Neuschwanstein Castle Premium Small Group Train Tour

Leon is the consummate guide and host. My wife and I enjoyed a full day with him exploring this exceptional landmark. He was prompt and friendly from the start, and conspicuously reliable at every point along the tour. This tour requires a good bit of logistics to be well managed by someone competent and knowledgeable. He was a great man for the job, safely and effectively ushering us along two trains, two buses, in and out of the castle, and back to Munich, all the while providing time, space, and instruction so we could also enjoy the town and its offerings. He didn’t miss a beat, and most delightfully, he spent the trip sharing all sorts of great historical and cultural anecdotes. His personality is exceptional. Very gregarious fellow, and it seemed he had made friends with everyone along the journey, including train and bus operators, local shop owners, and various passersby. He went above and beyond to accommodate in every respect, and showed no signs of weariness through a long day. We highly recommend him. Also, we would like to thank Danilo, who was shadowing Leon today to become a guide himself. He was a pleasure to share the day with, he was a strong contributor to the experience, he made some useful recommendations, and we wish him great success on this venture.

Leon was a fantastic tour guide from start to finish! We took an all day tour of Neuschwanstein Castle and I’m glad we traveled with a local who knew which train to transfer to and which stop(s) to disembark. Throughout the day, Leon filled us in on the fascinating history of the castle and Ludwig II, along with general, interesting conversation about life in Germany. Would 10/10 recommend for anyone looking to go to Neuschwanstein with a guide!

Leon was an excellent guide! He was incredibly energetic and effervescent, gave wonderful recommendations for what to look out for (shops and what to keep an eye out for in the castle), and kept track of our group well. It didn't hurt that the weather was nearly perfect for a November day – cloudy with the sun trying to break thru, and only a few raindrops. It was a long day of travel, and Leon made sure we understood that as well as the options for getting up and down the mountain given the time constraints.

Was the trip worth it yes but not for the money. Just take the largest group tour to get you from Munich to the castle and back that is cheapest. Our tour guide was great but for the money just get to the castle and back as cheap as possible with a group and take in the scenery. You are on public transportation and I stood one leg of the trip 1 hour plus because the train was packed.

Leon led our tour and did a great job managing the challenges of the German train system. Despite train delays, we enjoyed castle views, the castle tour, and the beautiful town and lake shore. Leon gave us great insight into the history behind the castle, and also offered us personal recommendations for our visit to Munich. Leon was such a great guide. We hit a small snag on pickup due to rail construction going on but Team Leon helped us navigate that. He kept our whole group engaged and made the day so enjoyable. I loved all his little tid-bits of knowledge along the way.

The tour was a great experience. The castle and surrounding area was worth seeing. Coming from Munich was not simple but our guide did a great job of explaining and keeping us on schedule. He also had a great deal of knowledge and stories about Munich

A really excellent day out, perfect size of group. Our guide Patrick was brilliant, full of stories and facts, and he calibrated the whole day's travel and timings perfectly. I really recommend - i think we wouldn't have been able to get in half the stuff or learn what we did if we'd tried to arrange it ourselves, so it's well worth the tour price.

Great Trip! We were disappointed that the train tracks were under repair and we had to use a van, but the tour was great, and Patrick was a wonderful guide. A must-do day trip while in Munich.

Patrick was a wonderful informative guide and provided great facts and background before getting to the location and castle that made the experience a great experience and understanding of the history and story for what we saw and did.

We booked the small group train tour for the Newschwanstein castle. Unfortunately the train was out of order due to maintenance and railroad construction. However, they did book us a Mercedes 19 passenger van for 14 people. Needless to say there was plenty of room to spread out and ride in comfort. Our guide was Patrick. He was phenomenal and very knowledgeable about the history of the castle. Would definitely recommend using The Local Experience company. We’re heading back to California on Saturday but when we return for our next family vacation we’ll definitely book another guided tour with this company.

Lovely visit to Neuschwanstein with John. We had beautiful weather for late September…definitely dress in layers. You have the option off paying 3.50 euros for the shuttle up to the castle or 8.00 euros for the horse drawn carriage ride. Views were incredible throughout the train ride in Bavaria. The castle interiors were magnificent.

The guide was excellent - very knowledgeable, flexible and helpful. One of the best guides I’ve seen. Unfortunately am disappointed that the train was not working and we had to in a small bus. It worked in the end but the cost of the trip was very expensive.

Charlie was an amazing guide, providing interesting information along the way, without overwhelming his group. He was very conscientious about his tour group and checked in regularly with everyone to ensure they were all comfortable and enjoying the pace of the day. Although our train situation was cancelled, the company quickly arranged a small bus which was perfect for our small group. The pace of the tour was just right and the castle and surroundings were beautiful. The tour was worth every dollar.

Absolutely fantastic day! The castle trip was one of the highlights of our time in Bavaria. Everything was well organized, the scenery was incredible, and the whole experience was even better than we expected. A special mention to John, who was amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely made the day so much more enjoyable. He gave us just the right amount of history and context without ever making it feel like a lecture. If you’re considering a castle tour while in Bavaria, I’d absolutely recommend it. And if you get John as your guide, even better! 5 stars from us.

John was wonderful! There was a bit of a problem getting to the castle as there were no direct trains due to construction. John was very level headed and kept everyone together as we navigated the rail system /delayed trains and got us safely to and from the castle while delivering wonderful facts about Ludwig II and the state of Germany.

John was incredible. Very informative. Learned lots about Bavaria, Ludwig II, and much more about Germany as a whole. It was a great experience and he tailored the trip perfectly for our group. Meet up was easy and even though the railways were being worked on they made changes to the trip so we would have plenty of time to enjoy our experience. I would recommend anyone that is looking to take this tour to ask for King John!

John was an incredible tour guide and shared much knowledge with us all. He was very personable and made the trip an unforgettable experience. Neuschwanstein Castle was absolutely stunning and I would advise anyone interested in going to Bavaria to tour there.

Had a wonderful day trip. John was a charismatic and knowledgeable tour guide. We laughed, learned, and enjoyed our day in the Bavarian countryside. The castle and lake are straight out a fairytale. Five stars! Our tour was supposed to be by train but there was a disruption in the service so they arranged private transport which was communicated well and had no issues with the change. Something to know — there is a steep walk so if the tour group decides to take bus or horse carriage transport up to the castle you need 4 euro cash each way. I didn’t have any but there is an ATM in town. I was lucky to be traveling with a generous crew who paid my fair and I paid them back with a beer at lunch. The tour was very leisurely and I enjoyed very much our lunch all together. We took a Konig Ludwig beer to go for our trip back. Fitting way to end the trip.

A wonderful trip, which accommodating both younger and older members of the group really well. Our guide John (Johannes) was very friendly and knowledgeable, with plenty of interesting pieces of information given to us across the day. Had a lot of fun with our group and our guide Haley! Our group voted not to wait in the long line for Marys bridge, but Haley surprised us with a path to a “hidden” view of the bridge and the castle. 🤩 It was spectacular & no lines! The castle is one of a kind and the scenery is unmatched. Wear comfortable shoes and prepare for a lot of walking including uphill and downhill. We had a great time and thank you to Haley for handling the logistics of the trip as well as giving us keen insight into Bavaria & King Ludwig!!

Well organized and worth the money ! we had a great time riding trains to Füssen and visited the most famous castel. Our guide Johannes was very helpful and kept our group together. Definitely recommend it.
