It was a great experience. Our guide, Mr Leone, was excellent! So passionate and informative and very funny. Loved the whole experience twice as much because of him. He explained the historical facts so well! Thank you

The house receives its name from marble statues of stags/deer found in the peristyle.
M. Nonius Balbus was the city's major benefactor restoring and building many public buildings. On his death he was made patron and feted with many honours, detailed in the long inscription on his funeral altar.
It is thought that the building was a centre of the cult of the Emperor Augustus and the headquarters of the Collegium Augustalium (or possibly even the local curia).
The house possibly belonged to one of the town's leading benefactors, Marcus Nonius Balbus and is somewhat unusual in that it has its own private access to the adjoining Suburban Thermae to the south.
It is very important house for the elegant wooden partition remained.
The House of the Skeleton probably the aggregation of three smaller buildings, derives its name from the discovery of human remains in a second floor room in 1831.
The Central Thermae were built around the beginning of the 1st century AD and were divided, as was then the common practice, into men's and women's baths, each with their own separate entrances.
The House of the Black Hall is one of Herculaneum's more luxurious mansions. The house has a monumental entrance which still retains the carbonised remains of the doorposts and lintel.
The house has an arrangement that was typical of the Samnites (an ancient people of the Sabine race who occupied this mountainous part of central Italy). The splendid atrium is skirted by a gallery with Ionic columns. The rooms are decorated with frescoes.
This is one of the most original houses in Herculaneum. It has a courtyard with a stairway and a stone balcony instead of an atrium.
Beautiful domus in the Centre of the archaeological area, with various environments, collonnati, frescos e-com everywhere at Herculaneum-charred remains of wooden parts.

Great day out and definetly the right way to get the most out of Herculaneum. The only downside with using a guide is that you may not see certain areas and get to know things about various buildings. This is obviously due to the 2 hour time constraint and the size of the group. Although it says "Small Group", this still means 20 or so people following the guide and in someareas it can be difficult to hear/ see what is going on. Having said that, we had a great and vary enthusiastic guide, who certainly knew his stuff. As we didn't see all of the site during the tour, we decided to spend another couple of hours to investigate unseen areas. Recommend the tour, but be aware the time constraint, amount of people in the group and that you will not see everything.
A fascinating tour with professional insight and detail delivered by Luciano Leone with honesty and humour to keep all ages engaged. His knowledge is second to none and his clear English, together with his style of delivery and use of basic educational tools made this short tour of Herculaneum truly memorable.
Great overview of Herculaneum and history of the region . Very knowledgeable guide . Worth the effort to travel
Luciano Leone was the best guide we've ever had on any tour. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about Herculaneum. We learnt so much in two hours and could happily have spent much longer with him. It makes a huge difference to have an experienced archeologist take you around an historic sight. Thank you Luciano for an amazing tour.
Luciano Leone led an absolutely excellent 2 hour tour of Herculaneum for our family in a small group. Luciano's expert professional experience, infectious enthusiasm and sense of fun gave us an exceptional experience that we will treasure. Deeply engaged and knowledgeable with history, archeology, art and life of the site, the region and the era, this was a real pleasure for all the family - thank you Luciano!
Leonardo, our guide, was the best! Extremely knowledgeable, did everything he could to make it a memorable experience while adding humor. Excellent experience!
Excellent walking tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide (Diego). The site is amazing and without a guide, I'm sure it is still a fantastic experience but the guide added a huge amount. He explained how the people lived in herculaneum, how they might have experienced the eruption and how the excavation was achieved, pointing out original and restored features throughout. Very enjoyable excursion and just the right length to get a real feel for the place and see the highlights but not long enough for our children to get bored. Would recommend.
Luciano Leone was interesting and informative guide on our small group tour of Herculaneum! The depth of his knowledge was astounding. Thank for giving me a better understanding of this important and beautiful site.
The guide was very knowledgeable and animated! He showed pictures of how everything looked before the eruption. I had trouble understanding his English.
Roberta was a fantastic guide, very knowledgable and clear delivery. The pace of the tour was just right, group number was good. Didn’t feel rushed. A much better experience than the Pompeii tour.
A wonderfully organised tour. We had about 18 people in our group, but our ear piece was fantastic and enabled us to hear everything the guide was saying without missing any information. Our guide had good English and answered any questions that we had in detail. He didn’t rush us, but instead, took his time to share his enthusiasm and knowledge. Wonderful way to spend the day. When the tour was over, we spent another hour or so wandering around ourselves.
Diego was out guide from Askos tours Diego was informative about the site and archaeology in general We were never rushed and the audio device supplied was very clear and we never lost connection Heracleum is a compact site compared to Pompeii but has many artefacts that didn't survive the eruption in Pompeii I recommend the tour and you won't go wrong if you get Diego Micieli as your guide
Leone Luciano! Wow you were a brilliant guide! Thank you for introducing us to Herculaneum and showing us the treasures of this site. My daughters aged 11 and 15 were captivated for whole 2 hours.
Tour guide was excellent. The group was larger than I expected with around 20 participants. Other people also stopped to listen to her because her descriptions were so interesting. It made it a little challenging to move around and see the different features.
The guide was outstanding and made the tour a valued experience.
Great experience with knowledgable guide
Luciano was amazing! Great experience with a guide who loves what they do! Highly recommend!
Fantastic day with Archeologist Luciano Leone. Luciano was fun and extremely passionate and knowledgeable and showed us the best of the pick in two hours. It was wonderful to have insider knowledge of the town and the excavation works. I feel I want to go back and spend more time there armed with the information I have. Luciano was so interesting - full marks.
Frederica was very informative, offering some interesting facts and anecdotes. Don’t miss Herculaneum it’s a gem!
Well organised. Easy to find the Askos agent. The guide was very knowledgeable. Went in Oct. No crowds
Herculaneum is a fascinating site – it's easy to spend a day there. This guided tour packed in so many of the highlights and provided an excellent basis for further exploration. Some of our group had booked a pick-up as soon as the tour was finished - don't do that unless you have to. Give yourself time to visit the on-site museum and to explore a little further.
Luciano was a great guide. Funny, enthusiastic, informative. One negative: we had 22 people in our group. That’s too many. Sometimes we had cram into spaces and couldn’t see all the details of a feature. This tour requires good mobility to go up and down steps, walk on uneven surface, climb hills, etc.
Wonderful small group tour by an extremely knowledgeable guide called Sarah and led at a really good pace! Great value for money!
We had today a fantastic visit to Hercolaneum! Our guide Luciano Leone is immensely knowledgeable but also extremely funny; the two hours seemed like two minutes, so enjoyable was the visit. HIGHLY recommended!
Herculaneum was great and our guide was very knowledgeable. It was incredibly interesting to visit the day after Pompeii. They are very different and I found Herculaneum to be even more interesting. My only concern (and why I knocked a star off) was that the group was by no means “small.” I am guessing we had close to two dozen people which was just too many people for the tour.
The tour guide was good knowledgeable, and told you a lot about everything i would highly recommend this tour
Exceptional experience for all the family. We learnt so much history. Loved!!!!
Very entertaining and enthiastic guide. Very knowledgeable. Really enjoyed seeing this site. Made me feel like I was going back in time .
Unbelievable, wow! Can’t wait to return. Picture guide Vincenzo was the best! A must see. Easy to navigate!
The tour was slow paced with extensive commentary. We didn’t see as much of Herculaneum as I would have liked and didn’t have time after to visit other locations, like the docks, before our ride back to the train station. Not the fault of the tour, but I was disappointed that most of the artifacts had been moved to museums. Only the structures remained along with remnants of frescoes on the walls.
What an amazing tour. Our guide, Luciano, was incredibly knowledgeable and super funny to boot. The tour has got to be one of the most comprehensive we've done on our travels. We learned about the history of the town, the science of the volcanic preservation, and the timeline of archaeology at the site, complete with physical and pictorial demonstrations. Recommend to anyone deeply fascinated by sites like these, and anyone with a passing interest who wants to become so!
We were 30 minutes late due to cancellation of train. However Viator tour organised a separate tour for us. Our guide was very informative and provided us with a thorough insight into the history of Herculanum.
Somewhat crowded, but great tour guide. He was very interesting and actually the information he gave us was helpful In Pompeii
If you are deciding between Pompeii and Herculaneum, do not miss Herculaneum—and make sure you do it with a guide! Exploring this remarkably preserved ancient city was an absolute highlight of our trip, and having an expert guide made all the difference. Because Herculaneum was buried by volcanic mud rather than ash, the level of detail is astonishing. Seeing original wooden beams, two-story houses, intricate mosaics, and even carbonized furniture intact after nearly 2,000 years felt completely surreal. It is much more intimate and remarkably well-preserved than Pompeii. What truly elevated the entire experience was our phenomenal guide. Their depth of knowledge, passion, and storytelling ability brought the ancient streets to life. Instead of just looking at ruins, we understood the daily lives, culture, and tragic final moments of the people who lived here. Every question we had was answered with incredible detail and enthusiasm, and they navigated us perfectly through the site to highlight the absolute best preserved spots. This tour was deeply fascinating, educational, and moving. I cannot recommend visiting Herculaneum with a knowledgeable guide enough
Great experience seeing the highlights and hearing details about the site. Luciano Leone was very informative, passionate, and entertaining.
Excellent tour because of our AMAZING guide Luciano Leone. One of the best tour guides I have ever had! I travel a lot and he is the guide you want to have! Luciano is passionate about his studies and it’s reflected in the tour. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate. Not only that but he’s is very funny and kind. The tour with Luciano was exemplary!!!
I missed my earlier spot, due to being late, so I thought I would go down to see if I could join another tour group, which i was able to, which is very good of the tour operators. We had a very knowledgeable, funny & interesting guide, Luciano Leone, who was full of passion about the subject. If you go there, try & get on his tour of Herculaneum. Unlike Pompeii, the tour can cover this site in 2 hours. But I still recommend going around yourself, after the guided tour has finished. It is easier to walk around Herculaneum compared to Pompeii, which has a more uneven surface. Definitely go to both sites, both equally interesting.
An absolutely fantastic tour of Herculaneum with Luciano Leone at Askos Tours! It is such an incredible place, and so well preserved, in fact many buildings are much better preserved than at the much bigger Pompeii site! Luciano is an incredible guide, a fountain of knowledge and all presented with relentless enthusiasm, showering us with fascinating details and fact about the site and its history , and injecting a little humour here and there along the way! Couldn’t recommend any more highly - a fabulous tour!
We had a lovely tour with Luciano Leone an amzing archeologist who was both educational and entertaining. We were able to see all the highlights while learning about fun hidden details. 100% recommend this tour of Herculaneum!
Very Knowledgeable archaeologist guide. Value for money. Would suggest doing the tor separate from the Pompeii tri - as easier on the legs! Where comfy shoes !
Very much liked that when the tour ended you could still go explore the site on your own. The museum was quick but very worthwhile. So consider the tour an introductory orientation then spend some more time satisfying your interests. Sara was a fantastic guide.
We had the great pleasure of having Luciano Leone as our guide. His passion and knowledge of the site is second to none, he lives and breathes the place and adds excellent humour along the way. He packed a hell of a lot into the 2 hours, would highly recommend.
A perfect amount of time to spend viewing Ercolano. Gennaro was an amazing guide and you could tell that he has a true passion for the history. He showed us all of his favorite parts of the site, and answered any question that someone may have had. Thanks Gennaro!
Luciano Leone was great. The guide was knowledgeable and really gave good insight. Would recommend..
Unfortunately we ended up with not enough time to do this tour Travel guide was very helpful, and suggested we do it on our own and supplied entry tickets What an amazing site, even without the guide We would recommend Heraculeum and Viator to anyone
Our guide Luciano Leone was fantastic, very knowledgeable of all the sites and passionate about the history of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Highly recommend!
Luciano was very informative, funny, and interesting. As he has been involved in excavations here and Pompeii, it was fascinating to get an inside perspective.
Great tour that came to life for us with experienced passionate guide Luciano Leone. Highly recommend
Our guide did a wonderful job of bringing the story of Herculaneum to life. A full two hour tour, our one at Pompeii (by another company) was only 1.5 hrs). I highly recommend Askos 😎👍
