Itinerary
Tour starts by pick up at 7am at your Nairobi Hotel. The journey takes a drive down the Great Rift Valley stopping at the viewpoint for photography. You then continue on to get to Hell's Gate National Park to arrive at 9:30am. Once at the Park, you have the option of a game drive in a Safari vehicle or take bikes into the Park. Cycling in the Park is a great adventure as you get to ride the bikes for 7 Kilometers before resting at a ranger's post. After a brief stop at the rangers post you leave the bike and start a walking safari. Enjoy the spectacular views of the gorge. Continue on foot into the park’s distinctive gorges, where narrow passageways and caves are sunk into sedimentary rock. After a 1-hour walk, stop by a local Maasai community to learn about traditional life and customs in the Great Rift Valley, then head to Naivasha Fisherman’s camp for lunch (own expense).
Explore Lake Naivasha wildlife on a 1-hour boat tour (not included in price). Spot the hippos that linger just at the surface of the water, and see some of the diverse birdlife; African fish eagles, lesser flamingos, African spoonbill, and little grebe are all common here. At 4pm, finish the day with return transfer to your hotel in Nairobi.

This day trip was the highlight of our trip to Kenya so far. Meshack our driver arrived exactly on time. He was friendly, knowledgeable and good fun - we had some good laughs! He is also an extremely safe driver and out journey was very comfortable. We arrived to Hells Gate National Park where we met Charles our guide for the park. He too was very knowledgable and friendly. We enjoyed a cycle safari and a hike down into one of the gorges in the park. After this we moved to a resort on the banks of lake Naivasha where we did a 1 hour boat safari which was excellent, followed by a lovely meal in the resort. Meshack then returned us to our hotel in Nairobi - using his local knowledge to avoid the heavy traffic on the way into Nairobi. This was an excellent trip made better by the people who facilitated it. Thank you Meshack and Charles!
I loved the experience, starting from the biking experience at the entrance down to the gorge and also our tour guide in the park Gadaffi was awesome at his job. Kelvin who picked me up from my apartment and took me and some other tourist to see the Hell's gate and the Lake was a very nice fellow. He was very vocal and friendly. It was a 10/10 experience for me.
My friend and I went today and we absolutely loved it! Everything was perfect! Francis was amazing and very accommodating! He made us feel very welcome and was sharing stories along the way. We really did enjoy our time with him, he was pointing out places as we were driving through the city. For the tour itself, we went with Ibrahim, he was also very nice and very knowledgeable. He was very patient with us and although the gorge was closed, we didnt feel like we missed out. Over all, AMAZING and must do experience for real.
The driver and my guide for biking were both incredible. They were friendly, personable, and encouraging. The trip itself was a cool experience, and great exercise!
We were sold this trip (via the Travel Agent) as a Rift Valley Safari trip, but were disappointed to find that it was not really a safari at all. Bike and hike - the hike was into Devil's Gorge - very tricky negotiation of steep gorge sides and slippery rocks at the bottom. The bike ride was not so easy riding over bumpy, rock-strewn sandy roads for 18k. The Safari bit comes later - a Boat Safari which is an added extra so not really part of the trip at all. Although we were disappointed that it was not what we expected (I had done a safari in that area some years ago and thought I knew what was coming) I have to say the trip was very good and we did enjoy it.
I don’t know where to begin! The tour and our guides were simply amazing! I didn’t even feel like a visitor. I was able to ask all sorts of questions. When we stopped to eat lunch our guide sat and ate with us which I loved ! I’m a teacher and I talked about wanting to visit a school but because of the time school was closed. Calvin took a moment to show me a school from the outside and showed me where students played. We talked about how far the children had to walk to school each day. How informative and personable Calvin was very much appreciated! I would recommend him to anyone who desires a more intimate experience. We had a amazing time!
Francis our driver was incredibly patient. Engaging and very respectful. I was impressed by his punctuality and my goodness.. the music he was playing . oh my..throwback to the 90’s r&b era.. lulled us all to sleep..Amazing patient tour guide when we arrived at Hells gate in lake Naivasha. The bike ride was a little bumpy but worth the ride. The scenic drive/ ride on the bike was magnificent.. I highly recommend this excursion!
I booked this on a whim the night before, and Francis was at my hotel the next morning at 7 am with a smile and warm welcome. Expecting others to be along, it was just me so I got a personalized trip. The ride to Navaisha was a bit slow with lots of truck traffic, but Francis was adept at making the best of it. I had travelled on this road before, so knew it would have moments. I enjoyed the conversation with Francis and we got to Hell's gate @ 9:30 for the bike ride. On the way we stopped at the fish camp to order lunch so it would be ready for our arrival later. Decent menu, the food was good, not pricey. Kevin was my guide at Hells Gate and we hopped on bikes for the 3 mile trip to the Canyon. He was terrific throughout. The walk through the canyon was at times challenging, as there are steep drops and climbs on rocks that require nimble footing. There were some escape paths for those who wanted to take it easier. I would not recommend the longer version of this hike if you have bad knees or are heavy or not nimble...Wear shoes that are either for hiking or tennis shoes...and be prepared for them to get wet. Some of the climbs on the way out were quite challenging, and while Kevin hopped up easily and always had a hand to extend when needed, I had to go slowly and make sure of each step. I made it eventually. Again, be warned the extended back half of the hike has technical elements that require some strength and good balance. I enjoyed the physical challenge but its not for everyone. Note, I am over 60 and reasonably fit. From the canyon, another 3 miles back to the entrance mostly flat, where Francis was waiting to take you to lunch. Good meal at the fish camp, then onto the boat ride. At the registration center for the boat ride, I had to pay 10 bucks extra ($30 vs $20) but it was still worth it as I got a solo tour. Stephen was my guide and showed me around Lake Naivasha, pointing out various hippo groups and many other wildlife stops. He steers the boat pretty close to the shore so you can get good pictures. Interesting wildlife of all kinds, many different birds and land animals. Got some great pics. After the boat ride, it was back to my hotel....again traffic was a bear due to a rainstorm, but we made it back my 5:30. I was pooped from the sun and exercise, but a good tired. A good way to spend a day outside of Nairobi. Note: Bring sunscreen and a hat, hiking shoes or sneakers, shorts recommended as it got hot during the ride and midday.
Eventhough I was the only one who had booked this trip for that day, the trip did not get cancelled. Franchis, very friendly guide, picked me up and was happy to answer all my questions throughout the day. Hells Gate and Lake Naivasha are both beautiful places and the service was very good. Definitely recommend this trip!
Everything about this day safari was wonderful. Gracepatt was extremely well organized and responsive and we really enjoyed our two wonderful guides: Stephen Mutuku was our fabulous, knowledgeable, and fun driver, and Ibrahim made sure we had an enjoyable and safe cycle and hike to Hell's Gate. When the going was getting a little tough for our 15 year old daughter in the final stages of the bike trek, he offered super positive encouragement to keep her going. I would highly recommend this perfect day safari. Cycling through a National Park in Kenya should not be missed, in my opinion..

Amazing experience, would definitely recommend!

My tour with Gracepatt Ecotours Kenya was fantastic. My driver Mutuku was very professional and courteous. He picked me up on time and with a smile. Although the other parties were holding the other tourists up from starting on time, our driver Mutuku was were accommodating to us while we patiently waited on the late tourists. Our first stop was the Great Rift Valley where we took photos and shop for souvenirs before heading to Hell’s Gate. The Hell’s Gate National Park was marvelous as well as the tour on Lake Naivasha. The restaurant was good and the driver took our orders before arrival so the group wouldn’t have to wait long... which was great. Overall great tour and would definitely recommend this tour company to my friends and family.
We opted for the private tour of Hells Gate and Lake Naivasha. Kelvin was our guide. He was at our hotel on time to pick us up. He was very friendly and spoke perfect English. We started with Hells Gate where we met a guide who gave us our bicycles and came with us through the park. It was amazing cycling with animals such as giraffes, Zebra, Gazelles and many more literally metres away from you. The walk through Hells Gate was also very impressive. We stopped for a lovely lunch on the way to Lake Naivasha. The boat trip on the lake was fantastic and we saw hippos as well as many birds. Overall a great day out and worth doing if you have some spare time in Nairobi. Kelvin also made it fun for us and pointed things out on the move and answered all the questions we had for him.
I chose this tour after reading Trip Advisor reviews and it did not disappoint Although booked as a small group tour I actually had a private experience and Patrick my guide made the day one to remember It began with a two hour drive through the Rift Valley on which you get a real experience of Kenyan country life with donkey carts and goats sharing the road with ‘modern’ trucks. Arriving at the park I was matched up with a bike and my park guide for 3 hours of strenuous activity I suggest this is a tour for those confident on a bike and with reasonable fitness but the experience of being meters from zebra and other wildlife with no windows is something you must experience After an 8km ride we went climbing into the gorge. A serious amount of fitness and sense of adventure is needed but my guide ensured I made it safely and once inside the gorge it was spectacular After the ride back to the start Patrick took me back to Fisherman’s Camp where we had preordered lunch - a great idea and the setting was relaxing after a strenuous 3 hours It was then back to take the optional boat trip which I highly recommend allowing a relaxing end with more wildlife before the long drive back to Nairobi again experiencing the unique style of Kenyan driving Highly recommend this trip if you are fit and know your way round a bike A must to give you a one on one view of nature
If you are wondering how it could be possible that a tour company could have such outstanding ratings, with ZERO reviews below four stars, the answer is that GracePatt Ecotours earns every one of those positive ratings. I have been studying on my own in Nairobi and on a whim decided to look for day tours out of Nairobi that would be affordable, active, and well-organized. I am so glad that I found GracePatt Ecotours, because the trip I joined to Hell's Gate and Lake Naivasha was far beyond what I expected based on the cost or how last-minute my decision was. They were extremely accommodating when I booked last minute. The car arrived exactly on time and was clean, safe, and a recent model with lots of leg room (I'm 6'3"!). Our driver, Kelvin, was smart, funny, welcoming, and extremely professional. We drove out of Nairobi past breathtaking views of the Rift Valley from Mt. Kenya until we arrived at Hell's Gate. We then met up with a pre-selected bike guide named Ibrahim, who guided us on a bike tour through Hell's Gate and then on a walking tour through the gorge in the park. As someone who loves active trips, this was perfect for me, and we got to see plenty of zebras, buffalo, impalas, and more along the way. We went from Hell's Gate to a restaurant on the shore of Lake Naivasha, with a phenomenal Swahili tilapia dish (the first I've had!). Then, we hopped on a boat ride, saw plenty of hippos in the lake, and finally drove back to Nairobi. Although the roads were difficult on the way back (what roads aren't in Kenya), our driver Kelvin navigated them with ease and dropped each of the tour participants back at our respective hotels/apartments. If you are looking for a company to trust, I cannot recommend GracePatt tours more.
We had an INCREDIBLE tour of Hells Gate and Lake Naivasha with Calvin from Gracepatt. I highly recommend this tour to anyone with a free day in Kenya. The experience was fantastic from start to finish: On-time pickup, comfortable van, fabulous bike and boat tours, and a delicious lunch.

This was a really great day, well organised, enjoyable, active and as described. The only criticism is that I think it was on the upper end of expense, but overall a great day.

It was an excellent day tour from Nairobi. Riding a bike made it very sporty and different. Be ready to sweat a bit on your ride back since you will face a slight but long slope. Don't worry any average person can do it. You will see Zebras, pumbas, different types of monkeys, impalas, and a couple of giraffes. There are not cats so you will not be eaten : My park guide Ibrahim was also nice and friendly and explained as we tour. Keep in mind that to get to the gorge you have at some points hold a rope for descending so for overweight people or with mobility problems going down might be challenging. Again, an average person it will be fine. My driver Stephen picked me up at the hotel very punctual and he was very nice and drove safety considering the roads are not well kept. For lunch they took me to a very nice and affordable place named Fisherman's camp, around 800 shillings 8USD for a main course, there there where a lot of beautiful birds.

For me, Hells Gate was a must. I'm a fit 61 and the 25K bike/Hike was extremely challenging. Of course my water bottle popped out unnoticed after about 200 meters into a ride over volcanic rock ...funny thing, my guide found it on the way back on the side of the road, around and area where I suspected I must have lost it. The rock climbing at The Bedrooms is for the limber and mobile but not for kids. The separation between the rocks could be too deep when climbing down. So if you felt unsure about the bike/hike part and skipped it, the drive through the park would be fine too. Then going to Lake Naivasha, take the boat ride. It costs 30, not 20 and they only use cash for that part so be prepared. I had a boatman/guide and just me...perfect to see the Hippos up close. On the side banks was a huge Cormorant rookery with the flocks surrounding us. This boat was basically the size of a long canoe vastly different than the big boats of 30 years ago and this provides a more intimate experience. I also saw Waterbuck, Impala, Giraffe and a lone Wildebeest on the banks. The ride out from Nairobi is quite a ride but this is a good full day trip.

We had an amazing time at Hells Gate National Park! Our guide, David, was very patient and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour!

Hells gate is a strenuous activity but is not listed as such, there is climbing and rappelling to do. Our driver tried to get us to do the optional boat ride ($), we refused. He wouldn't take us by the coffee plantation road unless we booked another tour the next day, we refused. Viator, not happy.

Unbelievable! Such a great tour. One of the most interesting experiences on all my travels. Really felt in touch with nature.

If you book this trip, do yourself a big favor and try to arrange the guide Stephen Mutuku. Such a wonderful guide!

On time and reliably Alex showed us the sights around Naivasha Lake. The boat trip is actually mandatory! Thank you
