Itinerary
The site of one of the oldest souqs in the country, this extensive marketplace is dedicated mostly to fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, all of which are housed in separate blocks behind the great, crenellated piece of city wall that overlooks the wadi. Part of the souq (nearest the fort) is dedicated to handicrafts and caters specifically to the passing tourist trade.
Nizwa Fort — the most attended monument of Oman. The fort was built almost 370 years ago and it’s based on the stream of water underneath. Surely, it’s one of the best castles of that period worth seeing. Then we’ll make a visit to Nizwa Souq. At the market you can buy traditional knives, pots and other unique items.
Wadi Bani Habib is a wonderful place to explore, especially if you are like me: curious and looking for something new. Here, atop Jebal Akhdar, you will discover the recently abandoned village of Habib, active walnut orchards, and an unused path all to yourself.
Here you’ll see how simple Omani people lived before. Also, you’ll have a chance to see Aflaj irrigation systems that are in a list of UNESCO World heritage. On our way to Wadi Al Madreen we’ll enjoy the exotic landscapes and oases of this place.

We joined the Nizwa and Green Mountain Full Day Tour during our Oman trip, and it was one of the highlights of our visit. It was a great opportunity to experience a different side of Oman, away from the busy cities and closer to the country’s natural landscapes and traditions. The tour started with a visit to Nizwa, where we explored the famous Nizwa Fort and the traditional market. The fort was impressive, with its unique architecture and history, while the souq gave us a chance to see local products and experience the atmosphere of an old Omani town. The highlight of the day was visiting Jebel Akhdar, also known as the Green Mountain. The mountain scenery was beautiful, with dramatic valleys, terraced farms, and cooler weather compared with the lower areas. The views along the way were incredible and made the journey itself enjoyable. The tour was well organized, and the pace was comfortable. We had enough time to take photos, enjoy the scenery, and learn more about Omani culture from the guide. It was especially enjoyable because the trip combined history, nature, and local experiences in one day.
We had a great time visiting these sites, areas and hikes with an amazing tour guide, Mohammed Al Riyami. He was friendly, knowledgable, courteous and above all a really great guy! If you get the chance to book Mohammed, please do. He made the visits accessible and interesting, as well as fun.
Totally amazing great tour guide excellent English knowledgeable and interactive with all members of the group
Nizwa and the Wadi experience were both interesting and breathtaking beautiful! Our traditional lunch was very tasty. And Azan, our guide was the epitome of knowledge and Omani curtesy.
We had an excellent day trip to Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar with our guide, Asaad. The tour was very well organized and paced, allowing enough time to explore without feeling rushed. Nizwa Fort and the souq were fascinating, and Asaad explained the history and local traditions clearly and thoughtfully, adding context that made the visit much more meaningful. The drive to Jebel Akhdar was comfortable and safe, and the views along the way were absolutely stunning. Once in the mountains, Asaad knew the best viewpoints and spots to stop for photos, which made the experience even better. What really stood out was Asaad’s professionalism and attitude. He was encouraging, friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive to our comfort throughout the day. He answered all questions patiently and shared many insights about Omani culture and daily life, not just the tourist highlights. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oman who wants to see both historical sites and breathtaking nature in one day, especially with a guide who genuinely cares about providing a high-quality experience
My wife and me had a wonderful tour from Maskat, to Nizwa, to the Green mountains and back to Maskat together with another couple and Qais as our Guide. It was a trip I will remember throughout my life. My wife and me really enjoyed the tour with Qais who explained and brought us closer to the history, customs, culture and tastes of Oman at all of our tour stations. Qais has a super sense of humor, next to English very impressive German skills, takes all questions and gave us all the freedom to explore the different locations. He is very international, knowledgeable, hospital and open minded. Qais is a very experienced and safe driver. Thank you Qais see you in Germany. Best Sayed and Nilofar
I felt guided like by a friend, not a tour guide. The whole experience was easy, warm, and genuinely pleasant thanks to our amazing guide—and even better person—Mohammad. The entire tour was so well thought through. We managed to see places that would normally feel hard to cover in one day, yet everything felt smooth, relaxed, cozy, and friendly. I’ve honestly never enjoyed a tour as much as I did yesterday.
We were picked up on time by Mohammed, our driver and guide who did a great job of looking after us for the day. The programme was very varied and Mohammed’s knowledgeable and clear explanations taught us so much about Oman. He was a credit to his tour company and to his country and has left us with many wonderful memories.
A great day out with 3 of us, with a knowledgeable and inforamtive guide. Mohammed looked after us well and was very hospitable. A lot packed into one day with a tour of the fort and visit to the souq in Nizwa. Then up an incredibly steep road to the green mountain with spectacular views and a tour around on top with lunch. Plenty of photo stops, managed to stop in Birkat al Mouz as sun went down to get some great photo's.
My guide, Mohammed Ali, was excellent, both in his local knowledge and in being ultra helpful. I was going to a friend’s place for dinner that evening and then guide went out of his way to help me, speaking to my friend and finding a safe taxi to get me there. He made sure the taxi driver had both his and my friend’s details so that they could ensure I got there safely. The locations we visited were beautiful. We were a small group of four and everyone in the group was friendly.
Mac was our operator. He was brilliant. Mac has a deep knowledge of the culture and was a pleasure to spend the day with. Don’t miss this day trip !! You must go !! Beautiful scenery and more !!
This was great! Khalid was very good and showed us the best parts of the Nizwa souq and fort. Jabal akhdar was very beautiful and the sites were great!
The trip among the mountains is espectacular. Once in Nizwa, the visit of Date Market is a must to taste different types of dates. The zouk is not big but good enough to find souvernirs. The Fort is really worth of visiting. The interior is beautiful. Perfect place to get good pictures. We had a very good and friendly guide Mohammed that was explaining not only about the places we visited but also about the Omaní life. The lunch was simple but very tasty. In out way back we visited the small old village Bait al Sabat. Definetely good place to take last pictures.
I visited Nizwa for first time through GidOman , my tour Guide was Gamal. A local expert, I did full day trip in different destinations starting from the market, fort to local places and hiking in mountain then to berkat almooz that was registered in UNESCO. He introduced me to full history, hidden gems and nice resturant. I highly recommend Gamal and GidOman for your next trip to Nizwa. Enjoy and thanks for all
I enjoyed the tour. Yaqoob was very friendly and helpful and was very knowledgeable. The view from the mountain was lovely.
Great tour throughout. Our tour guide Ali was amazing and his passion for Oman really came across. The market is a great place to pick up gifts.
We did this trip as a family group of 3 and had a fabulous day puts Mohammed was our guide and communicated ahead of the trip confirming pickup etc. He drove really well and shared his insights into Omani life. We are pleased we chose this trip and would recommend it. We went on a Friday when the animal market was running at Nizwrah which made it even more special. Thank you Mohammed.
Hamish our guide was great kept us informed and entertained with information on Nizwa ,the souq and fort. Drove us expertly up to the green mountain, cool spectacular view. Definitely recommended
Only Nizwa port was amazing, but Green Mountain was very much below the expeccation, We tought going to Misfah but it was not, the stops we went were no value at all
It was an easy, relaxing and fun experience. After an exhausting Wadi Sham on previous day, we took it easy. The views were amazing, the fort is interesting (loved the doors), good introduction to local sweets at the souk, and a very good lunch. Our guide Hisham took great care of our group of four.
I had an amazing day going to Nizwa and green mountain! Our guide Qais was the best ever! Kind, informative, funny, well-structured and yet laid back he guided us the entire day! I would join any tour with guide Qais (and have travelled to 75 countries so have a long and wide record of tours globally!) Good vehicle (and Qais was a very good and safe driver too)! Thank you for sharing and showing Omani hospitability! 🙏💝🙏
We had an amazing experience! Being in a smaller group allowed us to take our time visiting and learning about each place. Ali, our tour guide, was fantastic—he shared insights about Oman's history and took us to unique local spots away from the tourist crowds. The lunch was also excellent. Highly recommend this tour!
Great view and informative guide! They were responsive and flexible with my schedule, which made me feel comfortable.
Such an amazing tour! My first time in Oman as a solo traveler so I decided to join this tour with 3 others which was the best decision. Abdul was an amazing guide and very knowledgeable about Oman and all the sites. The day was perfectly paced, and we got to see so many beautiful places. This was a highlight of my entire trip, and would definitely book with Adbul again next time!
It was great trip to Nizwa and Jabal Al Akhdar. Our guide Khalid made us feel very comfortable. I recommend.
Our guide Khalid was very knowledgeable about everything in Oman and an experienced driver. Nizwa fort and castle and the Green Mountains are must see.
Our guide was Abdullah. He was friendly, quietly spoken and knowledgeable about the places we visited. He was also a careful driver. Lunch was tasty. The stops were interesting. Nizwa souk is definitely set up for tourists with lots of free tastings and souvenirs if that's what you're into. The fort is interesting, definitely opened my eyes to all the uses of dates and date palms! Green Mountain is lovely and so different from the landscape you'll see on the way there. Do note that there is often a fair bit of haze, which probably depends on the time of year, so the view isn't crystal clear. The car was comfortable, though I was in the front seat.
Decent value as in you get what you pay for. Comfortable car, excellent guide (Thank you Ali). Very interesting to learn about the culture and history of Oman.
If I book a not private tour it mean that I travel in a Van or little bus NOT four guest in a car. I am 76 and I seat 4 hours in the middle without support for the head and in a narrow space. Never again The driver was professional and gently
Scenic views on the way from Muscat to Nizwa. Bought some Omani Halwa from Nizwa Souq. Here got to see authentic Omani culture. Next we went to the Jabal Al Akhdar mountain ride. Peaceful and beautiful experience we had over here. Our guide Yaqoob provided lot of cultural information about Oman and was very friendly.
Great trip/experience. Private tour to Nizwa and Green mountain. We visited the livestock auction market, a guided tour of the fort, food market then headed to the green mountain. The views were beautiful. Jamal is a nice person and good guide.
It was fun.. we make a friends and see Nizwa and Green Mountain. Trip was great. We like it all of it.
The tour is very excelant show the most old city of oman. Nizwa with old market and old towers Then the wounderful place with water channels, bannana and Palm trees. Then climb to green montain with the most beurtiful grean cascades of flowers and pompegrants The tour guide, Mr Yagoyb ahabsi, was very helpful and show the best of Omani land and people Thanks Mr Yagoub, you make us love Oman more and more
I joined a group tour solo with three other guests. Abdullah was a fantastic guide - lots of knowledge and very funny. The views from Jebel Akhdar were incredible. I'm so glad I found this tour, it was a great option for a solo tourist who wanted to spend the day amongst other visitors.
My day trip to Nizwa and Green Mountain from Muscat was excellent. It was a great way to see more of Oman and learn a bit of local history and culture in comfort. Khalil was a knowledgeable and engaging guide. I have no hesitation recommending.
Views were amazing, the mountains beautiful and fresh and food tasteful The driver was knowledgeable and very kind. A nice tour
Perfect group tour for single traveler Small group , amazing views and informative tour guide . Lunch simple but delicious. Thanks Gidoman team.
Great complete tour to visit a historical place (that had an amazing restoration) : The Nizwa fort and then do some great trekking at the beautiful green mountain with inspiring views. Khalil was my guide and he was very kind, patient and amicable.
Had a greqt outing with Khalil to Nizwa and the “green mountain”! Great guide and all around super experience to conclude my trip to Oman! Highly recommended!
A great day out ! Spectacular scenery and a wonderful way to see more of Muscat and the surrounding areas! Nizwa Fort and souk were an added bonus and well worth the visit. Couldn’t believe the mountains and the road we climbed - unbelievable ! Lunch was provided and was reasonable. Our guide was great and the car was first class. We also wanted to visit Anantara Resort which our guide sorted for us and was also amazing. A longish day but well worth it.
A very interesting tour that allowed us to discover unique environments, such as the mountains over 2000 m, the wadis, and the city of Nizwa. Our guide Qais, an excellent driver, spoke great English and was particularly attentive to our needs, demonstrating professionalism and knowledge.
Nizwa and the surrounding area are really worth seeing. The excursion offers a good combination of culture/history and the great nature in the mountains including short walks. In addition, as so often happens in Oman, you can experience the hospitality and warmth of the Omanis.
Beautiful day around Nizra and the Grand Canyon. The Guide was kind and very helpful. He let us take as many pictures as we wanted. Thank you.
Great place. Beautiful. I strongly advise. The people are nice, the food is good, the Awards very reasonable.
We were with friends in the mountains and in the ancient city of Nizwa. Very much enjoyed, the guide brightened the whole trip with interesting stories about the country and culture of Oman. The tour was 10 out of 10. The lowland shrouded us in its ancient and mysterious atmosphere, and the Mountains struck us to the core, and the smell of the Damascus rose is incredible! Everyone is advised to see this! Thanks to our guide and company GuideOman!
My husband and I wanted to immerse themselves in the history of Oman, the choice fell on the old town of Nizwa. We booked a tour and had incredible pleasure, not only from the ancient city, but also from the beauty and freshness of the mountains! It was hot, but the guide always had water and umbrellas for us. Client orientation, knowledge of history, courtesy of Ilya, made this tour even better! Thanks Guidoman!
We were in February, the mountains are amazing! It was particularly cool to watch rose water being made, it's o fun! Niza in general is a very authentic place with a special history and a stunning fort! We were actually shocked at how cool our day was)
