We did safari at the end of August, it was a great experience also thanks our driver Moses that is an amazing guide and person! We enjoyed all our times and all the accomodations where we stayed, in particular Kilaguni Serena Lodge in Tsawo West where we saw lots of elephants drinking from a water hole in front of the restaurant!!!

John Kariuke was an amazing guide! Safe driver, knows so much about the natural world of Eastern Africa. Great sense of humor and fun to be with. I recommend with 5 stars!
A truly fantastic experience! Our driver/guide Dominic took us safely to the very best places in the national parks and shared so much of his knowledge about the flora and fauna. We highly recommend this company. Thanks for making our safari trip so memorable!
Martin was our driver. He did great. We had a beautiful vacation. Amboseli was full of animals. Tsava West at the voyager zwiani we did safari by feet. That was absolutely fantastic because we saw lots of crocodiles and Hippos. In Tsavo east we saw less animals but we saw two different lions. Thank you for this experience.
We had a wonderful 5-day safari with pick-up at Diani Beach, visiting Tsavo East, Tsavo West, and Amboseli, and ending with accommodation near Nairobi Airport. The trip was amazing — our driver Godffrey was outstanding (highly recommended), everything was perfectly organized, and everything went smoothly. The lodges were also a dream, and the wildlife we saw was incredible. Overall, it was an absolutely fantastic experience that we can recommend to everyone.
What an unbelievable experience! My wife and I have never safaried, and neither had a lot of people in our group. Those that had, were still massively impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of our guides. Sammy Ndungu was our driver and we felt so safe with the way he drove and dealt with the wildlife within the park. Sammy was friendly, chatty, funny and very knowledgeable. We were picked up from where we were staying in Thika, driven to and through Tsavo East for 4 days and then on to our hotels in Watamu. All the while Sammy did everything he could for us, prioritising our safety and comfort and taking extra care with the two young babies within our group. He really made our trip even more special with how he looked after us all and we will be forever grateful! Asante sana Sammy!
We had an unforgettable safari experience thanks to our amazing guide, Sammi! He was incredibly knowledgeable, spoke excellent English, and explained everything so well. He was always open to questions and made sure we felt informed and comfortable throughout. As a group of girls, we felt completely safe and respected—Sammi treated us with kindness and professionalism the whole time. Highly recommend this tour and especially Sammi!
Amazing experience! We loved the whole thing. Early morning rides and every hotel we selected was great. Our guide Sammy was perfect, provided a lot of valuable information about Kenya and the animals. Thanks a lot!
Martin was a fabulous driver and was like family by the end of the trip. He made the trip for Christine and me very enjoyable. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a safari driver
That was the best experience in my life. We've seen a lot of beautiful animals. Our guide John Kariuki was very knowledgeable about animals and nature. He knew from his observations when we might encounter lions. And that's how it's always been. he looked after us very well and took care of everything. Thank you very much John. It was a great pleasure to meet you. I highly recommend!!!
We went on a wonderful 5-day tour through Amboseli and Tsavo national parks. Communication beforehand via email was good and easy. We were picked up from our accommodation in Nairobi and got dropped off at our stay in Diani Beach. All 5 days had new highlights, with many different animals, landscapes and views. Anthony was a great guide and he made sure we had a good time and that we see all the cool animals.
This was my first visit to Kenya for a safari vacation and I planned it myself without using a travel agent. I was looking for a car and driver/safari guide to take me around the safari destinations. In doing some online research I came upon the name of Robert Murigi of Explorer Kenya Tours and Travel and let him know I was wanting to go from Nairobi to Amboseli for 2 nights, West Tsavo for 1 night, East Tsavo for 1 night and then dropped off at Diani beach. Robert quoted me a fair price and I booked the trip and paid my deposit. Robert set me up with an amazing driver guide Bernard Njuni who picked me up from my Nairobi hotel exactly at the agreed upon time. I was a bit nervous about this part of the trip planning since it was my first time and much depended on the driver being responsible. Bernard was exceptional full stop! He has a deep knowledge of the safari regions, the animal names and behaviors (including the numerous birds), the flora and fauna of the region and the history of Kenya. He is a great communicator and conversationalist and I learned a tremendous amount in a conversational format. I would highly recommend both Bernard and Explorer Kenya to anyone looking for a safari guide and driver. Do not bother hiring a spotter as well as Bernard is an excellent spotter too. I know that Explorer Kenya and Bernard do trips that also include other adventures besides safaris such as mountain climbs and other sporting activities but I don’t know the full extent of those services. Ashok
We definitely recommend Explorer Kenya Safari if you want to have a good experience in Kenya. They were flexible and adapted the tour to our needs. We had a 4 day and a half safari trip, going to Tsavo West, Amboseli and last Tsavo East. The price was fair, considering we had our private car, with our own guide, all meals included and the lodges. I have to mention our guide Sule (I am not sure if we are spelling it correctly), which was REALLY great!! He had the best eyes and easily spotted far away animals, helped us in any way he could and definitely made the trip more pleasant. We manage to see almost all animals, from birds to all big 5. Including the Rhino, which can be seen protected in Tsavo West. The view in Amboseli was breathtaking with the Kilimanjaro on the background. And so many animals!!! The company was expecting us at the airport and we never had to worry during the entire trip. We stayed in 3 different places. In general, be prepared for not having electricity 24h, bring an extension cord as some rooms have one 1 plug, and might not be so much hot water. The Ngulia Safari Lodge is located inside the reserve. It is really cool, leopard territory. Room has a nice view and you can always spot animals near the restaurant. They could improve some small things in the lodge, but overall is fine. The Sentrim Amboseli Camp is located outside Amboseli. It is quite big but also prepared for the many tourists. The room was very nice! And last one, Voi Safari Lodge. Also inside the reserve and with spectacular view. Also really cool bunker near waterhole so you can hear and see animals really up close.
John Kariuki was our amazing guide. He knew about all the wildlife. We had a spectacular time and saw so many animals. This included the Aardwolf and leopard. We saw everything except the rhinoceros. We also saw so many families of animals and caught views of beautiful Mount Kilimanjaro. My favorite experience was seeing the lions as soon as we arrived at Amboseli.
The safari exceeded my expectations from the start. Each day we saw new and unexpected sights and animals. Our guide, John Kariuki, was knowledgeable and provided much appreciated information about not only the animals, but also the areas we visited. It was a pleasure for us to enjoy his company and to have him as our guide for the time we were on safari.
We did a 5-day safari to Amboseli and Tsavo West. John Kariuki was our driver/guide during the entire trip and really made it a memorable experience. The 4x4, the camps and the food were all very good. John did his very best to see the animals we wanted to see and delivered his promise. So, thank you again for these 5 wonderful days we've spent in Kenya.
We experienced services of Explorers Kenya during MKTE FAM for Ambsoseli and Tsavo West during Oct 2022. John Kariuki, our Driver / Guide was very patient and exceptional in safe driving, identifying species and going that extra mile to see that we all were happy. It was a mixed bunch of entry level Wildlife travellers, experienced wildlife buffs and bird watchers and that made the task even difficult to please them all but John Kariuki did it well. Vehicle was in exceptional condition and we arrived at destinations at exactly the time we estimated with all the breaks, game watching etc. We ended up seeing 30+ mammal species and 90+ bird species alongwith some fine lodge accommodations at Amboseli (Tulia) and Tsavo West (Ziwani). Thank you Explorers Kenya.
With a group of 4 people we asked for a custumized safaris, my admin focal point was quick and efficient to offer us what we wanted. We had an amazing guide Simon who were really nice, fun and could find all the animals we wanted to see. We started by Amboseli park the lodge where we stayed was impeccable half tent/half hard structure, good service and big buffet. The Safaris was fabulous, the combination between safaris and rest time was perfect. In Tsavo West, the highlight was the view from our rooms and restaurants to the water hole where all the animals were coming at only few meters from us. Even during our drive from Amboseli to Tsavo we have been able to stop for some walk activties and sight seeing animals. We asked to be dropp off to Diani Beach at our accomodation at the end. Big thanks to Simon our guide with who we spent 5 amazing days. I really recommend Explorer Kenya for a Safari in Kenya. Everything was planned, didn't have to think of anything and just enjoy the ride.
Jonathan is a very good guide who undertands photography very well. On gamedrives he gave us always the best spots to shoot the best pics. Marvellous ! We do recommend him very much 👍
Excellent experience with Douglas from pick up overall safari, knowledge of wildlife at a good pace. I will recommend this tour without hesitation. Thank you
My favorite part of the trip was the Safari and the lodge in Tsavo West. We saw hippopotamus and after leopards. The lodge was old but the view on the valley was amazing and the receptionist looks at a leopard all the time and we can see another one at five o clock in the morning. All the program during the 5 days was very good : you can see lost of wild animals in Amboseli and the camp near Kilimandjaro is wonderful. You have the possibility to visit a massai village near the camp, it was very interesting to get there to meet and understand theirs families. So, Zac, our guide who speaks French was very interesting, he knows all the details of wild life and he wants to share all the day even if he is concentrated on the road. The 3 parcs and the 3 establishments selectionned by Robert:camp, lodge, hotel are perfect, I prefer the pool of the first one, the view of the second one: ask to have the rooms above the point of water to see the elephants from your balcony, and for the last one I prefer the cuisine !
We had a great safari experience with Kenya Explorer! The back office staff was very responsive en helpful in order to arrange everything. The safari itself was a great experience, the lodges were lovely and our driver-guide Solomon was very kind and easy going. He’s well experienced and skilled/knowledgeable, with a genuine love and respect for the animals which we much appreciated. Highly recommend!
Actually we had a 12 days tour from Amboseli to Tsavo West, Lamu, Lake Naivasha and Mutara. From the very beginning to the very end we have enjoyed every minute of this trip : safari’s, nice drives through the variation of landschapes with great lodges ! Our driver Sammy was the right person not only for driving but also telling us about the population, life in Kenya, all with a sense of humour. Sammy organized a birthday cake present at Lake Naivasha ending up with dancing with the staff of Sanctuary Farm where we stayed at the Watchtower, a Special experience ! The scenery at the lodges in Amboseli, Tsavo West, Lamu Peponi Hotel, and Mutara were amazing ! Special thanks to our driver Sammy for making this a super holiday ! Els and Bert(ie)
We booked the 5 days Amboseli, Tsavo West and Tsavo East Safari in late October with Explorer Kenya and had an amazing experience. Our driver and guide Douglas was well educated about the whole surroundings and provided us with interesting information throughout the tour! He picked us up at Kenyatta International Airport in the early morning and then we went on a four hours drive to Amboseli. We then checked in into the AA Lodge Amboselie where we stayed for two nights (amazing food and great view of Kilimanjaro every evening and morning). Douglas took us on great game trips into the park for two sunsets and two sunrises where we closely watched elephants, lions, cheetahs, buffalos, zebras, giraffes and many more. After the two days we departed for Tsavo West. Tsavo West is a little bit more mountainous. We checked in into our lodge at Tsavo West and then went to the Rhino Sanctuary where we managed thanks to Douglas' knowledge to see even two thinos! Because Tsavo West is a little bit mountainous, we were pretty happy that we chose the Jeep over the Safari van as this enabled us to move faster between the different view spots. The next day we moved on to Tsavo East where we saw houndreds of red elephants and watched lions resting after their hunt with still blood on their pranks! At the end Douglas dropped us off at our beach resort in Diani beach. We had an unforgettable time on this safari
Martin Kamau was our guide and driver on a week-long trip to Amboseli, Kimana Sanctuary, and Tsavo West National parks. Martin was courteous, professional, knowledgeable, and just all-round fun to tour with. I also recommended him to friends visiting Lake Nakuru National Park and they had the same brilliant experience. Martin has been in the safari business for over a decade. He knows the game reserves like the back of his hand. He will guarantee you a great visit, and your time will be unforgettable. Plus, Explorer Kenya was a great safari company to work with! Robert is extra quick with communication. He efficiently helped arrange a group tour for 5 friends who were all arriving at different times. He went out of his way to pick up the deposit and assigned his best driver/guide. I'd definitely recommend both Martin & Explorer for your next safari experience! PS: instead of doing Tsavo East, we did Kimana Sanctuary, an often overlooked spot, but an amazing corridor between Amboseli and Tsavo West. Also a GReAT birding place! (And just 7min from my house, so you know ... I'm lucky like that!)
Wonderful tour between Amboseli, Tsavo West, Taita Hills, and Tsavo East. The agency allowed us to organize as we wanted and helped us to best set up travel and overnight stays. The latter in wonderful facilities! We saw so many animals (lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hippos, and much more) experiencing the true essence of the savanna. The thing that made this trip unique was the approach of our driver, Martin. He taught us that a real safari is made of patience, the pleasure of searching, and deep respect for nature. While many tourist tours rush frantically at 100 km/h to surround the animals as if they were at the zoo, Martin let us live an authentic experience, without rushing and far from the chaos. Thanks to him, we enjoyed the beauty of spotting the animals and observing them for hours in total tranquility, often without any other jeep around. He gave us a real life lesson and the possibility to truly connect with the wild nature. Five very well-deserved stars from the bottom of our hearts!
It was one of the best experiences; we visited many parks like Samburu, Amboseli, and Ol Pejeta. Guides like John were very kind, hosting us in the best possible hotels, each one better than the last in every park. The guides taught us a lot about the animals in each park, including the Big 5, Special 5, and many others. Without a doubt, our experience was the best.
A trip we will remember for the rest of our lives, everything was perfect from start to finish! The contact with Robert and Mary for the planning was very smooth, they responded quickly to all emails and inquiries. Our guide Mike Maina was punctual, nice and extremely knowledgeable. We learned so much about the animals during the trip. He read the animals and never put us in danger, he respected the animals and gave them space. Thanks to Mike, we got the best experience we could ever have wanted. We stayed at Ol Tukai lodge in Amboseli 2 nights, got a room in front of the savannah where the elephants move every day. The food and service was very good here, we will especially remember Abby who took good care of us. In Tsavo west we stayed at Kilaguni Serena lodge, also a great accommodation. The rooms here we experienced somewhat dated and need some renovation. The pool was under renovation and closed during our stay. The highlight of Kilaguni is the restaurant area due to the waterhole. We witnessed a hunt where hyenas chased a water buffalo down the watering hole during dinner. We also visited Mzima springs and got a walking tour with a ranger and watched hippos and crocodiles. There are no fences here so you have to stay close to your ranger. The last place we stayed was Satao camp in Tsavo east, a tent camp without fences. This was a special experience where the animals come very close, you are not allowed to walk by yourself after the sun has gone down and you hear lions, elephants and hippos at night. The food and staff were absolutely incredible at this place, The conclusion is that we will definitely book the next safari with Explorer Kenya and will demand that we get Mike Maina again:)
5 great days with Douglas, excellent game driver, who knows perfectly the wildlife of the parks and does everything possible to find the big five! Lions, leopards, cheetahs... we've been spoiled! Thank you Douglas for making our stay magical!
The professionalism and kindness of NS driver Peter accompanied us on our first 5 day safari. We visited East Tsavo, Amboseli and West Tsavo. Peter excellent person, always available, expert in flora and fauna. He became a trusted friend within days. To him in our biggest thanks! Chiara&Lorenzo
Zaujímavý spôsob ubytovania v murovaných stanoch (Kibo) a bufetový štýl stravy nám vyhovoval, samotné cesty a množstvo prachu už pomenej no zážitok ako zo sna. Naopak, všetko čo bolo možné zahrnúť do ceny, bolo zahrnuté už od Explorer Kenya a my sme nemuseli nič riešiť. Ako celoživotný zážitok jednoznačne áno, no ako každoročná dovolenka asi nie. Určite by som išiel do tohoto zážitku znovu a myslím si, že si nájdem určite dôvod navštíviť túto krajinu opäť cez cestovku Explorer Kenya.
A wonderful safari with the best driver, Douglas... he knew so much about the animals and was funny... Thank you🙏
It wasn't our first trip to Kenya, but once again we were fascinated by the unique beauty of this impressive nature! The planning and payment process was quick and easy thanks to Purity's experience. With Mwaruma we not only had an excellent driver, but also an experienced wildlife expert who pointed out a number of animals to us and also knew where we could find what we could find. The tent camps were all more than satisfactory, only the roads between the national parks were a particular challenge. Especially for the driver, who mastered them with ease. Apart from the rhino and the leopard, we saw all the animals and were surprised by the many elephants, whose population has apparently recovered. All in all, it was a nice re-examination of our many trips through Africa.
One of my best trips! Everything was perfect we saw lots of animals in the savannah and the lodges were very comfortable. Our guide Zack was very good and very nice he taught us a lot. An amazing experience that I highly recommend!
