This was one of the best tours we’ve ever had. Our guide, Gina, was exceptionally good. She is knowledgeable about the history and architecture of Nafplio, and puts the sights into a historical and cultural context with an infectious enthusiasm. She also includes a stop at a local grocery store run by her friends George and Nicole where we sampled local cheeses, olive oil and Mastika which was very fun. I highly recommend this tour.

Itinerary
Our tour guide will meet you at your hotel and start your walk from the Land Gate, the only entrance to the Venetian city. We pass by the Cathedral of St. Spyridon, where Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece, was murdered. We will end up in the Syntagma Square, where Venetian and neoclassical buildings dominate around. We will see historical buildings such as the First Parliament of the Greek State, the War Museum which used to be the first Military Academy of Greece, the Archaeological Museum which was the military warehouse built in 1713, on Filellinon square the old customs building since 1830 and many other monuments of incompatible beauty.
After walking around the old town’s picturesque alleyways, we will then climb to Akronafplia, the Acropolis of Nafplion and marvel at the unique panoramic views. Akronafplia fortress, originally built by the Romans and Byzantines, is the oldest of Nafplion's three castles and until the arrival of the Venetians, the town was restricted within its walls. The Turks called it Ic Kale (meaning inner castle). It was used as a Greek political prison from 1936 to 1956.
Continuing the tour, you will experience the food culture of Nafplion by visiting a local restaurant to taste local produce such as Tsipouro and wines from Nemea. These tastes will complement the history of Nafplion and complete a perfect tour.

This was one of the best tours we’ve ever had. Gina was our guide and is fabulous. She is very knowledgeable about the city, its history and architecture. She talked about Greek culture and concluded with a stop at her friend’s George and Nicole’s grocery store where we sampled cheese and olive oil and Greek alcohol. We highly recommend Gina’s tour.
Tour was great orientation to city and history , Gina was great and fun to be with she was great in explaining everything
Gina was our tour guide. She was most excellent! The old city of Naplion was a wonderful walking tour, very educational and simply a lovely town. Gina took us to an olive oil and cheese shop where the owners, George and Nicole educated us about the cheese making process and the health benefits of olive oil. George is a third generation cheese maker and the experience was wonderful.
Our tour guide Gina was an expert in all things Nafplio, old and new(er). She provided history, culture and experiences which are all required for a memorable tour. She (and her assistant Becca) had great communication skills and was very personable. Excellent tour, I would do it again. Thank you!
It was AMAZING! Our guide was so knowledgeable and gave us so much information. He was friendly and kind. We had a wonderful time. The walk was easy. We got personal attention and he answered all our questions.
It was a bit long for what there was to see but the cheese factory at the end made up for it. Guide was good
One of the best tours we took while in Greece. Our guide Gina was incredibly knowledgeable, going over the history of Nafplio with warmth and humour. We were able to see all the major historical sites and got a comprehensive view of the city’s history. The tour felt very personalized, with Gina providing more in depth explanations of topics we were more curious about. Excitingly the tour guide did not focus solely on ancient history, but provided us with an understanding of Nafplio as a modern city. The tour concluded with a lovely cheese and olive oil tasting at Anapliotiko Mpakaliκo. Would recommend to anyone coming yo Nafplio, especially with Gina as a tour guide.
We had a fascinating half day with Gina. Her knowledge of Nafplion ancient history tumbles out with her enthusiasm. We saw numerous historical sites and churches - beautifully made inside. A stop for wonderful lemon ice cream and finally a tasting of local food at The Grocery Store. Run by a 3rd generation husband and wife. What knowledge and passion for their range of local products. A real treat. Gina is a true and considerate professional. We much enjoyed her delightful company and her passion for her work. Thank you Gina.
Our guide, Venia, was very knowledgeable and thorough. She spent more time with us than we expected and was always able to answer all of our questions. After the tour we knew our way around the historical center and felt we had learned a lot.
Our hostess, Gina, was friendly and very knowledgeable about Nafplio. She is a native and has lived most of her life in the city, so she not only knows the history but recognized several friends as we walked through the old town.
Great tour Gena was great Knowledgeable and proud of her culture We enjoyed it and learned a lot Saw a lot of places
The guide and beauty of the village!! She was Knowledgeable and enjoyed our time Book with her anytime!!!❤️❤️❤️
Gina was amazing sharing so much history with us and making sure to show us the best of the city but on a relaxing pace
The walking part of the tour was very pleasant and informative. However, many negatives: # 1, it states that one of the 3 stops was to “climb to the Acropolis of Nafplion” – it did not go to the Acropolis; #2, it states that it would “visit a local restaurant to taste local produce and wines”, but instead, it took us to a small store, which provided samples of cheeses and meats; #3, unfortunately the guide had some personal issues to attend to and so spent some time dealing with that on her phone; and #4, it changed the “Land Gate” meeting location the day before the Tour and sent us an email notification via Trip Advisor, but unfortunately we did not see that 1-day-before email, and when we arrived 30 minutes early, we spent 45 minutes searching for the “Land Gate”; with inquiries to 4 local residents, none knew what that was, and on the 4th, the resident called the contact phone number for us, and located the guide at the revised location. So overall, an unpleasant experience.
Our guide was Gena and she was very informative, peppy, and lovable. She included a stop at local merchant who makes their own cheeses and we have never tasted better cheese. The walking tour was great.
Gina was our guide and was excellent. She met us at the tender drop off point and was knowledgeable, friendly and took us to a cheese shop at the end for some samples
No matter how high our expectations were for this tour, they were far surpassed! With our guide, Venya, we had an amazing sensory experience, taking in this beautiful city, learning about its history, and gaining an appreciation for the Greek people and culture. After the tour, we realized we could never gain an appreciation like we did from the tour, and it was a great investment of time, and great value for the money. Venya is a professional with a wonderfully-spirited disposition, and simply FUN. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour for anyone visiting the region.
Fantastic tout. Gina was very knowledgeable, fun and engaging. We had an amazing morning learning about Nafplios history, culture and way of life
We had a nice time with Gina, she walked us around town explaining the history of the area. Our favorite part was where we ended, at the local “grocery store” unlike any other! We sampled different cheeses, figs & more. Lovely experience
A wonderful tour that gave us a very complete feel for Nafplio. Gina was excellent and had a deep knowledge of the history of the area. We finished with cheese tastings with George which was a highlight
Gina was very informative and friendly, made our tour fun and exciting. Learned a lot about this small city. Would recommend this tour!!
So, we didn’t get tickets to see the fortress on the hill but this was probably a godsend since my family (teenagers included) enjoyed learning about Nafplion’s history from Gina. We learned about cultures, some political events and decisions, the significance of certain places, buildings; the art in the beautiful churches or outdoor walls/gates; some naval history… and then we had a wonderful culinary experience learning about how local cheeses differ/are made, how traditional desserts and meats are made, and traditional oils and beverages. The ambience was relaxed and positive. I felt enlightened. I would go back to Nafplion to hang out with Gina and learn more about why the locals are so proud of such a historically rich city.
Gina was great. A delightful morning! We saw much more of the city than we would have otherwise. A great way to explore this interesting city.
We were the only ones on this tour so it turned into a private tour. Sophie was very knowledgeable about both Nafplion and Greek history generally. We had a coffee and loukoumades at the end of the walk and enjoyed a great conversation about the things that interested both us and the guide. Great tour.
We were met by our guide Gina and joined a group of other people from our ship. The tour was amazing and we had a great time exploring Nafplio and learning how it affected Greek history. At the end of the walking part of the tour we went to a deli called Anapliotiko which was a highlight of our holiday where we sampled complementary locally produced cheeses and meats and were not under any pressure to make purchases. I would totally recommend this tour to anyone visiting this area as Gina was probably the best guide we have ever met on a tour.
My husband and I were greeted at our hotel by Gina who walked us around the small city of Nafplio telling stories from the past and present. Being a local resident herself, Gina conveyed her love and appreciation for local history, architecture, and customs. The tour ended at the local deli store where the owner of the store treated us with the local delicacies and his family's stories who was farming food about Nafplio for centuries. Highly recommended and entertaining tour!
Great way to start our stay in Nafplio. The cheese tasting at a local shop was fantastic. Gina was a great tour guide.
Our tour guide on this delightful tour was Gina. She was fun, knowledgeable and engaging. She provided the perfect amount of information on the tour. We Ended the tour at a local deli with amazing treats. I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you for a wonderful morning learning about your city. Stephanie
Gina was a fantastic ambassador to lovely sea side village Nafplion. She was lovely and fun person, very insightful of local history, great details on local architecture, and the food (cheese, wine, gelato and espresso). She also took us up to visit “the hotel” inside one of the forts via a defunct but lobby and elevator. She showed us a wonderful beach to swim at later. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with her! Say hello to Queen Gina for us!
Gina did a great job! Very well informed and expert on the local history and locations. She directed us to some other options and offered her assistance to us anytime.
Sophia was a spectacular guide! It was a leisurely walk around Nafpoli—nothing too taxing. Sophia was very knowledgeable about the local sights. Highly recommend it!
Our guide, Gina, was wonderful. She explained the history of Nafplion and gave us many tips on places to eat and visit. The walk gave us a splendid view of the city. Gina was very personable, and we especially enjoyed our talk at the end of the tour. The tour ended, in fact, with wine and cheese tasting that was exceptional.
The street full of beautiful shops. The guide speaks a very good English and explain the history of the city.
We had the best time with Gina! So glad it was the first thing we did on our first day. We loved the history and the stories that Gina shared with us. The views were amazing and we took so many pictures. And like other reviewers, just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we arrived at the beautiful cheese shop and were treated to wonderful foods from the area by Nicole and George. It was an awesome tour. So glad we went and Gina was a great guide!
My first visit to Nafplio, with my Greek husband. The tour guide: Gina, gave us an informative and enjoyable tour - GREAT to have a LOCAL guide !!! She was so kind to even offer us, to answer any queries we had during our stay. GINA, GINA - we thank you!!
Our guide Gina was so informative, not to mention one of the nicest people. We walked all over old town Nafplio and learned a lot of history. Ended up at a cheese and meat shop for some sampling of local products. A wonderful experience. We also had her for the walking gastronomy tour of Nafplio.
We had a truly wonderful time with Gina walking around Nafplion and learning about the history, architecture and culture of the town. We covered a significant amount of the past and also got some great tips for sightseeing, eating and drinking. Spending the afternoon with Gina was an absolute pleasure. We made a new friend! And we highly, highly recommend this tour, especially if you are just arriving arriving in Nafplion… It will help you get oriented and send you off on the right foot! Oh and she threw in a cheese tasting (not sure if that is on every tour?) that was phenomenal!! It was at a fabulous shop called Anapliotiko Mpakalico and we got to learn all about the production of a few of the cheeses they carry. It was incredibly special. Many cheers for Gina and Unique Greek Tours!!
What a wonderful way to get an overview of the city! Gina was a great guide and was fantastic with her knowledge and history of the city. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better we ended the tour with a cheese tasting that was so much fun! Thank you Gina for a wonderful time!
Out tour guide was excellent. Met us on time and took us where we wanted to go. She spoke very good English.
It was a terrific tour: as well as historical information about Nafplio and the centuries of shifting power struggles to the present, we had with our guide, Gena, a conversation about present day Nafplio and Greece and direction the country is heading. Informative explanations ,detailed knowledge of the old town and its influences , tasting of Greek products ...warm friendly experience overall. Europe
We booked this tour last minute and we are very glad that we did it! We took a very nice gastronomic walk in Nafplio with our guide Gina. Starting with traditional breakfast followed by delicikatessen and wine tasting.
We had a wonderful morning in Nafplion with Kosta showing us the sights. He gave a great tour of Nafplion talking about the history and pointing out local shops and areas to explore. We loved the view of the city from Bourtzi Castle and the boat ride.
Gina met us at the Land Gate and gave us a wonderful tour of Nafplio. She was extremely knowledgeable of the area and stopped to buy us ice cream and soft drinks. We feel we have a friend in Greece now and highly recommend her tours. She helped arrange a taxi to take us up to the castle after our tour with her was over. She went above and beyond to help us see all of Nafplio.
Our guide was a local who lives just outside the old city. The old city is tiny, but interesting to visit. It was presented very well by our guide. One disappointment: the "Captain" decided to not visit Bourtzi Castle that day. A wine and cheese tasting at 10:30AM was the replacement. The cancellation explanation was mostly double talk. My theory was that since there were only 4 of us, the "Captain" didn't want to waste fuel, etc.
Gina and her assistant Thessia were excellent!! I probably spelled Thessia name wrong but she was a young lady from Manchester England. They were both very courteous, knowledgeable about the city and it's history, and they added a bit of humor which was great. The boat ride to the small Bourtzi Castle that sits on a small island in the middle of the water was interesting. It was mainly a photo op because you could not enter the dwelling. I thought that we would be visiting the large Castle on the hill, however we did not. The boat ride gave us a view of the beach. I was pleasantly surprised that there was more to the city than I originally thought or that could be seen from the pier/port area.
Kosta met us at our hotel and took us around the city pointing out a lot of the historical parts. He was very knowledgeable and answered questions easily. Loved the boat ride to Bourtzi Castle.
Went on the Nafplion walking tour! Was amazing, our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us all around the gorgeous city of Nafplion, the boat trip to Bourtzi Castle was the cherry on top. Definitely a must do for anyone staying in Nafplion or just visiting for the day!
With the best transfer I have ever been in Greece. The driver (woman) laughy, polite and most of all professional..! The city walking tour is wonderful. I saw and I learned so many things about Nafplio. I recommend this to all.. I will be back to you... for sure!
A beautiful promenade, a cozy city walls with nice shops and restaurants. A panoramic view from the higher "castle", beautiful religious buildings. A hop-on/off bus, a city tour = train make it easy for you. A boat trip of about four minutes to the former home of the executioner and prison on an island off the coast.
