Was a really nice day trip outside of Nairobi. Driver Patrick was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. He handle the traffic like a champ. Enjoyed the ride. Reagan the guide in Hell’s Gate made the bike ride and visit to the park and gorge really enjoyable. Can’t image a better guide. Boat trip was very nice as well. Lots of birds and hippos. Would recommend.

As a solo travel girl I found this experience amazing, especially for the driver Jane, who came pick me up at my place and made me feel safe from the really first moment, and also our guide Gomez transmitted us the soul of Hell’s Gate.
Thank you Jane and Gomez. What a unique experience to cycle through a Keyan National Park. The boat trip was also amazing. The scenery was stunning. Guides were excellent and everything organised really well. It is a long day but thoroughly enjoyable.
The whole trip was amazing. We were picked up ahead of time and transported expertly by Jane in a very comfortable private vehicle. We arrived at Hell’s Gate and got our bikes. The cycle through the park was unbelievably good. Being able to cycle through so much wildlife was wonderful. We saw zebras, giraffe, warthogs, gazelles, cape buffalo, ostrich, rock hyrax and more. The scenery was also stunning. Our guide Gomez was excellent and informative. We then got taken to Naivasha Lake for a boat trip, where we’re had another awesome trip with John. The lake itself is striking, but the wildlife we saw was, again, breathtaking, especially all the hippos. We also saw pelicans, fish eagles, kingfishers, marabou storks and more. We were then driven back to Nairobi in great time. Such a fab day, totally recommend!
Jane our driver and Gomez our guide in Hells Gate were excellent, an unforgettable day out.
Very good package to explore Hell’s Gate and Lake Naivasha. I managed to see all the animals. Definitely worth seeing. Good local guides both in park as well as at the lake. On top od that Joash was a great companion and driver. We had good talks all the way. He also really helped me when I had a little issue. Once again thank you Joash!
The experience was perfect for a day trip out of Nairobi, with a good mix of different landscapes, animals and outdoor activities, just in one day. It was not my first time in a park but first time cycling in a national park, in between zebra, antilopes, some giraffe and buffalo, in the Lion King like landscape, followed by a walk in the gorge, and a boat cruise in lake Naivasha, full of birds and hippo. The team was also very nice: David is a polite very interesting person and we had interesting discussions, even on the Kenyan economic and fiscal policy. Seth the guide was also very nice. The team from African Beast was also very understanding and answered my requests. Note that as indicated in the title, the tour does not include the bike rental and guide (it is only 20 USD), I hope this will be clarified in the section 'what is included'. But I recommend to do it: it can be a bit warm (you need protection from the sun) but any one with no serious health issue can do it.
We had a great day. We booked travel only to the park and lake, as we were a mixed group of foreign and citizens. Jane picked us up and was very helpful throughout the tour. Cycling in the park was fun, though a little tiring for the young ones in the heat with the manual bikes. Our guide there took us into the canyon which had good views. After cycling the lunch was welcome, go for local rather than western food. The ride on the lake was cooling with plenty of birds and hippos around. We all slept on the way back to Nairobi.
We had a great driver/ guide who made sure we fully enjoyed our experience! The bike tour was very cool seeing the animals and the natural wonders! The lake was also beautiful and very serene.
Omgoodness what a wonderful experience. Our driver, Jane, arrived early to our residence so that we could beat the Nairobi traffic out of the city. On the way to Hell’s Gate she stopped so that we could take some quick pictures, but don’t buy souvenirs because they will take advantage of you unless your are a skillful negotiator haha. We had a wonderful time at the park. Jane introduced us to Gomez our guide who helped us select bicycles. I like this option because the bikes are lent by people in the community and I like supporting the local community. Think globally— act locally!! Our guide Gomez helped us with purchasing our entrance tickets. He was always communicative of the prices and explained every fee. We even visited the gorge which is actually owned by the local Masai population so they have an additional $5 fee per person, cash only. Gomez ensured that we had a terrific experience. He was so kind and patient with us explaining the history, and landscape of the park. I even got to go rock climbing for the first time ever!! After we all had lunch at a nearby restaurant suggested by Jane (great food, service, and prices) before heading to Lake Naivasha. Thank you, Gomez and Jane for an amazing experience. Gomez was a wonderful tour guide and Jane an excellent driver navigating us safely back to Nairobi. Next time we will have to check out the natural hot springs spa!
A great trip with Jane our driver who took us there and back and organised the cycles and lunch as well as the boat ride. She was great with our son and made us all feel energised! Jane was knowledgable and a joy to travel with. Would definitely recommend her for your trip! Take some water, snacks, sun cream and a hat and sunglasses - all very useful for the day!
experience! Hell’s Gate National Park was absolutely breathtaking—from the stunning cliffs and gorges to the wildlife and incredible scenery. The Naivasha boat ride was equally amazing, with beautiful views, hippos, and so many birds in their natural habitat. It was the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. A special thank you to Joash, our guide and driver, who made the trip exceptional. He safely drove us from Nairobi to Naivasha and back, was punctual, professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the area. He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had a memorable experience. His recommendations and local insights made the tour even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kenya. If you get the chance to have Joash as your guide, you’re in great hands! Thank you for an amazing day filled with unforgettable memories. 🇰🇪🌿🚤🦓❤️
Fantastic trip to Hell’s Gate with African Beast Safaris! Everything was well organized, and our driver, Jane, was friendly, professional, and made the whole experience even better. She was knowledgeable and made sure we had a great day. Highly recommended!
An excellent way to see the beauty of Kenya without the constraints of a Land Cruiser. American family of 4, with two teenagers wanted a day trip to combine with our Safari so we booked with African Beast after reading great reviews and seeing the competitive pricing. Jane, our driver was amazing. She reached out to us via WhatsApp the day before to make sure our pickup location and time were correct. She arrived timely and got us through the sometimes crazy traffic conditions to the location. She was funny and kind and took great care of us. Stopping at a safari camp restaurant before the bike ride to let us use the washroom and preorder food so that we could use as much time in nature as possible. She also connected us with our bike rental/guide Gomez outside the gate of the park. Gomez was incredible. He took care of us, even when I broke a chain on my bike. He was thoughtful, funny, and went way out of his way to make sure our time at Hells Gate was great. The bike ride was excellent, stops along the way to look at wildlife and landscapes. The best part of Hells Gate is actually the scenery. After about an 8KM bike ride on a road, we set the bikes aside and went for a hike for about an hour in a gorge. It was our family’s favorite part of the day. The weather in July is perfect, low 70s F so the hike was incredible with great vistas. Make sure to wear good shoes or boots as there is some mud and water at times but I can’t recommend it enough. Afterwords we had a quick lunch, which was very good. And went on the boat ride for $25 a person. In my opinion, take it or leave it.. there are some cool views of animals on Crescent Island, but if you are doing a Safari as well on your trip, this part is unnecessary. It takes about an hour. Afterwards Jane got us home safely by early evening, the drive was about 2.5 hours. Overall, it was a great day trip. Jane and Gomez were incredible!
Amazing experience overall. Jane was our super professional, experienced driver who also acted as guide on our drive in (and provided such a comfortable ride we napped on the way back). Kelvin was a great guide. The park is incredible. So unique to bike next to zebras and giraffe! 1000/10. The gorge was truly breathtaking. Great day overall.
I booked the trip alone, not knowing if I would be joining others but it was just me. Driver David was fantastic - spacious vehicle with A/C (don't underestimate this!) and safe driving. He also gave excellent recommendations, e.g. on taking the Lake Naivasha boat safari before lunch, as dark clouds threatened rain, and the boats will not go out if there is rain. Once at the entrance to Hell's Gate, "Community Guide" Frederick took over. With WiFi at the entrance gate, you can pay with your international credit card easily. I paid the bike and guide fee (and tip) in USD cash afterwards. Frederick was fantastic, as I imagine all the community guides probably are. He made sure the bike was adjusted correctly before we started. As an older participant but who loves active adventures, I was a bit concerned the cycling would be too much for me (as I remembered a bike ride in 100-degree humidity in Laos on steep, hilly roads had been, a decade ago). Not the case here. The temperature at this elevation and in early May was comfortable and the roads, though dirt, were mostly flat. I rode the 10 miles back and forth, no problem. We rode out to a certain point and then walked to observe multiple herds and animals - impala, gazelle. eland, wildebeest, warthogs, etc. There were no other folks out this early in the morning, I felt we had the entire park to ourselves. It was lovely to cycle past grazing zebras, unafraid of us. At the end of the road, we parked our bikes (watch out for thieving vervet monkeys!) and walked down to the gorge. Note: the short trail to get down the gorge was steeper than I was prepared for. I was wearing water shoes (tol cycle and hike) which worked great on the rocky trail down, and then the slippery trail alongside the creek. The gorge was super cool, just like the photos. There are now emergency egress routes, per David, because of a flash flood not that long ago that swept some folks away. If it's raining, don't do this hike! I brought a liter of my own water but drank it all once we finished the hike and were back to our bikes. Fred found a liter of water, someone nearby was selling it though I never saw from where. By the time we finished the hike, other folks had started to arrive (we had the gorge all to ourselves as well). By the time we started our ride back to the entrance, the sun was out and it was warm enough that I wish I'd brought a hat. There is nothing cooler than having a giraffe cross the road right in front of you while you are cruising on a mountain bike down a dirt road in the national park! At the end of our trip, back at Hells Gate entrance, a family of rock hyraxes were active. I felt I saw the "real Africa" in Hells Gate, it was one of the most unique safari experiences I can imagine having. I said good bye to Frederick and next, as I mentioned earlier, driver David took me to Lake Naivasha. There are a number of different "hippo safari" operators but I highly recommend this one (I think it's Crescent Island Resort?) Their grounds are beautiful, with zebras and waterbuck grazing on the grounds. Hippos are kept off by electric fence, supposedly. We saw plenty of hippos, on land and in the water. And the birds were amazing, including an opportunity to watch an African Fish Eagle take a fish out of the water (it was hungry!) The lake has risen over the last decade, and thus trees around the lake's edge have died, giving the lake with dark clouds looming an eerie, spooky quality. This was also a special safari. I had the boat to myself with just one other guest. We wore life vests and I felt very safe. I would 110% recommend this tour, it's authentic Africa in a way most people never experience.
Had an amazing 1 day trip to Hell’s gate and lake Naivasha with Jane as our driver. She was patient, kind and professional. We felt very safe and relaxed during the trip. Leki was our guide around the bike trip at Naivasha. He was great in story telling and we absolutely loved his vibe. Would definitely recommend this setup with beast tours, which also were very fast and easy to communicate with.
A must when staying in Nairobi. David the driver is a great guy, providing wonderful information about the areas visiting and passing through with good humour. The bike ride in Hells gate was sublime and a memorial experience. The boat ride around crescent island was also great seeing many wildlife and getting close enough to the Hippos. Thanks for a memorable day out.
Unique amazing one day experience! I was picked up early from my hotel by my wonderful guide Joash, who chauffeured me around all day with the best conversation and humour. First stop was a great view of the Rift Valley, followed by an unforgettable bike safari in Hells Gate. I then went on an interesting and informative boat ride on Lake Naivasha to Crescent Island, where I saw beautiful birds and animals up close. Finally, a delicious lunch of locally caught fish, before heading back to Nairobi. It was a truly incredible day - thank you Joash!
I ended up being the only one on this tour and Joash did a great job taking me around and answering all my questions. He even found a place for me to buy breakfast and coffee. Both Hell‘s gate and Naivasha Lake were very cool experiences. I also had a great guide in Hell‘s Gate, Liaki (sp?), who had great energy and helped me with some of the more difficult uphill biking.
Fantastic, fun and active experience. Loved being able to ride an electric bike through the park while spotting wildlife. The scenery is beautiful and you can ride at your own speed which gives you freedom. I would highly recommend this tour for its beautiful scenery and activeness
This experience was definitely a highlight of my 5 weeks in East Africa! The uniqueness of the landscape and the opportunity to cycle with the animals is not to be missed! And then there’s the serenity of the lake with the hippos, birds and wildlife on the island, almost surreal The day was made perfect by David and Innocent, their attentiveness, sharing of knowledge and commitment to ensuring my experience was unforgettable - thank you!
Grear experience! Gomez was very friendly, helpful & informative 👍 highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had 1 extra day in Nairobi before flying home. Spent the day on this interesting tour of Hells Gate and the Lake. Enjoyed the biking, hiking in the gorge, and boat safari and seeing the Lion King inspiration. Our driver, Jane, was experienced and navigated the challenging roads very well and explained some of the history and culture. Gomez, our guide in Hells Gate, was super knowledgeable of the area and fun to be with. Overall definitely recommend!
An all around good trip! Out tour guide Gomez at Hells Gate National Park was great. The boat ride was also good, we got to see lots of interesting animals.
Beautiful 8km long ride with nature very close by. It was awesome seeing the beautiful animals very close by Meshack was a fantastic driver and very pleasant as well Definitely do the bike ride or get an atv 😊
Best tour in Kenya!! I highly recommend doing the hells gate tour as it is a once in a lifetime experience. Joash was my driver and he was great. Very nice, respectful and funny. Loki was my tour guide and he went above and beyond to make sure I had the full experience inside the Gorge. The entire tour was amazing from biking while seeing the wild animals and the amazing landscape to doing lion king reenactments inside the gorge. Lol. Fully enjoyed it! I skipped the boat tour (mainly because it started to rain) but I’m sure it was great as well, based on the reviews. I went to have a nice lunch instead.
The guide and pick up persons were very Friendly and helpful. The pick up and drop off were on time. They were very nice and knowledgeable.
It was a wonderful experience, thanks to Ben. From pick up to drop off, the explanations, the suggestions, the overall trip was enjoyable
It was a great experience and our driver Joash, provided us with a wonderful and informed experience. He was very patient and even helped us to the airport!
Joash is a great driver. He was totallycon time and flexible when we changed our plans. Leike our guide was AMAZING. He knew so much about the geology and animals, birds and culture. He was warm and personable as well.
The tour was really well organized and a very nice day. Timely pick up, excellent and very responsible drive and nice conversation with Joash, that guided me very effectively through the entire day, with everything running timely as a Swiss clock. Everything worked well and was nicely organized, no waiting times at all between the different steps. The bicycle ride into Hell´s Gate is very nice, with the feeling of being in open air in a Nationa Park, which is so unusual, and watching impalas, zebras, wasthogs and even jiraffes as you ride by. A very educative guiding and conversatio with Leki, whom brings the understanding of the park, the Masai culture and history, and some secret spots in the gorge worth visiting - I really commend the way in which he conducted the guiding. Finally, the boat to Crescent island was also nice and we viewed the hipos in the lake, and may others on the island - would have loved to walk on the island too. I highly recoment this tour and am very grateful to Joash for the excellent and super safe driving, kindness and fantastic organizing of every step.
Me and my husband took the “Hell’s Gate” biking tour and it was so much fun, our guides Joash, the driver and specially Kelvin, the biking and trekking guide were excellent.
We had a wonderful time with Joash and Laky. They were very knowledgeable and flexible with the planning to accomodate our schedules. It was very easy to coordinate and we saw a lot of nature and animals!! Biking is a great way to see Hells Gate - I'd highly recommend.
Great way to start our trip. Joash was prompt, professional and friendly. Clean car. He talked about the different areas we drive through. Good at stopping for photos. Lunch was very good and was budget friendly. The boat trip gave us the opportunity to see birds and animals. The time spent in Hells Gate was fun. We enjoyed hiking and seeing what was there. Our Masi guide provided stories along the way. Joash made our first day in Nairobi fun. Would definitely recommend.
⸻ We booked the Small Group Budget Tour to Hell’s Gate National Park and Lake Naivasha because we were excited to experience the park by bike, as described in the tour details. We were a group of five, and while two of us wanted to cycle as planned, the other three preferred to do the bike portion from the car. The first part of the trip was wonderful — cycling through the park surrounded by zebras and giraffes, and walking through the beautiful gorge. However, when it was time to cycle back, our guide encouraged us to get into the car “because it might rain” and that we needed to go to the boat. The sky was completely clear, and it wasn’t clear why there was such a rush to reach the next activity, especially since the boat ride was optional and not the main focus of the tour. Later, during lunch, the driver mentioned that he had advised us not to cycle back because of the other three members of the group who didn’t want to ride. This was very disappointing, as it meant our experience was shortened to accommodate others rather than following the advertised itinerary. To make matters worse, when we arrived at the lake, there was so much vegetation that we couldn’t even start the boat ride there — we had to drive to another location instead. This made the earlier decision to end the cycling portion even more unnecessary. In the end, we spent half of the tour sitting in the back of a car with dark windows, unable to take photos or enjoy the scenery. Considering that we paid £185 for this experience, it didn’t feel fair or representative of what was advertised. We would appreciate if the company could review this situation, as the tour did not deliver the full cycling experience we were promised.
Loved the bike, the hike and the boat tour. All the tour guides were excellent. We unfortunately hit some terrible traffic on the way out of Nairobi which delayed us more than an hour, but we managed to get in most of the day's events. We did have to forgo riding back from the canyon, which was disappointing to some in our group, but that bike ride would have been much more challenging than the bike out re being uphill. I guess the one negative was the poor quality of the bikes, but that's generally to be expected for rentals.
Our driver Patrick was excellent and the experience wonderful, we had a great guide in Hell’s gate and we participated in rock climbing as well as hiking in the gorge.
You will have an amazing time! We saw zebras, giraffes, impala, buffalo, and MANY more animals up close. The views are breathtaking. The landscape is incredible. Our guide and driver was Patrick. He has great personality and wonderful sense of humor. Inside Hell's Gate, Reagan was our guide. He is extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer every question we had. Book the tour with the entry fee included since it the actual posted fee to enter the park. Do the boat ride as well because it gives you another view of Kenya's beauty. Oh, and you'll want to see the hippos!
It was a wonderful experience — we carry it in our hearts. Pure nature. The bicycle safari was absolutely next level — an incredible way to experience nature, the animals, and the landscape. I have to highlight that our driver, Joash, provided impeccable service — 💯 recommended! Responsible behind the wheel, kind, careful, respectful, and very well prepared. Also, the Spanish-speaking guide at Hell’s Gate, Gadaffi, was excellent! I highly recommend the experience and the way it’s organized. We finished at Lake Naivasha to observe hippos — wow 🤩 Everything was perfectly organized.
This was pretty fun. It was nice to get out of the car and ride a bike. The gorge itself was not impressive. The bike guide was pretty knowledgeable. It's definitely not on anyone's "must do" list, but if you need something to fill a good portion of the day as a day-trip out of Nairobi, then it's fine. Same with Naivasha, although this was the better part of the trip. After my first Safari guide, I quickly learned that not everyone would measure up. The boat driver was fine, but had that underlying feeling that he's more interested in getting back to the docks than in you really enjoying the experience, getting pictures, etc.
Had an amazing experience with Joash. He took great care of us and made it a truly memorable experience. We were well accommodated for.
Great biking adventure through Hell’s Gate and Great Rift Valley. Jane was an accommodating and friendly guide. Be sure to bring plenty of snacks and water because there is no dedicated stop for lunch.
Enjoyed the cycling in the Park a lot as well as the boat ride on the lake. The guide and the driver from Nairobi were very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed my day at Hellsgate.
We really enjoyed our day trip to Hell’s Gate National Park and Lake Naivasha. The bike ride at Hell’s Gate was a lot of fun — though it’s quite hot and you don’t see too many animals up close. Still, the scenery is beautiful and worth it! Lake Naivasha was amazing, especially the boat ride. The tour company was very professional and flexible — they easily rescheduled our tour when we requested a date change. It turned out that we were the only two guests that day, so we went in a private car, which was great. The only small issue was that the driver’s lunch was added to our bill without asking, which wasn’t very pleasant. But overall, we were satisfied and had a great experience
Had an amazing day at Hell’s Gate! The bike ride was a little challenging but so much fun. We spotted plenty of wildlife, and our guides, Joash and Leki, were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The lunch stop was also fantastic, highly recommend this tour!
Fantastic guide! Gave lots of intresting info about the trip and the places we seen. Guide was very passionate! He made the drive there very enjoyable.
We had an incredible time biking through Hell’s Gate and taking a boat ride on Lake Naivasha. The scenery was breathtaking, with wildlife all around (we even saw hippos), stunning views of the cliffs and the beauty of the lake. Our driver Jane was very knowledgeable, friendly and made sure we had a smooth experience. Reccomend this tour!
We had a super nice, prompt driver named Patrick who picked us up from our hotel in a nice minivan. Along the 2 hour drive from Nairobi to Hell's Gate, he stopped at a gift stand with a view of the Rift Valley. It was really nice that the trip price included the bike rental fee so that we didn't need local cash. We were sent a link a day or so earlier to pay for our park entrance fee using a CC. The only cash we needed was for the optional boat ride (which we didn't have time for), tip for our super nice Park Guide, Rigan, who cycled with us and gave us talks along the way to the gorge, and for our driver. The rt ride was about 10 miles with a short gorge walk in the middle. I highly recommend this tour!
Great experience , especially hells gate national park. We got to see a lot of animals while bike riding and had a knowledgeable guide at the park. Jane was our driver and she was amazing , very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about Kenya and the culture. She made the experience even better !
