Guided Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site Tour With Train From Munich

Alun met us all in the morning near the center of Marienplatz. From the very beginning Alun made it clear to us that the history, collective trauma, and guilt of the Holocaust alongside the blood-soaked, repressive political persecutions, and exterminations of the Nazi Terror Regime are very much felt in the undercurrents of the Munich and Dachau communities. He knew how and when to provide context and when to let us pass through in silence forming our own experiences and impressions of the many sites of unfathomable cruelty and atrocity. Standing in the center of the Appellplatz on a sunny day and having brought to mind the freezing and starving deaths of thousands as just another functioning of the mechanism of control, labor extraction, and death landed profoundly. And this is just one example of our experience. The memories of our afternoon spent with Alun in Dachau will stay with us for a lifetime.

We wanted to visit critical historical sites during our trip through Europe. Visiting the Dachau concentration camp was a very meaningful part of history, so we were very pleased that we were able to go on this tour with Alun Evans. He brought his incredible knowledge of the history of the camp to his explanations of each part of what we saw on the tour. We were impressed that we experienced the site in a very personal way with an excellent guide who not only took good care of leading us through the site, but also provided insight into the events that occurred at the camp qnd surroundingcommunity. The size of the group was small enough that we could feel like we we had a personal connection to the somber locations that we toured. Alun engaged the group in conversation on the way to Dachau and throughout the tour, and he created plenty of opportunities to ask questions and discuss our experience. We would highly recommend this tour.

Alun was an outstanding tour guide. He brought insightful perspectives to make you think and look beyond the sobering history in front of you. He had a deep knowledge of the history of Dachau and had enough experience guiding to make sure we got the early buses, beat crowds, and got the most out of our time. I appreciated not being lumped into large crowds and navigated in a mix of other groups. Allowing us an hour to see the museum and go off on our own at the end was also a necessary part of the schedule that my fiance and I both enjoyed. I would recommend anyone go on a tour with him.

Fantastic tour. Alun did a great job of preparing us for what we were about to see. He also set the stage for the history leading up to the Third Reich and why places like Dachau existed during the reign. His descriptions of life in the camp and the tortures and executions were vivid, yet had real emotion and feeling. I felt as if I were being guided by someone who had experienced Dachau first hand. In addition, the logistics of the tour were prompt and well prepared. Everything was on time.

Our tour to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site with Alun was an incredibly moving and unforgettable experience. I honestly didn’t expect the visceral feeling that came over me the moment we walked through the gates and onto the grounds. We’ve visited other significant historical sites and memorials throughout our travels, but nothing could have prepared me for the weight of being at Dachau. As an American, I feel this is such a necessary experience right now. I truly wish every human being could visit a place like Dachau and feel what we felt that day, not only to understand the history, but to reflect on the unimaginable consequences of hatred, dehumanization, and indifference. Alun made the entire experience informative, thoughtful, and incredibly meaningful. He provided historical context while also allowing us the space to process what we were seeing. Having him guide us through the entire journey, from the train to the bus and then through the memorial site, also made the day completely seamless and stress-free. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Munich. It was difficult, emotional, thought-provoking, and absolutely worth doing. Alun Evans was an excellent guide. For one thing he was easy to understand. I never had to figure out what he was saying unlike other tour guides on our 14 day trip. He handled the subject matter with care and concern for those he was guiding on the tour. He was easy to follow and kept the group together when warranted. His knowledge really added depth to what we were seeing and made the tour both educational and thought-provoking. The pace of the tour was excellent. We covered a great deal, but never felt rushed, and Alun gave us plenty of time to properly see and take in everything at the memorial site. This is obviously a very serious and moving subject, and Alun handled the tour with great professionalism and sensitivity. We learned a tremendous amount and came away with a much greater understanding of the history of Dachau. An outstanding guide and a very educational and memorable, albeit horrifying, experience. We were thouroughly pleased with our abilty to tour Dachau with Alun Evans. This location presents a very somber experience that we could not have really understood as well without the personal insight from his guidance during this tour. More than just walking through the spaces and visiting the onsite museum, Alun Evans provided in-depth information about the history of the entire town and Dachau, and the experiences of the victims of the camp. We had a very small group of participants in the tour that allowed us to get to know each other and encouraged very thought-provoking discussions about what we were seeing, what actually happened in these spaces, and how these observations connect throughout time. By listening to his understanding of the events that occured here, and hearing the thoughts of others on the tour, it helped us to process how to view this day, and it encouraged us to see that there were others on the tour that valued how history can be personal to all of us.

This was a very memorable experience. Alun really helped the group understand the history of the camp. The smaller group size was good as it allowed people to ask questions. I attended with my 23 year old daughter and we both thought that tour was thorough and worth the money and time. I feel like the tour was appropriate for all ages.

Alun was a great tour guide. The entire trip was well organized, well explained and we had a good amount of time to review museum on our own.

Alun did a great job of herding our 16 person group through the Uban and train station and then through Dachau. We learned a lot and enjoyed the trip. It can be a bit of a walk, but that was in the information. I enjoyed the solo time to walk through the museum. If I was to do it again, I would probably pay more to do the smaller group/individual tour. Alun knows his stuff and was great at answering questions.

He allows for plenty of time to take in the various sites in the camp and gives you time to process the enormity of the camp’s experience.

Our Dacheau Tour was excellent, mainly because of our guide, Tom. Tom, the Brit with the Wit, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. You could probably spend all day at Dacheau if you stopped at all of the exhibits and read all of the narratives. Tom was able to cover everything you really need to see in just under 4 hours. And he was just as entertaining as he was knowledgeable. I’d highly the Dacheau Tour by Radius Tours and I would definitely request Tom as your tour guide.
