This was an excellent tour and was made even better by our guide, Ali. We started at 5.30am to catch the goat market which was definitely the highlight!!! Worth getting up early for. We made the mistake of doing this tour the day after we arrived late at night - possibly better after a good nights sleep. The mountains and villages were fascinating and were brought to life by Ali.

Itinerary
The tour starts in the morning, we'll drive towards Nizwa, Nizwa was the capital of Oman during Al Yaruba Dynasty we'll visit the famous Nizwa Market (Souq), a wide variety of vendors offer their goods in the streets of the souk from here you can find, vegetables, pottery, jewelry, handicrafts, Omani sweets (halwa), dates, spice, and souvenirs which are sold in authentic old market halls that few places can boast. Especially interesting is the Friday cattle market when the locals come to sell their, goats, cattle, sheep, and chickens in a circus style open marketplace. Please Note: if you stay in Muscat and you want to catch the cattle market on Friday you have to start at 05:30 AM, so please get in touch with us after you make the booking or mention it in the special request form, and we'll message you back.
Next to the Souq is the Nizwa Fort and castle the Fort it’s been built in 1649 and the Castle been build in 888, the Fort is a museum today and offers splendid views of this ancient town and the surrounding mountains, you can walk around in this impressive Fort and Castle with many passages rooms, the Fort is an architectural testimony to the economic and military achievements of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century, it was a military stronghold designed to withstand even the strongest of attacks at the time, even along the corridors, many traps were laid to deter any intruders that might have penetrated the defenses.
From Nizwa we drive up to (Jebel Akhdar) which is known as “Green Mountain” It is considered one of the most scenic areas in Oman, it's a part of Hajar Mountain Range, Jebel Akhdar is so-called because of the presence of green terraced gardens surrounding the villages you precede to the Saiq Plateau; this place can be reached only by Donkey for hundreds of year’s a variety of fruits like pomegranates, apricot, apple, olives, Grape, Rose, Peaches, and Walnut. Are grown here There are interesting walks in Wadi Bani Habib, Shrejah, Al Ain, and Al Aqur.
From Green Mountain we'll visit Birkat Al Moz, It has a large Falaj system that supplies water date palms, and vegetables for many orchards; it's listed by UNESCO World Heritage and Culture organization, it's worth spending some time walking and discovering the old part of the village then drive back to Muscat.

This was a very insightful day. Early start and late finish but can recommend this trip to the old capital of Nizwa with its lovely souks, fresh date tasting, circular fort and Imam castle, then the spectacular Green Mountain and lush banana gardens at the base. Our guide, Ali, made it a special day.
A very interesting and varied day of touring historical sights with Ali. He was a superb guide - thoroughly knowledgable about all aspects of Oman. Excellent English and personable. Great comfortable 4WD car. I cannot recommend this day trip with him highly enough.
A very interesting, informative and packed day. Nizwa is fully of history and it's worth taking the time to walk round all of the souq as well as the village if you get a chance - it was too hot to walk the village when we went so we instead took one of the guided (golf-buggy) tours which was worth the extra expense. The souq is so full of wonders that you could spend a whole day just discovering everything, but our guide Ahmed, ensured we saw the highlights. I can thoroughly recommend the Date centre (if you like dates and tahini of course) as well as the Omani Sweets; the range of spices and herbs is a sensory delight as well. The fort and castle are brilliantly done with some good exhibitions which should interest most people and there's enough gory history about traps to keep even the youngest enthused. The trip up to Jebel Akhdar has some wonderful scenery so just taking the time to enjoy it is worth it. The village itself is small but beautiful and standing just above and looking over the valley is breathtaking. If you manage to visit at the right time, the rose museum is worthwhile but do ensure you take you're lunch as food in the area is limited to large (more expensive) restaurants which limits your time doing other things; we took a picnic which worked perfectly. The final visit to Brikat Al Moz was a lovely end to the day and a chance to dip feet in the Falaj and have a fish-pedicure; a small detour to the Date plantation and Banana coffee shop finished everything off nicely. Whilst we went second week in April which is very hot in the lowlands Ahmed managed to shape the tour so we could enjoy as much as possible without becoming overwrought. His general knowledge and little interesting tit-bits of information added immeasurably to a really great trip.
We like our guide, Fahad. He is not very talkative, but very considerate. He literally climbed every steps with us, take care of our safety. He also showed us nice local restaurant. We have a great trip, and close the day very late. Appreciate Fahad's efforts to make the trip unforgettable.
My Aunt & I wanted to learn more about Omani culture & history & to explore the Nizwa area & mountains. This experience was exactly what we were seeking! Our guide, Ali, was hospitable & extremely knowledgeable about all of the areas/attractions we visited & was happy to answer any questions that we had (there were lots!). First, we visited Nizwa (the old Capital City, before Muscat). The atmosphere was pretty lively & we got to experience the cattle market, date market & souks, most of which were housed in traditional Omani buildings. We also visited Nizwa Fort & Castle, which was fascinating & offered incredible views from the top! Next, we visited Jabal Akhdar - learned about the irrigation systems in the mountains & the fruits & flowers that grow there (pomegranates & roses). The pink Omani roses are the key ingredient used in making rosewater in the area (which is reportedly the best rosewater in the world!). The views from the terraces were out of this world! Next, we visited Birkat Al Mouz ruins, which was fascinating & ramshackle & like going back in time! The area is surrounded by date palm trees - which makes for a beautiful & peaceful setting - the perfect place to cool down from the desert heat! A thoroughly enjoyable experience - would highly recommend. Thank you Ali :)
Outstanding full day tour. Ali was a fabulous guide, knowledgeable, engaging and passionate about Oman. Ali flexed the time based on our interests, including suggesting a quick (delicious) sandwich lunch to save time as we had spent extra time at the nizwa fort. He helped us navigate the souks (including the goat) to emerge with dates and spices. A safe driver, navigating the steep road up to jabal akthar and mainroads, we spent the journey talking about all aspects of Omani life. We loved the dramatic lookout spots, crumbling old villages (what a shame), terraces of roses, clever irrigation channels, and the date plantation. Alison quietly fitted in a mosque visit before taking us to the airport via a final sunset lookout across the valley. What a brilliant day. Thank you, Ali.
Thanks to Fawzi we spent a wonderful day. He was very flexible and kind and we get to spend time in beautiful Nizwa. He knows all good places for coffee and lunch and we really appreciated the visit of Birkat Al Mouz Ruins at the end of the day. Fantastic!
Ali is a very gentle and knowlegable tour guide. Can recommend the trip to explore a bery different part of Oman.
We has an excellent trip, especially worth the early morning start to see the Friday goat market in Nizwa. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable about the area - in fact he seems to know everyone, wherever we went!
It was a fantastic day exploring outside of Muscat. Jafar was my guide and driver, and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He deserves 10 stars for going above and beyond and for being so flexible! I cannot praise him enough for showing me the true definition of Omani hospitality. This private tour was absolutely worth it! Nizwa is amazing, and I was pleasantly impressed by everything that day.
I had Omar as my driver. He was knowledgeable and friendly. Overall a good tour and good day (albeit hot, whew!).
Hiking among the garden terraces, irrigation channels and traditional mountain villages was very special
Excellent place to visit with family, Jamal was a excellent tour guide and did a good job. The irrigation system was fun to see and explore. Overall day spent well. Will recommend to our friends back in the States
We spent a beautiful and interesting day in the mountains. Said is a very safe and reliable driver and a pleasant guide. He told us a lot about Nizwa and the mountain villages and answered all our questions. We can highly recommend the tour.
Wonderful trip with Mr Fahed, a gentleman very kind and patient. An extraordinary location with fresh air and temperature, the view is marvelous.
I booked the trip to Nizwa and Jabal Akhdar and had a great time today! All thanks to Haroun, our driver and guide. He was punctual, entertaining and patiently took us around the various sites across Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar. He seemed to know everyone in the village, which especially came in handy when we wanted to do a couple of pit stops on the way. He even went out of his way to help me make other bookings for the rest of our Oman trip and was empathetic when our plans changed. You can count on him in times of need. Coming to the sites, if I had to choose between the two, I’d consider Nizwa to be the highlight. Its a sight to behold amidst the mountains and you can count on getting some great pics. Highly recommended!
Very comfortable vehicle and friendly guide. Very good value. Well worth visiting and would highly recommend to others.
Jaffar was an excellent experienced and very personable guide. He knows all about not only the places we visited, but also about Oman, its people, culture, government, history, and religious practices. We travelled in air conditioned comfort, had lunch in a lovely restaurant, and experienced a 20 minute walk from one village to another surrounded by mountains and rugged scenery.
This is a nice tour, also for the very hot summer days. Jafaar was a very attentive guide. In the morning we went first to Nizwa to the see the souk and the fort. Afterwards we headed to the green mountains (Jebel Akhdar), where we first visited an rose oil and rose water production place. After that I could do a small walk through the terraces by myself, while Jafaar waited on the other end with the car. We had lunch at a very nice restaurant in a terrace outside, since in the mountains with wind the temperature gets more enjoyable. After a last beautiful view from the region from Diana's viewpoint we headed back to Muscat.
A very memorable experience with our tour guide Nasser Al Jabri. Starting the journey we were already discussing the history, culture, and traditions of Oman. He gave us a step by step plan of the every location. He also took us to locations that were beyond our expected itinerary, and showed us the perfect spots that showcased the true beauty of Oman with the added suggestions for the perfect locations to take pictures. He was always ensuring our wellbeing and that we were comfortable. There was an exchange of culture and tradition that really opened our eyes to a whole new world. He delivers information that really sticks and becomes memorable.
The whole experience was wonderful thanks to our amazing driver Haroun Al Siyabi. From pick up to drop off he was helpful & informative.
Excellent guide (Jaffar) who was knowledgeable and flexible about the schedule. The scenery, terraces, roses, rosewater making.
Faezi was caring, attentive and passionate about ensuring his guests had a wonderful experience. Highkly knowledgable and a great abassadot for all that Oman has to offer. We enjoyed our trip to Nizwa, admired the engineering of the irrigation systmes and unique rose perfume making inthe majestiv mountains.Recommneded
My wife and I really enjoyed this trip. In particular our guide Nassar spoke excellent English and was able to give us interesting insights into how the country has developed since the early 70s and also what it is like to live in Oman. He was also very unassuming and did not seek to push us to buy any local merchandise, which is something we have experienced in other countries. Overall we would thoroughly recommend this trip and Nassar as a guide.
From start to finish it was a great experience. Jamal is an amazing guide and super friendly. he tells you not only about the local history and culture but is a great laugh as well! Vehicle was clean and super comfortable, and always had water on hand! Would book again in a heart beat for another tour! Thanks again for a great trip in Oman!
Our guide Jamal was fun, very friendly and knowledgeable. In general we felt safe throughout the day and Jamal is a good 4WD driver on the mountain roads. We really enjoyed our time at Nizwa, Jebel Akhdar and the surrounding areas. Jamal was also able to help us navigate the souk and gave us recommendations on what to buy (halwa, coffee etc) and where to eat for lunch. I would really recommend this tour, especially if you are short on time in Oman, and I would also really recommend Jamal as a guide!!
Our guide Ali was the highlight of this tour. He was so kind, relaxed and thoughtful. We enjoyed every minute but especially Nizwa Fort (it was much more expansive than we originally expected). There are many photo opportunities so make sure to bring your good camera, all your things are very safe in the vehicle. Also, pack snacks because it is a long day full of sights and driving. Ali took us to a lovely restaurant where we ordered local food. It was delicious. When we come to Muscat again we would book any tour with Ali.
My family and I are frequent travelers and after several days in Oman guided by our wonderful tour guide it remains one of our favorite places. This itinerary covers a wide range of place from cultural sights, to tasty treats and hidden spots with incredible views. Look no further.
Amazing tour .. we had everything in the tour .. markets, forts, Scenic points, ruins, oasis, Falaj and amazing Omani food. Ali our tour guide was amazing and gave us a lot of info about the places we visited and Omani culture .. he knew the best places for views and took us to an amazing place which used 4X4 to the fullest capacity to get an amazing top view of the Oasis and ruins .. the local Omani food served was excellent. Overall tour was amazing, comfortable, on time and Would recommend this to anyone wanting to explore Oman and its culture 👍
Ali is an excellent guide and an experienced driver. We spent a whole day with him touring the wonders of Oman. He is very relaxed and did not put any pressure on us. We added additional stops in the way and he was very enthusiastic about it. He gave us a complete explanation of all the places that we visited. It was extremely valuable also the conversation about everyday life in Oman.
Fantastic tour with a very professional, patient and knowledgeable guide. As Oman in general - it was worth the steep price. No excessive driving, well planned itinerary, beautiful views - we definitely recommend to everyone.
My friend and I had a wonderful experience with Abdallah as our tour guide to Nizwa fort, Jabal Akhdar, and Birkat al Moz for the whole day! He was very knowledgeable of history, had excellent English, and was very kind at multiple moments - going well above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we were comfortable. Abdallah was also very patient with all of our questions and let us go at our own pace to take pictures and shop at the Nizwa Market :-) We will definitely suggest him to friends and colleagues who are hoping to visit Oman. This tour was well worth the expense for the high quality, stellar customer service, and convenience it afforded us !
Good trip dont want to write 100 characters though. Wear a hat. Wear sunscreen. Drink plenty of water
super tour ! wonderful to see so many different abandoned villages, the greenery of the terraces, the strength and the history of the Nizwa fort.... all this with the great story teller and guide Abdullah! thanks again for this memorable day tour together, which I highly recommend Benjamin
we had this tour today. amazing mountain views and sightseeing, just a bit tiring for a 5 y old child, but he managed in the end. our omani guide was great, perfect English, excellent personality, caring and attentive. the car was very clean with a lot of water bottles in the fridge.
Everything was very good. Our guide Abdullah has been very kind with us and he explained everything to us step by step. Very well prepared, really a good guide
Truly amazing trip - I spent 8 hours with my tour guide Ali Al Muqeemi. A true gentleman and such a kind person , he arrived on time to pick me up and went out of his way to arrange my itinerary to what I asked for. His historical knowledge of Oman was excellent . We first went to the souk in Nizwa where I bought Omani dates and an oud burner. We toured the Nizwa Fort a 17th century building – an extraordinary example of ancient Omani architecture. We then drove into the mountains to Jebel Akhdar (green mountain, in Arabic) – an abundant region - you’ll find terraces filled with roses in March these are scented Damask roses (which flower in March and are the source of the region's celebrated rose water). Later in the summer you will see pomegranates, and peaches blooming widely. Prior to going to a small village where Ali showed me rose gardens and terraces filled with vegetation we had lunch at the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, the highest five star resort in the middle east - which sits on the curving rim of a great canyon. It’s a secluded haven just 21 km from Nizwa, the resort features panoramic views from the cliff-edge infinity pool. We ate at the Bella Vista a Roman inspired restaurant overlooking the Grand Canyon - the food was splendid . After coming down from the mountain we made a final stop (before we drove back to Muscat ) at an ancient abandoned village Birkat al Mauz , once a thriving village at the foot of the Jebel Akhdar mountains. However, much of the population has moved from the old town, leaving it to slowly decay in the sun. The palms are still watered using a traditional aflaj irrigation system, which has received UNESCO recognition for its cultural importance. What a beautiful day and a fabulous guide !
A fantastic day trip! Fahad, our guide, was helpful, knowledgeable, spoke excellent English and was also a very safe driver - important when driving up a mountain! We had a great day from start to finish and would highly recommend.
We ended up with a spare free day in Muscat and Abdullah agreed to take us on this tour at very short notice and we were so glad he did. The tour was very interesting. We bought lots of goods at the Omani market in Niswa and then looked around the fort. Abdullah told us all about the history of the city. We then went to the Green Mountains and did a shortish walk. We could have done a longer walk but we needed to be back in Muscat quite early and so Abdullah tailored the tour to our timetable. We had a lovely lunch in a local restaurant and there was a really good choice of food whether you are a meat eater or vegetarian/vegan. We stopped at an amazing abandoned ancient village on the way back to Muscat. If I return to Oman I wouldn’t consider any other tour operator- Discover Mazoon Tours is the best!
Perfect day trip from Muscat. The booking was very easy. My guide, Ali Al Muqeemi, was incredibly nice and helpful. He picked me up promptly at my hotel in the morning and he went above and beyond throughout the day to make the tours in Nizwa, Jebel Al Akhdar and several other villages an unforgettable experience. I really appreciated that he shared some history of Oman and Nizwa with me and that he made stops to let me take plenty of photos. I also enjoyed the beautiful mountains, the date tree plantations and the hospitality of the Omanis we crossed paths with. Thanks, Ali!
We had a lovely tour with our guide Nassir. He arrived perfectly on time and was a wonderful guide for our trip. He gave us lots of good information and drove very well and smoothly for the trip as there was a fair amount of driving. He helped us around the souq and had really good knowledge of all the sites. He was very nice! Highly recommend the company and our guide Nassir.
Wonderful experience to be in the beautiful landscape, for the first time to get closer about how people life and work now and in the past. Highly recommend the tour and the agent/team, they’re professional and taking care.
Our guide Salim arrive on time and we travel to Nizwa. The fort alone is worthe the trip. Alos went up to the green mountains and what an amazing view. The temperature drops around 10 DegC, but still very plesant. Thanks again for a wonderfull trip.
Abdulla the tour guide appeared on time, knows the area and it history, intellectual guy, very helpful and nice. We visited Nazwa souq, barakat almouz village, had a delicious lunch, went to Jabal Akhdar, and some other amazing views and historical cities with an excellent explanation from abdullah. You gonna enjoy it.
Recently, on a long weekend in Oman, we decided we had too little time to create our own self driving or guided trip. While they had few reviews, the initial itinerary of this trip sounded good. The night before arriving to Oman, I used the online booking service through Trip Advisor and amazingly, it told me that the trip was "confirmed" for the next morning. The form to complete was odd - and asked bizarre questions like "what cruise ship are you arriving on?". I just ignored that, and tried to write down what I could - and what I wanted. I half expected that the next morning would arrive, and we would go to the lobby and there would be no one there. And I would have to haggle with Trip Advisor to get the refund. But the next morning - we went to the lobby - and our guide was there, waiting, and with a smile. That day spend with our driver Fahad was marvelous. We followed a basic outline of the NIzwa tour - and a climb to a mountain. But very quickly, we realized we in essence had a great and friendly driver for the day - and could customize the tour as we wished. Instead of doing the "look down on the grand canyon tour" we altered instead to go driving through points of the canyon. Without the driver, we would have missed so many interesting places and experience moments. Fahad was a great driver. He might not have been an expert historian, or a guide filled with lots of facts and figures. But he is a good and positive driver. He was willing to adjust and acompany us where we wanted to go. Fahad told us he respects this company - and that they will do whatever needed to take time for their customers. The vehicle was top class and safe. We felt well taken care of and would repeat this tour, guide and company if we return or if asked for recommendations.
Fahad has done an excellent job of making the daily programme varied, structured and at the same time pleasantly flexible. The individual program items were sensibly coordinated and provided a coherent overall picture of the most important attractions along the itinerary. He has responded to our questions at all times attentively and in detail. He managed to convey information clearly, understandably and at the same time interestingly. You could feel that he likes to share his knowledge and enjoy bringing his guests closer to the land and people. His friendly, open and communicative manner was consistently pleasant and also makes him very personable. This created a relaxed atmosphere in which you felt in good hands. We really enjoyed the day together and now feel well informed about our destination. Overall a very good guide, which we can recommend at any time.
This day trip with Get your Guide was great. Were picked up on time at the hotel. It was a nice drive to Nizwa, but very rewarding. What a special landscape. Arriving in Nizwa we experienced a small part of the cattle market and then to the Souq, this is different from what we are used to but definitely worth visiting. A colorful whole. Everything is within walking distance here so we continued our trip to the fort. Then by car into the mountains. Wow! You just have to do this trip. Definitely no regrets afterwards, but very tired😅
