On the plus side, the artefacts on display in this museum are marvellous. If you're in Naples and have any interest in ancient history, you should visit. Sculptures and frescoes from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Glassware, kitchenware, medical equipment, the list goes on. The building itself is beautiful and even some of the display cases are works of art. The café serves good food but would benefit from a much bigger seating area. There's free baggage storage as you enter the museum. On the negative side, only a limited number of people can visit at once, and there's no shelter for the queue from the blazing sun or the torrential rain. Buying a ticket online sometimes gets you straight in, but I had to wait 20 minutes on my last visit, even though I already had a ticket and arrived in the middle of my timed slot. Once you're in, toilets are hidden away in the basement or the attic, and most of the women's toilets have no handle or lock.

Really worth a visit to see the pieces from Herculaneum and Pompeii and to read the history in shaded air-conditioned comfort. Visiting this museum prior to visiting the sites added a lot of info and context to those days later. It is amazing!
It was great to have a guided tour of the museum - it helped to put everything in context. Would recommend.
Nicoletta efficiently showed us all the highlights. The museum is quite large; we could not have done it as efficently on our own. Highly recommend.
Fabio was amazing!!! So knowledgeable and professional. He could answer all our questions with personal knowledge of experience in the field. Thank you for a great experence.
I loved this museum. There is so much to see. It is very well laid out, with lots of room. The sheer scale of the number of artefact's from Pompeii, Herculaneum and Capua is mind blowing. I wandered round for 3 hours and didn't get around it all. I will have to go back to see it all again. A reasonable price to get in too , only 16.00 euros for an adult.
Knowledgable friendly guide. Wonderful 2 hour tour. Learned so much. Definitely need a guide here, otherwise you would miss a lot
Anna was a superb guide. A lifelong Napolitan, she was highly knowledgeable about the many treasures in the museum. We were shocked to discover so many fabulous pieces beyond the mosiacs--sculpture, ceramics, ancient pottery, jewelry, etc. It is an incredible place. Their new cafe was fine, too, for a quick bite. (If you are on a cruise, it is TOO FAR to walk to meet at the museum. We walked back, which is fine/downhill. ) Anna and Viator, once again, did a great job significantly enhancing our visit.
The Archeological Museum is a must see. The displays are well organized and described in Italian and in English. There are statues and frescoes from Roman times as well as everyday items, jewelry, pottery, medical instruments etc. One wing is dedicated to mosaics and paintings from Pompeii. On the top floor ancient artifacts are displayed. There is a nice courtyard and also a cafe, stand up and with sit down service. A bookshop sells great books, Roman History for example.
The museum is really interesting, but it is poorly maintained. For an entrance fee of 22 euros you would expect at least a decend toilet..
This is one of the best archaeological museums in the world. Not only does it have all the goodies from Pompeii, but it also has the amazing Farnese Collection from Rome. I pre-booked tickets online fearing a traffic jam at the entrance, but there weren't that many people waiting in line. I arrived early to my prebooked time, and it didn't seem to matter--they let me in. They have a nice coat check option which is free, and you can deposit your backpack or umbrella or what have you so you can proceed unencumbered. The museum is rather old-school in its presentation, although most of the signage is in Italian and English, so you don't really miss out. We ate lunch at the museum cafe, and that was good--although the menu is hardly extensive. Currently the great mosaic of the Battle of Issus is under restoration and will not be viewable for about two years. Other than that, the other gems in the museum: the Spear Bearer, the Roman paintings, the Farnese Hercules and Farnese Bull, are all viewable. You'll have a great time if you go.
This is an extraordinary museum that is must for anyone interested in art and Italian history. We spent 3 hours but got hungry and left, but we all felt another hour would have been good. The building that houses the sculptures is beautiful. The sculptures and mosaic floors from Pompeii are a wonderful thing to see. The three of us felt this visit was a highlight of our three weeks in southern Italy.
My partner and I spent over 4 hours here admiring all the incredible exhibits and wonderfully preserved pieces of history. Make sure you go here if you visit Naples, you will not regret it. Cafe food was not too great but we didn’t go there for the food. Explore every inch, as there are things worth exploring hidden away everywhere. This is a perfect day out, and a breath taking display of history
A place full of culture! A rich and interesting museum that includes fabulous collections! The Pompeian frescoes and mosaics are unforgettable!
Our tour guide Anna had such an elegant way of blending historical knowledge to the artifacts we viewed, that it brought Pompeii and Herculaneum to life.
Great collection and artefacts, but not well arranged. Audio-guide isn't worth it, there is little information only for some artefacts. Signs are too small to read and you need to go really close. Check the most interesting parts first as the museum is too big and you will need the whole day to see it.
what was available to see was well worth the trip but there were some rooms closed which was a shame as would have ike to have seen the whole experience
Well-structured museum, with a system of monitored lockers at the entrance and security on every level. Very kind and helpful staff. Cleanliness and freshness everywhere. Clear and multilingual signage. Possibility to book guided tours on-site. The only downside (it is probably a service that needs to be booked, but I am not sure) was that the elevators were out of order and the restroom was on level -1. Not very inclusive condition for guests in wheelchairs.
I took advantage of the free day on April 25 to return to the MANN and, like every time, this place manages to surprise me. Crossing the threshold of this majestic Bourbon palace, born in the late eighteenth century to celebrate the Kingdom means immersing yourself in history and beauty. Each room is a journey into our culture, a journey surrounded by timeless wonders where each visit gives a new perspective, reminding me how lucky we are to have such a guardian of beauty in the heart of the city.
Incredible, this museum is amazing such a variety of ancient artifacts that make history breathe at every step of the visit. We got excited in every room.
Unparalleled museum, also because it is located in the heart of Naples The Egyptian section is hardly present in other museums The section concerning Pompeii then I think that really we can only have it in Naples and is absolutely not to be missed
Spectacular visit. Recommendation to everyone to visit it. You are ecstatic by so much beauty. On the ground floor the sculptures of ancient Rome leave you stunned.
Beautiful, large museum with many important works. I had the honor of attending the reopening after 1 year of restoration at the Farnese Gem Gallery, beautiful. The only drawback after paying €20 (adults) for admission at 10.00 were out of audio guides 🤦🏻♀️ in my opinion very serious!!!!
We visited this museum in February, the first Sunday of the month and we took advantage of the free ticket to enter. It houses a vast collection of finds, statuary and mosaics of ancient art of notable value. Absolutely worth visiting
All the treasures of Magna Graecia and Herculaneum and Pompeii in one place. The Pompeian frescoes and mosaics are unmissable, the Farnese sections and the one dedicated to Alexander the Great are impressive. All in a building that alone deserves it anyway. Peaceful visit, free from obligatory routes; large spaces and seats for breaks or to admire the main works. You can easily get to the Museo stop with metro 1, which ends practically below.
wide range and plenty of space: everything is beautiful to view. Varied collection, the best of pompei, and many beautiful things from rome, greece. If you have any interest -> must do.
All historical eras are enclosed in this wonderful museum. Beautiful to visit you can admire sculptures from the centuries of prehistoric times, to the age of the Egyptians, Roman imperial era, up to the present day. It is worth all the money spent on the ticket, they should only quote it in dictionary air since being immense and it takes several hours to visit it all in summer you die of heat.
