Fantastic to have a guide who had actually worked on the ruins as an archaeologist. Luciano was a fountain of knowledge and brought the ruins to life.

An ideal way to explore the city of Ercolano. Worth doing in addition to Pompeii to or from the Amalfi coast. Excellent guide in Francesco navigated the site, unravelling the secrets and avoiding the Italian school groups with aplomb. A quick overview of the artefacts in the museum was well worth the detour. Recommended.
Our Guide, Enzo was very knowlegeable about Herculaneum. He was charming and very pleasant to spend our time with. He brought Herculaneum the place and its people to life for us.
Great guide, Luciano. We learned a lot in a very short time. He gave such interesting insight and narrative.
We had a fantastic tour of the Herculaneum. Our guide, Anaelle, was an amazing guide! She was very knowledgeable, energetic and passionate and made history come alive with her way of speaking and explaining about everything. We really enjoyed the tour a lot and highly recommend it. Thank you.
We only had a couple of hours dedicated to Herculaneum and we decided to book a guide to make the most out of our visit. It’s safe to say our goal was reached and then some! Roberta was a fantastic guide. In addition to showing us the most significant locations on the site, she managed to weave the narrative brilliantly of what Herculaneum was, what happened to it and the history of all the archeological work done on the site. She answered all our questions and curiosities. Our visit would have been a significantly lesser experience without her guidance and we are very grateful for it!
Take lots of water, wear comfortable shoes! The history and sights in Herculaneum were amazing. To think about what those people went through is heartbreaking. They were leading such rich lives.
I was in a small group tour with Luigi - this was the second time I took his personal tour. So interesting! Luigi is so knowledgeable and knows all the little tidbits to make a memorable time.
Rosa was an excellent guide and the private tour was brilliant. She was extremely knowledgeable and made it so interesting.
Our visit to Herculaneum was hugely enhanced by Luciano's knowledgeable, insightful and witty interpretation. Our family group of six had widely different levels of prior knowledge but we all felt we gained greatly and everyone felt included. Despite his protestations to the contrary, his English was excellent and he had no issues communicating the intricacies of current archaeological thinking on the events of AD79 or handling our questions. His trusty folder of illustrations, plans, maps and other resources were used to help explain what we were seeing on the ground. We booked direct on his website and our booking was quickly followed up with friendly pre-trip communication. On the day there was clear communication and we met up outside the ticket office without any problems. Clearly booking someone's time for a solid three hours comes at a price but we all felt it was money well spent to benefit from his knowledge and sheer enthusiasm.
Our guide was Roberta. She was wonderful and made our experience great. I would highly recommend a professional quide such as her. Her knowledge and attention to detail made the experience totally enjoyable.
Very informative, great guide, all we could wish for. 2 hours and a lot of new historical details and knowledge.
Extremely interesting, The tour was laid out with particular areas to visit and you feel and see so much over the 2 hours with Francesco.
The tour was very enlightening to the events as they unfolded from earthquakes to the volcano, and how Herculean event was different to Pompeii. Further, the tour gave us insight to how the city functioned two thousand years ago.
Throughout our small group tour Luciano provided us with such clear explanations about Herculaneum and why the site is so well preserved. He brought to light some tiny details that told the story of society at Herculaneum prior to the volcanic eruptions. We are not normally that interested in archaeology however this tour is so insightful we would recommend to everyone. Thank you Luciano, this tour was very special and not to be missed.
What a gem! Herculaneum is not to be missed if you want to see a well preserved city over 2000 years old. Luciano was a very knowledgeable and interesting tour guide/archaeologist and we highly recommend this tour.
Luciano was a fabulous guide! He provided a tailored and accessible tour for dad and I (73 and 39 years old). We learned much...including hidden gems.
Herculaneum, Pompeii and the National Archeological Museum in Naples,Ed were the focus of our trip to Italy. To maximize our experience we planned on private guides at each location. Our first visit was to Herculaneum and our guide provided a fabulous two hour tour. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic and an excellent command of English. She was the perfect way to start our in-depth exploration.
A wonderful tour of the most preserved ruins of a seaside Roman resort town of the first century that was destroyed in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The archeologists have provided the excavated ruins and our guide, Mena, provided an interesting, knowledgeable, and entertaining tour that put a human face on the impressively preserved houses, stores, and public baths.
Mena was incredible. She explained various sites with an obvious deep understanding . When you book a tour try to get Mena
Roberta was lovely and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our tour very much but she is not actually an archeologist. I would not have paid so much for a private tour with an excellent tour guide (who I she is). So I recommend Roberta as a guide but I do not recommend booking the “tour with an archeologist.”
Daniela was a very knowledgable historian and guide who really elevated the experience. Highly recommended, a highlight of our trip to Italy.
We had a terrible tour today. The guide did not really know anything, she was definitely not an archaeologist. She took us into a room and said things like “wow look at the red wall.” She couldn’t understand our questions in English. She also finished the tour after 1.5hours even though we had paid for 2hours. Definitely do not use - a total waste of money. We would have learnt more without her.
It was extremely interesting and informative and our guide was incredible. She made it extra special
Our guide, Francesca, was amazing. We visisted Herculanum, which was in itself a besutiful and moving experience. But Fancisca made it even more. We went with 2 grandchildren, 15 years, who asked lots of questions, and as they said:Francisca could answer every one of them! She is a modt knowlegable and pleasant person who gave much more if herself than anyone could expext. Thank you for a memorable experience!
We had heard this was a tour to take if you wanted to see more artifacts and preserved architecture, it did not disappoint. Also, our tour guide (Laura) did a great job. It was obvious she appreciates the site and conveyed that during the tour.
Excellent tour. Lucio was informative, friendly, and humorous. I enjoyed the experience very much. Highly recommend.
It’s almost magical to walk the streets of this 2000 year old city. With Michele, an archeologist, as our guide, we learned in great detail, the everyday life of these ancient citizens. I highly recommend a guide, as he unlocks secrets that you’d never imagine. Michele Lamberti made the excavated city come alive!
Everything was perfect and planned as expected. We really enjoyed it. I highly recommend this activity.
Very informative and enjoyable experience . Highly recommend Mena was an excellent guide . Thank you
Great private tour with Roberta. It was so nice to walk around the site and be told the history of it. All of us said that it is so much nicer to do a private one. We did ours in April at around 11.30. We left around 3pm and there was a queue for entry so an early visit would be a good idea.
Luciano Leone was very knowledgeable, entertaining and incredibly engaging. A wonderful tour guide, thank you for sharing your extensive experiences of Herculaneum yesterday
Vincenzo was fantastic. His explanations and historical knowledge were clear and relevant in every building we entered. Having a private guide totally enriched the experience.
We were lucky enough to be given the guide Luciano Leone through Get Your Guide, Askos Tours and it was a great experience. He gave a very great account of what happened at Herculaneum and really brought it to life with his enthusiasm and humour. The two hours went so quickly and we were disappointed when we realised it was the end of the tour. Herculaneum is extremely well preserved and not too big so you can see more or less everything as an overview and it wasn’t too crowded in the afternoon after the tour. We also had a lovely rest in the shady garden sitting in the deck chairs provided. Highly recommended! We caught the train there and back from Sorrento.
Fantastic, Giuseppe was a really knowledge guide, showed us all the best parts of the archaeological site. Very considerate of someone with limited mobility.
My husband and I highly recommend going to Herculaneum with a guide, especially if that guide is Lorenzo! Without his knowledge and enthusiasm our experience would have been flat and bland. It was more than worth the money to have someone share more than just the facts but the emotional experiences of the people at the time. It was amazing how preserved some of the art, buildings and remains were (though those were just replicas thankfully). The views of Vesuvio were awe-inspiring as it loomed over the town. The trip over from Napoli was easy via the Metro to the Circumvesuviana. We had lunch in Ercolano on our way back to Napoli which was just as awesome, like all the food in the region!
We had a profound experience on the private tour with Ionica! She did an amazing job of putting the story of Herculaneum into a context that makes the devastation and discovery relatable from the perspective of a local with ties to the community surrounding the site. The complicated history through the ages all makes sense and is relevant to today. She also did a great job relating to us as Americans. We discovered lessons woven into the history for our shared future caring for historical sites, respecting cultures, and making informed decisions as stewards of this planet. We also saw everything with a comfortable pace! We loved hearing about the contrast of the ancient to the modern surrounding area. Also the ongoing excavation and care of the site.
Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by the AD 79 eruption of Mt. Vesuvius that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum. The latter has been of particular interest to me and it was a dream come true to tour the excavated portions of the city with Luciano Leone via ASKOS Tours. The ancient beach, only recently made accessible to the general public, was a special and solemn thrill to see. Dr. Leone was engaging and highly knowledgeable. I’d highly recommend him for any visitor, both those who are new to Herculaneum and those who have studied it prior to the tour. Whatever your level of knowledge, you’ll gain new insights and walk away sharing Dr. Leone’s fascination with this incredible place.
Luca was the best tour guide we have ever had! His love and knowledge of the area and history shown through the entire time. Highly recommended!
Brilliant guide and learned a huge amount about the site. Excellent would recommend. Guide was friendly and punctual
Jasmine was great. Very enthusiastic and charming. Very knowledgeable on the history of Herculaneum. She brought us through showing her favorite highlights. It was a great experience and we learned a lot.
Excellent guide. Well structured tour. All aspects are explained in a broader context. Lots of background information. Eye for detail. Comparisons are made with Pompei.
My tour with Sara was excellent. I highly recommend this offer. My professor/guide, Sara had a deep knowledge of the site. I have some knowledge of late Roman history but less of the early period. She was able to explain the site to me at the high level and basic level. Excellent experience. If you visit in summer take the early tour as I did. By noon it is very hot. Great experience. Five stars.
Our Herculaneum tour was one of the best parts of our trip, thanks to our amazing and knowledgeable tour guide, Dr. Luciano Leone. We love historical tours and he's the best guide we've ever had. Luciano made the tour educational, exciting, and fun - we felt like we went back into history. We'd highly recommend Luciano for anyone visiting Herculaneum or Pompeii -- he was the highlight of our tour and we left with a deeper appreciation of the place and history. Thank you for a wonderful time!
Luciano Leone delivered the best guided tour I have ever experienced. With his energy and enthusiasm, he literally captivated our group of international friends. The connections he made between past history and nowadays were very clear and easy to understand.
We received the contact details for our guide as planned, which was good, as due to a train delay we were late arriving. The guide was very understanding and waited. The tour itself was just what I wanted. We got a good insight into Herculaneum, its origins and some of the more important areas. All the time the information was at a really good level, detailed but maintained our interest! Giulia’s expertise was apparent and her English was excellent. I would definitely recommend.
Giulio was extremely knowledgeable, patient and friendly in displaying and explaining the history and details of events, artifacts and cultures. I recommend this tour. Read a bit beforehand and it will be even better.
Herculaneum is a fascinating place to visit and was made even better with Anna our hugely knowledgable and engaging guide. Anna being an experienced Archaeologist brought the ruins to life and explained the tragedy following the eruption of Vesuvius. We were glad we visited Herculaneum as well as Pompeii, it is much smaller but with some unique features and it feels a more intimate experience.
We had a wonderful private tour of Herculaneum with tour guide Sara. She is an archaeologist with a deep knowledge of both Herculaneum and Pompeii and a clear love and passion for these awesome ruins. She was full of interesting facts and pointed out lots of things that we would easily have missed. We would highly recommend her!
This was the trip of a lifetime for me and a special experience for my adult grandson. We both have read quite a bit about Herculaneum, Pompeii, and the Roman Empire, and it was thrilling to see Herculaneum for ourselves. Our guide was both gracious and informative. At the end of our tour we were allowed to wander a bit by ourselves and to visit the two nearby museums.
