Your sky safari begins with an early collection from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or your Nairobi hotel and a transfer to Wilson Airport for your scheduled Governors Aviation flight, departing at 09:30. After a short, scenic hop over the Great Rift Valley, you land at Loldia airstrip at around 09:50 and are met for the transfer to Loldia House, a historic farmhouse on the western shores of Lake Naivasha, established by a settler who arrived by ox-wagon after the Boer War and still owned by the same family today. Enjoy lunch on the lawn overlooking Mount Longonot, then spend the afternoon exploring the farm, where giraffe, zebra, impala and waterbuck roam among the cattle and the lake shore teems with birdlife. Dinner is served in the traditional dining room.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru National Park

After an early breakfast, set off for Lake Nakuru National Park, one of Kenya's most important rhino sanctuaries. Spend the morning on a game drive around the lake, searching for white and black rhinos, buffalo, Rothschild's giraffe and, with luck, a leopard draped in the acacia trees. Depending on water levels, the shoreline may be lined with flamingos, pelicans and a dazzling variety of water birds. Enjoy a picnic lunch beneath the acacias overlooking the lake, then return to Loldia House in the afternoon. Relax on the lawns or join a boat trip on Lake Naivasha for birdwatching and hippo spotting before dinner.

After breakfast on the lawns, transfer to Loldia airstrip for your Governors Aviation flight direct to the Masai Mara, departing at 10:00 and landing at Governors' airstrip at around 11:00. A short game drive brings you to your camp on the banks of the Mara River, in a corner of the reserve once reserved for Kenya's colonial governors and their royal guests. Choose between the classic Governors' Camp, which set a new standard for luxury tented safaris when it opened in 1972, or the intimate Governors' Il Moran Camp, tucked among ancient riverine forest. After lunch, set out on your first afternoon game drive, returning for drinks around the campfire and a candlelit dinner.

Day 4: Lions of the Musiara Marsh

Wake to early-morning tea and ginger biscuits delivered to your tent, then head out on a morning game drive near the wildlife-rich Musiara Marsh, home to the famous Marsh Pride of lions. Your guide tracks lion, leopard and cheetah across the open plains, while elephants and buffalo move through the marshland. Return to camp for breakfast and a leisurely midday on your veranda, watching hippos and crocodiles in the river below. In the afternoon, set out again in search of the Big Five, pausing for sundowners as the sky over the Mara turns gold, before returning to camp for dinner.

Day 5: A Final Day in the Mara

Spend a final full day in the Mara. For a truly memorable start, drift over the plains at sunrise on a hot-air balloon safari (additional cost), followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush. Otherwise, enjoy another morning game drive, perhaps witnessing the dramatic river crossings of the Great Migration in season, from roughly July to October. Relax at camp during the heat of the day, then set out on a final afternoon drive. In true Governors' tradition, many guests dress up for dinner, celebrating the last evening of a classic safari beneath the stars.

Day 6: Masai Mara to Nairobi
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at camp before transferring to the airstrip for your scheduled Governors Aviation flight back to Nairobi, departing the Masai Mara at 10:45 and arriving at around 12:00. On arrival, you'll be met and transferred to your Nairobi hotel or to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward journey, taking home memories of a timeless sky safari, from the lake shores of Naivasha to the golden plains of the Mara.
