Amazing underground attraction with lots of history. The tunnel here was supposed to be a car tunnel but was not completed, however they are also Greek quarries here which were later used as WW2 bunkers. Its a 50 minute tour and the tour guide was great. The highlight for me was the abandoned vehicles. There are 3 entrances for the underground attraction and unfortunately the attraction is only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday so juggle your days wisely to visit. It costs 15 euros which I think is great value for money.

Galleria Borbonica is situated in Vico del Grottone 4, 100 meters from Plebiscito Square. Until a few years ago it was a veterinary laboratory, now this is the entrance of the Bourbon Tunnel. A staircase with 8 ramps, 33 yards deep descending into the belly of the Chiaia district in Naples. The second entry is in Via Domenico Morelli 40, through the crosswalk of 'Quick parking'. The Bourbon Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of a rebellion, asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli. The work was however not completed and, during the second World War, the Tunnel was used by residents of the area as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil.

Absolutely horrible. Difficult to understand the guide. Far too many people on the tour, at least 40 people. Impossible to hear for the whole group. Long stops with long descriptions. Maybe interesting content, but did only understand maybe 10 %.
Great experience, really recommand, you learn the history of region in the interesting way from under- ground. Loved it
Extremely interesting large cavernous tunnels/bunkers under the city of Naples multiple uses over the years fascinating history
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour of underground Naples. Guide clear and informative and made the visit enjoyable.
Very informative tour. The guide explained and gave a background on the history of the underground and all the items that had been preserved there. Worth it.
Roberto was professional n informative. He answered all our questions, lovely Guide. Recommend this tour.
Very knowledgeable guide. It takes you back in time for sure. The only issue was the group was too big.
Excellent tour, our guide (a young woman leading the English speaking guide) was very knowledgeable and engaging.
I opted to take this tour instead of the other underground tours in Naples as it was related to more modern history (19th century and onwards). The tour touches upon different historical periods involving the tunnel, going from its construction and purpose, to it’s use as air raid shelters during WWII, and lastly as a deposit (the vintage car wrecks and Vespas). The tour guide was great, she’s clearly an expert on the matter but managed to bring it down to our level. I also appreciated her sense of humor and dry delivery very much. Just make sure to bring some warmer clothes, especially in the summer when Naples is very warm, as the tunnel is quite cool.
We had a really good Guide called Maria, she was very informative and tried to add a little humor where she could to what could otherwise have been quite a somber subject. I chose this particular set of tunnels as it was a reasonably short trip for those in my family who had to be 'persuaded' to join in and there might be aspects of it that appealed each of us, even if they didn't think that at the start! I loved hearing the history of the tunnels and that some of the people born down there are still around to tell their tales; my 20 yr old daughter really enjoyed the WWII aspects of it. I also really loved the old cars and bikes which have been dumped there, this part appealed to my car-mad 18 yr old son, particularly the part about the motorbikes having been modified illegally to go faster/make more noise etc. Hubby's knee replacement was not so keen on the 90 steps going down in, but you come out a different way so there aren't steps back up at the end, some parts are a little uneven underfoot but nothing too bad. It was also a nice, cool break from the heat of August. Something a little different that we haven't experienced before too, overall a nice afternoon!
A super tour with fascinating insights led by a really enthusiastic guide. Learned so much and was totally inspired by the whole tour.
...and it was well, pretty standard. It was somewhat interesting, but we were not awestruck. I may have researched it too much and previewed lots of pictures so it didn't really surprise me with anything I had not already seen in on-line pictures. Our guide had her canned script down pat and spoke good English, but her heavy accent made understanding a little hard for me at times. We took an afternoon tour so the cool temperature inside was a welcome relief from the heat outside. Ticket price was fair.
A fascinating glimpse into Naples history - from acqueduct to bomb shelter to a place to live. The guide was extremely knowledgeable of the tunnel's history and talked us through the different uses, including information about the families who inhabited it, Naples resistance against Italy's fascism regime and the tunnel built a king. Even if you've been on a subterranean tour, you will learn something new at the Galleria Borbonica. The team were also brilliant and rearranged our tour for another day following flight delays / cancellation. Really glad we had the opportunity to attend!
Fantastic experience for all ages. Went with 5 year old and 75 year old and all throughly enjoyed it. Guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and animated. Was a perfect respite from the mid summer heat.
The advertisement is misleading I wanted to go to the tour that was on the pictures but the guide told me we have ticket for another one. Meeting: good we made it at the sharp time because the group was leaving and we barely made it. The tour was not very interesting for me. Sorry.
Our guide did an amazing job. Great tour. I would highly recommend. It was very informative and entertaining.
So interesting, really enthusiastic guide added so much value. Well worth doing!
Highly recommend taking this tour. It was so interesting to learn about the history of Naples and its underground.
A lot of steps going down initially and walking at a leisurely pace. Not for claustrophobics but once in the tunnels , plenty of space.
Interesting history, impressive views and artifacts. A very unique way to experience part of Naples’ past. Also a great relief on a hot day.
Interesting experience, great to hide from the heatwave and get some historical information 🙂
Great tour on a very hot day. Wanted to do this tour for some time. It didn’t disappoint. Informational tour about how these tunnels ended up as they are. Fascinating. Tour in English with Martina really good.
Also called the Bourbon tunnel, this was an escape route during the world war 2. This place has a very interesting history, it is best to be opt for a guide, but be sure to check before hand about the availibility of an English speaking guide and of the tour timings. The underground tunnels have wonderful illustrations depicting history of the great city of Naples right up to the world war.
Entrance is hard to find, so look careful. The tour was great, I wish we would have done the one to hear more about the stories of those that lived through it. Lots of stairs and smaller so be prepared for that. We had about 40 walking through together
My family took a tour of the bomb shelter and we were amazed at the items they were able to salvage down there
My family of 4 did a vacation in June 2026 of Rome and the Amalfi coast. We ended up leaving back to the States via Naples International Airport. We only had a half day in Naples and this was the one tour we went on. It was nothing short of amazing! Our guide was excellent and all four of us thought the tour was great including my 21 and 15 year old. I would definitely recommend this tour if visiting Naples. There are about 90 stairs to walk down in the beginning and they were somewhat steep but have railings to hold onto so it wasn't hard. You end up leaving on ground level so the stairs down was the most difficult part. They did a great job of explaining what the tunnels were used for during different time periods and you really could get the feel for how they were used, especially for WWII bunkers. The younger ones loved all the abandoned cars and motorcycles. And they actually played the siren that would have sounded during the war! The tour lasted a little over and hour and was well worth it!
My husband and I had an incredible experience exploring the Galleria Borbonica. Since it was just the two of us, it felt like an exclusive, private tour, and it completely blew us away. Our guide, Davide, was phenomenal. His English was flawless and fluent, which made following the dense and fascinating history of the tunnels effortless. Not only was he exceptionally knowledgeable—answering all of our questions with ease—but he also brought the history to life with a fantastic sense of humor that kept us smiling and engaged the entire time. If you are visiting Naples, do not miss this tour, and absolutely ask for Davide if you can. It was worth every penny and easily one of the best highlights of our trip! Tip for future visitors: Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a light jacket, as it gets cool underground!
This was an amazing tour and, in my opinion, far better than the standard underground Naples tour in the city centre. Our guide was fantastic. She shared truly great (and sometimes funny!) stories and historical insights, presenting everything in a really engaging way making it super nice to listen and easy to remember. She had a lot of knowledge and answered all the questions as well. The museum itself is truly impressive. Learning about how the undergrounds were created and how they evolved over the centuries was super interesting to hear and it gave another perspective of Naples city (makes me like it even more!) There is also an adventure tour available, and after this experience, I would love to return to Naples just to try it. Highly recommended!
We booked our tickets online direct on their website before going to Naples to ensure we were booked on a tour. We booked a standard tour which started at 10am and our guide Sabrina was fantastic and we learnt alot about the history behind it. The tour lasted just over 1 hour and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Make sure you where closed shoes like trainers or similar and a light jacket/top as can be chilly down underground
It was a great tour. Many interesting facts if you like history. There are many different tours with different entrances so make sure you have the right 1. This tour seems like its in a whole nother world/part of Naples.
You have to be able to go down 90 steps to get into the tunnel and there are multiple other staircases from two to eight steps throughout. Apart from that, totally fascinating and well worth it. I am 70 and did it, cane and all! It was almost an hour and a half for the walking tour. We took the English version.
What an incredible experience exploring the underground world of Naples! Our tour of Via Dellwing Memorie was truly unforgettable. Sabrina was a wonderful guide—so engaging and passionate, she really brought the history to life as we explored the caves, bomb shelters, and the Bourbon Tunnel. It was such a unique way to experience Naples from a completely different perspective. There are quite a few steps, all going down so not to bad….but it’s absolutely worth it! It was our 2nd trip to Naples so we wanted to see it in a new way. A fun and memorable adventure—we loved it and highly recommend!
One of the most interesting things we did in Naples. The knowledge of the tour leader leading us thru centuries was amazing
This tour provided a fascinating overview of Naples’ history through the lens of the various phases of the tunnel’s construction. Our tour guide, Martina, was infectiously passionate. Highly recommend to anyone curious about the city’s history!
This was super neat to see. It was definitely a lot more information than we were expecting, but it was cool to learn the history behind it!
Well worth a visit, really interesting
Interesting place & well worth a visit. My guide was boring though - great English but felt like he was just reading from a script - not interactive at all like most guided tours.
Really good - I would recommend this 100%. Very atmospheric, opens up new areas of Neapolitan history beyond the ancient and the baroque. The walk was accessible, not at all claustrophobic with striking images throughout. Very good value for money. We had a superb English-speaking guide with great enthusiasm and knowledge - she brought the different aspects of history to life.
Very interesting visit to the underground. Our tour leader David was excellent. Amazing how this was created by man. A must do !
This was our third visit to Naples and I’d rate this the best tour we’ve ever done. Guide was fantastic and the caves are an astonishing monument to Naples’ resilience in World War Two. Don’t miss it.
Beware. They do not provide you with good directions. Took me an hour to find the place which is not easy to find even if you have the address. Rang the bell and knocked on the door and finally a very rude woman answers the door and starts yelling at us that the tour left. I told her how horrible their directions are. They would not refund either so this is one gigantic rip off. Avoid this.
Highly recommended tour packed with historical information about geology, history and culture. From cars to cradles, this tours has it all. You will not be disappointed.
Nice in depth tour of the underground tunnels used during WWII in Naples. I visited at a time when the English tour was not offered and therefore joined the tour in Italian. Although I did not always understand all parts of the tour, the information was still very interesting and nice to see how well things have been preserved. The tour I did includes some steep stairs, might be more difficult for people with mobility issues.
An interesting tour - note our entry/start point was different to our end/exit point so worth checking. Start point was fairly restricted so had to wait outside - no seating or facilities. A few steep narrow steps to start & then much easier as you go along. Our guide was very knowledgeable but her accent was fairly difficult to understand especially in some stops which were restricted in space. Was quite a large group so at times tge guide had started commentary before everyone was present. Narrow walkways or steps meant a quick walk was not always possible. Got to the end a little overtime so no real chance to explore the shop/museum. Must have been some local building work underwater as exit was through a public car park with limited signage. Very interesting history.
Easy booking/planning. Tour guide spoke perfect English and was very knowledgeable. Recommend to book this tour- insightful and informative 1hr long tour.
For anyone trying to decide Galleria Borbonica ou Napoli Sotteranea, don't even think twice. This one is the one to do. I've done both and this one was 1000x better. Not only the underground is much more interesting, but the guide was VERY knowledgeable, you could see she liked what she was doing and explained everything perfectly. Very interesting tour, very well worth the money. 5*
We had previously been to the other caves where the whole tour was awful with a dreadful guide. This tour and guide restored our faith. It was not only excellent value for money but our guide Adelaide was superb. Incredible English, knowledge and clearly highly interested in the tunnels and their history. If you only have time to do one tunnel tour then please make it Galleria Borbinica
A truly fasinating tour and Martina was an excellent guide. A great addition to our itinerary and I would have been tempted to do the other tours as well had they been available at a time we could make it! Restoring the tunnels is a terrific enterprise. Bravo
The tunnels were amazing and the cars/bikes we came across too. Steep twisty steps down (about 90) not for the faint hearted. Tour guide was brilliant and very informative. Would recommend trip
