Our Best of Amalfi Coast & Pompeii: Exclusive Private Day Experience was truly the highlight of our trip! Mario, our knowledgeable and accommodating tour operator and Pompeii guide, was wonderful. He graciously granted our last-minute request to add a family member to our private tour, which was originally booked for three. His communication was clear and detailed, especially regarding the pickup arrangements. Eugene was an excellent driver—funny, friendly, and safe. Our Mercedes van was comfortable and spotless. Following Mario’s recommendation to depart at 7:30 AM helped us avoid heavy traffic and return promptly to our cruise ship at Napoli port by 3:30 PM. We had time to shop, grab snacks, and enjoy lunch in beautiful Positano and Sorrento. The additional fee for a guided tour of Pompeii was absolutely worth it! We highly recommend Mario and Eugene to anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, especially cruise passengers. They were professional and well organized, and the experience was unforgettable from start to finish!!

Eugenio likes to call himself the mayor of Amalfi. It's true! He's a great guide who knows all the shortcuts and will deliver on history, politics, breakfast and lunch recommendations and scenery. Ravello was my personal favorite town, with the BEST pastries! I recommend starting the tour, the earlier in the morning the better, to get out in front of the masses of people.

What a great experience! First, the communication from the operator was very good which made it very easy to meet up just outside the cruise terminal. The stops at Positano, Amari Coast, Sorento and Pompeii were all fantastic. The difference maker were our hosts. Our driver, Adriano, was amazing. He was kind, funny and very knowledgeable. The company owner, Mario, was our guide inside Pompeii. He is third generation of family who have worked at this site and his passion is contagious. This was a fantastic tour and our group thoroughly enjoyed every minute!

Eugenio is a fantastic tour guide. He is full of historical information and has a wonderful personality. He recommended where we eat lunch and dinner, and his suggestions were perfect. Pompeii was incredible to see, and Eugenio made is more special by organizing a private guide for the site.

What an amazing day we had on this private experience to Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. Marco took care of us from the moment he met us, working in stops for coffee, keeping us on a good time schedule for the day, and recommending the best lunch spot! We never would have been able to fit in as much as we did if we didnt do a private outting for the day. Once we got to Pompeii, Salvatore was our guide and helped make a huuuuge experience managable and added in the story telling to go with the incredible ruins. I cant recommend a guide enough here, there's too much to take in on your own. This was our splurge for our trip and it was well worth it. No regrets! Book this if you want a local guiding you and making your day perfect! We learned so much... thank you Marco and Salvatore!

Eugene picked us up from the Naples ship dock and spent the full day with us. He drove us through his hometown of Naples on our way to Sorento. We pulled into a pullout and took some roadside pictures of the beautiful Sorento coastline, and then headed directly to Positano. Eugene discussed what we were seeing along the way, and shared insights and fun stories the whole day. We spent one hour sightseeing in Positano in the hectic, scenic alleys and streets. If you can, I would advise to spend even longer there. It is very busy and yes, touristy, but still iconically lovely. I wish we could have stayed longer, but we knew we had other places that we wanted to visit also. My husband gave Positano a 9 on a scale of 10 for its quaint beauty. Next we went back to Sorento. Again we had one free hour there also. It is also charming, but larger than Positano. We shopped, and grabbed takeaway pizza from a street side shop where we watched the two guys make the pizzas through a cut out door. We ate the pizza in the car on our way to Pompeii. My husband gave Sorento a score of 7 on a scale of 10. At Pompeii we had opted for the guided tour. Salvatore was our guide. He absolutely took the guess work out of exploring the huge site, and took us to the best places, explaining as he went along. He also took pictures for us, which was kind. Pompeii was far larger and had more ruins than I thought it would. Eugene then drove us back to Naples. We finished exactly on time to get back to the ship with about 30 minutes to spare. A full day, but Eugene and Salvatore helped us get as much out of our limited time as possible. I strongly recommend this trip. If you have a longer day, try to spend longer than one hour in both Positano and Sorento. I don't think you'll be sorry.

Do not hesitate to book this trip! Mario was excellent with communication from start to finish and took care of every detail for us, including detailed instructions for meeting up with our driver and skip the line tickets to Pompeii with an amazing private tour guide, Giovanna. She was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a 1:1 tour of the ruins of Pompeii. Eugene was our driver and tour guide for the day. He was very personable and explained so much to us about the culture, history and geography of the region (and also made superb recommendations for lunch!!). After an unforgettable day, we were returned to our ship with time to spare. Highly recommend!

One of the best tour experiences. We booked this same tour last year - the only difference is that we went to Herculaneum instead of Pompeii - and it was so good that we said to our travel agent, "I want the same company. Same tour guide. Same guide for Pompeii. Don't even look at anyone else." Our tour guide, Giovanni was fantastic. He stopped for coffee and pastries at Sal De Riso - highly recommend this place, it was exceptional. Our favorite was the Limoncello Granita, you'll see it in one of the photos. It was outstanding. He also took us to many wonderful spots for photos (along with a bit of history). We told him we wanted pizza for lunch (Naples is supposed to have the best, right?) and he took us to a wonderful little place near Pompeii named Ventuno Grammi where the food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. For the 5 of us, between food and drinks I think we spent 100 Euros. Marcello, our tour guide in Pompeii did the same fantastic job that he did the year before in Herculaneum. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the tour, pointing out many items that we otherwise would have missed and made sure we stayed interested and engaged during the entire 2 hour tour. The vehicle they used was comfortable and the air conditioning worked VERY well in the 98 degree Italian heat. If you're going to Naples (whether you go to the port in Naples or the one in Salerno) I can't recommend this company enough. They will always be the first choice on our list when we visit there.

Wonderful experience. Diego knew exactly how to help plan our day. We were looking to do specific things and weather was a concern. The way he planned it worked perfectly. Great restaurant overlooking Sorrento was delicious and beautiful. The drive was so beautiful. Great guide Giovanna In Pompeii. She was so great and knowledgeable. Took us to have lemon sorbet after our tour and it was a great day with her.

This tour is excellent in every way. Eye opening scenery as well as great historical information. Giovanni, our tour guide, was very personable and packed with interesting information and helpful directions to several great shopping sights. Vito was amazing as our guide to Pompei ruins. Don’t waste time with other tours as Ciro was just amazing. This tour is a must. The price you pay is 100% wort it.

Antonio was our driver and he was fantastic! He was on time to pick us up and clear signage to find him. He was kind and drove very carefully through the weaving hills. He also answered every question we had and told us fun facts as we drove. Our third stop was in Pompeii w Chiro as our tour guide. He was a 4th generation Pomeiian. He was so knowledgeable, funny and engaging. He kept everyone’s interest and was so passionate. I would highly recommend them both for your next trip to Naples!

We booked a full day with Visit Amalfi Coast for our multi-generational group of 14, including kids, while in port on a cruise, and it was superb from start to finish. Our friendly drivers Maria and Max picked us up at the port and took us to Pompeii, where we were handed over to our expert guide Salvatore (Sal) Sammarco. Sal gave us a two hour private tour tailored perfectly to our group, with an engaging and honest account of Pompeii's history. He patiently answered our many questions and happily posed for plenty of photos. From there we headed to Sorrento to explore the historic centre, followed by a pizza making class at the beautiful Antico Frantoio cooking school, with stunning views over the coast. The 14 pizzas we made were probably the best any of us have ever had, and the starter, dessert, and drinks rounded it off perfectly. We were back at the cruise port with plenty of time to spare. The whole day ran seamlessly. We'd highly recommend Visit Amalfi Coast to anyone, especially larger family groups.

What an absolutely fabulous experience! From the start, they were excellent communicators, helpful and informative. They found us a great guide in Pompeii (well worth the extra $$), and knew when to start so we could beat some of the heat and crowds. We had a large group (14) which they managed seamlessly. 100% recommend this group and tour.

Our private tour through Positano, Sorrento and Napoli with Eugene was, without question, the best tour of our entire vacation. From the moment he picked us up at the port, we felt less like guests on a private tour and more like family members being welcomed by someone who was excited to share his home with us. His genuine love for the region, combined with his incredible storytelling and infectious personality, made every moment of the tour engaging and memorable. One of the many highlights of our day was Eugene’s recommendation to visit Ventuno Grammi – Anima in Cucina, where we enjoyed an authentic Italian lunch and had the opportunity to meet the owner. It was another example of how Eugene went beyond the typical tourist experience and introduced us to the true heart, flavors and hospitality of the region. As we traveled through Positano, Sorrento and Napoli, Eugene knew the best viewpoints, the hidden gems and the perfect moments to stop and take in the beauty around us. His knowledge was impressive but what made the experience truly special was the way he connected with us as people. By the end of the tour, Eugene wasn’t just our guide he was someone we were grateful to have met. His nickname, “The Mayor,” could not be more fitting because he has a way of making everyone feel welcomed and connected. We cannot recommend Eugene highly enough. If you are looking for a private tour guide who provides more than just information, someone who shares his heart, passion and personality while creating an unforgettable experience, Eugene is the person you want. We really enjoyed the tour with Max and Marco. It was relaxing, because we never had the feeling of having to rush. It was easy to converse with both of them. They took us to great sites and provided great restaurant recommendations. In the end, it was like traveling with friends.

We were throughly excited to be able to see see the Amalphi coast. Max was able to give us details that we know we would not have received from any other host. He also was able to give us personalized information about his hometown Sorrento. We were able to dip our toes in the beach and visited some amazing shops in Positano. We enjoyed the challenge from Max to try all the lemoncello in every place that we went. The private tour at Pompeii with Enzo was very enlightening. He was able to show us special details about Pompeii that we know we would not have received or been able to find out on our own. We are very happy with our experience and we hope to return one day.

We had an amazing day with Diego and Eugene. They are so proud to show you the area Napoli and Amalfi and you can feel it with their stories and their knowledge. They navigated the streets with the ease that only a local can do and put us in the best areas to get out, walk around and experience the villages and towns. My mother is still recovering from a broken hip and they took such great care to make sure she was able to enjoy the area as much as everyone else. They arranged an incredible meal overlooking Sorento and then also secured a guide for Pompeii that was so good at making the kids appreciate the experience. Would recommend to anyone and will be reaching back out to them whenever we get back

The Amalfi Coast is one of those rare places that truly deserves its worldwide reputation. Every turn along the coastline reveals breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, with colorful towns cascading down the cliffs, each offering its own unique character and charm. We spent several days exploring the area, from small cafés to family-owned restaurants, every meal was memorable. One word of advice: if you’re planning to rent a car, be prepared. Driving the narrow, winding cliffside roads can be nerve-racking, especially during the busy season. While it gave us the flexibility to explore at our own pace, there were definitely a few stressful moments. If you’re not comfortable with mountain or coastal driving, consider using the ferries or local transportation instead. Amalfi was one of the highlights of our trip. Its picturesque streets, vibrant shops, inviting cafés, and beautiful waterfront create the perfect atmosphere for wandering without an agenda. Every corner seemed to offer another postcard-worthy view. This was an unforgettable experience, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Amalfi Coast to anyone visiting Italy. It’s a destination that exceeded our expectations and left us already

Wow, where to begin... Adriono was the best ever tour guide. He took us everywhere we wanted to go, his knowledge, flexibility and willingness to take us anywhere we wanted to go was off the charts. This tour is a must if you are going to Naples. This company was extremely easy to work with and very accommodating.

We had a wonderful experience on our tour to Amalfi Coast and Pompeii! Eugenio was a wonderful guide and very skilled driver! He knew of all the best places to stop for pictures, views, food, etc. He even took pictures for us! We had plenty of time at each stop to get out and explore or grab a snack. It was a perfect way to see all the different cities in a fairly short amount of time. We would highly recommend Eugenio and taking this tour!

Eugene was very knowledgeable and flexible! They changed the route to accomplish what we wanted. Very nice!

I am leaving mixed reviews: We did not connect with the guide until 25 min. after our designated time to meet. He was not standing in the area where the other guides were, only nearby, so although we kept looking for him, we could not find him. He did send a picture of himself so we could identify him via Whatsapp but I did not get the message until after we left the cruise ship (at which point I did not have internet connection). Also, when we did connect with him, the signage on the tablet was dark so I wasn't able to see my name. Although this private tour included an hour in Positano, we were only allowed to view it from above. The reason given was that there was construction there and it would take a 1/2 hour to walk down to the town (walk down????). This was disappointing and I felt we should have been told ahead of time about that development. The guide himself was personable and did stop at places along the Amalfi Coast for breathtaking pictures. He talked about Napoli which was engaging and informative. We had also paid extra for a different private guide at Pompeii which was fantastic which made up for the earlier debacles. For the cost of this tour, I can only give a 3 star review based on the above events.

It was excellent! The Amalfi Coast was stunning, Postino was amazing, and Max was very knowledgeable and personable. We also appreciated Mario's help arranging skip the line tickets for Pompeii, and a private guide. Everything was amazing, and made our family trip a memorable day! :)

Diego was an amazing host, and it was a perfect day! He planned our visits to maximize our time so we could get the most out of our day trip from Rome. He gave us history and funny stories on our drive to the coast. He stopped in ideal locations for pictures and then gave us recommendations for sights and food in both Positano and Sorrento. Then he had an amazing guide set up for us in Pompeii. Finally, he delivered us safely back to the train station and even had a gift bag of Amalfi Coast treats. Book this trip - you will love it!

Where do I even begin? My parents and I had such an incredible experience through the team at VisitAmalfiCoast! Back in 2022, my parents had taken a tour through this company and had returned speaking very highly of their guide Mario. Now in 2026, I was able to travel with them, and they insisted on booking with VisitAmalfiCoast once again. This time we had the pleasure of having Alex and Mario as our guides! From the beginning, Alex always picked us up on time, and is a fantastic driver, guide, and overall person. :) He explained so much detail of the towns and culture of the Amalfi Coast and was able to take us through several areas to explore before the crazy amount of buses of tourists had arrived (it helps to leave early and also have a skilled driver like Alex!). We were able to stop for shopping, food, and scenic photos on our way to Pompeii; and the entire time, Alex provided us with such rich information about each area we visited and also made us laugh with his great sense of humor. When we arrived at Pompeii, Mario gave a very detailed, informative, and incredibly intriguing tour of a great section of Pompeii (2-3 hours is definitely not enough time to spend in Pompeii, so if you want to see all of it, plan for at least two days there!). Mario was always open to questions, and he knows his history very well! I can see why he made such an impression on my parents with his enthusiasm for his country and specifically for the city of Pompeii. I highly recommend booking with VisitAmalfiCoast—you can tell that the team love what they do, and the price is reasonable for the quality they provide! When I return to Italy someday with friends, I will definitely book with them, and also hope to have Alex and Mario as our guides once again!

Marco our driver was fantastic. Our trip was great and we were able to get in everything we wanted to do and made it stress free, even if the roads and motorbikes were a little stressful.

We were greeted promptly at 7:45am and escorted through the beautiful landscape of the Amalfi Coast and smaller towns to reach Pompeii. Max was informative, eager to answer questions and kept our safety on the roads a priority. We had booked a private tour through Pompeii with Mario and he exceeded our expectations. His passion and enthusiasm was contagious. Mario’s knowledge and eagerness to share it was priceless. With Mario and Max’s assistance we wandered through Revelo, ate homemade pasta made by Nonna and had the most delicious pastries. We can’t wait to go back!!

We had a truly perfect day in Amalfi! We were on a cruise so only had one day in the port of Naples and wanted to make the most of it. Boy did we! Thanks to Diego! Communication before our trip and meeting place was excellent! His van was very nice and comfortable. Diego was able to help us customize our day and very accommodating for my husband that walks with a cane. We decided on a beautiful drive to Positano for the spectacular views and picture moment, then onward to Sorrento where we enjoyed the town for shopping and a bite to eat. We then traveled to Pompeii where he arranged for his colleague Mario to meet us for a private whirlwind tour of what was an incredible site to see and a step into history. We stopped along the way at a lovely non-tourist restaurant for a delicious lunch. All that and back to port in perfect timing to be back on board our cruise. It was perfect! No tour bus, no group tours with a guide carting a flag just an individual experience we will never forget. Thank you Diego! We will recommend to all our friends and family and look forward to coming back!

Our group of four had a fabulous day along the Amalfi Coast with Mario. He met us at the cruise terminal and customized our itinerary to minimize time in traffic, which we greatly appreciated. Mario has a relaxed, easy-going style and communicates very well. He is also extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the area. He went into wonderful detail about Herculaneum, which turned out to be a perfect alternative to Pompeii. Once again, we avoided the massive crowds by following this itinerary. All in all, the day was both fun and educational. Mario is easily one of the best guides (more like a personal host) we’ve had on the Amalfi Coast.

My husband and my first visit to Italy and what an Amazing experience!!! We were fortunate to find Mario with Private Driver Naples who arranged a day for us based on what we were wanting to see and do around the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. It went off seamlessly. Eugene was our driver who met us at the train station and escorted us in a very well appointed and air-conditioned vehicle. He provided us with so much information on the area, stopped along the way for pics and we were able to enjoy some free times in the towns along with a Incredible lunch at a Restaurant high above the coastline. It was like we were living in a dream. Lastly, we met up with Mario, who really opened our eyes to all that occurred in Pompeii, how the people lived and events that took place there. I never realized how large the city was and you could definitely spend a few hours there. I was never really big on history, but Mario was so knowledgeable and made learning about the times so fun and interesting! I highly recommend booking with Mario and make sure to allow enough time in Pompeii! You won't regret it.

We were very happy with the service provided by Mario at privatedrivernaples. We were picked up at the train station, driven to Herculaneum, Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi, back to Naples, and to the airport. Mario and his drivers were always on time, were friendly and knowledgeable, and got us where we needed to go. We were especially pleased with Giovanna, the guide he arranged for Herculaneum and Pompeii. She was enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable, and was a pleasure to be around.

This was the most Amazing Experience my husband and I had on our first visit to Italy!!! I booked this trip through Private Driver Naples. The process was seamless! I was able to plan the trip with suggestions from Mario. It was easy to book the train from Rome to Naples and our driver and tour guide Eugene was right there to pick us up and at the end of the trip dropped us off to get the train back to Rome.
