I booked this tour for my husband and I during our stop in Naples on our honeymoon. We wanted to see Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii and thought guided tours would give us the best information paired with what we were seeing rather than doing them on our own. Luna was our tour guide, Giovanni was our bus driver, and Anna Sorrento was our archeologist guide inside Pompeii. Everything about our day was fantastic. Luna started off with some brief descriptions and highlights of Naples before getting into the history of Vesuvius. The hike up to the top is definitely worth while but mig by be a little difficult if you’re not used to somewhat steep inclines. The view at the top was absolutely breathtaking. Seeing Naples from all angles and Sorrento in the background was stunning and seeing the actual size of the crater of the volcano was wild. It was also amazing to see the smoke coming out of the walls of the rock. Pompeii was also absolutely amazing. Our tour guide Anna was so knowledgable, detailed, and funny, hinting at the more nefarious activities the Roman’s participated in due to the younger guests on our tour. She made sure we saw the best spots along the way, pointing out the incredible detail the Romans put into their artwork. The way she was able to describe how archeologists learned so much from what the Romans were doing at the exact time of the eruption was amazing. We truly couldn’t be happier to have gone on this tour and had the most incredible group of guides! Would recommend to all!

This trip was well organised from the initial booking, through to the Vesuvius and Pompeii experience. The guides were helpful and informative. We felt really well looked after, and everything went well. Both experiences were fantastic and well worth the money.
Tour guide (Mario) was very informative and very friendly, wonderful tour will definitely book again when I return to Italy. A presto Martin and Dylan Bardini.
Very good Organisation. Helpful links and information provided in advance. The app for the Vesuv is really cool - there is no connectivity on the mountain… Luna and Giovanni did a great job. Learned a lot but is was always fun to listen to them. Time flew.
The tour guide Mario was a great tour guide. It was really well organised with plenty of thought into food stops, length of day, distance of walk and covered everything I hoped for. Had a really good experience, tye guide at Pompeii was equally as good and informative and the size of the group of people I went with was perfect. Would go again with your company, woth Mario if possible 😆
I wanted to see Pompeii since I first heard about it in elementary school almost 70 years ago. So my expectations were high, like an eight-year-old before Christmas. And my husband and I just finished a cruise where the excursions were at a pace suitable for our age. And I was recently diagnosed with a medical condition that slowed me down even more. That said, I would have appreciated a slower pace. Maybe Viator could offer slower tours for people who like a more leisurely pace, even if it means more hours of walking? It didn't help that I'm about a head shorter than half the people on this trip, so a few times I couldn't see the guide even when I was within 10 feet of him. It would've been helpful if he had some kind of a flag for me to follow when I fell behind. And I was a bit surprised that the guide either didn't know or didn't want to talk about recent discoveries at Pompeii based on DNA and continued archaeology, discoveries that I read about in the New York Times. Except for that detail, the guide was excellent, as was the tour company representative who was with us throughout the entire trip. But my main complaint was about the size of our group. We paid a premium to get a small group. I don't consider 20 people a small group, especially given the small spaces in parts of Pompeii. And the bus that transported us was substandard. My seatbelt was broken, the carpet was torn in places, the windows were dirty, the seats were too small for all the long legged people, and the suspension felt like this bus had been over too many rough roads. So the bus gets a 2-star rating. The driver, on the other hand gets a 6-star rating, especially because the challenging drive up and back for the hike up Mount Vesuvius was complicated by what appeared to be a rally for more than 200 motorcyclists. Lunch was our other disappointment. We were expecting to be taken to a place where we could all share lunch. Instead, we were dropped off at a big shopping mall that had a number of fast food establishments and left to choose and buy whatever we wanted. We didn't come to Italy to have lunch at KFC or McDonald's, and we were basically flying blind because the menus were all in Italian and the prices were a secret until we received the bill. Viator might want discussions with Axios, the group that provided the tour, about discrepancies between the description and the reality of this tour. Despite my critical remarks, I was just delighted to see Pompeii, and my husband loved the hike up Mount Vesuvius. I'm glad we took this tour, even with its challenges.
Askos Tours provided a very practical and convenient service. We had an exciting drive up the steep hills to Mount Vesuvius. Afterwards we had a stop at a mall in modern Pompeii for lunch and bathrooms. Finally, we had a super-interesting and enjoyable guided tour in the ruins of Pompeii. Thank you to our excellent guide Luna!
Lots of walking , good history and amazing pictures ! If you don’t pay attention you will get lost easily ! Only an issue if your with group
Superb work by our guide Mario and Alaira❤️🙏🏼
It was a fantastic tour with our tour guide Roberta, Pompeii and Herculaneum were incredible, the heavy rain was pretty annoying though.
It was very insightful. Our guide Mario was very patient with the group. A couple of them were very late getting back to the bus which cut into our lunch time. He was very gracious.
We booked Askos Tours specifically because their transportation from Naples to Pompeii would allow us to visit Pompeii and still enjoy time exploring Naples before returning to Rome. Just ONE DAY before our tour, they called to cancel our transportation due to a vehicle problem. We already had nonrefundable train tickets from Rome, so changing our plans wasn’t an option. Their solution was a small refund and moving us to a later tour, leaving us to arrange transportation ourselves. Despite this inconvenience, we managed to arrive at Pompeii in time for an earlier tour. Unbelievably, they refused to accommodate us, even though their own transportation failure had caused the problem. Their on-site representative was neither kind nor helpful and showed no interest in finding a solution. As a result, we lost the opportunity to explore Naples as planned. Problems happen. What matters is how a company treats its customers when they do. Askos Tours failed miserably. We travel extensively and rarely experience such poor customer service. Think twice before booking with Askos Tours, especially if your itinerary is time-sensitive. We would never use them again.
What an amazing day, Mario our guide was informative and helpful, with so much knowledge on the history of Mount Vesuvius. Highly recommend.
After 10 days travelling by plane, car, ferries and bus to see Sicily, Amalfi coast and Naples, we decided to take a guided tour and decrease the stress/ effort out of visiting Pompei and Versuvius. It was an excellent decision 👏 It was very professional and all the guides were top quality. We had a vulconologist ( Giovanni) hike with us up to Versuvius crater , an archaeologist ( Antonella) show us around part of Pompei , and Luna was our representative tour guide ensuring we stayed on time and didn't get lost. All 3 guides were passionate and knowledgeable and really made the experience 10/10. Walking around Pompei and up Versuvius is tiring, so it was great to sit back on the bus and relax between sites and learn some new facts. This is definitely worth the money as tickets and transfers was included, great value.
Very interesting tour guided excellently by Mario at Vesuvius and Julia at Pompeji. Very knowledgeable were both our guides making the experience great.
Both guides were fabulous. Mario for the Vesuvius part and Michael ( the Archiologist) for Pompeii. Long day but we loved every minute of it.
We loved climbing to the top of the volcano and the history of the Pompeii was very interesting. We would have liked to see the theater and the colleseum.. Overall very well organized.
Mario was fantastic! He was knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend this tour.
What a great day spent visiting Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii, thanks to both Mario and Sergio. Highly recommend this tour.
Excellent tour – incredibly knowledgeable guides A fantastic day! Our guides, Mario and the guide in Pompeii, were extremely knowledgeable and added so much extra information and detail to the tour. They made the experience both interesting and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this tour, and I wouldn’t normally suggest taking a guided tour. In reality, you could spend an entire day exploring Pompeii, but this tour gives you a wonderful taste of the highlights and leaves you wanting to return to discover more. Mario’s suggestion for lunch at Varnelli’s Pizza was spot on. Wonderful meal and excellent service. One suggestion for improvement: It would be very helpful if the guides could point out the location of the bathrooms at each stop or location before the tour begins. Knowing where the nearest facilities are would be especially helpful for guests who may need to plan ahead during the day.
Great experience climbing Vesuvius and having an actual archaeologist show us round Pompeii. She really brought the history to life!
Mario was the best guide!!! Super professional and knowledgeable!!!! Thanks
The tour guide, Mario gave great information on our way to Vesuvius and Pompei. They made it seamless to explore both places.
Getting to visit Vesuvius and one of the archeological Pompeii sites in 1 day and not have to worry about logistics, tickets, or what am I looking at makes this tour perfect if your time and days are limited. Vesuvius is a moderate hike on uneven ground and you cover 570 ft in 1.24 miles 8.7% slope, but this is misleading as a majority of the gain is in the first 3/4s of a mile. It's a good workout and I wouldn't wear sandals, saw several individuals trip. Also, since you're at elevation, depending on the weather it can be cooler or hotter. It was overcast and breezy at the start, but hot and still at the rim. Watch the time and your pauses, 90 minutes round trip is what you get, and it takes about 30-35 minutes to get down. The audio guide is good and views fabulous. Mario was a fantastic tour guide providing a well paced narrative on the drive to Vesuvius and Pompeii. He provided not only the history of the area, but also explained what to look out for as you hiked up to the rim. He not only provided info about Vesuvius but also about the geological features of the Naples area. If you have hiking poles, good idea to bring/use them😉. After Vesuvius it's off to a 1 hour lunch in Pompeii. Lunch is on your own and in one direction is street food and tourist restaurants and in the other there's Varnelli. Tell them your with Askos and you'll be done in an hour. The Risotto Seafood, and Seared Octopus slider were fantastic! Alfredo was the archeological tour guide for the Pompeii archeological site and did a superb job!! He answered everyone's question, kept a nice pace, and provided information on the structures, reasons for the layout of the buildings, squares and pointed out unique features: the graffiti stone, reason beds were small, different types of frescoes, frescoes which served as menu, lead pipes, etc. He used humor expertly and painted a good picture of what Pompeii must have been like. I will take this tour again when I come with family.
Getting to visit Vesuvius and one of the archeological Pompeii sites in 1 day, and not having to worry about traffic, tickets, or what am I looking at both sites was fantastic. Mario, tour guide, was fabulous. He provided great information, not only about Vesuvius, but also about the geological features that make up the greater Naples area. He paced the narrative so it wasn't information overload. Be ready for a moderate incline hike on uneven ground at Vesuvius. The elevation gain is 570ft over 1.24 miles. Really good workout. The audio guide was good and views fantastic. Since you're going up in elevation, depending on weather, it will be hotter or cooler on the trail and at the rim. It was quite breezy at the start, and overcast. However, clouds broke up, breeze stopped and it was warm at rim. Do pace yourself, however don't pause to long on the trail as you have about 90 minutes. It was then off to lunch, which is on your own. 1 hour for lunch. There's usual street food and touristy restaurants in one direction and a good restaurant in the other "Varnelli" and if you tell them your with Askos tour, they'll get you out in an hour. It was enough time for Seafood Risotto and Seared Octopus starter, great tasting! Then it's off to the archeological Pompeii site. Having an archeological tour guide was fantastic as was the provided radio airbuds. Didn't have to worry about not hearing. Alfredo was fantastic, he took the time to answer everyone's question, explain not only the history, but also nuanced items: lead pipes used for water, why beds so small 🫣, graffiti corner🤭, etc.. He set an easy pace. Would definitely recommend this tour if you want to maximize your time and not have to worry about logistics.
A fantastic day! Our guide Mario and the guide in Pompei were extremely knowledgeable, adding extra information and detail to the tour. I would definitely recommend this tour and I would not normally suggest a guided tour. In reality you could spend all day at Pompei, the tour gives you a taste of the highlights and leaves you wanting to return to explore more.
I'll start off by saying the tour guides where great/knowledgeable and the even the bus driver was great. The only thing I noticed was that the description listed it as a maximum group size of 17, but our group size was 25. This only posed two problems. If you ended up in the back of the group at Pompeii you would loose connection to the guide missing out on some information. As well the bus only seats 25 so there is a chance of having to split up if you where at the back of the line. Also Pompeii is larger to be expected. The 2.5 hour tour gets you to the highlights, 2 - 3 core ruins with some info in-between. 4 - 6 hours would get you to most/all of the main ruins. A full day is need to see everything. If you have the time I would recommend doing Vesuvius and Pompeii as seperate day trips.
Well organised tour, Luna was our guide and she was friendly & provided a good level of information, Yolanda was the guide at Pompeii and was also very good. Would recommend this tour, great day.
The tour guide Mario was very knowledgeable and accommodating. There was a 30 delay leaving after a long hot day. Lunch at a mall is appalling and unacceptable despite repeated feedback to the tour company. In spite of this, they refuses to change. Totally cast a very negative image of the tour!!
Excellent excursion. Exactly as described. You have two guides: the first accompanied you to the start of the the Vesuvius hike and afterwards until you enter the Pompei ruins. The Pompei guide takes over after lunch. Very good hike up Vesuvius. Audioguide provided interesting information. Tour guide at Pompei also was excellent. A couple notes: the time allowed at Vesuvius should be 15-30 minutes longer. .We are strong hikers but the time to take in the views felt rushed; slower hikers may have trouble completing it on time. Also, you are given one hour free time between Vesuvius and Pompei for lunch on your own. However, the guide put on a very hard sell for one particular restaurant which he then lead most of the group to, and disparaged all the other restaurants in the area as tourist traps. We disregarded the pressure and had a wonderful and less expensive lunch at one of the other restaurants.
Mario was awesome! He educated the group on Mt Vesuvio while on the bus ride up. Then handed us off to Ella, the archeologist/guide for Pompei. She was a delight as well. Very much worth the tour price!
Great trip, Mario and excellent guide.
This trip was well organised with Mario as a very informative guide & an experienced archeologist for the Pompeii component who also provided great insight. We were fortunate to have great weather which provided fantastic views from Mount Vesuvius.
A perfect day tour for those who are having a short stay in Naples and are keen to visit the most famous spots nearby. Everything was very well-organised - time, transport, guided tours etc. Mario is very knowledgeable about the geology around the area and has a good sense of humour. We enjoyed the trip a lot and would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit the area. P.S. beware that weather can be hot and sunny in summer, remember to bring water and sunscreen.
Fabulous day out to Pompeii and Vesuvius. Our guides Mario and Michael were excellent. Remember water and comfortable trainers.
Excellent tour. Mario and Michael were fabulous guides. Would highly recommend this day out.
Dry professional team, very friendly. Mario and Mike were very helpful. Higher recruitment.
This was a very high impact tour. Between the climb to Vesuvius and the heat at Pompeii it was a tough one. However, our guide, Giovanni was amazing. My grandson and I had to leave early and he went out of his way to accommodate us and help us get back to our ship. He was also extremely informative, kind, and professional.
I recommend this tour, Our family had a good time, transportation was in good condition, air conditioning was very good(imp if travelling during summer), tour guide was very approachable and patient. enough time to hike mt. Vesuvius, lunch area was in a mall and had multiple choices. Pompeii guide was very informative and great story telling. Overall i would recommend this tour.
A great experience climbing Mt Vesuvius & the Pompeii site was brilliant. The Archeologist was very informative & engaging. Guide Mario was great, knew alot & also engaging. Well worth the money.
Very informed and interesting guides at both Vesuvius and Pompeii. Great experience all round. I would have preferred even longer at Pompeii (we were there for around 2 hours).
I booked with Askos Tours and the guide Mario was the best. He was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Thank you for the great experience when exploring Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii for the first time.
We were delighted with our guide Mario who was professional, cultured, witty and attentive to everyone in the group. Driver Sergio drove safely and carefully. Expert guidance in Pompeii by archaeologists gave us a phenomenal experience of the site.
What an incredible day and experience. From the start - Mario was welcoming. He is fantastic at what he does and he very passionate about it. He and Luigi (our driver) were great and made the start of our day/tour get off on the right foot. Mario was very funny and very knowledgeable. Luigi bless him was a man of few words but those fresh berries he gave us that he picked whilst we climbed Vesuvius were very welcome. Although we was sad to wave goodbye to Mario when we reached Pompeii as he went to start another Vesuvius climb, Antonio took over and was equally as great. He was extremely knowledgeable about Pompeii and gave us a real insight to life in Pompeii. He knew where to go and where all the right places to take us. We even asked him to see certain places and he made the tour all about us as a group. All in all - fantastic day. Lots and steps but absolutely worth it. Thank you Mario, Luigi and Antonio. It wouldn’t be the same day with you guys.
Wow! If you’re visiting Naples this is a must-do experience. The pick up was incredibly easy and the staff were outstanding! Vesuvius: Mario (our fabulous tour-guide) and Luigi (our expert driver) did an amazing job of getting us to and from Vesuvius safely. Mario’s knowledge of the site was incredible and he answered all our questions with ease. We feel so privileged to be able to say we climbed Vesuvius! Pompeii: Once again, Luigi showed us his expert driving skills and got us to and from Pompeii with no problems. Our Pompeii tour guide, Antonio, was incredible! Having grown up on and around the site, Antonio was able to show us many of the highlights (within the time frame) whilst also catering to everyone’s individual interests. I cannot thank Antonio enough for showing us around Pompeii. I have dreamt of visiting this site since I was a little girl and he truly made the experience so special. Overall, this was an incredible day out that was well worth the money! Thank you so much, Mario, Luigi and Antonio.
As a solo traveller this was a great package as it included transportation and amazing tours of both Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. It was a nice size group and we got a break between both activities to get some lunch. Mario was amazing, he knew lots about Vesuvius and was super friendly. He was with us the entire time, from pick up to drop off. Teresa was also amazing, her knowledge of Pompeii was amazing and super cool to hear about. She was so lovely and kind. Both guides had amazing personalities. 100% recommend if solo travelling or in a group.
Mario our guide was excellent, funny and helpful whilst considerate to all the members of the party. The climb up Vesuvius was short but still challenging due to the sun. Mario was bang on with his suggestions for timings. We then went on to lunch in a shopping mall which worked well especially for the kids with some familiar international fast food joints. The tour round Pompei was excellently planned by our guide Antonio and geared toward our requests. The guides on this tour were excellent all round. We felt like we got lots done in our day and was well worth doing as an organised trip like this.
Two exceptional guides - Mario in the morning on Vesuvius: loads of fascinating details on volcanoes and history. Miguel in the afternoon at Pompeii: brilliant descriptions and explanations of so many aspects of Roman life. Great pace and lots of photo opportunities. A fantastic day. Thank you.
Mount Vesuvius was more than an excellent experience thanks to our guide Mario. Our tour in Pompei was amazing and our guide very knowledgeable and engaging!
What a fascinating and enlightening tour. The tour guides for the day, Mario and Diego, were both full of warmth, character, humour and knowledge. Diego, finding us shade and breeze wherever he could - which was desperately needed, and much appreciated - told us loads about Pompeii and its past. Mario also clearly loves what he is talking about. We loved hearing all about Vesuvius, and the beautiful landscape. Both were approachable, friendly and inclusive. Thank you for a wonderful, magical day of culture and history.
