The construction of the Plaza Independencia in the space occupied by the old Citadel was an idea carried out by the architect Carlo Zucchi in 1837, when it was decided to expand the old colonial city, as part of a general planning plan. We will report why they are ornamented with 33 palm trees, in homage to the Thirty-Three Orientals who participated in the Liberation Crusade. From the Plaza we can appreciate the Palacio Salvo, the Solis Theater, the Executive Tower, the Estevez Palace and the old Puerta de la Ciudadela.
The Legislative Palace is the seat of the Legislative Power of Uruguay. The General Assembly works there, which is made up of two chambers that meet separately or jointly depending on the circumstances: the House of Representatives and the House of Senators. The construction of the work was in charge of the Italian architect Gaetano Moretti, who counted on the collaboration of the Uruguayan architect Eugenio Baroffio.
The Mercado Agrícola de Montevideo is one of the largest agricultural markets in Montevideo. In 2006, the Agricultural Market became the property of the Montevideo City Council and it began to plan its reconstruction, a project that was accompanied by a revitalization process of the entire surrounding area. Also promoting an urban recovery and repopulation of the neighborhood.
The work is inspired by the gauchos, rural life and the old cargo transport prior to the arrival of the automobile and the railroad.
The Centennial Stadium is a soccer stadium that is among those that hosted the World Cup. First World Cup stadium.
Stop for panoramic photography of the Montevideo sign with the view of Pocitos beach.
The neighborhood became the most luxurious residential area in the city, where the upper class of the city largely lives. In the north Pierre Durandeau planted thousands of trees and developed the current Rivera Park. Carrasco spread to the exclusive area of Miramar, where a large hotel now converted into the Naval School operated, and to the north in popular and industrial neighborhoods such as Carrasco Norte and Paso Carrasco. La Rambla de Montevideo finds in Carrasco one of its most successful manifestations from the landscape point of view. Carrasco Beach, aerial shot, Montevideo, Uruguay The Hotel Carrasco was renovated and is operated by the French hotel chain Sofitel.
At the end of the tour at Sofitel Montevideo Carrasco, passengers can choose to return to the hotel or stay at the Port Market (return on your own)

The chief problem with the tour was that we were staying in the first hotel among the Pickup points, so we traveled in two different buses for an hour and a half to more than a dozen hotels across the city before the tour even began. The least the tour company could do is alert you to the fact that half of the tour will be sitting on a bus and picking up other passengers. The tour itself was just OK. The tour guide spoke in English, Spanish, and Portuguese alternately rather than speaking in English, which was our expectation having checked English when requesting the tour language. The tour didn’t cost very much, and we didn’t get very much.
Amazing way to visit the important places in Uruguay , everting on time and really kind the personal always help you and explain everything
Despite the really bad weather this was a very good and concise city tour of Montevideo. Our guide gave a lot of information and spoke perfect English. If you just want to see the main sights of the city in a few hours i recommend this tour.
This was a good introduction to the city and gave us many ideas of what else we could explore. It was a bit of extra bus time, but still enjoyable.
Very good experience, excellent tour guide Liam. Very informed, and accommodating. Very communicative as well.
Very enjoyable we really enjoyed this tour and our tour guide Ian who spoke very good English. Very knowledgeable on all things Uruguay.
This is a bus tour in multiple languages together. I believe there are 6 stops. It is useful on the first day of a visit to Montevideo to see some noteworthy buildings and plazas. However, the guide only provided info while in the bus and everything had to be said 3 times, so the information was a but limited. It would have been better if the speaking was also done outside and went beyond basic facts about each place. I would have preferred a walking tour of the old city.
A good tour of Montevideo. Friendly staff with good local knowledge. Worth a visit to the safest destination in South America
It was a small group of about a half a dozen people. I appreciated the fact that since I was the only english speaker they didn't cancel my tour but did it bilingually to accommodate me.
The guide was people friendly did a great job of giving information about the city. Why is it that Viator you want someone to write a book on it.
Well organized and short, brief, effective and well worth the tour. Well organized and informative. Viewed the city scape and shoreline effectively. Well versed tour guide.
Somewhat informative of the area. Would recommend if you are just looking for a brief overview of the city and shore line. Was picked up at my hotel ON TIME as stated. Seems like a responsible tour center group. Answered queried emails,, promptly.
Best part was driving out along the beach boardwalk on east side of city - beautiful and would not have seen that much of the area without being on the tour (since it is quite aways from old section of montevideo.).
I had the opportunity to take this tour I wasn’t sure, but glad I did. I met Marcela out guide the trip was for almost 4 hours very clear in every point we went. The only thing wasn’t clear was we will stop in a market for shopping. Didn’t take much money or credit card for security reasons. Could not stay in downtown Montevideo. But all good and highly recommended. Marcela is an amazing host. Cheers !!
An excellent tour. The guide had a lot of knowledge and explained things clearly. We saw a lot of the city and had enough time at the various stops.
This was a great overview of Montevideo. Marcela was an excellent guide. She conducted the tour in English and Spanish, giving a wealth of information in each language. She allowed plenty of time at all stops and even gave additional information at the end of the tour to guide us for the rest of the day.
It was nice seeing landmarks that we wouldn’t otherwise see by walking, and our tour guide was very friendly. However, it wasn’t very informative. It mostly just drove by the landmark, told us what it was, gave us some time to walk around it, and then on to the next. I don’t actually know what I saw or the significance of it.
Our guide, Marcela, was really nice and I learned a lot of interesting things about Montevideo. The bus came on time, was comfortable. Very good tour for people, who came first time to Montevideo and wants to have a good overview.
Tour was booked for 8 am.Finally picked up after 9 and tour didn’t actually start until 9.30.We booked this tour with an English speaking guide. We could hardly understand a word of her English and other people on the tour said she was speaking too fast.We came away with hardly any understanding of the history of Montevideo which was very disappointing.
The tour was great & our guide was even better! We got to see all the landmarks in Montevideo and got recommendations of what to check out during the rest of our stay. This is the best way to see the historical points and still have time the rest of the afternoon to go elsewhere. Must do while in the city!
Our guide Marcelo was fantastic and we really felt like we got a good feel for Montevideo on our tour (and it's a good alternative to a lengthy walking tour).
Definitely do this on your first day in Montevideo if you can, you get a chance to see the most important sites and the guide also shows you where there are some other great places that you can visit on your own or add on to the tour later
This tour is an excellent way to see the highlights of the city and to whet your appetite for more. I enjoyed the mix of historical locations and the time provided for us to look around some of the locations at our own pace. The longer break at the city markets was nice, and gave us time to enjoy some shopping as well as to sample local coffee and food. Marcella was an excellent guide and I highly recommend this tour.
Our guide was excellent but it was difficult for him to speak over the Spanish narration that was on microphone so sometimes we could not hear everything.
Hans sure knows a lot of history and, he speaks 4 languages so he can help a diverse group of people. I learned a great deal about Montevideo.
Lost my money that I had prepaid. Our cruise ship had problems with docking and hence we could not get out in time to catch our tour. They waited 20 minutes for us and left.
Great all morning tour! Except for the return some logistical issues. Tour guide was excellent with the information and translation in 3 languages. Arturo from the pick up van was amazing!
The guide is a good person and talk a lot with us. Told a lot histories about Montevideo. I recommend this city tour. They are pontual, a lot. ❤️
This was a fantastic tour…the day after a huge storm and the weather was bad, but our tour guide was so good that it didn’t matter. We saw a huge number of sites and he helped orient us to both the history and geography of Montevideo. I was also amazed with how he gave the tour in English, Portuguese, and Spanish…really making a connection with everyone on the tour. I highly recommend taking this tour in the first day or two of arriving, so that you can get a sense of the city and all there is to do!
Foi um passeio bem tranquilo. O guia foi muito gentil e na volta até nos deixou em lugares mais próximos de onde estavamos, além de dicas do que estavamos procurando.
Which is really a serious company, I really thought again reliable.Guide prepared and punctuality '
The tour is 3 hours, gives us a panoramic view of the city, Carmem a very nice people and Marcelo the driver too.
Punctual, the guide very helpful and with a lot of knowledge. We contain a little history and have fun.
Excellent and comprehensive City tour. It gave you a great idea of Montevideo and its history. Experienced and attentive Guide
Very beautiful city, well-preserved old buildings, some with graffiti but very few. Simple but beautiful cathedral church. Very beautiful Solis Theater
Hostile city, with good restaurants options, easy access to the sights. Very clean and with excellent state of preservation.
