It was such an exciting experience! Hells gate and Lake Naivasha is in another county, but the drive was worth it, we had a stop to oversee the Great Rift Valley. During the bike ride I was accompanied by a private guide who would explain and answer every single one of my questions. In lake Naivasha got to see so many animals, specially happy with the hippos. The food was great but I'm specially thankful with Dennis, my driver, he was so accommodating to the things I wanted to see and in what order.

This tour to Hell’s Gate National Park begins with pickup from your prescribed location at 7a.m. Your professional guide keeps you entertained with fun facts about Kenya from a cultural perspective to its world-renowned flora & fauna as the premier safari destination, with a break to get views of the Great Rift Valley from a scenic overlook along the way. Upon arriving in the park at roughly 9am, begin a 4-hour, guided bike tour: watch for herds of Thompson’s gazelle, and, zebra, and hartebeest as you ride. An excellent scenic park with its incredible cliffs & entertaining for birding as is home to more than 100 species of birds, including Verreaux’s eagles, augur buzzards, swifts & its cliffs are the roosting/nesting place for the Ruppells vulture. On foot continue to the park’s distinctive gorges, where narrow passageways and caves are sunk into sedimentary rock. This walk will take about 40-60 minutes. After head for lunch (own expense), then proceed to Lake Naivasha.
For an additional fee of US$25 per person, you can explore Lake Naivasha wildlife on a 1-hour boat tour. Spot the hippos that linger just at the surface of the water and see some of the diverse birdlife; Kingfishers, Egrets, Cormorants, the African fish eagles, African spoonbill, and little grebe are all common here. While on the boat spot many animals on crescent island as you circle on its shores as well as breeding grounds for the Great white pelicans. At 4pm, begin the return trip to Nairobi, and finish the day with drop-off in Nairobi at roughly 6pm.

Had a really great experience. Started off being picked up on time at my hotel in Nairobi, and we drove to Hells Gate avoiding all the traffic in the morning. The driver (Faith) is a lovely person and we talked the whole way there & back. Arriving at Hells Gate, your driver will wait outside while you are looked after by a Hells Gate tour guide. The cycle and walk was good; seeing many Zebras and Giraffess up close, while seeing Buffalo and Eland from a safer distance. Lake Naivasha on the way back was nice a boat trip, and your driver will come with you on this one. On the way back expect traffic due to the time of day, I got back around 6pm so a nice full day filled. Try not to sleep much on the way back, your driver I'm sure will be a lovely person and a great source of information!
Great day out with friendly and knowledgeable guides. I dont cycle but the ride was still manageable for me and the weather was great. Spotted many wildlife on the toir. Would recommend.
Calvin was amazingly adaptable to our needs. He was great. He worked with us on all of the things we wanted to do. He supported our desire of what to see and when. He was very easy to work with. His explanations were very clear and his English is outstanding. He is friendly and I definitely recommend Calvin as a guide
This was an excellent long day. Guide was outstanding. Very helpful. He was open to flexible planning. We enjoyed the drive. The touring bike ride down into the gorge. We enjoy the lake crescent Island. Each guide was excellent. Bike guide. Walking. Guide the lake boat driver. My wife became tired on the bike ride and the guide helped her to finish which was excellent. Our driver was patient and flexible. Which we appreciate it very much.
As a solo female traveler, I did my due diligence of research looking for a provider to take me on a day tour from Nairobi. I saw Rustic Nature tours recommended on several different Facebook sites that I follow and in particular had seen recommendations from other solo travelers so I gave them a call to set up a private tour. I am so glad that I chose them because the trip was perfection. I could not have asked anymore from them or from the guide they provided, Linus, who was absolutely the best I could have ever gotten. This was hands-down, the best day that I had in Kenya. I toured Hells Gate, Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island. The weather had rain in the forecast, and I was very concerned that we were going to be rained out. However, Linus was in constant contact with people in the area we were traveling to to make sure that everything was going to be OK and he was ready to rearrange as necessary. Luckily I did everything that I wanted to do before the rain appeared. Linus went out of his way to make sure that I was comfortable and getting the experience that I wanted. After picking up a bike for the ride through Hells Gate, Linus followed me with the vehicle to make sure I had everything I needed. That way I did not have to carry my backpack or worry about water. Also he told me if I got tired we could just pack up the bike and drive from that point. He was there when I needed him, especially when I had a flat tire. Not sure what I would’ve done if he hadn’t been there. When we exited the park. I saw other drivers and vehicles just waiting for their clients to come back. Linus gave me the personal attention that I desired during this trip and really took care of me as a solo female traveler. He also made sure I didn’t miss any important sites. At one point he told me to park the bike and we went on a short nature walk. To my surprise, he took me right to baboon colony that I got to photograph. It was spectacular. I would have never known it was there if Linus hadn’t have been there to show me the way. Throughout the day, he also had my camera taking videos and photos of me experiencing Hells Gate and Crescent Island. These are memories that I will never forget that he captured - me riding the bike alongside zebras and walking amongst the giraffes were just two of the highlights of the day. This day exceeded all of my expectations and I would highly recommend Rustic Nature tours and don’t forget to request Linus as your guide, you will not be disappointed.
Douglas was our guide and driver. Our tour was to Hell’s Gate and Lake Navaisha, approximately 2 hours from Nairobi on a heavily travelled road. Douglas did a fantastic job of navigating the many trucks, motorcycles and other motorists. He was generous with his time and knowledge. We enjoyed having lunch with and learning about his culture and family. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic tour i would defintely recommed this if you are in Kenya. Punctual, friendly and very well organised. The boat ride was a highlight seeing hippos in the water, and all the animals and bird life on the island, especially the eagles catching fish from m the water. Cycling through the valley is a great experience. Dennis our driver was great and made sure we were where we needed to be!
Wonderful experience made even more wonderful by stellar hosts. Denish arrived at my hotel and was a great driver over the 2 hour ride to the park, stopping at an overlook of the great rift valley. We arrived at Hell’s Gate and Reagan took me though the part with an excellent knowledge of the land, wildlife who inhabit the park and the people who once inhabited the area. Highly recommended this trip! Would consider, unless very hungry, to skip the lunch portion and continue straight to the boat ride for a quicker return to Nairobi. Again many thanks to Reagan and Denish for being wonderful hosts!
Kelvin picked me up from the airport and drove through the Rift Valley. We stopped at a view point that was stunning! He is very knowledgeable about history, nature, geography and other facts! Kelvin had a lovely surprise prepared for me when we got to Hell’s Gate… A brilliant bike guide, Gadafi, that speaks Spanish among a bunch of other languages! Gadafi rode with us through the reserve, explained us a lot about the surroundings in a very kind and attentive manner. After the bike tour, we had lunch at lake Naivasha and then I got to enjoy a fantastic boat tour through the lake, that is full of wildlife. We passed very close to different families of hippos! The tour was magnificent and would definitely repeat it in my next travel to Nairobi! Asante, my friend.
I don’t generally leave reviews for tours, but I need to make an exception for Kelvin at Rustic Nature Tours. I booked an impromptu 1-day tour to Hell’s Gate with a bicycle and boat trip. He was punctual and courteous, and his transport was impeccable. But it was his wealth of knowledge, not only about Kenya, the flora and fauna at the park, and cultural and social matters, but also his breath of expertise on topics of sustainability, development, and international affairs. He is exceptionally passionate about his craft, and it shows in his commitment to service and sensitivity to his clients well being. I cannot recommend him more strongly. You are in good hands at Rustic Nature Tours.
Our recent trip to Hell's Gates in Kenya was an extraordinary experience, thanks to our exceptional tour guide Kelvin. Kelvin made contact with us a few days before the tour began to confirm the pick up arrangements from our hotel. From the moment we set off, it was evident that we were in the hands of a true expert. Kelvin runs many yours across Kenya's national parks so he is in expert in local wildlife, flora, and fauna. Every step of the journey was accompanied by insightful commentary, providing us with a deeper understanding of the ecosystem and its intricate balance. Our tour began with a stop at the rift valley view point with an opportunity to visit some of the local woodcraft shops and then we continued on to hell's gate where Kelvin arranged bikes to hire and used us on to a friendly local guide who spoke 10 languages and was very happy to answer all of our questions as we rode our bikes through the park. Not only was our guide well-versed in nature, but they also shared a wealth of information about the Masai people, enriching our cultural experience and fostering a sense of connection and understanding with them. After the hell's gate excursion, Kelvin took us for a camp lunch and then over to Naivasha lake for a private boat tour of the lake where we were able to see hippos and various bird species. Our captain even brought some fish along to entice the fish eagle to dive down towards the lake. The journey itself was smooth and comfortable. We felt safe and at ease throughout the excursion, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the natural wonders surrounding us. Thanks Kelvin, we really appreciated the trip that you made for us.
The tour was fantastic. Being up close to the animals was out of this world and not doable with a safari car. Bonus biking is such an eco-friendly mode of transport to ensure less emissions and noise pollution for the animals. Kelvin made the drive enjoyable and is easy to talk to about Nairobi and world events. The guide David for Hell’s Gate was super helpful and encouraging when hitting tough terrain. With his excellent skills was able to see all the key animals in the park - giraffes, zebra, buffalo, vultures, etc. I wouldn’t have noticed without his guidance. The tour was well organized and great communication. Lunch at the camp and the lake ride was appreciated to cool down after the cycle.
I had the best time visiting Hell’s Gate. Kelvin picked us up promptly and was a careful, safe, and skilled driver with a very clean and comfortable ride. He introduced us to our knowledgeable guide David whose passion for wildlife and nature inspired us throughout the park. Our bikes were sturdy and the 16 km ride (in total) plus the short hike to view the gorge was lovely, do-able, and great exercise. The unique landscape and animals can be admired throughout the ride too. The pleasure on top was Kelvin taking us to a cute spot for lunch at an excellent restaurant & a relaxing warm boat ride. Lots of birding life and of course lots of hippos! Highly recommend!!
A wonderful experience. If you a re looking for a day trip from Nairobi, this is one of the best options. The team is very well organized and they have answered all my curious questions. Kelvin will keep you entertained with a lot of stories about animals and much more. Very professional!
Hi everyone! This is one of the best day tours you can have from Nairobi. Very well organized and on time! Kelvin is the best driver and he knows a lot about the country, he will keep you entertained with a lot of stories. He is excellent doing his job and very professional. I will leave a couple of pictures so that you can see how much fun is the experience!
Super organized and very informative tour. The bike ride through Hell’s gate national park was tougher than I expected so be prepared with plenty of water/sunscreen and camera because there are truly stunning views and landscape to capture. Being on the lake was quite a treat and the boat drivers were super skillful and provided some good information on the different bird species. Recommend you rest well the day before because it makes for a very long day. My guide Kelvin was very knowledgeable and was amazing to deal with. He went above and beyond throughout.
Super nice trip, safe biking between antilopes and zebras. Lunar landscape and breathtaking- if you intend to ride a bike don't forget your sunscreen & water. Naivasha is a place to relax and enjoy good food, sleep, herbivors ( including hypos during the night) and monkeys coming on the terrace free of any restriction. Finally we didn't visit the island, but we seems that the place keeps alive the filming of "Out of Africa" (1984) and the animals brought there for the filming are enjoying for almost 40 years a nice life. The guide, Kelvin was very knowledgeable and prompt, safe driving, closing the circle of a very good weekend break. We recommend his services for a reasonably priced and enjoyable break.
My first tour to Kenya/experience was hell's gate national park. I guarantee you the bike ride and walking on the rim of the gorge is awesome. Kelvin my guide was the best. He picked me by 7am and on the way he was jovial and answered a million questions that I was able to ask. The bike ride out is about 8km down and beside the riding path there were full of zebras, buffaloes, giraffes gazelles and pumba. This was far much better than I had imagined. I recommend this tour and company 100% The boat ride was also worth it, I saw many hippos in lake Naivasha. Both in water and on land while enjoy a sumptuous lunch at a terrific restaurant by the lake , with great views.
Lovely wholesome experience. I would highly recommend! Kelvin was awesome. Definitely glad he was driving and not me haha. Bike & boat tour guide were both fantastic as well. Can’t believe how well they could spot animals. I saw warthogs, zebras, gazelle, baboons, hippos, eagles, impala, waterbuck, giraffes, and some others I can’t remember. If you’re looking at this tour, I’m sure you already know, but this park is the inspiration for the setting on The Lion King, including Pride Rock. Without hesitation 10/10!
Such a lovely experience! Kelvin our host & guide was simply fantastic. He is professional, drives very safely and on top of it all super nice and patient. We visited Hell's gate by biking with a very knowledgeable and kind guide named David. The park is stunning and amazing to be immersed in nature and see the animals in such close proximity. The boat ride was also worth it as its relaxing and you get to see a lot of hippos chilling in water. The sounds of the African fish eagle are so beautiful & a super flight rapture. Trully worthwhile, great day! Can't reccomend more highly!
I highly recommend kelvin as your tour guide for Kenya! Great experience where we had the opportunity to biking while seeing zebras and other wild animals in the Hells Gate NP. Kelvin was always very willing to help and supportive to make the best of our day :-)
Kelvin provided a great day out. We were collected from our hotel in Nairobi at 7:00 am ( on time ) and travelled two hours out towards lake Naivasha. Kelvin pointed out landmarks on route. We stopped at the Great Rift Valley for a quick photo before continuing on to Hells Gate. We cycled 20 km around Hells Gate National park, we touched the hot springs and clambered through small gaps in the gorge and we got incredibly close to the animals in the park all of which allowed for fantastic photography. The team made all this happen and we had a wonderful day. A very tired couple (us) we’re delivered safely back to the hotel at 7:00 pm.
I absolutely recommend to book that day trip to anyone who want to spend a day outside Nairobi. I was a bit nervous traveling by myself, but Douglas made my day. He has been fantastic and really safe driver. He took the time to show me around, made sure that I had enough water for the day and even a hat. He knew what was coming, ahah! Once at Hells gate, I went on a 3 hrs Bike ride with 2 other girls and Gadifi the guide. It was amazing! We then headed to the lack where we had lunch and went on a boat trip with another guide who was really nice and experienced. Overall, really great day!
Great trip, scenic drive towards Lake Naivasha, cycled, climbed and hiked in Hell's Gate and did a boat safari across the lake. Kelvin is a very professional and knowledgeable guide, he hooked me up with great guides who knew a lot about the local wildlife. At the end of the day, it turned out my Lake Naivasha hotel did not accept credit cards, Kelvin was already on his way back but turned around and paid my hotel fee for me (which I later returned), he truly goes the extra mile for his customers!
Kelvin showed me a great day with a fun bike ride around hells gate and boat tour of the lake. The hippos were front and center and so much wildlife! I highly recommend Kelvin for your next adventure!
Enjoyed this day trip from Nairobi to hells gate with my great friend and guide Kelvin. A very scenic little park with very impressive cliffs, which made me do rock climbing as well. It was amazingly exciting to cycle through herds of zebra, giraffe and buffalo. After hells gate we proceeded to lake naivasha for some wonderful boat ride seen hippos and lots of birding. All in all a terrific day. Thank you Kelvin!
We had a lovely trip. The bike ride was fun and we saw many hippos with the boat ride. David was an excellent tour guide and stopped everywhere we wanted as we cycled to take pictures. Its was a really great day and our guide & driver Musa made sure we had a terrific tour.
This was a really fantastic experience. If you wanna see animals from close by with a bike and you have some good physique, this is really a must do thing in Nairobi . Kelvin was my personal guide & driver. He arrived on time, very friendly and he helped me through the day with all his experience and knowledge about Nairobi. Once arrived at Hells Gate, I got the company of David and he was very helpful in guiding me through the park. I saw so many animals, even had a close encounter with a giraffe on the road... really incredible. Had sneak view of the gorge from the top, so so beautiful. The cycling is quiet challenging as you also need to get back but David took the time. Afterwards I went to the lake. This was nice to see but just then for the hippos and the sceneray with the birds. Thank you Kelvin for the nice day in Nairobi.
Absolutely perfect. The day started promptly on time and the trip started with a stop at the view point-Great Rift Valley, incredibly stunning. Riding bicycles through Hell's Gate National Park was amazing -- we saw giraffes, boars, impalas, zebras, and many other animals. The cliffs and rock formations are a breathtaking sight. Our day was only made better by Kelvin, our fantastic guide. He answered each and every question I had, drove from and to Nairobi with impeccable skill, and made the day all the more enjoyable. If you have a spare few days in Nairobi, plan a trip to Hell's Gate, and plan it with Kelvin and Co.
The tour operator was professional, on time pickup and delivered everything mentioned in the booking description. With great organization, knowledgable guides, Kelvin & David, had the wonderful experience of spotting zebras, buffalo, giraffes, antelopes, and an auger buzzard. I didn’t bring enough cash so he paid and I refund him later. This was very kind. David was fantastic. He let you go at your own pace, stopping when you want. Could not reccomend any more highly. It was truly a surreal experience.
This was a fantastic day. Kelvin picked me up promptly and drove me around safely all day, and even pointed out several points of interest along the way. David took me on a wonderful bike ride and hike. We then had lunch at a nice restaurant near Lake Naivasha, followed by a boat ride around the lake, which was awsome.
