The Death and Chocolate tour was terrifically informative and ended on a delicious note. Our guide was friendly, enthusiastic about what he was presenting, and attentive to our group’s additional questions. Pricing feels a touch high but the experience is a recommended to-do.

It was very educational!!! a lot of history and a lot of knowledge learned through my tour and our tour guide was very knowledgeable!!
How informational and historic the walking tour was. Fascinating facts about Bavarian families in the past.
Loved the Old South Cemetery tour with Katrina! Her stories were very captivating and informative. It's amazing how much history of a city you can learn from a Cemetery if you have a great guide. Highly recommend to others interested in learning more about Munich in a different way than a typical walking tour. Our group opted for ice cream at the end which was delicious.
Katrina was prompt, informed and a great storyteller. Excellent tour.
The tour of the cemetery was AMAZING, i loved every minute of it. The chocolate section of the tour was completely missing though.. We went to an ice cream shop after, but that was it..... so i felt like the description was severely misleading.
My husband and I booked this private tour because I enjoy seeing cemeteries and learning about local legends wherever I travel. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. She Told us about the history of the Old South Cemetery and lives and deaths of some notable people buried there. She spoke with us throughout and personalized some of the information as she discovered things that interested us. For example, she went into great detail about the more contemporary beer culture in Munich because we were quite interested in the stories about the old brewery owners. I think we even learned more from her in that regard than we did on our actual beer tour. After the cemetery, we were given a choice to get drinking chocolate, pastries, or ice-cream. She took us to a great ice-cream shop and we tried the spaghetti ice-cream. Our guide joined us for this and we had the opportunity to ask her all that we wanted about visiting Munich.

We had a great time exploring Old South Cemetery and learning more about its history and some of its residents. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, making sure the tour appealed to everyone in our group, ranging in ages from 9 to 75. We had the option of ice cream or chocolate at the end and we voted unanimously for ice cream, which was delicious. We'd definitely do another tour with this group again.
Such a unique tour! It’s more than just walking through a cemetery, but rather a great way to learn about the history of the people of Munich. Our guide was such a wonderful person, we recommend this tour if you’re into history, the macabre and a sweet treat!
We did a tour called Cemetery and chocolate. Katrina of Black Book tours was our guide and she was so knowledgeable about the history of the graves and the people who were in the cemetery. After the tour we had delicious sundaes. I highly recommend
Lots of wonderful information and great stories! Would recommend if you want to learn lots of great history!
It was a lovely time learnşng a lot about the history of the city with our very experienced guide. We enjoyed it alot.
I had a very good tour. I am very bad at remembering names so do not remember the guides name but she was super sweet.Learned some very interesting things and it was such a beautiful place to visit. We went for ice cream after instead of hot chocolate, which was absolutely amazing. I would recommend this tour.
Great tour. Super fun and informative. Guide was knowledgeable and engaging. Hot chocolate at the end was soooo good.
The Death and Chocolate Walking Cemetery Tour was a delight from start to finish! The combination of rich local history, fascinating cemetery lore, and delicious hot chocolate made this experience unique. Katrina was engaging, knowledgeable, and personable. The pacing of the tour was perfect and never felt rushed. We look forward to booking another tour with Katrina!
We really enjoyed this walking tour of Munich’s Old South Cemetery. Our guide was incredibly informative and brought the history of the area to life with engaging stories and thoughtful explanations. It was fascinating to learn so much about the people and events connected to this unique place. We also loved the cozy break for a sit‑down hot chocolate at the boutique—it was the perfect warm and comforting way to wrap up the tour. Highly recommend!
This was a different Munich tour compared to other tours around the Marienplatz and just what we wanted. The neighbourhood was a short stroll from the Viktualmarkt. A bonus was we spotted numerous interesting looking cafes and restaurants. That alone is a good reason to go back. The tour that focuses on the people and history of the old South Cemetry was quirky, interesting and informative. Our guide Katrina was a friendly and knowledgeable host. And her recommendation for the best hot chocolate to finish the tour was spot on. Would definitely book another BlackBook Tour again next time we’re in Munich.
A unique way to learn about the history of Munich while surrounded by the final resting place of those who made said history! Katrina is extremely knowledgeable, insightful, and clearly passionate about the graves, memorials, and crypts found in Alter Südfriedhof. We enjoyed the tour so much, we came back to the cemetery on our own later just to continue wandering the grounds! The hot chocolate was a decadent bonus to round out the tour. If you’re looking for a hidden gem of a tour in Munich, this is it!
An amazing cemetery. So glad to have had such a knowledgeable tour guide which made the whole walk through the cemetery that much more interesting
This tour was amazing! Katrina was so informative and kept the tone humorous and lively. The hot chocolate was delicious as well. I would recommend to anyone who plans on visiting Munich!
I absolutely loved this tour!! Our guide was exceptional, knowledgeable, genuinely curious, and clearly passionate about the history of this cemetery and its connection to the city of Munich. What really made the tour special, though, was the atmosphere. It felt like walking through history with a friend who just happens to know everything, and is excited to share it. We even made some new exciting discoveries together!! ;) The best tour I’ve experienced this year. Fully recommend! PS. Trust Katrina's hot chocolate recommendations! Truly the best hot chocolate ever!
Wonderful tour! Katrina clearly has a passion for history and we learned so much about the cemetery. It was really beautiful to walk around and we loved hearing about the different prominent graves (including some ghost stories)! As a bonus, we spent some time feeding the cute squirrels that were running around. Then we drank what was probably the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had! Can’t recommend enough. This was a big highlight of our trip. Thank you Katrina!
Loved this tour! Katrina was such a fun tour guide and was very knowledgeable about the cemetery, its history, and who was buried there. The tour had a great mix of Munich history, spooky stories, and some free time to wander the beautiful cemetery. And we fed some squirrels! Plus the hot chocolate from the chocolate shop was fantastic! We never would have found that shop without the tour. I highly recommend this tour!
Such a great combination - death, history, a beautiful setting and decadent chocolate! Katrina was very knowledgeable about the cemetery, its history, its inhabitants and some theories about a certain king’s death, and tailored the tour to our group’s interests.
Our guide Katrina was great. She was very energetic and knowledgeable about the history of Munich and the cemetery. It was really a wonderful experience strolling through the grounds and listening to her commentary. I would highly recommend the tour for those interested in the history of Munich and it's Bavarian roots.
Katrina, our tour hosts, was exceptional. Her commentary was lively and engaging and you could tell that she was really passionate about the history of Munich and the cemetery. Our group was small so you felt like you were on a walk with a friend; albeit a very smart friend. She went beyond expectation, not just giving us a lunch recommendation, but showing us where the venue was. We couldn't have been more pleased with the tour and the information that she provided.
We loved our guide and the cemetery was beautiful! Super informative and great for history buffs! Our guide answered all questions and was easy to follow along with! Would definitely recommend. It was a hot day so we got ice cream instead and we were able to chat with our guide about traveling and she even gave us some great local recommendations!
This was an amazing fun and insightful tour that I’m very glad I got to go on, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer pretty much most of my long list of questions. We went on a very hot day so ended up getting ice cream, which was amazing. Me and my girlfriend also went to one of her recommendations for a museum, and we had an absolutely amazing time. Highly recommend!! If you love history and great recommendations and good sweet treats this is a must when in Munich
It was a wonderful and interesting tour. We heard many stories about important people in Munich, and there were also a few scary ones. The tour guide was super nice, and we had a lot of fun. The hot chocolate was delicious, and there was something for every taste (even vegan). Highly recommended.

The Death and Chocolate tour is soooo cool & fun! Katrina our tour guide told so many cool stories about the history of the people who shaped Munich and some fun ghost stories as well! The cemetery is so beautiful and historic and after the tour we had delisious rum raspberry ice cream sundaes at a cool sidewalk cafe! Highly recommend this fun tour!
This was such a cool tour! If you are looking for a tour that won’t take your entire day this is a great one. We chose this tour to find something a little more unique than the obvious sights in Munich. This cemetery has great history and every headstone has a story. You could spend hours looking up each one online and reading about their prominence in Munich. Our tour guide was great and we left with a ton of new information. We had an incredible hot chocolate afterwards.
I cannot recommend Katrina's tour enough! The cemetery is the most atmospheric we've been to, outside of Paris and New Orleans, but with MUCH more history and incredible anecdotes than either. The guide has a more vast knowledge than we could even take advantage of during our tour, her next venture should be a book! So wonderful, and so much unexplored at this vast garden, we will definitely return to the cemetery when we return to Munich later in the trip (which is when I initially tried to book, only every day was sold out for later!). Don't miss this one... so much better than queues and crowds on many other tours. Fresh air, wildlife, and serenity on this one!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about all the history in the cemetery. The tour was very much a different view of Munich. Great opportunities for photographs. The chocolate was a perfect warm up at the end.
The Death and Chocolate: Walking Tour of Munich’s Old South Cemetery was an unforgettable experience and truly one of the highlights of our trip. Katrina, our guide, was exceptional. She was so knowledgeable, engaging, and great with both adults and kids. I took this tour with my 10 and 7-year-old, and they had a fantastic time! Katrina made the history come alive in a way that kept everyone interested. The chocolate was absolutely delicious! A sweet bonus to an already incredible experience. We learned so much about the city and its history, and I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Munich. It’s easily one of the best I’ve ever done, and we’ll definitely be booking another tour when we return. Thank you, Katrina, for a wonderful experience!

Katrina was very friendly and informative. We really enjoyed our morning walk through the beautiful cemetery and the chocolate.
We had a wonderful tour of Munich's Old South Cemetery and surrounds with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. She gave great historical background and context of the cemetery and norms for burials over the years. We really enjoyed our tour! And the hot chocolate shop at the end was a great (and tasty) way to end the event. Well worth the time in this beautiful city!
My wife and I loved the Death and Chocolate tour, and highly recommend it! It's such a great concept to learn about Munich's history by visiting the graves of many of the folks who helped build and develop the city. We learned about people, plague, personalities, war, companies, government and of course the six families who made Munich a Beer Capital of the world. It was terrific, and not lurid or creepy in any way. The cemetery is really peaceful and lovely to walk through. Our guide welcomed our many questions and seamlessly wove her answers into her narrative. She also kept it fun and often funny. The hot chocolate shop we ended at was also superb, and I strongly recommend the Mexican one! Jon W. Towson, Maryland, USA
As a passionate enthusiast of old cemeteries, this tour was everything I could have hoped for and more. It beautifully balanced history, local drama, and fascinating ghost stories, all set against the stunning backdrop of a historic cemetery. Katrina was the perfect guide—her deep knowledge and infectious enthusiasm made each stop feel like a step back in time. She didn’t just show us the famous names, but also highlighted some of the more obscure and unique tombstones, offering fascinating insights into the lives and stories they represent. Her blend of humor and fact made the tour not only informative but genuinely fun, and her attention to detail made sure no stone (literally!) was left unturned. Though the heat kept us from enjoying hot chocolate, Katrina surprised us with ice cream, a thoughtful gesture that topped off an already incredible experience. I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in history, storytelling, or just exploring a beautiful cemetery in great company!
Katrina was AMAZING! She was a fountain of information….professional..super friendly. She went above and beyond showing us the cemetery and other neighborhood spots. It was a great informative walking tour with an excellent bonus at the end! We will definitely be back to do one of her ghost or true crime tours in the future! What a great hidden gem she is!
Amazing time! Our guide, Katrina, was exceptional. She was a fountain of knowledge, and left me wanting more. Her delivery was entertaining and fun. The chocolate treat (ice cream) in this case, was the icing on the cake. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in this subject.
Unique tour with some interesting history…I was immediately intrigued with the tour title, “Death and Chocolate”. If you are looking for a tour with a bit of the macabre and want to know about the different side of German history, definitely do this tour. But you will also see some elaborate graves, remarks on their design and history. Some professions are noted on the markers so be sure to check it out. You could spend many, many hours here just meandering through taking in the dates alone. The tour guide takes us through hitting the high points and notable graves; the lady with rose, brewery founders, architects who built Munich, “Christmas massacre” memorial. If your into symbology, you will find some on the makers. There is one gold marker I am still quite fascinated in understanding the meaning. The tour guide was enthusiastic and answered our questions. The chocolate afterwards was a nice touch after a cold, wet walk through the site. We recommend this tour - easy to find the pick up location, good walking pace (no rushing at all!), easy to navigate, listen and hear the guide.
What an amazing tour! So many things to see in the beautiful cemetery, and the lovely guide Katrina is guiding you through history with amazing stories. If somebody is looking for something truly unique while in Munich, this tour is a good option. Highly recommended!
I am in Munich often with work and have done a few other tours with Katrina and Blackbook Tours, so I was super excited to see a new tour that she's been working on! Such a fun and interesting way to learn some more about Munich's dark history. The old southern cemetery is just stunning, and even though it wasn't the coldest of days, a delicious hot chocolate is always a great way to warm the soul. Once again, Katrina is a top guide and this tour was awesome. Highly recommend to anyone interested in some daytime spooky tours!
It was truly fascinating to learn the history of Munich from the headstones in a graveyard! Was a great spring day for a walk with the family and we absolutely loved the ghost stories and the dark history of Munich. So different than your “usual” tours you get elsewhere! The real hit with the family was the hot chocolate! They couldn’t stop raving about it so we had to do some shopping at the chocolate shop! We really enjoyed this. I know you would too!
We loved this tour! The cemetery was beautiful, the hot chocolate was legendary, the stories were fascinating, and the guide was marvellous. The tour covered historical events and people, dark history and ghost stories. Highly recommend for all the dark tourists visiting Munich!
We were warmly welcomed by the manager of BLACKBOOK TOURS, Katrina, at Sendlinger Tor, and from there we walked to the Old South Cemetery. If you are interested in history or historical grave sites (like we are) this tour is a must in Munich. There are a number of graves of famous people, such as Justus von Liebig, Fraunhofer, Pschorr, Spaten, various city architects such as Klenze, Gärtner, etc., Aunt Frieda from Ludwig Thoma's Rascal Stories, the painter Spitzweg, the sculptor from BAVARIA Ludwig von Schwanthaler as well several royal servants at the “Old South Cemetery”. Even if you don't know anything about the "famous people", the grave sites, some of which are very magnificent, are worth a visit. At the end of the tour we sat down for a “half a beer” in the Faun, as the Götterspeise café was closed due to the holiday. (@Katrina: thank you very much for the drinking chocolate, it tastes delicious!!!) We were thrilled with this tour, congratulations to Katrina for putting it together so well.
