Driving from Muscat to Wadi Bani Khalid will take around 2 hours.
We depart early from Muscat heading towards the Sharqiya region, before we continue our journey to Wadi Bani Khalid. This is one of the biggest and most beautiful wadis that Oman is famous for. The wadi canyon is impressive, with its amazing steep walls and breathtaking crystal-clear water pools it is awesome to look at on its own. However, one can also enjoy a swim in the relaxing cool freshwater pool or just sunbathe. The wadi is so grand that you can even have the chance to walk deeper right into the wadi itself or maybe visit its hidden caves you also can have lunch there in local Omani restaurant. Ladies swim wear for Wadi Bani Khalid: Ladies must wear t shirt and under the knees (Bikini is not allowed)
Wahiba Sands Desert, where you drive off road and see stretches after stretches of pure sand and endless towering sand dunes. Here you will get to appreciate and experience the real feel and magic of the Omani desert. We have the chance to visit a traditional Bedouin house where we can try Omani coffee and dates (depending on availability), also you can ride Camel (OPTIONAL) and this is pay by yourself.and drive to the dunes and take lots of photos. After this desert adventure, we drive back to Muscat.
Driving from Wahiba Sands Desert return to Muscat will take around 2 hours drive.

Said is excellent guide and made sure to show us all places and explain the history and cultural significance of various places in Oman. He made sure we are comfortable and we dont miss out on any experiences. Highly recommended
We had the most wonderful day exploring Oman with Kahlil, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Our adventure began with a visit to the desert, where we enjoyed a camel ride and experienced traditional Omani coffee. From there, Kahlil took us to one of the most beautiful swimming spots we’ve ever visited – the perfect escape from the heat with crystal-clear water and stunning scenery. After our swim, he gave us the option of stopping for a quick lunch before taking us to the vibrant Mutrah Souq, where he shared some excellent tips on bartering that made the experience even more enjoyable. We loved wandering through the market before Kahlil dropped us at the airport, making the whole day completely stress-free. Throughout the tour, Kahlil was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights into Oman’s history, culture, and spectacular architecture. He pointed out so many landmarks that we would never have appreciated on our own. Most importantly, Kahlil was kind, thoughtful, professional, and an excellent driver. We felt completely safe and well looked after throughout the day. He also kept us supplied with plenty of cold water, which was very much appreciated in the Omani heat. We cannot recommend Kahlil highly enough. If you’re looking for a memorable, personalised day in Oman with someone who genuinely cares about giving you the best experience, look no further. We loved every minute and are already looking forward to coming back to explore even more with Kahlil!
Khalil was fantastic from start to finish. His comms were great- checking in with us the day before our time together. He was punctual and organized. Khalil's English is fantastic. We had awesome banter and lots of laughs all day. We learned a lot about Oman. Khalil took us to the desert in his massive V8 Toyota. He reduced the tyre pressure so that we could drive offroad in the sand. We rode camels, and went to an awesome fresh water swimming hole where cute little fish nibbled at our feet and hands. When the tour was due to end, Khalil kicked on and went above and beyond, patiently waiting for us at the Souk by the sea, so that he could personally deliver us back to the airport to help us avoid the cost and inconvenience of haggling with a taxi driver. What a fantastic, memorable day.
We had an absolutely fabulous day with our guide and driver, Fauzi. He was very professional and friendly and ensured we had a comfortable and safe trip whilst maximising our enjoyment. Wadi Bani Khalid was beautiful and the quite strenuous trip into the caves guided by Fauzi was rewarding. The visit to the Wahiba Sands was amazing - we visited a bedouin village before making our way up to the top of the dunes in the 4x4 with Fauzi's expert driving. We had opted for the 10.30am start from Muscat which allowed us to see the sunset over the dunes - truly breathtaking. We are most grateful to Fauzi for making this such a memorable trip.
The tour operator kindly offered an option to start our hotel a bit later at 10:30 am to see the sunset in the dunes. The driver/guide was so kind, thoughtful and organised that he chose the best position and timing to enjoy the wadi canyon and the sunset driving in the dunes. He explained Omani and Islamic culture along the way and gave us time to break and rest from time to time on the way.
Wow! What a beaut experience! We really had a day to remember. Fanja, Wadi Bin Khalid and finally the epic Wahiba Sands. Every stage of the day allowed us to create some unique memories and in a very relaxed way. Additionally, we were so fortunate to come on the National Holiday weekend as not only did we get to enjoy the epic sites and activities - but we also got to watch some exhilarating dune racing as part of the Bidiyah Car Challenge Carnival. This is all thanks to Jihad our superb tour guide! What a humble, thoughtful and informative guy! We really enjoyed learning from him and generally appreciated his calm vibes throughout the day. Thank you for the snacks and bread rolls for the camel too! We hope to take another tour with Jihad if we ever get the chance again!
Adil was an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable and funny! He had an answer for every question we asked. Wadi Bani Khalid was amazing, it was a little busy with other tourists but it didn't detract from the experience and there were plenty of opportunities to find a quiet spot to swim. Adil found us a quiet spot in the desert away from other people to watch the sunset. There was a lot of driving from Muscat but the time passed quickly chatting to Adil. It was nice and convenient to be picked up and dropped off at our hotel. Would recommend this tour to anyone.
Hamood was a great guide - we had him the day before this tour, and asked to make sure we got him again. A great flexible tour, we actually went off script but a great day
A full day which gave us a flavour of the varied and beautiful landscapes of Oman Our guide Nasr was very knowledgeable and a most pleasant man - nothing was too much trouble for him
The day trip was amazing. Our guide was just brilliant. He had an amazing sense of humor and was very cordial and engaging. He made the trip extra special. The sunset point was brilliant. Overall the day was well spent inspite of the crowded Wadi Bani
Who knew desert dreams and culture deep-dives could come wrapped in one epic adventure? I traveled with my 72-year-old mother who walks slowly with a stick—and guess what? It was zero problem thanks to Jihad, our 5-star guide and real-life walking wonder! He speaks English like a BBC host and looks like he’s about to step onto a movie set. (Seriously, he’s real good-looking with well-built physique.) From the golden dunes to the soulful stories of Omani life, this tour wasn’t just a trip—it was a front-row seat to everything you hoped Oman would be. And the number of cultural questions I threw at Jihad? Let’s just say he passed every single one with flying colors. If you want more than a postcard memory—go with this tour. Go with Jihad. You’ll leave with sand in your shoes and a heart full of joy!
Really good tour. The Dhow factory is brilliant, followed by a trip to the Gazelle Conservation area. A lovely refreshing swim at the Wadi followed by a spectacular sunset from the Wahiba sand dunes. We also opted to stay overnight at the Arabian Oryx Hotel. Well worth the stop with a separate lodge overlooking the desert. Great BBQ dinner and breakfast the following morning.
We did this full day trip with Fawzi Suleiman from Star Tours. The experience with Fawzi was really great. He is great in conversations and quickly warms up to you. He provides details about Oman and also brief about the places where you will be visiting with him. The car was very good and it was a comfortable 8.5 hours with Fawzi. We did go to Wadi, but unfortunately it was insanely crowded due to the Eid holidays and hence we decided to do a quick round. Fawzi ensured that we didn't have to walk and he did a great negotiations with the Police members to allow us to drive close to the point of the spot. The desert safari after this was beautiful with a unique experience of feeding the goats and camel who were a real bunch of enthusiasts who craved for more. The sunset point where he took us was mesmerizing. By the end of the day we were tired but came back with a lot of memories. Thanks to Fawzi for making this day special.
our guide Mr.Fawzi is so funny and he gave us lot of interesting information about each spot. He is born to be a tour guide. He made our tour perfect! we are really satisfied with his service on March 30th.
We had an amazing tour of Wadi Bani Khalid and the desert with Mohammed Aljabri as our guide. He was so kind, friendly, and patient, making the whole trip even better. Mohammed made this trip unforgettable.
Jihad was a very polite young guy who showed us and drove us around. His English was excellent. The tour was excellent value compared to some similar ones we saw and I would recommend the company and Jihad to friends.
We were collected promptly at the time specified, we had regular contact with our tour guide NASR prior to collection so felt very comfortable knowing he would arrive. We had a wonderful day experiencing desert life and then off to the Wadi’s for a refreshing dip in the mountains First time on a camel was great fun, driving through the desert was exhilarating and we sampled local carrot tea accompanied with Oman homemade bread one with cheese and the other with egg, all in all it was a first class experience allowing us to share local food and Oman life
Amazing trip, the scenery is stunning. Swimming in a crystal clear blue oasis is once in a life time experience. Our guide is Nasr, he is kind, helpful, welcoming and nice. Make our Oman experience unforgettable.
It was an amazing tour! Muneer had so much knowledge and enthusiasm that made it a fantastic experience. I really appreciate the effort he put into making this tour so special. I truly appreciate his passion and effort to make the tour unforgettable, and I learned so much about Oman's history!
This was our first time in Oman. We booked a tour to the Sands desert and Wadi. We really enjoyed everything. Our guide, Nasr , was very professional, friendly, and spoke English. The car was very clean and comfortable. Most importantly, he drove very carefully, which made us feel safe and relaxed throughout the journey. What did we like? Everything felt very authentic. We got to see real Omani life. Nasr shared a lot of information about Oman with us and provided detailed answers to all of our questions. We truly enjoyed the experience and learned so much about Omani culture. We’re very happy that we ventured beyond the hotel and had the chance to explore more of this beautiful country.
We enjoyed our trip very much. Muneer was an excellent tour guide, patient with every request we had. Visit to the beduin camp, camel ride and Wadi were great and we had lots of fun. Overall, I would recommend this tour.
We had a wonderful day at the Wadi Bani and in the desert. A big thank to our guide Khalfan, an excellent driver and knowledgeable guide who brought us to beautiful spots in the desert where we could enjoy the serenity of the immensity and full our eyes with wonderful memories. Highly recommended.
Wahiba Sands is a charm. Endless landscape of smooth desert terrain. We witnessed both a beautiful sunset and a sunrise. Highly recommend this tour and location. Be mindful to choose the right desert camp as this is what adds to the overall experience. Aziz, our guide was on point as usual and very helpful and organized.
interesting visit to dhow factory wow! onto wadi kahlih to freshen in spring water - desert breathtaking! Thanks Amer fab guide!!
What a breathtaking trip to combine the desert (must see as this is the desert as you imagine it) with nature in Oman. This desert experience is like one hopes it will be : red sand dunes everywhere combined with a sunset!
Great tour with our guide Jihad to Wahiba Sands and Wadi Bali Khalid. Including camel riding and swimming in the best bathing spots. We would book Star Tours again at any time.
We had a great day with our guide Jihad. Wahiba Sands was impressive including camel riding. Jahid then led us through the Wadi Banid Kahlid to the best swimming spots. We would book Suntours again at any time.
Amer came to collect us and was so very knowledgable about all things Omani. He took us to the Wahiba Sands and Khalid tour. Sadly a sandstorm was brewing so we could not see the sunset but the rest of the tour was amazing! We had some lovely local cuisine that was delicious.
First of all, I can recommend this tour to everyone who is visiting Oman and wants to experience the beautiful nature of this brilliant country. Ahmed, our guide, arrived at 8.30am at our hotel. Ahmed speaks very good english, asked us about our preferences, told us many things about Omans culture and explained us everything where we drived through. The drive to the desert took us 2.5h which felt much shorter due to our conversations. At the desert, we had time to take some pictures and enjoy the calm. After that, we visited a bedouin house where we saw some camels, eat some delicious dates, local coffee and bought some souvenirs. Afterwards, we drove about 45min till the Wadi Bani Khalid and the real experience started for us. This oasis is a jewel and we couldn‘t believe how beautiful this place is. Ahmed didn‘t gave us a time limit, he told us we should enjoy it how long as we want it. He even watched out for our bags, however, this is not needed since Oman is such a safe place. Our guide made everything more enjoyable and he even searched for a local dates shop to stop by, because we wanted to buy some delicious gifts. We can only recommend to do this tour with Ahmed, this is really a 10/10 experience if not much more!
We were a family of 5, and our guide was Khalid. With it being Sept and out of season it wasnt busy but we understood tht it gets very busy with both locals and tourists during high season.Khalid arrived on time with a air con 4 XWD... and our trip involved visiting Wadi Bani Khalid, and then watching the sunset in the desert. We were due to visit a bedouin family, but chose to go straight to the sunset for a camel ride and have more time in the desert. Khalid never pressured or pushed us and was so patient. Beware it is a long drive from Muscat to the Wadi (2hrs 45 mins) , khalid was very knowelgeable and answered all our questions about Omani culture and history. The Wadi was not busy we arrived around 2:15 after he picked us up at our hotel at 11:30. There is a restaurant and changing facilities....women should be appropriately dressed to swim. The water was very refreshing. Then we went to the desert ...desert hills camp....and had a camel ride, coffee snd dates. Khalid found an isolated perfect place to watch the sunset and it truly was worth the drive, with spectacular views and lots of time to take photos. This was the only occasion we checked the time to make sure we didnt miss it. As we were leaving another tour car was climbing the dunes and clearly missed it. Would definitely recommend this tour if you do not mind a long drive and or you should camp over....we saw a tourist in a saloon car stuck...it is definitely advisable having an experienced guide to navigate the sand dunes...take out air in tyres etc....and use the correct vehichle....... khalid was fab....thank you Khalid for some amazing memories of Oman...we arrived back at our hotel around 8:30pm .
Had an amazing trip with khalil aljabri at wadi bani khalid and wahiba sands desert. Khalil was very accommodating to all our requests and was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly! was an amazing tour and that was due to Khalil’s hard work! would recommend him to all

Thank You Star Tours Oman! I highly recommend this tour to other because we are enjoy the day with my friends and also to Naseer his a good guide for us ,We are enjoy watching sunset a lot,Thank You again Star Tours Oman!
I went on this tour and Said Alkiyumi was the tour guide for the day. He arrived at my pick up point on time and messaged me to let me know he arrived. It was a 2 hour drive to the desert, the roads were clear so we had a good drive getting there. Said was very friendly and informative and happy to answer any questions I had. We had a quick stop at Fanja market, where you can buy pottery, lamps, clay pots and dried fish. After that, we visited a little house out in the desert where an old lady making hand made gifts. You also had the opportunity to ride a camel. Had a lot of fun driving across the desert. After that we headed for Wadi Bani Khalid. Had a nice walk to the beautiful emerald pools surrounded by a rugged ravine and palm trees. The views were so pretty and spent some time in the water getting foot massages by the little fishes. After that we headed for a late lunch and I had camel meat for the first time. It was absolutely delicious and very cheap for a massive portion of food! Said was a very lovely guide who was very friendly and chatty, bought me ice cream and karak tea and was awesome company to be in. I would thoroughly recommend this tour! 5⭐️
It was really great that we visited a Bedouin house, where we were treated with wonderful food and coffee. Their food was so delicious that our kids were very happy with eating it. And the camel ride was also a great experience. After that we proceeded to Wadi Bani Khalid. We enjoyed swimming there.
We had an really good full day tour visiting the desert oasis Wadi Bani Khalid and then onto the desert. Our driver Ahmed was great showing us the sights. Would recommend this tour
I booked this trip for our family - myself, wife and two kids (13 & 15). We had a clear communication prior to the trip with Star Tours Oman what was included and what we needed to bring - for example that t-shirt was needed when swimming and that bikini was not ok. In the morning at 08:30 our driver Abdul Aziz fetched us in a big 4WD Mitsubishi Jeep from our hotel in Muscat. The car was clean and big enough. Water was provided. We had a pleasant drive to the desert. I chatted with Abdul Azis who spoke good English and he rest of the family feel pleasantly asleep in the backset. After an hour or so we stopped at a petrol station for a break and Abdul Azis kindly purchased drink and coffee for us at his own expense. After deflating the tyres - did not know that was needed! - we headed out in the desert to a nomad camp. Here we had pleasant coffee and dates in a relaxing tent and had the opportunity to purchase - if we wanted - some hand-made merchandise that the wife of the household and her daughters had produced. We had some great photo sessions by the camels and also decided to take ride the camels with the whole family (3 OMR per person). After this we headed further into the desert and then the real fun with the 4WD began... Abdul Azis was an expert driver and he drive us, with our accompanying screams of joy / fea, up and down the sand dunes. He parked on top of a high one and we spent some time there surveying the fast majestic view! The boys, being boys father included, raced down and up the adjacent sand dune which was great fun. We left the desert and stopped at a local restaurant for a very tasty lunch buffé. Sitting on the floor with cushions in the traditional style we enjoyed camel, goat, chicken, fish, newly baked bread, salad and drinks - all for a modest 3 OMR per person. The food was indeed excellent! Abdul Azis - being a smart and well planned person - had timed the trip well so we got to the restaurant before most of the other tourist vehicles arrived as well. After lunch we headed towards the famous Wadi Bani Khalid. We were quite lucky as it has rained a lot two days before and the wadi was really full with water, even flooding the roads at some parts. Swimming in the amazing and beautiful landscape was for me and my boys the highlight of the trip. In was quite adventurous as well - the current was strong due to the rains - so a word of caution - one must be a strong swimmer so swim along the whole wadi, otherwise stick to the calmer pools. Also beware that huge rock formations are overhead in certain passages - and being nature - there is no guarantee that these will not fall down, so keeping the voices low is advised to avoid inadvertently triggering a rock slide. We spent a bit more time here than was intended - but our driver Abdul Azis did mind and was very helpful in guarding our bags and taking photos of us all when we swam. Not it was time to head back to Muscat - a three hour drive. Once again Abdul Azis was very helpful and went beyond what was expected. He helped us stop at an ATM as we were running a bit low on cash - always needed - and also he took at to the best shop in Muscat for buying dates. This was a shop that tourist normally never find, so we were very happy about that purchased some excellent tasting dates to bring back home. We arrived back at the hotel around 20:00 tired but very happy! This trip was the highlight of our week in Muscat, it would not have been complete without it... it gave us a rich experience and was a lot of fun for the whole family. I can really recommend it.
I booked this program with 6 people. Our guide (name Ali) is very helpful. He organize everything very well. We would like to come back to Oman again. Thank you so much.
We actually did two tours with Star Tours Oman and had a wonderful guide in Musab for both. We really enjoyed seeing Wadi Bani Khalid and the desert for the first time, and then had a great trip to Nizwa and a nearby historical village. Musab was a great guide throughout, very knowledgeable and patient with all of our questions! We would definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to explore Oman.
Ahmed has been an impeccable guide and driver, and the desert was magnificent! The sunset was amazing
Both places are amazing and we had a great experience. Very nice staff. Our Tour guide he manage about everything and the time managed very well. But all good and great experience.
Travelling in Oman to experience the real beauty of the country, the Omani culture and their history. We are lucky to have our excellent tour guide he knows very well the places and he gave us the informations of each place that we had visited. The most highlight for this tour was staying overnight in the beautiful Wahiba sands desert, the camel ride, visiting the Bedouin people and talking with them about their life. It was really amazing trip to learned ne things. Highly recommend.
Really great trip great good guide - Muneer - really fun day out and about !! Even though it was hot it was still a great time especially at the waddi
I had visited the Wahiba sands desert and wadi bani khalid the trip was full of fun and we enjoyed a lot with the kids. We loved the wadi the water was cool and crystal green so enjoyable and relaxing to swim during the summer day. The Wahiba place is so beautiful with the lovely people staying in the Bedouin house.
Wahiba and Wadi bani khalid private full day tour was fantastic we had a great day with the guide. Great way to see and to drive through Wahiba sands. We had visited the Bedouin family and they also have camels we experienced to ride and the payment is 3 OMR per person around 5-10 minutes. It was worth and fun trip.
This was the most incredible tour. A fabulous day and our guide Muneer was very knowledgeable and did everything to make our day an unforgettable experience. We visited Fanjar market to look at the pottery and then we stopped by a Bedouin house to drink coffee and learn about their way of life. We then hit the desert, mile after mile of sand dunes. Finally we stopped at Wadi Bani Khalid to swim in the crystal clear waters that are found throughout the canyon. Just beautiful. Thank you for a wonderful day.
Ahmed was the best and caring driver and a tour guide I’ve ever met in Oman. We felt safe during the trip with him he was skillful for driving at the sands. We enjoyed the ride and to see the friendly camels owned by Bedouin people whose leaving in Wahiba sands desert. Highly recommend star tours.
I highly recommend the Wahiba sands desert and wadi bani khalid trip specially for a group of family or friends. Just like us we had booked this trip with a short group with my family and we had enjoyed, full of fun and so relaxing. We prepared some foods and drinks from home and we take it with us and we did a picnic under the palm trees at wadi bani khalid it’s nice to had this experience sometimes in our life.
