Itinerary
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is one of those attractions that you have to visit if you are coming to Muscat. It is one of the most beautiful and extravagant modern mosques in the world. Photostop at the Grand Mosque.
Situated at the heart of Muttrah, on Oman’s largest harbor, the new fish market is a tribute to both the past and the future of Oman. The city of Muttrah is known for its long history of commercial trade, its characteristic port, and its long-standing fishery tradition
Bait al Zubair now houses one of the largest heritage and permanent art collections in the country and serves as a real window on Oman’s rich heritage and culture.
Photo Stop: Al Alam Palace is the ceremonial palace of Sultan Qaboos and lays in the heart of Old Muscat. Built in 1972, the palace is a fine example of modern Islamic architecture.
Photo stop: Al Mirani Fort & Al Jalali Fort was built by the Portuguese on Sixteenth-century, its presence looms large over the harbor and contributes to the iconic view of Muscat.
Muttrah Souk, one of the oldest souks in the Arab world, is also one of the most famous souks in Oman, which makes it one of its top must visit place.

all important sights were covered. Opera photo stop could have been included also. driver was helpful 😊
Great morning tour. Very informative, a lovely way to gain insight on Muscat with a very gracious guide - thank you Albaraa.
Our guide Naseeb was very helpful and courteous. Definitely recommended. He looked after us very well. He took us to all the main sites of interest.
Oman is a beautiful and magical place. We spent a wonderful week and got to know all the regions and cultures. It was a wonderful trip for me and my friends.
The audio guide is very basic…you don’t get any info on the actual mosque and are left to wander around it on your own. The driver will only lead you to the entrance. The visit at the museum was good…the fish market was a waste of time, however, though I decided to walk along the waterfront instead. You unfortunately neither pause, let alone stop, at the opera house and the forts are only a photo opportunity from the outside…you don’t have time to go in, even if you were willing to pay for it. 30min at the Souks are to be expected but I would have rather spent more time seeing actual sights (such as the forts). For one person, it’s an affordable introduction to the city. For couples or groups traveling together, I think you‘re better off sharing a taxi to take you to the stops you actually want to see and spend as much time as you want. You won’t be missing much in terms of commentary.
Our tour guide Mr Naseeb was a great guide, very knowledgeable and a born and raised Omani man with a great knowledge of his history. Myself and my 2 sons (9 & 11yrs) thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We learnt so much about the beautiful city of Muscat and will be visiting again very soon.
The pickup was on time. All the stops were great. We missed the Opera House from the outside. We could have stopped for photos since the building is beautiful. However the biggest disappointment was the lack of live guide. We only had a pre recorded audio commentary... That is why 3 stars, otherwise would be 4 stars.
Guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was very flexible with time and a very safe driver. Thank you!
An excellent introduction with an expert guide to help us understand some of the history culture and people of Oman.
Not much useful.Only two things I enjoyed were mosque and museum. Those two we could visit individually.
A good tour overall. There was no guide, only a driver who did provide some information at certain points. Would have been nice to have a tour guide instead of an audio guide but it is still off peak season in Oman which may have been the reason. It was nice to spend a few hours out and about seeing a few different sights.
Fun tour that showed us around downtown Muscat. I think I could have done without the fish market but it was otherwise a nice time.
This is ok tour. However the guide’s driving cause my power bank dropped out of car and disappear. Guide said his boss will call me but not contact me until now. Worse experience
I enjoyed this half day city tour - my favorite stop was the stunning Sultan Qaboos mosque. Do make sure to dress appropriately on your mosque.
It was easy to spot the minibus when it arrived at our hotel, as it was marked with the tour company's logo. The driver was friendly and professional, and also made sure to check that everyone was dressed appropriately for the mosque visit before we left the pick-up hotel. We had plenty of time to explore the stunning mosque, the souk, the fish market (there's also a large fruit section, if you're not too keen on fish!) and the museum. The latter was a nice way to learn a little bit more about Omani life, and was also home to an interesting stamp and coin collection. The tour also included short photo stops and plenty of views of the city. "Shukran" for the lovely introduction to Muscat! :)
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the palace and the Museum were great. The Souk was interesting with everything to buy that you could ever want. A great excursion. Thank you.
Gand Mosque Sultan Qaboos, Sultan palace grounds, Mutrah Souk... Aircon bus with headset guidances for city main sights.
I'd booked a City tour through Viator and at 8:30 Naseeb picked us up. The tours were very expensive in Oman - I'd say double the price of most European cities so this first tour was a group tour just to save some cash. Naseeb picked us up right on time and it was only 4 of us in the group so that made things easier. Although he spoke English the tour was actually an audio commentary and he dropped us at various points to go and see the attractions. First stop was the Sultan Qaboos Mosque which we'd driven past last night and it looked very impressive lit up. It is the only mosque non Muslims can visit in the country and is, naturally, magnificent. The Sultan ruled from 1970 until 2020 and transformed Oman into a modern country that still adheres to its traditional values. There is a lot of pride about customs, dress and behaviour and it seems that the country is successfuly juggling western influences with Islamic ones. I'm not sure if there are any democratic institutions or if the Sultan rules everything or if there is even a demand for democracy here. The mosque was amazing but looked like a newer version of the ones we'd seen in Uzbekistan a few months before that were 600 years old. There is certainly a universality to Islamic architecture that Christianity lacks but there also seems to be a stagnation with no obvious developments in the last 500 years. Anyway, it was wonderfully peaceful to walk around and had lovely gardens too and the 30 minutes we had there went far to quickly. The next stop was the fish market but we really should have got there around sunrise as it was quiet by the time we arrived. It's not everyone's type of thing but the fish they had were impressive and were obviously freshly caught. I left Deb to wander round and crossed to the harbour to look across to Al Jalali Fort, one of the two originally built by the Portugese to defend the harbour. The city itself occupies a narrow stretch of land between the mountains and the sea and the mountains are incredibly jagged and rugged. We then got back on the minibus and drove to the Bait al Zubair Museum. This was a twentieth century Omani house, owned by a long standing government minister that was then converted to a museum to showcase Omani culture - clothes, weapons, architecture, trade and music and the differences between the regions that make up the country. Again, the 45 minutes we had here weren't enough but we did get an overview of the country and its people and left with a greater understanding than we had before we went inside. Next we had two photostops, one either side of the Al Alam Palace, the old palace of the Sultan that he has recently vacated for a larger one. The gardens were beautifully manicured although we couldn't go inside to see the interior we did see more of the harbour, the two Portugese forts and the mountains that both protect and stifle the city. It was actually rather warm by now and even 5 minutes outside resulted in a sweaty head! Our final stop was the Mutrah Souk, apparently the oldest in Arabia but not really our sort of thing so were back in the minibus early for a change! Probably of interest if you actually wanted to buy anything but we either didn't need it or already had it and we'd seen plenty of souks before. All in all the tour was an excellent introduction to the city and good value. There were places I'd have wanted to spend longer but by seeing a bit of everything it gave us a good idea of where to revisit on our free days.
Great experience & very helpful guide . Picked me up from my hotel & showed us ( sharing tour) beauty of Muscat. Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque so beautiful.

This was a nice short and basic tour of Muscat. It would have been better if the driver was able to tell us more about the places we saw. There was audio on the mini bus with headphones to listen to as we went to each location.
Excellent experience. Went around the city with the guide, who was super informative. Van was comfortable, and the timing of the tour was well planned. RECOMMEND!
The driver picked me up at the precise time they would pick up, the van had built in recording as you pass along to explain what you are seeing in various languages, so it was useful. The tour was a little tight in that you only have limited time to look around at specific points, so I felt in some spots, the time was very limited. Overall, I would recommend it.
Pretty good for the value but to be honest if you have a 2 or 3 people it would be cheaper to hire a private taxi and guide. Would be better if the guide also walked around some of the sites and gave a quick summary or brief before each stop rather than just rely on the audio. Overall was worth it and enjoyable. Bottles of water on the bus would also be a plus.
Really enjoyed the tour although it was an audio tour our driver was very informative and helpful. The Grand Mosque was beautiful and the little museum was well laid out and informative.
The itinerary provides a good introduction to the main tourist sites in Muscat to first time visitors or those with only limited time available
Trip was wonderful The value of what you pay is worth it Out tour guide was kind and accommodating. I have enjoyed the journey. Will recommend it to book. As this one is one of the most cheapest city tour you will find.
This half day tour gives me a quick hit on key points of interest in Muscat. I was contacted by GrayLine on when the pick up would be taken place via whatsapp and on Viator app. The driver was a few min late to my hotel, no big deal. We started at the Grand Mosque for 30 min, although it was advertised as 45 min. 45 min is more reasonable in my opinion. Next is the Muttrah Fish Market, and it also has a veggie/fruits market next door. Then we stopped at the Muttrah Souk, one of the oldest market for 30 min. I spent two min there ND decided to go up to the Muttrah Fort not too far away, which provided some great 360 view of the surroundings, but it's 200+ steps up. Next, we visited the museum, which as a great model showing all the forts on a map. Also, it has some good info on Omani culture and history. Al Alam Palace is next for some photo time. Lastly, stopped at Mirani Fort for photo session. Overall, it was a good tour, and in the van, it also has headphones to give info on different points during the trip as we passes them by. Good solid 4 stars.
The guide himself was so professional, well informed, considerate, knowledgeable about the area, & it was obvious that he is very proud of his city!
Good amount of time kept for key tourist points of Muscat. Audio guide gives a sound overview of Muscat’s heritage and history. Khaleel was our guide and he had good knowledge of local areas.
Was nice driver- guide. We were just 15 people on a buss. That's mean really comfortable and private .this tour was the best we get on our cruise. We see a lot.
The main prayer hall at Grand Mosque is spectacular . Souk interesting. Museum also interesting. Good trip
This is not a tour. Just a driver to take you to the palaces. You are on your own or pay extra for a tour guide at the sites. We were given 30 mins at the Mosque, which wasnt enough time and only made a 5 min stop at the palace and fort for photos. all in all from hotel pickup to hotel dropoff was under 2 hrs. If theres at least two of you, youre prob better off just taking taxis to those places. prob cost you less.
Despite confirming pick up time night before, the driver was an hour late! And there is nowhere to sit or stand in the shade at the Cruise Port Gate. The tour is just a driver with an audio on the bus. The driver only takes you to the sights, he does not describe or go with you to the attractions. All the sights are good - it is an interesting city.
Sultan Qaboos mosque was incredibly interesting! And Naseem was a very good driver/guide. Also I liked the souk and the ex-palace stops.
Fantastic experience, tour guide was in time, audio was good, Visited some historical sites of interest.
This tour was not a value for money since we listened to recorded guided tour and there was no guide to take us around the sightseeing places. The group had to find their own way round the mosque, museum and Souq.
No clothing cover advised or provided, as with other tours, wanted 16 USD, so didn’t get to go in mosque. WiFi on bus promised but not provided. Air con poor. Driver did not have good English, was not very helpful. No bottled water provided. Audio commentary poor. We booked on several tours, this was the only poor one.
You will visit all the highlights but by yourself. There is no tour guide. Only a driver who drops you off and tells you how long before pickup to next site. I guess you pay for what you get
Great audio tour, really informative. Naseeb driver was really helpful and allowed us time at each destination to soak it in. The van was decent, smooth ride and Aircon worked fine! Great value too, saw everything.
Amazing tour.. our tour guide Naseeb was very informative and showed around the city well.. the audio in the bus was also good and gave good info about city .. bus was nice and comfortable the tour started and ended on time .. would recommend this for a nice city tour
With not much time to spend in Muscat it was a good way of getting to see a little of some of the main attractions for a reasonable price. The audio in the van was informative but at times wasn't working well. The driver did introduce some of the attractions but it would have been good to have him walk around and explain a bit more especially at the Mosque. Make sure you have the correct clothing for the Mosque as this can take time to buy or hire. Take water and snacks with you as there is not alot of oppurtunity to purchase and in 4 hours you need something. Unfortunately we had to do alot of driving to pick up a couple from the cruise ship and then they didnt come off in time so made us late for the rest of tour. The museum was very good and driving around the port and look at the palace through the gates. Overall we were happy that we did it and got from it what we wanted.
Great experience and a great driver guide. This is not a full guide supported tour, it’s over the vehicle headset. However cannot Recommend enough. Perfect to see muscat in 4 hours and leave you wanting to see the rest. Super friendly and helpful driver too, added finishing touch to a great experience
Definitely NOT worth the price, guide was not knowledgeable and added nothing besides being a driver, stops were ok but could have been visited easily outside of the tour. Also we barely spent any time at each stop like jeez hold up dude. They also charge you a lot extra for pants to wear in the mosque for 15 just minutes. Bad tour. 2/5. Go visit on your own, rent a car for a few days. My friend and I rented and went to Wadi Shab and Bimmeh Sinkhole on our own and it was much cheaper that going with a guide.
A bit chaotic since we also had to pick up people arriving on the cruise ship but the pickup from my hotel was very good. We only had 30 min at the grand mosque which was not enough - you need at least 1-1.5 hrs there. It is still a recommendable tour if you only have a half-day tour.
Guide was caring n a young helper cleaned the car window while stopped to pick up passengers n it was nice n considerate for tourists to take pictures from the car ... audio explanations are clear n helpful pick up n drop off nicely arranged n the half day covered most of the highlights
Nice when you are picked up and drop off at the hotel. We had nice stops and time to make pictures for sure
I was excited about this tour since it had overall good reviews and I would be able to view some of the sites I really wanted to see. Yet, I was quite dissapointed. I know that the tour was an audio tour, and the audio portion was fine. I think there were two things that bothered me the most. 1) Our tour guide was friendly, but he wasn't much of a tour guide. Instead, he was more a chauffeur. He would drop us off at the locations and then say to meet back at the van in XX- time. 2) There were other individuals on this tour that were consistently late during the tour, so the tour ended up being rushed. If you have something booked for after this tour, keep in mind that the tour may run later than is stated it would take.
The bus broke down on the way to pick up so I was waiting for 2 hours. Instead of ringing me you WhatsApp me and I didn’t have internet connection so didn’t see the message. Your driver turned up 2 hours late and didn’t even apologise. We got to the mosque at 11am it closes at 11am, the driver told us we could go in so we paid to rent the appropriate dress to be told the mosque was shut, so although we paid for the entrance fee we didn’t get to see it at all. Again no apology from the driver. The audio was broken on the bus, so no audio. Dissatisfied and disappointed this trip left me.
