing your job. Our bus driver did a wonderful job. He was very skilled and amazed me with the handling of the bus up to Mt. Vesuvius.
Great trip! Max and Rosella were great! Thank you!
A great experience, Roberta is so knowledgeable. She made it a day to remember!
Wear sensible walking shoes. Be prepared to learn so much, particularly about Pompeii. Pace yourself on the climb up Vesuvius. Go early in the day.
Two visits in one day was just enough to see the most important sites both in Pompeii and Vesuvius. Well organised. Enough time to have a lunch and some free time. Climbing to the top of Vesuvius takes a bit of effort - around 35 minutes to reach the top from bus stop. The viwes are fantastic.
Amazing experience Danny was very organized and a pleasure to be our guide
Dani set the table for our trip out to Pompeii from Sorrento, while Patricia provided the guided tour inside Pompeii. We arrived early in the morning, which worked well with smaller crowds to start with and fair weather. The tour hit many of the key sights while Patricia’s knowledge was extensive. Lorenzo, our bus driver did wonder in getting through narrow roads and worked around an accident that closed a road, to get us back in time.
Great day. Pompeii was incredible & much easier to understand the history & stories with having Isabella as a guide. She was knowledgeable about the history. The bus trip was comfy. Lunch was great for €18 had main, drink & ice-cream. Mt Vesuvius was good. A hard walk to the top if you're not fit or used to climbing steep terrain with loose scree but if you're willing to do it the view & the sights from the top are incredible! Well worth the sweat 😓 in the heat of the day. Bonus: there's a wee stall at the summit that sells drinks, including Limoncello, wine or beer to celebrate making it to the top. One suggestion; maybe 15 mins longer time on the mountain to really take it all in.
A great way to see Pompei and Vesuvius and Daniela was an excellent, knowledgeable and very professional tour guide.
Daniela is the best! She made the tour fun and herded all us tourists with style! Thank you for a memorable experience.
Roberta was a great guide. She was upbeat, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend taking this guided tour!
Overall an excellent day long tour around Pompeii and Vesuvius. Very glad we went on later September, because even then it was hot, particularly in Pompeii. The team leader, Angie, did an excellent job organising every part of the journey, including making sure we all had a table to sit and eat between Pompeii and Vesuvius. Pompeii was really interesting, though clearly you only see a small part in a two hour trip. It works have been good to have had some free time to wonder around a little but not an option with the beef for lunch and then the journey to Vesuvius. Vesuvius was an interesting experience, pretty steep and worth taking a decent pair of trainers. The best part of the climb and the top isn't the mountain though, it's the incredible views across the bay. The only downsides to the tour are the sheer number of people on the tour and also the numbers at Pompeii. Very crowded, making it difficult to really experience the views and feel for the place.
Wonderful day; just the right amount of time in each place and a very smooth transfer in between. Dani is an excellent guide - lots of extra information given during the journey - thank you Dani!
An absolute fabulous tour. Pompeii is amazing and the knowledge of our guide Roberta was incredible. She is a great history-story teller with a touch of humour 😉. Mt Vesuvius was incredible and the views stunning…it’s worth the slog to the crater…I saw steam😳 An excellent tour that I highly recommend ❤️
Really great trip. Isabella (guide) and Vincenzo (driver) were incredible. The lunch was very well managed. Sometimes the radio cut out if we got stuck behind another group but overall, this was an incredible experience
Full day very well organised. Make sure you have good walking shoes as climb up mount Vesuvius challenging. Great guide Isabella made the day enjoyable. Pompeii amazing
Guide was great, smart, knowledgeable, helpful, funny Pompeii and vesuvius were amazing Bus driver was skilled
Our guide Isabella was amazing! She knew so much, and painted a picture of life in Pompeii. The hike to the top of Vesuvius is steep so wear comfortable shoes. The view is worth it! Vincenzo our driver deserves a rave review for the expert driving down the mountain! Highly recommend this tour.
Very well organised. Bus driver, Luigi, navigated tight roads Very well. Daniella was friendly and tourguide in Pompeii was very informative. Lunch stop was well organised. Pleased we went.
Angie is an amazing guide, very informative and kind. We also really enjoyed our time with josefine in Pompeii. Andrea is the best driver I have ever seen, especially in such a large bus going up and down the mountain on a two way road 😬
Amazing experience with Daniela. Pompeii was amazing and Vesuvius was spectacular. A steep climb - approx 35 - 40 mins if you’re not an Olympian. All worth your while doing.
